My three year old kid touched the pinwheel at their door, just slightly playing no damage at all, she yelled at my kid "Don't touch it!" twice. My 12-year-old son came into this bike shop as a potential customer. He wanted to ask about the price of repairing Shimano hydraulic brakes and whether they sell the oil so he could try to fix the brakes himself. The woman who introduced herself as the owner of the shop didn't even check anything and simply told him to leave. There was no explanation, no help, and not even a suggestion to come back with a parent. My child came in politely to ask about a repair and buying a part -- and instead received rude treatment. For a bike shop where kids and teenagers often come, this seems very strange and unprofessional. We will definitely be looking for another bike shop in this area. read more

Guy at Calabazas Cyclery said he knows what the issue is, but won't tell me because I might just go off and fix it myself. And wants $175 for overhaul service. I went to another bike shop. Paid $25 labor and $20 parts to have the shift cable and housing replaced. Issue solved. read more

So my kids decided to ride their bikes in a back trail off road. Seconds later, 4 tire punctures from rolling through puncture weed / goat heads had me looking for solutions. I called Rob and he told he could fix the bikes with new inner tubes, remove all thorns for $140. But I wanted to learn to do this myself and teach my kids a lesson also. Instead, with Rob's warm open advice, I walked out spending half that with the parts needed and an upgrade! Ended up getting the right inner tubes, and a puncture guard strip which I installed that afternoon. Reasonable prices and helpful expertise make this shop a great local option. Went to the store to get my two daughter's tire tube replaced. The kid working at the front told me that they replace all tires and asked me to talk to Rob. I roll in my daughter's two bikes and Rob tells me that they don't do replacements for department bought bikes. His rational was that they are too complicated and he can't take the liability. He was OK for me to take off the tire and bring it or just sell me the tube. He was being difficult and basically gives me a hard time buying a bike from a department store. Seconds later, I called The Off ramp in Santa Clara and confirmed they change tubes for department bough bikes. In 15 minutes and at a reasonable price both the bikes are good to go. Avoid going here for servicing bikes that have not been bought at this store. read more

Went there to get a spoke replaced on my Mountain bike. When I called, they said no promises of same-day service... come on over... it depends on the foot-traffic/walk-in. I took a chance... when I went there, they took care of my wheel immediately... out within 25mins... Very friendly staff. The service person also gave cleaned the disc brake pads. They were also the cheapest of all the stores that I got a quick quote over the phone. Sales personnel who were around while we checked out the accessories and bikes were friendly as well. And when asked if it is a new nut they said yes Refer to the pictures for the reference nut and the actual. I've visited Calabazas 3x and had only positive experiences with the staff and owner. I bought a BMX bike for my son and proper assembly and adjustments were made to the brakes, handle bars, top bar fit, and seat height. The Owner was very kind & hospitable to me and my son. I did have to the return to the store a week later to check on the brakes slipping and the owner showed me how to properly adjust and fine tune the brakes and installed better quality brake pads on the bike, free of charge. He felt the stock brake pads slip a little more for beginner riders. The Staff practices Covid safety and wears masks at all times. Less positive feedback could be from the bike repair services being delayed at times, but probably because there's a lot of bikes to fix with less staff to keep up with the repairs. Come visit the store with some patience and great service will be delivered. read more

I bought two choice MTB tires, 26x1.95. The first guy to help me brought out two tires, one with white walls the other black wall; $24 each. Each tire was the exact same tire except tire wall color. In my opinion, these tires looked weak. I told him, I will mostly ride on the street and occasionally go off road. I asked him if these tires would work good; he remarked 'uH, I guess so' I came to Calabazas Cyclery for quality service and this guy was either new or didn't care. A few minutes later a fellow came out with some other tires and introduced himself as the guy I talked with; he said you want these tires and told me a quick story of how long lasting they are and road worthy. $39 each tire. About 2 months ago, during my ride, while taking a break, I accidentally found the shift cable end cap of the rear derailleur was gone. To prevent from cable strings getting loose, it's the best to put the cap on ASAP. As I have 2 caps in my bike tool bag, all I needed is pliers to put the cap on. It's probably the simplest thing about bike fixing which takes like 5 seconds to get it done without knowledge or skills involved. On my way home, I paid a visit to Calabazas Cyclery hoping to get the cap on ASAP. And I could also look around to see if there's any accessories I can purchase from at the same time. As I visited the bike shop couple times before, I walked my bike to the repair area directly, explained the situation to its mechanic, and said "Can you help me to put the cap on?" He said "No". I said "It's like a 5-second thing." He said "No. And you can't be in here." I believe he meant the repair area which is like 1 feet away from the product area. I walked to the repair area directly because I was told to from last visit for a repair. I also needed to show him the cable cap was gone and I got a new cap on hand. And there's no one in the product area by then. I had no idea why this simple request got rejected. I then asked "Can I at least borrow your pliers and let me put on the cap myself?" He said "No." I said "Come on, man, We both know how easy it is. If you are busy or you don't want to do it, can't you even let me do it myself?" He hesitated for few seconds, said "You need to go outside", then grabbed the pliers, walked me out and let me do it myself. He also said "I'll let you do it this time, and don't tell me it's a 5-second work." I don't know what would you think if you were me at a situation like that. I would say 1. As a local bike shop providing repair services, when customers walk in requesting a service, you don't tell customers a NO, unless the service level is too high that you can't perform, or some required parts that you don't carry. 2. If any repair services require an appointment, even if it's a 5-second work, it could be nicely told. If any repair services require a fee, even if it's a 5-second, super low level work by grabbing pliers and press it 2 times on a cable cap, it could be nicely told. Customers can decide to make an appointment, pay a fee or not. 3. For whatever stress the mechanic was suffering, if any, none of them were given from me. Talking to customers like they owe you something is not the way you do business. Personally, I've been living in the same area for over 2 decades. Family has total 5 bikes in garage. And I will never ever walk in Calabazas Cyclery again for bikes, parts, accessories and services, simple because a friendly local business is not what Calabazas Cyclery is. read more

My first impression was quite negative. My tire was flat, so at home I replaced the innertube and pumped it up with a compressor intended for a car tire. The tube popped, probably the air pressure meter on that compressor is inaccurate so I should get an inline meter or one of those comparessors that will stop where you set it. So I went to Calabazas intending to get their advice. They didn't do what I wanted! Instead, they showed me where I had not set the "bead" of the tire properly. I'm not a bicycle nerd so that didn't make sense. But last night I followed their instructions, and ... long story short .. I don't need a new pump or meter. They were right. This is the 2nd time I've had a similar experience. About a year ago I asked them to fix my bike. They said they're very backlogged, couldn't look at it for weeks. But the cashier overheard, took a look, gave me a very small part (from the floor, I think) and said "try this out." I did. It worked! read more

I feel that I have to write this review from my experience -- I did have very positive experience with the old technician who took off the stuck paddles foe me last time......but unfortunately I ran into Rob, the owner this time. He not only over-charged me for truing the wheel (I searched online and got a quote from REI, REI's price is 50% of his, in line with online suggestions), but did not fix the issue! When I called him telling him how he should answer my question in the first place that the wheel does not need to be trued, he talked to me in such condescending and rude way that you feel so pathetic that in your neighborhood you have to deal with an unethical jerk like this! The owner only cares about making as much money from you and he is very rude and dishonest -- go to REI or trailhead on Stevens Creek, they are so much better. Such business should not have footprint in our nice neighborhood. read more

Exceptionally poor customer service. Called ahead to ask about getting a basic tune-up and replacement components, and was advised to bring my bike by the shop to check it out. When I showed up, the owner told me she didn't have time to look at the bike and to come back in several weeks, despite the tech at the counter wanting to inspect it. She then berated the employee in front of me, and gestured towards several bikes on the floor complaining about how short staffed and full-up they were to me. I was super cordial, polite, but the owner got all huffy seemingly out of no where. The subtext and experience was really awkward and strange. First time setting foot in this shop and it will be the last. Walked out feeling treated like less than a human being. I would drive 100 miles out of my way if I needed to to find another shop, but thankfully I found another bike shop the same day with no issues. read more

Never had a bad experience with this shop until my visit today (first encounter with an older lady that worked there. Did not get her name) which is unfortunate since I live down the street and will not be coming back, nor will I be recommending this shop to anyone else. I came in needing to get a flat tire fixed. They quoted me $20 for the reason being "this is the price because it is an inconvenience to other projects my workers are working on". First of all, sorry to "inconvenience you", second, changing a tire takes 2 minutes if your people know what they are doing, plus you had people standing around in the back. I would have been happy to pay the $20 if I was talked to the way I was. I believe it was the manager or shop owner that I spoke with, but it was horrible customer service to be spoken to the way I was spoken to. I was also told that if I took my tire somewhere else to get fixed that I'd be wasting gas driving elsewhere, in which I responded that I do not drive a vehicle that takes gas. I gladly took my flat tire to a different shop who was more than happy to help me out AND cheaper. (She told me that I would not find a cheaper place, which I did). read more

I was recommended to visit this shop by Cognition Cyclery after they were not able to help me sort out a chain issue for my track bike. Soon as I walked in, I was hit with a wave of nostalgia! I haven't been inside a BMX shop in ages! Love the vibe in this shop! They greeted me immediately and was able to look at my chain issue quickly. They determined that I needed to get a new chain since my chain was in too many pieces. I got a great replacement chain that matches my oil slick/titanium chainring and had a great conversation with the shop head about bikes and a local racing legend that rides BMX and Track comps. Was a little hesitant to go here because some of the negative reviews, but gave it a shot anyway. Everything was great. The workers greeted us as soon as we walked in. We were helped right away. Even as we were being helped the employee said to the other customers that he would be right with them. Everything was explained about our purchase. My son got the bike he wanted and at a reasonable price. A couple other places we went to were 200+ more than what we spent here. Overall great experience as a first time bike buyer. Do NOT support this shop! Absolutely horrible service (or lack of). My husband stopped by today to ask if they could fix a tire. Before he could finish his sentence, he was told by this guy in 50s "I'm not interested in your business. Go to another store." My husband has not once in life been treated this terrible. He did what a decent man would do, leave and never bring any business back. We just moved to this neighborhood and we love to support local businesses, but not this one. Very disrespectful. Here's my story, I took my bike and asked them to adjust the brakes and service it. First they said I need to leave the bike and come back 4 days later to pick it up,and I agreed. Then one of the employees told me that they couldn't do that because they didn't have room, so they asked me to come back a few days later. Well as they asked I took my bike back a few days later, I went to the back of the store and asked for help and explained why I was there. One of the employees looked at me while working with another customer and said, "sir, I'm sorry. I need to pass on your bike." I thought he is talking to someone else until he repeated that he wouldn't work on my bike. "Huh? Are you talking to me?" I replied. He came closer and said "yeah, we won't accept your bike." I asked why. I mean it's just a simple break adjustment! With a smirk he replied, "sir, this bike is probably from 1993, we are in 2007! C'mon, it's too old! I don't wanna touch it. I'm the one who'll be working on it if I accept it, but I'm sorry, we won't do it. It's just too old!" When I saw that kind of attitude, I immediately told myself that this was not the place for a good service. Anyhow I took my bike to another store (Evolution Bike Shop on Stevens Creek), they looked at it and told me it was no problem, they'd take care of it.
