From start to finish, Cal-State Glass was great. Johnny in the shop was able to help me understand the differences in window manufacturers and helped me to understand why Milgard was the best choice. I went with their Tuscany series and I'm very please with the outcome. More important than the window itself (okay, maybe equally important) was the fact that they were so easy to work with. The staff was friendly, kept me informed every step of the way and scheduled the install with me as soon as the windows arrived in their warehouse. Within a few days of the windows coming in they were on site with a full crew and got my whole house installed in just a day. That includes a slider too! Amazing. 10/10, would use again. Horrible, horrible service, installation and attitude. I just remodeled a bathroom and wanted old mirror cut down (my effort to be green- nothing to do with cost). I talked to owners and told them I wanted the mirror cut down, framed in chrome and remounted. If, this couldn't be done, I would like new mirror. Installers arrived and said they would cut mirror downstairs and install. I heard noise in our carpeted hallway -- they were cutting the mirror on the hallway adjacent to the elevator. I asked if there would be glass shards all over, their reply - no. Tell me, how do you cut and grind mirror without residue??!! No vacuum, no sweeping...lots of noise and shards. The mirror was installed with a half inch gap on the upper right side. When I pointed this out, the reply was " that little gap?" I asked if it could be covered. The installers said they could glue a faux metal strip over the gap - which they did. Not a great fix but better than a gap that was reflected in the mirror. When they left, the mirror was dirty, installer did a half-a-- job of cleaning, and there was silicone smeared on the mirror in two places. read more

I use this company to have a broken window in my home repaired/replaced. While it would've been nice to have same-day service, I understand they are a smaller company and have limited staff to service clients on any given day. In any event, I scheduled an appointment for the next day. They gave me a four hour window for their arrival. They arrived within that window as promised, and performed the work in just under an hour and cleaned up all residue afterwards. The home service was extra. They told me I could bring the glass frame to their shop and it would've cost about half the price but since I am no expert I decided to have them come do it on site and given the struggles he had getting the window out, I would say the added cost was worth the headaches & cursing that I was spared! Bottom line, they were on time and did the job as expected. I would recommend. read more

Cal-State Glass and Mirror is a very professional, customer friendly company. When I called in and explained what I needed done, the owner Dan sent 2 good workers out the next day. They took down and hauled away my broken mirrored closet doors. Dan called with a plan and a price and payment quote. No full payment until job completion. And an email with terms was sent to me. The secretary called me several times with updates so I could choose my installation day and time. On installation day the 2 guys seemed very experienced and conscientious. They got right to work and were quick and efficient and friendly. They had me check out their work before they left. Dan called a day or two later to see if I was happy with everything. He was able to provide & cut the piece that we wanted for a similar price as buying an uncut piece at HomeDepot.Im sure it doesn't always work out that way but it did for us this time. I have never posted on Yelp but this experience was so bad I felt the need to write a long winded, detailed review. We simply wanted a mirror for our bathroom. What I experienced was extremely poor customer service and shoddy work. Cal State Glass treated me as if I should be thankful they would sell me mirror. I ordered the mirror and was told it would take 3 days because the silicone that was meant to hold the J bar needed that much time to dry. The night before the mirror was supposed to be ready, a young male employee called asking directions about how it should be mounted.... meaning he hadn't applied the silicone yet. What about the 3 days? So on Friday, when they said my order would be ready, I went to pick it up and they had not applied the J bar frame. The woman Agnes unapologetically said to come back in the evening because her worker, which turns out to be her son, "forgot" to do that part. When I came back later in the day, the frame was cut but the worker mitered the corners too short leaving gaps at the edges. He said he ran out of material and told me I could "take it the way it was" or had to wait over the weekend for him to reorder frame material. I wasn't very happy about this and he was very rude about the situation, cursing and talking trash. I asked if he could have the mirror delivered for my inconveniences and he agreed to do so first thing Monday morning after "driving by CSULB and checking out the bitches." When we discussed installation, he said he doesn't worry about finding the studs in walls when hanging mirrors. He's more interested in getting it done quickly and uses drywall anchors. I decided I would install the mirror myself. When Monday came I waited until about 10 AM and nobody showed. So I called Cal State Glass asking for an ETA on my delivery and was told 30 minutes. I started working on something and realized that an hour had passed. I checked my phone and had a missed call and voicemail 5 minutes prior. It was Agnes asking for my address. I called back and she told me they skipped my delivery because I didn't call her back. Literally 5 minutes had passed since she called... After all this ridiculousness, I decided I would prefer to go elsewhere for a mirror and asked for a refund. Agnes became angry and after raising her voice, told me she would refund the money but to never come back in the store again. She also said "they don't worry about business of small people like me because they have been in business for 60 years." 1 week later I had not received a refund so I called and again asked for my refund. She said the reason she hadn't given a refund was she didn't have my card number and was expecting me to come in to the store... after she forbade me to enter her business. 10 days later, I finally did get a refund and went to a different glass shop, Gardena Glass, where I had a good experience and got a high quality product in a timely manner for a reasonable price. Needless to say, I would not recommend this company to a friend. read more

I had a minor (to me) patio door repair, a new threshold plate and re install a new/old dog door. I supplied the doggy door. $700 and 3 wait all day "appointments" later the door has a new shape so the lock must be slammed shut and they didn't even clean the frame. The day after they left a piece fell off the door. Once they finally came, I couldn't get them out of the house fast enough. read more

He said "I'll be right with you" and proceeded to continue his conversation for several minutes. I finally walked out of the store. First experience we purchased rimless shower doors and when my wife open the door it hit the rubber bumper and both glasses shattered causing glass to land all over her and had surgery on her foot. This last time the service was so poor it is unbelievable even to me. The owner seems like be a nice older man however his staff starting with his receptionist and workers are the stem of the business's down fall. I ordered a vanity mirror $460 plus dollars, Takes 4 weeks to get the glass. When they bring it out has a defect has to go back. Next glass they brought out the drilled improperly so the whole for the light did not match. As they left the broke a huge sheet of glass in the street they semi picked up. Next glass we waited for weeks. Came in and they drilled the holes and hung my vanity light to where the glass cracked. They refused to give me my money back and had to wait for the final piece of glass. Again holes were drilled wrong and hired another glass company to correct the nightmare. I recommend Orange County Glass or Western. The receptionist (also listed as owner) was a big part of the problem. Oh by the way when they had to bring back a piece of glass they missed the appointments half the time. The receptionist would hang up on us when we complained. Its hard to write up a business like this especially local but it is warranted and customer should not have to wait months of aggravation to get a simple installation completed. read more

I was extremely impressed with the Cal state glass team. I had 2 broken windows. They came out right away, took measurements (which took about 15 min), and gave me a fair estimate. Then they came out a week later and installed the new windows. It took them like an hour to install both windows they even helped me put back the furniture. I will definitely use them again! the man (probably the owner) asked if he could help me. I told him I needed a piece of glass and gave the measurements. he gave me the price for the piece and complained how he hadn't cut any glass all day due to paper work. he went to cut the glass and I was distracted by a call on my cell. after I finished my call he was printing out the receipt and then he handed it to me. I asked where's the glass and he pointed down to a few sheets of glass leaning at the base of his counter below the register. I could hardly see it, after all, it's glass and see through. I asked for some cardboard or some kind of protection. he told me he had none. I had a bad feeling. I made it home but when I went to install the glass in the vacant window I noticed it wasn't cut straight and wouldn't fit. I had to chisel and sand the window. when I got the glass in it cracked and continues to crack today. when I called to ask for a replacement he said "it left here in fine condition". and he wouldn't replace the glass. I said I wouldn't do business with him again and that he should have wrapped the glass and cut it right. he said I had never bought glass before. I said, "I've bought lots of glass" and I have! I'll just have to drive a little farther now to Acme Glass or Broadway Glass where they wrap the glass to protect it and they cut straight lines. Broadway Glass once even gave me a free lesson in using a glass cutter. read more

Had these guys cut a round mirror to fit inside a wrought iron wall hanging that we wanted to dress up. I left the wall hanging with them and and asked if they could install the mirror once they cut it out. Called back a couple of days later and they said that they were working on a second cut because they cut the first one perfectly round and my hanging was out of round so they were going to make a template to match the opening. These guys went out of their way to make my mirror fit perfectly and didn't charge me any more for all of the extra effort. I would definitely use them again. read more

I brought a cardboard template to have a piece of glass cut to cover a desk. I was told to call back the next day to see if was ready. Not ready, call again tomorrow. Not ready again. Went back 4 days later and asked for the glass. The young man said it wasn't there and wouldn't be ready for another few days. I then told him that I needed it and to cancel my order. When I asked for my template back, he jumped at me, veins popping out of his neck and shouted at me to f*ck off! read more

I had 2 beautiful mirrored medicine cabinets that I wanted installed in my remodeled bathroom. A corner on one cabinet had gotten chipped and I asked Johnny at Cal State Glass and Mirror if he could put a metal decorative corner piece to hide it. He thought for a minute, and then came up with a great idea. He put a tall 90 degree Mirror decoration in each corner and gave the cabinet a classy artistic design. I was very happy with how it turned out and he was reasonably priced. Later I stopped in and asked his advise on mounting the cabinets. Again, in a thoughtful manner, he shared his expertise and gave me some helpful pointers that made the job easier. Johnny is very personable, talented and really knows his business. After the recent experience we would not recommend Cal State Glass to anyone. We initially had a good start. Derek came out to assess possible repairs to an old shower door, which was not repairable. We decided on a new shower enclosure and he measured for one. He was aware we were fixing a house to sell and not always in town, but said he would keep the work order. We called before we were to arrive in town the next time, to order the shower enclosure and found out that the work order had been lost. We had to reschedule a measuring appointment. After this appointment and the estimate, we placed an order and paid about half down. They indicated it would take up to a week to receive the materials and a few days notice to schedule the appointment. We called two weeks ahead to advise of our arrival and the need for installation to occur within a four day window of time. There was no further contact. We went to the office the day we arrived in town to ask about installation and Agnes said the materials were not there and she had not followed up on the order. It turned out the material order was not filled the week we were there and therefore installation was not possible. Four weeks later we called ahead and set up an installation appointment. We arrived and unfortunately Derek was in the hospital. They had to reschedule, which they did, for late the next day. Everything seemed fine during installation. We were not made aware of any problems and from the outside, the fixed panel and door looked good. We expected a professional job and did not check the workmanship the way we should have. Three days later, we went into the shower stall to clean and found open holes in the threshold tiles and on one side and caulked holes on the other side (all from the original door installation). The fixed panel was too large which forced the door panel beyond the old door placement. There was never any mention of this during the installation. We went to the office immediately (830 am) upset about the installation. Agnes said she knew nothing about it and would have to send Derek out to see the problem. He came out that afternoon with a drill and caulk in hand. We told him the job was unacceptable, even though we realized it could not be fixed at this point. There would always be visible extra holes. But there was still and unfinished job and leakage potential. IT LOOKED TERRIBLE AND VERY UNPROFESSIONAL. His response was defensive and profane. It was difficult to calm him down for a possible solution. We recommended a trim strip to seal and cover the holes so that the new installation would not have to be torn out. Re-installation of the door would still result in exposed holes. He completed the repair work the next day after we had to depart. The most disappointing aspect of this experience was the poor attitude and lack of character. There was no acceptance of accountability and up to now no apology. read more

July 29th I deliver a mirror to have 3" trimmed off for $20. She breaks it and says "Well, we don't guarantee it won't break!" She puts the pieces back together like a puzzle, measures where the electrical outlets holes are and orders a new mirror. Aug 4th my wife pays for ($241.89) and picks up the new mirror. Get it home and the electrical holes are off. I send her pictures to show her they don't line up and she orders another mirror. Aug 22nd I go to the store to find out about my mirror and she says "I'm so sorry, I guarantee it'll be ready Friday." Friday Aug 26th, 29 days after this started I have only a refund of the $ I paid to replace the mirror they broke. read more

Last year I brought a sliding screen door into Cal-State Glass to have the screen replaced. It was done very well, in a timely manner and was reasonably priced. Having had that positive experience here, I brought in an unusual and difficult problem that I needed solved. The screens on two windows in my camping van had come out several times over the years and they no longer could be pushed back into place. The old screens had a piece of leather with a zipper attached to them to allow access to the handle for the window. I had been to several upholstery places to see if they could sew the leather pieces onto new screening. The answer was no from several but found one that could but he would not provide the screen. So I went to Cal-State Glass and talked to Johnny about the screen. He took quite a bit of time to select the best type of screen for this project and cut it it carefully to fit the frames. He had to measure the open frame section for the leather insert very carefully to be sure it would fit back into the window opening. All this took careful planning and calculating and time. Once the screen was cut, I took it along with the frames and old screen to the upholstery shop and had the leather moved from the old to the new and sewn in place. Once that was finished, I took it back to Johnny to set the new screen into the frames and replace them back into the van. To further complicate things, the leather had not been sewn into the precise place needed. Johnny was willing to continue conquering this project through to completion. He made necessary adjustments, set the screen into the frames, and placed them back into the van. This review is long and I apologize for that but I wanted to emphasize how complicated this project was and how Johnny did not give up but continued to really think of how it could all be done and he did an excellent job. Thank you Johnny and I appreciate you attention to detail and would recommend this place for any screen or glass work to everyone. read more

I have used Cal State Glass & Mirror for custom glass for front door, side door, and multiple furniture pieces in the past and have had a great experience. This past order was significantly BELOW EXPECTATIONS. Agnes was the MOST unprofessional person I have ever dealt with, she truly made me feel that is was my fault that I did not pick up the order. I never received a voice mail or anything in the mail (low tech) after the order was received at the store. She could not provide any solution but wanted to let me know that she had been doing this for 30 years, she repeated this 3 times through the course of our phone conversation. Anything I mentioned, she started to argue with me, she spoke 90% with a negative tone, I had too stop her twice and remind her I was the customer. I would not even consider using this place again based upon Agnes alone. I have never posted on YELP before, nor had an account, but I would hate for anyone to have to go through what I just experienced. read more
