Pros: Owner is nice, service was fast, open late! Cons: Expensive for what you get. The flavor was just off for me on the beef and lamb gyro wrap, but I know others who like the taste. The meat is cut pretty thin, which is probably a disservice to the owners because it makes the wrap look smaller. Not really sure how this place stays in business to be honest. There's better tasting and cheaper Mediterranean restaurants, but sometimes it's late at night and you feel like giving the owner some business. read more

I was craving some gyros on a sunny afternoon in Berkeley and decided to drop by this mediterranean place in the famous Asian ghetto with a friend. I ordered the beef and lamb gyro wrap. I'm not gonna lie, at $6.75 it was a little pricey compared to other gyro places I've gone to in other cities, but whatcha gonna do? It's cheaper than the the two other Mediterranean places down the block. But oh my gosh, it was delicious. I didn't really dissect the wrap to see exactly what was in it (I was pretty hungry) but I tasted lettuce, tzatziki, tomatoes, and the glorious gyros. The gyros were fantastic, man. Fantastic. Oh and by the way, the gyro wrap is indeed wrapped with a bread that looks and tastes exactly like a tortilla if it isn't one. I found it really funny to watch people order a wrap thinking it was gyros on pita only to open up to foil to find what looked like a super burrito. It's called a wrap for a reason. But nevermind, I am digressing. So after I ate my awesome meal, I couldn't help but give in to the three-dollar baklava that was calling my name. Here, you get two 1.5"x1.5" pieces of baklava for that price. But the lady there is an angel (I forgot to ask for her name). She gave me an extra piece for my friend "on the house!" And my friend and I both agreed that the sweet Mediterranean dessert was to die for. Not gonna lie, it may not be THE best Mediterranean place in the world, but the food is good and fresh, the desserts are yummy and housemade, the service is great, the employees and owners are friendly, and, if you don't buy it EVERY day, it's pretty reasonably priced. Really like this restaurant! Come here all the time for lunch! The people are really nice and that does a lot for me. I don't like eating places where the owners are rude. That being said, the food is really good. I don't particularly like gyros so I usually just get the platters. I've tried the chicken gyro platter and the lamb platter, both of which are great. You can ask for more sauce and they usually just give you all of the sauce containers. They also sometimes throw in free food if they notice I'm sharing with people. Just really great people running this! It's a bit more expensive than the place next door or across the street, but it also tastes better. I highly recommend this restaurant! Also, they accept cards! I've been a regular customer here for about 2 years. I often eat here two times a week. The man and the woman that work here are very very nice. When I don't have money, they let me pay when I do. They've helped me a lot with school and issues with my friends. I always get the Falafel Wrap or Appetizer Combo Plate. I've tried 3 other meditteranean restaurants in Berkeley, and compared to those restaurants, this place has the most fresh and delicious food. I highly recommend the falafel because because it is satisfyingly crunchy, filling, and has a lot of flavor. I also recommend the Cacik (yogurt), because it is also always very fresh and delicious. This place is also kept very clean. I've tried a good amount of restaurants in the Bay Area in my 4 years as a Cal student, and this place is by far my favorite restaurant in the Bay Area. read more

Check your order before you take it away. I asked for NOT spicy (very clearly since I can't handle spicy food). Apparently she heard Spicy. Took my order away, walked across campus, took two bites, my mouth burned and I had to throw away the entire wrap. Worst gyro ever. I've been to many other Mediterranean places in Berkeley, and I must confess the gyro I had here was definitely the least authentic one. I think they serve wrap in tortillas, which is ridiculous. (Probably the only restaurant in the planet to wrap Turkish gyro on Mexican tortilla.) Although the taste is nowhere near the other Mediterranean places around, the prices are about the same. The guy working there is nice but he'll never get tired of offering more expensive orders from the menu. I was about to order something about $7 but I followed his suggestion and I ended up paying ~$13 and it was definitely overpriced. I ONLY go to this place only when it's very late, because there are no other restaurants open. read more

I love this place and eat here all of the time. Unlike similar restaurants in the area, the food here has a "home-cooked" feel and organic taste. I spoke to the owner and he prepares the meat himself. Other shawerma shops seem to be using a processed meat. read more

Wasn't really impressed by the chicken wrap. I think they actually used a burrito tortilla for it, and it was not like the traditional Mediterranean wraps I've had. I saw someone order the 5 star chicken platter which looked really good. If I ever end up back here I'll try that. Friendly staff over all and during my visit it was late at night so was nice and quiet inside. However only a handful of tables so I can see this place getting packed during lunch or dinner time due to the near campus location. read more

Not sure what all these negative reviews are all about? Sure, it's not the cheapest place in the world, but the food is great! Lamb plate-10 dollars, got it recently and was really disappointed. The meat she shaved off was very tough and should have been discarded. The person who got served after me got the really good juicy meat. I've seen other places toss the meat away when it is obviously old. There was a lot of rice and it was a bit hard and tasted dry. The cucumber tomato salad was actually the best thing and unfortunately the smallest portion. Like another person who reviewed the place, I also thought it looked like a lot of meat, but it's arranged so you only see the meat, then later you see it's a thin layer. I wish I could give this place more stars because the food turned out ok,except for the hummus, but my experience there was not pleasant. I went with my sister and there was already a girl there placing her order and she was white (this is important) and when it was my turn I smiled and greeted the woman who took my order and she didn't seem nice at all. After waiting for my order an older man comes out and says it's ready. I get up to the counter and he slams two sauces in front of me and says pick a sauce, with an attitude. Doesn't tell what they are or anything. So I pay for my meal and my sister and I begin to eat and the whole time he is just staring at us. So when the girl who was there before me order is ready he calls her young lady, smiles at her, puts her sauces on her food for her, and tells her thank you! The owner is a really nice guy but the gyro I had was not a "Greek' gyro No pita or tzatziki sauce, despite the pictures showing otherwise. The meat itself was greasy, greasy, greasy. I LOVE THIS PLACE. The food is great, totally authentic, and much "cleaner" than a lot of the stuff around berkeley campus. The owner (I don't know his name) is such a nice guy, always has conversations with his customers and seems very grateful! ayy so i drove over here around 1 am last night after going out cause i was hella hungry. I guess the Cal students were too, and some guy who obviously had a good time decided to buy me dinner and we had like a 5 minute talk about perspectivism. We decided to have the chicken and rice, it came out to $23 dollars about 11.50 per dish this is including tax. Free food tastes good, but it tastes even better when you meet some random, cool people. Anyway, the food was good probably a 8, but just because of my experience I decided it to give it a 10. I've seen some pretty bad reviews for this place, but I must say that I'm a fan. Almost every time I head to the Durant Food Court with friends I hit Cal Gyro. I always grab their chicken gyro, because it's consistently good. I haven't tried the lamb or beef wraps, so I can't comment on the meat quality there, but I've nothing but praise for the chicken. read more

Ehhh. Mediocre at best. The pita was oily and old tasting, and the hummus was absolutely gross. It had no flavor whatsoever, the container was only partially filled up, and there was this gross sea of "virgin olive oil", which tasted more like regular old canola oil, all over it. Ok i usually never write reviews but this was a must. I came here in the afternoon a couple days ago and I was amazed with what I got. I ordered a lamb and beef gyros sandwich. The meat was delicious and it was stuffed with fresh veggies. I payed around $8 for the sandwich and a drink, not bad at all for the size of the sandwich!
