5 star experience. The location, ambiance, and service were incredible and exceeded expectations. For parties, photo shoots, and weekend adventures I highly recommend Calamigos. Valet is worth it if you're coming in for an event. Breathtaking views and scenery to host special events like weddings and anniversaries. The accommodations were outstanding as well. I will continue to recommend this venue to friends, family, and clients.

Gentry Market offered an amazing Breakfast burrito, great drip coffee and delicate pastries. The setting and ducks added to cute ambiance. Highly recommend. We just dropped by randomly and were pleasantly surprised by the great service and happy attitude.

Calamigos Guest Ranch will far succeed your every expectation and transport you to an absolute dream world. Right off the bat, I would like to start this review by sincerely thanking every team and staff member at Calamigos Guest Ranch and Beach Club for a truly beautiful and unforgettable experience--you made our Christmas holiday so very special and my husband and I are beyond grateful your hospitality. My husband and I have stayed at Calamigos before in a premium private cottage; it was extremely comfortable for two people; we especially loved the outdoor shower and the fact that the cottage was surrounded and shadowed by giant, beautiful trees. This time, we were fortunate enough to have the opportunity to stay in a newly renovated single bungalow...and WOW! I cannot express to you just how AMAZING the bungalows are! Our bungalow had an incredible (private) front porch with couches and a fire pit, which is where we spent most of our evening under the stars with a delicious bottle of Calamigos Cabernet Sauvignon. The king size bed was the most comfortable bed I have ever slept in. It was almost hard to depart from when waking up in the morning, but the resort has so much to offer on the property grounds (restaurants, hikes, spas, gym, several pools, hot tubs, etc.) that you don't want to waste a minute of your day sleeping it away. The best part of the private bungalow (aside from the enormous sized bathroom with a shower that is comparable to the size of normal bedroom and gorgeous built in skylight) is the outdoor bathtub. Again, you are surrounded by the beauty of nature and gorgeous, tall trees that provide for shade and privacy and it is soooo relaxing that I almost became a prune because I spent hours in this hot bath. Although the price for a single bungalow may seem costly, I can promise you it will be worth every penny so don't hesitate to book it, if it's available (these are very popular, rightfully so--and the book fast so don't miss the opportunity to stay in a bungalow if you can)! There are so many special features about this bungalow that make you feel like absolute royalty and you won't regret it. I don't want to fail to mention that Sundays are the best at Calamigos; when my husband and I arrived, we headed straight to the Ranch Club restaurant and bar with our dog (yes, it is a dog friendly resort--the most dog friendly resort you'll ever stay at!). On Sundays, they not only have TV's so you can watch football (a big part of our Sunday routine), but also endless mimosas and bloody Marys! But these are not just any mimosas and bloody Marys...they come with an assortment of charcuterie, fruits and desserts (see the pictures I've included for reference). Also, you HAVE to order the BLACK TRUFFLE CROQUE MADAME! I know I emphasized this meal in my last review, but I must reemphasize that this is the BEST Croque Madame, if not the best breakfast, I have ever had in my whole life. Finally, I must specifically mention the team members who work at the Ranch Club restaurant and bar--thank you so much for the above and beyond service you provided to us, and your outstanding hospitality. And finally, a very, VERY special thank you to Connor Jacob, the resort manager at Calamigos. We are so beyond grateful for your kindness, sincerity, and making sure our every need was met during our stay. THANK YOU! I could rant and rave for pages on end about all of the people and things that make Calamigos Guest Ranch so great, but unfortunately I am limited in my character count, so I will end with this: Calamigos is Paradise. It is hands down the best resort you could choose to stay at in all Malibu (if not, all of Southern California in my honest opinion). Treat yourself to a bungalow suite, and allow the team at Calamigos to take it from there as I can guarantee they will take care of you like royalty and make your stay at the resort an experience that you will never forget!

Came to go to Malibu cafe to find out they closed and Hogan at front desk was nothing but a pleasure and helpful to know where to go on pch as an alternative. We Will be back to stay the night and look forward to seeing home again.

My wife and I wanted to do a little staycation in LA with our 10 mo old son. We had friends stay here before and share how amazing it was, so we decided to give it a try. To address concerns first: Is it expensive? Yes, it's certainly an investment. It cost more than the other properties we were considering but our friends stories + reviews led us to going all-in. You feel spoiled from the start. We got out of the car into the beautiful check-in area and were handed chilled champaign while they got our keys ready. And they just don't stop: the rooms are full of snacks and bottles of water, there's a bottle of wine waiting for us, and the fridge has other chilled drinks, all included. There were more little thoughtful surprises throughout, but I won't spoil the fun. (For what it's worth, the water is not off-brand it's Avion, the soaps are generic they're boutique, the snacks are legit...you get the idea - they don't cut corners anywhere.) Next concern: Is it far? Even being local to the westside of LA it was far. If you're from out of town, you'll definitely want a rental car to get out that way. BUT, you really really feel removed from the city and totally surrounded by nature. It was exactly what we were hoping for. There are also cool spots to check out in the area on your way out or back (including wine tastings, small cafes, etc.). Those were our only concerns. Now for the good stuff: The Team: Every single person we interacted with was delightful. Cheerful, felt genuinely interested in how we were doing and, if we needed anything, they were quick and proactive to help no matter how small the request. They all seemed to remember our names, prior conversations, details...amazing. And, while the team is everywhere to help, you can also just text the guest services number (they'll reach out to you first so you have it) and anything is addressed so quickly. From the valet, to check-in, to the bars/restaurants, the pools, the spa...every single person was fantastic. The property: It's huge. I believe 250 acres or something like that. We stayed for 3 days and wandered a ton but still want to come back to explore more. It's beautiful, rustic, quiet, and well maintained. The facilities: You're a "trapped audience" since you're at the resort, which sometimes means a place knows they don't have to work as hard on the food and such. Not here - every plate we had was delicious. Shockingly so. The pools were surprisingly not overcrowded, and they're open 24 hrs a day - day swims are refreshing and night swims are magical with the subtle blue recessed lighting. You also get access to their beach club with is definitely worth going to. You show up there and are immediately greeted and they set up your own beach chairs/towels/umbrellas/etc. You can hang in the beach house or go under the tunnel to the beach, both have food and drink. The rooms: We stayed in a bungalow which was really comfortable and had an intuitive layout. The beds are firm - which we read some people weren't fans of but we slept great. The outdoor private deck area is nice to relax in in the morning or evenings, and an outdoor shower under the stars is always a treat. Random: It was great with a baby. We weren't sure how that was going to go, but other guests and the staff were all so kind and caring, and the baby loved exploring and swimming. There are cows and horses on the property if you seek them out, which kids and adults loved. Malibu Cafe is part of the property which is a really fun outdoor dining-meets-park venue. My sister and her husband met up with us for brunch - easy and delicious. They charged up our tesla free of charge upon arrival, and I saw they were charging other kinds of electric cars too, so take advantage of that if it applies. The other aspect that made the stay was actually the other guests. We met people from near and far, old and young, and everyone was so nice and interesting. Ok, that was my stream-of-conscious overview the day after we returned home - I hope it's helpful and motivating. We loved it (if that's not obvious) and will be back again.

We had such an amazing weekend surprise vacation. My fiancé proposed at Calamigos Ranch with the help of the surprise proposal by Kurt. Kurt was truly so amazing in helping coordinate our proposal and all of our vacation stay needs. Thank you again Kurt for all of your help and making this such a memorable weekend for us! We will forever remember this stay! We will definitely be returning for our future vacations at Calamigos ranch!

    Calamigos grounds

Calamigos can only be described as the best resort experience. My favorite thing to do is go to high resorts. Calamigos is just head and shoulders above the rest. The grounds are expansive and 5 star. You could spend a week here and only explore 50% of it. I think there are 5 pools. The rooms are huge, beautiful and so well appointed. From robes to a dental kit. Multiple fire places burning real wood all around. They even have a turn down service with warm cookies and milk!!!! The food was amazing. They just retooled the menu at the ranch club and it was delicious. You have access to a beach club and also the Malibu mountains. It's the best of both worlds. They will transport you down in their sprinter van Cadillac Escalade. The only thing that's better than the resort itself is the staff. We forgot our sweatshirt in car and they brought it to our restaurant while we dined. Jerri in resturant is amazing. Connor was helping check us in the valet stand. Can wait to come back!! Malibus best kept secret. Not so secret anymore.

I stayed at the guest ranch on my birthday weekend. My friend, and I opted for this ranch because it presented the safest option during the pandemic. While my birthday was a dream, my experience here left quite a bit to the imagination. Pros: Guests get a private place to stay. No sharing elevators, no sharing common space unless you want to sit by the pool or sit in the lobby space. The room had a patio and an OUTDOOR SHOWER which was AMAZING The bartender made me a nice vegan drink that was off the menu. He did seem on edge when my friend showed up...(I suppose one black person is tolerable, but two is insufferable?) The beach club was a positive experience! They brought us our chairs, an umbrella, and complimentary COCONUT water!!! Yummy! This was the only place that exuded the professionalism that all customers should receive. They also had vegan options for all meals. They were able to get me a Nobu reservations!!! I really wanted to eat at Nobu for my new year, so this was actually a really great plus. Not sure if it weighs out the cons though. Cons When I arrived, the woman checking temperatures was quite indignant. She acted as if she had a chip on her shoulder during the initial encounter and every encounter after. The first face customers see should be welcoming, instead, this person treated us like lost travelers who stumbled in for directions. The receptionist staff mirrored this attitude, and they never circled back to tell me I could check in (I arrived early and they told me I would hear from them at check in time). No shuttle!! We had to cab it to and from the beach club, which is there property!!! The cabs almost always had issues finding the place also. So if you don't rent/bring a vehicle, be advised. The French toast was some of the best I had, but it was also the smallest portion I ever received. We were prompted to tip on all meals, though gratuity was included in the bill. This was stealthy done, so very off-putting. Our neighbors randomly blasted Britney Spears and Gwen Stefani after midnight on the first night we were there...not cool at all. *****Bottom line: My friend and I were stared at the entire time by other guests and staff. We were treated as black people were in "white only" spaces in the early 20th century. This treatment persisted throughout my time here and honestly, no good could cancel out the prejudice that hovered over us the entire time. This experience was very disappointing, uncomfortable, and the reason why I'd never stay here again. Honestly, with everything going on in the world, I actually didn't feel safe. I felt minutes away from someone calling the cops and deeming us "trespassers." It's really a shame that "upscale" continues to harbor a racist undertone. Moreover, my friend and I were able to escape one pandemic, but not the other...

Came as one of our anniversary trip and it didn't disappoint! From the first minute I walked in the lobby I was amazed by this place! (Aww! So beautiful!) From how they greeted us in their lobby, handed up a glass of champagne to welcome us and another bottle of complimentary red wine in our room, the staff there def made us feel super accommodating!! The ranch itself is huge! I though it was fun walking in the ranch, I met a cow and a cat! They were both lovely! There's a bar in the lobby, and 2 pools and a warm spa pool for you to enjoy at night! They even offered free shuttle bus for us to go to their beach club, which is just right next to Malibu beach! (Around 10-15 mins drive, not far) In the beach club, you can order drinks, play pool, or even do the sunbathing by the beach! (They offer you free beach towels and you can ask for beach chairs too) The only downside was the room is a little bit too small, but other than that no complaints! We enjoyed our staycation here a lot, I really felt so spoiled staying in this place! All in all, we had an incredible time in this place! I did love the stay here, Calamigos is so magical! I'm so glad that my man picked this place to celebrate our anniversary! One of the best trip ever! So much love!

The building is three stories, I believe and each room has balcony access. I got an oceanfront room. The view from the balcony is absolutely stunning! The best part of my stay was the breakfast room service where I got an omelette, potatoes, steel cut oatmeal and fruit juices. I ate outside to the stunning ocean views and crisp sunny beach weather. Each room is very cozy and has an electric fireplace. Since I went at the end of April, I definitely used the fireplace at night. I ordered a large baked chocolate chip cookie à la mode in the evening before bed and ate it in front of the cozy fireplace. Another impressive feature was the heated Toto toilet in the restroom. I'm normally grossed out by hotel toilets but this fancy toilet made the toilet inviting and attractive. The toilet was sensor flush and you could use it as a bidet too I think, though I didn't use it that way. The bed was very comfortable and the shower had many settings that made it feel like a spa shower where the jets were able to hit different parts of your body like a jacuzzi massage feature. The reason I'm giving four stars is for the cleanliness of the restroom. The room was nearly $1000 a night so I expected the whole room, including the restroom to be spotless. However, there was some leftover hair in the sink and shower from the previous occupant. That really grossed me out and affected my general impression of the place. Hopefully they will improve their house keeping maintenance so I can change my rating to five stars. Overall, it was a great staycation however.

This hotel charges anywhere from 600 to over $1000 a night so it is not in a class of Hotel where you expect them to skimp on the food. However, the bakery goods they serve are brought in from somewhere else, not prepared on site, and refrigerated so when you have a chocolate croissant, you have the choice of having them bake it, which turns into melted chocolate or not warmed, which makes it taste like rubber. While this is somewhat of a petty complaint there are just certain things you expect of hotels that cater to people who can pay anywhere from 600 to a couple thousand dollars a night and you expect that certain things are in line with that degree of expense. However, in this case, not only the croissants, but the food and menu is somewhat marginal and clearly they are in need of someone new overseeing the kitchen Also, when I did ask for the manager, someone introduced himself as a person who was on duty not necessarily the manager in the response I got is something that I really dislike. The response is that we've been doing this for years. Having refrigerated bakery goods is not something they should be doing for years at this type of restaurant. This is one thing that really needs to be changed if I want refrigerated, croissants, or pastries I I can go to Ralph's or Vons or a grocery store. Frankly, even a donut shop has better bakery goods than this hotel.

Our naturally lit, cozy room was beautifully appointed; even the robes were deliciously soft. Our first night, we ordered 3 entrees and each voted for different favorites (always a good sign). The ambiance was fantastic, the cocktails were excellent, and the food was truly outstanding. Our experience at dinner prompted our decision to stay in for breakfast and for lunch the following day - and every single dish was stunning. In fact, we even returned, post check-out, for a repeat of the veggie bowl with chicken (a must). The VIEW: imagine twinkling sunshine, a lineup of surfers catching perfect waves, the Malibu pier...all while sipping their signature drink - The Endless Summer. Simply put, heaven. Their tiny gift shop has such a great selection of candles (our favorite), clothing, prints, and essential oils. Sunscreen too, if needed. We went home with 5 candles, 2 sweatshirts and the most adorable print. The complimentary morning coffee and electric car charging were unexpected, delightful touches. After checking out, we were informed of a forgotten item via chat - they even offered to ship it to us, if we weren't able to return in-person. We couldn't have been more excited for an excuse to return. As lovers of boutique hotels and beautiful experiences, this stay exceeded even our highest expectations. Each interaction felt genuine and remarkably kind. Thank you for taking such perfect care of us, Surfrider

On walking in, a very friendly receptionist offered to take us on a tour that ended at their rooftop bar. The suns warmth and mellow surf music brought me back to the laid back California of the 70s, where you could simply enjoy the vibe and everyone was friendly. Ordered local NA beer and shared a steak taco while enjoying the dead on ocean and pier view. Remarkably, the place was not crowded. Frankly, haven't felt so mellow in years. A wonderful surprise.

It looked perfect due to its saltwater pool and gorgeous photos online. There were so many great reviews...what could go wrong? We booked the guest house as some of the other options that were less pricey did not have pool access according to one of the owners. So we paid the extra couple hundred for the pool. We arrive and all seemed as described in the guest house. Within the first hour my daughter was crawling anround and picked up a cigarette that was on the floor just under the couch. No big deal. We unpack and head to the pool... The pool was green, smelled, and was cloudy (nothing like the photos online). I message right away and get a text back indicating the levels were tested that day and were fine. Hmm. At this point I didn't know what we could do other than make the best of it. We decide to make some food as we were told the kitchenette included a convection oven. Nope nothing but a microwave. So we order take out instead $$. My son wanted to roast marshmallows bc I told him there was a fire pit outdoors. We head over and it's filled with leaves. This was also the case with the outdoor bbq. Not a big deal but we didn't spend the money to clean the amenities, and we were worried about the smoke if we left the leaves. On our last day my son opens a little decorative box in the living room to find a green rotten string cheese yikes! It is important to note the guest house has sliding glass doors at the entrance of the guest house. Directly in front is where guests of the main house will park. Our view was of 5 cars and there was a lot of activity so we had to keep curtains shut the entire time. FYI- There is no sink for washing dishes or baby bottles. We had to make do with the bathroom sink. Once returned I let them know how the stay was and I was told they found out the pool had been clogged and they were out of the country. They offered a discount next time which was appreciated but I honestly feel we should have been compensated. I sent a text and emailed my thoughts but am getting no response. They were quick to respond when it came to booking and taking my 500$ deposit. I'm so bummed about this experience because it is a beautiful place if it were maintained and if the pool were safe to put the kids in. Last photo is of us making the most of it on the rock :)

My husband, toddler, and 5 months old stayed here for 3 nights on Memorial Day weekend…read more We had a great time from the moment we walked in: - the hotel is beautiful and location is everything - the staff is very nice, tries to call you by name to make you feel special, and everything screams quiet luxury - the room was very nice, well decorated and comfortable. The tub is the highlight. One comment would be that when we checked in with Anthony, who was so sweet to our toddler, also kept telling us we were getting upgraded to a very nice room. We got all excited. It was a normal room. The "very nice upgrade" just meant that we were on floor 5. I barely call that an upgrade but ok. - we asked for a crib, and we go a nice crib with a cute little baby soap kit from noodle and boo- very nice touch. And baby robes for the kids- my toddler loved it. My toddler was on a rollaway bed and they were super accommodating about it- great experience on that front. - balconies are tiny and I never saw anyone out when I sat out - pool staff was super nice. It was a chilly weekend and the pool could have been warmer (I couldn't get in, but I really don't like cold water). - the beach chairs are also very nice and we were surprised to find them available - they were extremely pleasant about our friends visiting us every day! - the lobby waiter during the day was almost inexistant. We had to go to the bar to ask for drinks. The woman at night was great. Now for the food...: - coast has a great breakfast, the lemon ricotta pancakes are excellent (though stupid expensive for pancakes) - pico is a good spot for shrimp cocktail and calamari. Hasn't seen shrimps that big in a long time. - overall the food was good everywhere but way overpriced.... The kids menu are ridiculous... hard to justify spending $28 on kids pancakes. That being said, the portions were the same as adult portions... maybe make the portions smaller, and price more accessible? Overall we had a great stay, and while on the expensive side, we agreed we would come back. Nicely done!

This happened on 7/28/2024. I walked home and within a few hours, I began projectile vomiting, among other things. I definitely know it was the breakfast steak, which I usually never get. I thought it would pass in a few days, no big deal. It did not, and it turned into Sepsis and Pancolitis within a week. I was bleeding internally and by the next Sunday, I called the paramedics to my home because I could not stand up. I almost lost my life. I spent almost 40 days in the hospital over the next 4 months - it's now May 2026 and I still need one surgery that my insurance does not cover. I had every complication under the sun. I lost my home, my new office that I just signed the lease for with an ocean view, my vehicle, my good credit, but most importantly, my good health. I had never been admitted to the hospital before in my life. I am a Doctor of Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine, so I lived a very healthy lifestyle, working out frequently, clean diet. I contacted ETC Hotel group, Edward, who owns the Coast Restaurant in Shutters along with Casa Del Mar next door. They had no response for me. I am forced to get a lawyer now. I was supposed to join LAXPD that year. I already finished testing. This has, clearly, been put on hold. Edward was the one who did not get back to me. I emailed corporate and his personal email. Update: June 9, 2026. Hello Elica Y. I am highly offended by your response. Please, no response is better than a lie. There was no comprehensive review. Your insurance company, United, requested information from my lawyers which has not been sent out yet. In fact, according to my bank statements, I dined at your restaurant, Coast, the evening before AND the morning of this incident. Chef Vitorrio would always bring out food for me as we were very friendly and I was a local. Do better. Say nothing.

The Enchanted Manor was the first place we looked at and we both felt that it was the right fit. Georgia has created a little oasis in her back yard that we felt fit our vibe - lowkey, but classy. We had booked originally for approximately 60 guests, however once all the pieces fell into place we were closer to 50. Unfortunately our guest count dropped below 50 just after our window to let Georgia know, but she was kind enough to offer us the price difference. We applied that balance towards renting some heaters and lighting the fire pits as the weather got colder than anticipated, as well as to handling the trash. (Pay attention to the contract, you are responsible for removing trash or there is a fee.) One thing I didn't realize before booking was that there is space for a kitchen, but it needs to be built out for your event, so make sure you consider that into any costs. Georgia was really helpful and responsive to all of our questions (we had so many) and anything that we couldn't do she had very reasonable reasons. (For example, at one point I thought I'd like confetti, but she explained why she doesn't allow that on her property which made total sense!) The weeks before I became worried that there wasn't enough decor, so we bought some items that we ended up returning. Once the rentals arrived, combined with the lighting, everything was beautiful as it was. Though there is excellent lighting, I would recommend watching your step as we did have a few tripping incidents (that were not alcohol fueled in some cases) as the ground changed. It was more due to the way things were spaced and we'd have to make sure to look down as we stepped around things, but we managed to survive. We've started to see some photos and everything looked beautiful; it was a romantic but relaxed vibe which was just what we wanted. I worried it wouldn't feel like a wedding, but it did. Georgia was a gracious host, our guests enjoyed her home (we made sure to tell them that they could rent it as well for an overnight getaway) and we can't wait to start reading her book. She gave us the sweetest compliment after, saying how kind our guests were and how that spoke to who my husband and I were as well. We stayed in touch after the wedding and I hope we meet again in the future for events or just a dinner to hear of her adventures! PS - her cats were big hits all around, too!
