I'd do zero if possible. I have had a leak in my hot tub since late October, and after rescheduling me twice finally came first week of November. Service man was there for 10 minutes, diagnosed problem, charged $155, said he needed to have another come with him and jack up the tub to fix the leak but it needed to be above freezing. They haven't been back since. Called twice and heard excuses and don't have me on any list when it there is a warmer day, which there have been several. They say they can't do anything until spring. Terrible customer service!!! I need to find someone else to fix the leak as I have to add water daily so it won't freeze! Wouldn't recommend at all!!! read more

I had a very bad experience with Cal spas and I would recommend looking elsewhere for your hot tub. They sold me two expensive upgrades to my hot tub and they both were dysfunctional. I ordered an expensive wifi connector so that I could adjust temperature remotely. It worked for a little while but when it stopped working they had no way of servicing it or no contact to share to help troubleshoot the problem. The second item was a lift assist device that broke shortly after they installed it. Instead of helping me fix either of the issues, they just added me to their no service list so I needed to find another complany to help me fix my spa. read more

Service department is just a feeder for new spa sales. Had their service department I had their service person out 3 times for a leak. Each time he PURPOSELY only fixed a little bit and recommended I trade in for a new one - a hard sell. I discovered it was just that the nut on outside of the main 6 jets gets loose over the years and needs tightening & resealing with silicone & then some spray-in insulation. I had my handyman retighten & silicone & spray-in new insulation for $750 (vs over $10,000 for a new one) - no more leaks. Follow-up post: Their service department was very proactive in reaching out to me and trying to make it right (including refunding the prior 2 service calls). Explained that it was a newer tech and that may be part of why I had the experience I did. read more

I can't say that I am happy with this experience. I ordered the tub back in July 2021. Was told it would come in September or October 2021. It didn't come until December 2021. Now, I understand about the logistics issues we're facing as a country so if that was the only problem, I could have forgiven it. When I got the tub, I recall thinking that maybe I had somehow goofed up and ordered the wrong color as the tub we received was gray. Our home is brown and warm colors, so I had ordered a color called "Smokey Mountain" which had brown in it to match our home. But I looked at the signed and dated sales agreement that both I and Cal Spas have, and in fact the color selected was Smokey Mountain which was the color I was wanting and expecting. So I got the wrong color. I don't know how something like that slipped by quality control checks. I've been calling for two days now during regular business hours, leaving a voice message, and have not received a call back to try to resolve this issue. And I am a new owner and have questions and cannot get ahold of someone to answer them for me. read more

I cannot say enough good things about the Plymouth Cal Spa store! We purchased a large hot tub in 2004 and because of selling our home, I needed a new cover for our tub and some maintenance. Long story short, Kevin was great in helping me get a new cover asap and as he was installing the cover, he was cycling through the panel on my hot tub and realized it was not working...John to the rescue the SAME DAY!! This hot tub is in good shape but is 10 years old! I was treated as though I had just purchased a new tub and John and Kevin could not have been more helpful or friendly! I highly recommend this Cal Spa for sales and definitely for maintenance! The guys were great and tried to save me money when they could in repairing the tub. Such a great experience! Before you buy here think again. First I have to say that I've owned my Cal Spa hot tub for some time and really enjoy it. Like most pools and spas they need parts and service and that's where things change. Unfortunately I've found this place to be the most expensive place to buy parts and accessories. Go online and compare for yourself the cost of their parts vs Cal Spa direct or any other parts distributor online for that matter. When I questioned why they charge $199 for the same part that Cal Spa Direct sells for $63 the guys turned into a jerk. I had to buy a heater and a pump from them a couple of winters ago. The heater was $197, the pump $599, and that was with a discount. I went online and found most places charge between $104-120 for the heater and $249-$325 for the same part number, same parts. Too many alternatives to this place. I'll shop elsewhere. read more

I can't disagree more with the one previous review. Our experience with CalSpa started in spring 2014, and there's been enough time that's passed now to be able to write a review on them. It's not often that I rate an experience so lowly, and wanted to be fair. We purchased our used hot tub from very good friends in spring 2014 - they say it never leaked for them. They bought the tub new from CalSpa and we had CalSpa do an inspection before we purchased it and they said there were no problems, including signs of leaks. CalSpa moved the tub from Minneapolis to Rosemount and when they took it off of the friends deck, they allowed it to drop on one edge from about 3' - it made a loud and distinctive THUD when it hit the ground. Once the tub was off the deck, I inspected the deck for signs of leaks - and there weren't any. Since day 1 in our yard, the tub has leaked - anywhere from 1/2' to 3" water drop A DAY - variable for no apparent reason and requiring regular/frequent water top-offs every few days. That's fine in the summer...but a pain in the butt in the winter...so this year we are winterizing it - which sort of defeats the purpose of having it in the first place. CalSpa did service the tub (free) several times last summer - each time finding a leak or two that they repaired. The first repair guy said he thought the leaks resulted from the drop and the move - and that's why they agreed to do the repair free the first four times. He went on vacation and the replacement repair guy said that the leak did NOT come from the drop or the move and CalSpa would no longer check for or repair leaks without their usual service charge. He was rude and in our face as he relayed this news. He also said the tub had a history of leaks previously - although as I said, that wasn't noted before the purchase, at the inspection, or until the new repair guy took over in fall 2014. Frankly, I think at that point they were "conning" us and as a result I won't call them for service much less consider them if we opt to buy a new tub. So for us, the experience has been dodgy and it's time to share that. There are MANY reputable hot tub dealers, and I'd encourage you to check them all out rather than take a chance with CalSpa. read more

I had a service appointment, they showed up 2.5 hours late and charged me a ridiculous amount of money to replace a heater on my spa. They have accused me of lying: telling them no one needed to be home and they could access the spa through a gate (no, the gate is NOT unlocked, someone DID need to be home to let you in) and that they called to give me an update on the time (they gave me a service window of 3-5pm and called at 5:30 to say they'd be late by which point I had already taken off work and was home waiting for them). After speaking with the manager today , I was pretty much told 'too bad'. I would never recommend a company or service provider that accuses me of lying, does not keep their promises and treats me the way I've been treated. Would NOT recommend them to anyone! read more

We bought a hot tub at the State Fair but could not have it installed until our addition was complete. Once complete, I called the sales rep we bought it from, he said he would call me back and set up an appointment to evaluate our addition. He never called me back and I received a call from a person who wanted to schedule a delivery. "Uh, no, we need someone to come out and measure to make sure the tub will get into our addition." That was done by the installers and it was determined that it would be impossible to get the tub in, so I chose another tub, but trying to get the sales guy (Dave) to get on this has been like pulling teeth. I visited the Woodbury store and talked to another rep (Bruce) who was more helpful; he said that a Scott would be calling me but that has not happened yet either. I have no idea what's happening at this point but the distributorship feels badly managed to me. I'm hoping that once I do get the tub, it works better than this distributorship. read more

I just wanted to share my story about Cal Spa. We purchased a spa back in Aug of 2004. I have had nothing but issues with leaking ever since I bought it. I have had Cal Spas techs out 3 times to fix issues at a pretty good expense. I myself have replaced 6 jets on my own because of leaks. Right now I am in the middle of replacing more jets because of leaks but am having a hard time finding them. I have talked to a couple of service providers and one of them told me that Cal Spa used a certain glue from 2004-2006 that has been known to cause leaks. They said that once you replace one jet another will start to leak. I have a feeling that I will be chasing these leaks for a while. Cal Spa has to know about this issue but will not do anything about it. I know this for a fact because one of the outside service providers used to be one of their service techs and he said that yr class is known for leaking. I will not buy another one of these units from Cal Spa ever again. When you spend $8000 and believe that they are the best spa out there I would assume that they would back their products up but I guess not. Beware I guess when you are searching for your next spa. read more
