The insurance company sent a letter informing me that my policy was subject to cancellation if the moss on part of my roof was not removed. I did my due diligence and after 3 estimates I chose Cal Vintage roofing to clean my roof and make any needed repairs. Marcus explained the needed cleaning and the methods to be used. Marcus showed me the photos of the roof so that I could see for myself how the work would to be done. The cost was in the range with the other 2 estimates, but the difference was Marcus explaining what was necessary and what was not necessary. I had only contacted Cal Vintage because the previous owner had the roofing installed through them. Had a technician come out end of October. Told him the inspection report noted missing or poorly installed flashing. He told me it there are flashings and it was fine. I'm not the expert so okay. I continued to have them sent over a quote for maintenance repairs and signed it. Almost 2 weeks goes by and I don't hear from them. Called them and found out, the main office received my order but the other department didn't... according to them. They couldn't be out for another two weeks. This past storm literally flooded my kitchen and back door entry way. Had a contractor pull out the fascia board (which was rotted by the way and overlooked) and shocking, flashings were not installed correctly. I called the front office, told them I need emergency repair that it caused water damage in my house and all they said was "Sorry we have other appointments. I had two friends that had great things to say about their re-roof project by Cal-Vintage and when it was time for my roof to be replaced I made sure to get a quote from them. When I saw their really nice showroom with all sorts of roof samples I thought for sure they would be expensive, but amazingly their quote was less than another company with no showroom at all. I knew right away I should go with them, and at the end of the project I'm super happy I did. Eric, the sales consultant was really great to deal with, and explained things well and was super chill and no pressure about which type of roof I should choose. He never tried to upsell and allowed me to decide what I wanted. Once it was time to choose the tile color he brought samples out to the house to help us match the roof color of the other side of the halfplex. When it was time to start the project they emailed and called to let me know well ahead of the date and when they started it went by really fast, only 4 days start to finish for a smallish halfplex. Carlos was our Superintendant and he did a great job managing the project and keeping me apprised of the status. He was also easy to talk to and work with and he answered all my questions and addressed every concern quickly. The roofers Guillermo and Octavio were really awesome and did an incredible job. The roof looks absolutely perfect and I was extremely pleased with the work they did. They were also super friendly and nice and easy to talk to. We had a few minor tweaks needed for the gutters and Carlos got on the fix right away I could tell Cal-Vintage does everything possible to listen to customers and address every concern. As a home buyer, I quickly discovered there are metal and cement roofs on the majority of older homes. Both require regular and careful maintenance, which most home owners seem to have forgotten. I had Cal Vintage come out on two different homes I was in escrow on, during my inspection period. Joel estimated both roofs down to within a year of the actual age and provided a detailed report and estimate so I could make a qualified decision. Before you decide to buy a home with a metal or cement tile roof, have them come out for $275 to inspect it. A home is a huge investment and having a sound roof is critical to protecting this asset. We had Joel C. out to assess our roof, which was last re-done 27 years ago. We had no idea if it was getting time to re-roof - but of course, were hoping it wasn't. He looked it over, discussed our concerns, and he pointed out several details that needed attention that had completely escaped our maintenance watch. OMG!!!...WHEN DID "NORDSTROM" GET INTO THE ROOFING BUSINESS?!? Oh, well from what I can tell, they haven't yet, but you would never know it judging from how "Cal-Vintage" mimics "Nordstrom's" attention to detail and customer service! First off, having owned our "Land Park" house for going on 43 years, I am a little O.C.D. (OK Brent, maybe a bit more than a "little" OCD!) and extremely choosey on who I contract with to work on this house (and though hardly a professional, I do most of the fixes/construction myself that doesn't require highly technical skills/experience ie HVAC/roofing/foundation), but I do research what questions that need to be asked and recognize sound solutions when presented; and that's where Cal-Vintage shines, as their creed is basically, "We provide the information: You decide". What I decided on was: "CertainTeed Landmark Pro Solaris Moire Black". I would have sprung for the TL (triple-layer) but the Pro has the Max-Definition shading I like, while the TL is more monochromatic (specific to the Moire Black). But what I can say, in the sun, the Moire Black looks a couple shades lighter than in brochures, so if you really want a "black" black roof, the Solaris TL will no doubt suit you better. The "Low-E Thermasheet" underlayment is a no-brainer for Sacto's hot summers, so I recommend springing the extra bucks for it, after-all, labor accounts for probably around 60% or so of the roofing job, so you mighta as well get the roof you want to look at and live under for the rest of your time in your house. One thing you NEVER have to worry about with Cal-Vintage, is that when they say they will show-up on time, they do! Have a question? They will promptly get the answer for you, and you're not left wondering when they will ever show-up again after job completion for those one or two inevitable minor fixes that seems to arise whomever the contractor or type of job they're doing! An outstanding feature of Cal-Vintage, is that they have "dedicated" team members specific to every aspect of the roofing project from beginning to end, (Our job started 3/26/25 and substantially completed in four days) starting with Project Coordinator Vanessa, who attends to scheduling and making sure you get timely email receipt of all the paperwork re: contract/permits etc. Next-up, Nick the Estimator who takes the measurements and flies the photo-drone over the roof-top, which provides a visual that I found an invaluable aid to the site measurements, from which, next-up, Sales Pro Eric works-up a project plan/cost based on your budget and requirements. Eric has been in the trade (well, not forever!) and knows his stuff as opposed to trying to upsell you. Martin was our On-Site Manager, or what I would call the "Enforcer', overseeing the working-crew for quality-control and making sure everything follows the written project details and everything being up to current code. (Martin is also, what I would refer to as the "Bag-Man", who you hand your #2 payment to upon Materials roof-top delivery) . Javier and his apprentice "side-kick" get down to business after the "tear-off" guys are thru in a coupla hours and makes sure things are water-tight after the first day (Oh and thank-you very much, I don't think, N.W.S. for the unforecast rain showers on day two and four into our roofing job!). Meanwhile Errol (who I would call, "The TinMan") is working on the new gutters and came up with great workmanship to route one downspout that ran under our back-deck. On day three, Javier and the guys were taking a short-break out front and I came out to shoot the breeze with them, (wondering why they stopped work, cause they are non-stop work-a-holics), and there was a different crew up on the roof, and Javier explained, "Oh, those guys are the metal-valley/waterproofing underlayment experts, that's all they do!" Which goes back to what I originally said, each and every team member has a specific expertise! And finally, I save for the last, mega kudos to Project Manager Brent, (aka "The "CPU") who is the most prompt, accessible, courteous, professional, knowledgeable person that you could hope to ask for to oversee your re-roof from start to finish! OK that's it! You might think, "hey this reviewer is just a "shill" or married into the Cal-Vintage family", but you would be wrong. Yep, you might find a cheaper roofer, or even get lucky and get a good roofer other than Cal-Vintage, but I can tell you, even if you don't give a "hoot" or want to be bothered about the details of your new roof, other than the color, Cal-Vintage WILL make sure it's done right! read more

Cal-Vintage was one of the small # of roofing companies that were willing to work on our Spanish barrel tile roof. We asked them to come out last winter after we had water coming through the top of our front porch during a particularly heavy storm. They were responsive and were able to send out an estimator quickly to survey the roof. I was really impressed with how well they showed me and communicated about the various issues and talked through which items to consider addressing at the time vs later. Ultimately I had them re-flash and seal part of the roof, fix some broken or missing tiles, and clear out the roof valleys, which they were able to do all in one day. After I wait 2 weeks for a scheduling call, who knows how far out into the future it will be before they can schedule a time to visit. Matt Giannini worked with us to select the best option for our 100 year old home. He brought samples to the house and gave us the addresses of their other work so that we could compare different styles of roofs. The construction manager visited with us often to inform us as each process was completed and what we could expect next. We had a pretty significant remodeling project done that involved taking a chimney out. Our contractor hired Cal Vintage Roofing to handle it, and Joel and his people did great work. They took care of patching the area where the chimney was, and they went over the whole roof. They made a few repairs, made sure the flat roof section was sound, and helped with a decorative top to a small entry way over the front door. Then we suddenly got the news from our homeowners insurance company that they were dropping us. Apparently they flew a drone over the house while the roofing work was going on. If we wanted to renew our insurance, we would need proof that the roof was sound. This was a big problem because there are very few companies left writing new insurance policies in California. We called Joel and he came out and did a full inspection of the roof and produced a report with tons of photos documenting the good condition of the roof. The insurance company then told us that this was not sufficient due to a few of the photos being "blurry", and we'd need another set of photos of the roof at every angle. I called Joel and asked if he could help. He was out the next day, taking a large number of photos and then sending them over to me at no extra charge. These were so good that the insurance company couldn't argue with them and we received notice that our policy would be renewed. We couldn't have asked for better service from Joel and from Cal Vintage Roofing. read more

Although very pleasant, not a company I would recommend. I was referred to Cal Vintage by a roof cleaning company who noticed a portion of my shake roof was in need of repair/replacement. Had Wade come out and take a look and he was very nice and used a drone to take pictures. From then on, nothing but delay, delay and delay followed by a very incomplete and over priced bid. Followed by no response to additional questions before I finally just gave up with them. From initial meeting to estimate was over a month and the cost was almost twice the cost of the other roofing companies that took a look. I also asked for the cost to re-roof that section, rather than repair, and he never did reply or provide a price to me. Ultimately, the $37,000 cost he estimated for repair was much more than the cost to fully re-roof. It's okay if they didn't want to do the work, but the delay and high bid cost me precious time and just wish I had never called them out to begin with. I ended up getting a great re-roof from Tim Jones Roofing, very professional, a much better price and just a much better experience. I have nothing against Cal Vintage, but based on my experience I just wouldn't recommend them. read more

12 years ago, we had Cal-Vintage Roofing replace the old shake roof that was on the house, when we purchased the home. The quality of the composite roof we selected came with a 15 year warranty. With the recent storms we had our 1st leak in 12 years. A few days later, when it wasn't raining, Carlos H., and James retuned to remove the temporary plastic sheeting, and completed the permanent necessary repairs.
