Best hotel experience I've ever had, hands down. The grounds are breathtaking. The hotel staff are attentive. The rooms are quaint and clean, and they deliver fresh coffee and pastries to your door every morning in a leather pouch (which means my stomach and wife are ever so happy). The only complaint: they need more gourmet restaurant options on the grounds, and especially ones with a lounge that stay open late. Everything else is perfect. (I did twist my ankle playing pickleball, though...but I promise not to sue.) :D read more

Deeply Disappointing Experience After Reopening My husband and I were excited to finally try the newly reopened restaurant at Campos Ranch, especially after it being members-only for several years. Unfortunately, booking a table here turned out to be a regrettable decision. Shortly after we were seated, a table of approximately ten children--ranging from toddlers to early elementary age--was placed nearby with no adult supervision at the table. Their parents were seated separately and appeared completely disengaged from what was happening. The result was nonstop chaos: children jumping on chairs, rolling on the floor, fighting at the table, and shouting throughout the dining room. At no point did any parent intervene. To be clear, this is not about children being present. It's about adults failing to manage their children in a shared public space--and, more importantly, about restaurant management allowing this behavior to continue unchecked. It showed a profound lack of consideration for the other guests who, like us, paid full price for what is supposed to be a quality dining experience. What made this especially frustrating was the complete absence of intervention from staff or management. Allowing one table to completely disrupt the dining room is disrespectful to every other guest. A restaurant--particularly one positioning itself as an elevated destination--has a responsibility to set and enforce basic standards of conduct. Overall, the evening left us feeling that courtesy, consideration, and basic dining-room etiquette were not priorities here. I strongly encourage management to rethink how situations like this are handled, because no guest should have their experience ruined by unchecked behavior at another table. read more

The grounds are clean, and 5 star service is provided, even while busy. The food was also delicious, (kudos to the chef). Would love to visit again. We stayed in an Estate Suite room. It was very nice and pleasant, and the main lobby lodge is beautiful. However, there was a lot of noise from neighboring rooms and outside events nearby. Both late at night and early in the morning. These rooms were advertised to us as soundproof but were in fact one of the noisiest we had ever stayed in. There was also weak water pressure and other small annoyances. But the noisiness was unacceptable, especially at such a premium price. read more

We just got home from our amazing time at Calamigos Guest Ranch. We arrived on a Friday and were greeted by Kurt . He was so welcoming. He walked us to our room making sure we knew about the many things to do and see on the property. Our room was beautiful including an outdoor tub. Gil who we saw throughout our stay at various locations on property was full of personality and charm . He even made me a delicious espresso martini to die for and chatted with us whenever he saw us walking around . The Beach Club was charming. We sat on the private beach where Nico brought us drinks and snacks as we sat looking at the best view . Across the board, excellent service from the beautiful grounds to the food at the Cafe. Right off the bat, I would like to start this review by sincerely thanking every team and staff member at Calamigos Guest Ranch and Beach Club for a truly beautiful and unforgettable experience--you made our Christmas holiday so very special and my husband and I are beyond grateful your hospitality. My husband and I have stayed at Calamigos before in a premium private cottage; it was extremely comfortable for two people; we especially loved the outdoor shower and the fact that the cottage was surrounded and shadowed by giant, beautiful trees. This time, we were fortunate enough to have the opportunity to stay in a newly renovated single bungalow...and WOW! I cannot express to you just how AMAZING the bungalows are! Our bungalow had an incredible (private) front porch with couches and a fire pit, which is where we spent most of our evening under the stars with a delicious bottle of Calamigos Cabernet Sauvignon. The king size bed was the most comfortable bed I have ever slept in. It was almost hard to depart from when waking up in the morning, but the resort has so much to offer on the property grounds (restaurants, hikes, spas, gym, several pools, hot tubs, etc.) that you don't want to waste a minute of your day sleeping it away. The best part of the private bungalow (aside from the enormous sized bathroom with a shower that is comparable to the size of normal bedroom and gorgeous built in skylight) is the outdoor bathtub. Again, you are surrounded by the beauty of nature and gorgeous, tall trees that provide for shade and privacy and it is soooo relaxing that I almost became a prune because I spent hours in this hot bath. Although the price for a single bungalow may seem costly, I can promise you it will be worth every penny so don't hesitate to book it, if it's available (these are very popular, rightfully so--and the book fast so don't miss the opportunity to stay in a bungalow if you can)! There are so many special features about this bungalow that make you feel like absolute royalty and you won't regret it. I don't want to fail to mention that Sundays are the best at Calamigos; when my husband and I arrived, we headed straight to the Ranch Club restaurant and bar with our dog (yes, it is a dog friendly resort--the most dog friendly resort you'll ever stay at!). On Sundays, they not only have TV's so you can watch football (a big part of our Sunday routine), but also endless mimosas and bloody Marys! But these are not just any mimosas and bloody Marys...they come with an assortment of charcuterie, fruits and desserts (see the pictures I've included for reference). Also, you HAVE to order the BLACK TRUFFLE CROQUE MADAME! I know I emphasized this meal in my last review, but I must reemphasize that this is the BEST Croque Madame, if not the best breakfast, I have ever had in my whole life. Finally, I must specifically mention the team members who work at the Ranch Club restaurant and bar--thank you so much for the above and beyond service you provided to us, and your outstanding hospitality. And finally, a very, VERY special thank you to Connor Jacob, the resort manager at Calamigos. We are so beyond grateful for your kindness, sincerity, and making sure our every need was met during our stay. THANK YOU! Visited The Ranch Club, which is Calamigos' guests and private club members exclusive restaurant, for a pre-birthday celebration. As usual, dining in was a delighful culinary journey. The Kurobuta Pork Chop was tender, as with the Braised Short Rib. The Sweet Chili Cauliflower and Shishito Peppers added to the wonderful explosion of flavors to the main course. Pair it with a glass of red and it's simply perfect! Ending the meal with Chocolate Fondue is a fun sharable choice with the family. Promptness and attention to detail is definitely on point. Michael, Carol and Berto completed the experience with their impeccable service. In a nutshell, amazing atmosphere and phenomenal service to go along with the perfect food! read more

I've been a guest at Calamigos Guest Ranch 5+ times, visited for an event/offsite, and my wife has spa treatments 10+ times since we moved to LA. In the past, the staff has been very helpful and professional. However, last night i had a call with an extremely disrespectful and unprofessional staff member. Im considering booking a family trip (8-10 rooms) at Calamigos for a weekend this summer, and i called about a question regarding their restaurant. The person proceeded to tell me im not allowed to go because im "not a guest or member". I explained the reason for my question and he continued to tell me i cannot go because im "not a guest or member". He refused to answer the question i had. I'm honestly shocked. We usually stay at San Ysidro Ranch, Rosewood Miramar, Post Ranch, Ventana etc and have never been treated like this. This is not a place that respects its guests and hope that they can correct their disrespectful behavior. Even if i was just a random person, you should treat people with respect regardless of their wealth or status. Very sad to see. read more

My wife and I wanted to do a little staycation in LA with our 10 mo old son. We had friends stay here before and share how amazing it was, so we decided to give it a try. To address concerns first: Is it expensive? Yes, it's certainly an investment. It cost more than the other properties we were considering but our friends stories + reviews led us to going all-in. You feel spoiled from the start. We got out of the car into the beautiful check-in area and were handed chilled champaign while they got our keys ready. And they just don't stop: the rooms are full of snacks and bottles of water, there's a bottle of wine waiting for us, and the fridge has other chilled drinks, all included. There were more little thoughtful surprises throughout, but I won't spoil the fun. (For what it's worth, the water is not off-brand it's Avion, the soaps are generic they're boutique, the snacks are legit...you get the idea - they don't cut corners anywhere.) Next concern: Is it far? Even being local to the westside of LA it was far. If you're from out of town, you'll definitely want a rental car to get out that way. BUT, you really really feel removed from the city and totally surrounded by nature. It was exactly what we were hoping for. There are also cool spots to check out in the area on your way out or back (including wine tastings, small cafes, etc.). Those were our only concerns. Now for the good stuff: The Team: Every single person we interacted with was delightful. Cheerful, felt genuinely interested in how we were doing and, if we needed anything, they were quick and proactive to help no matter how small the request. They all seemed to remember our names, prior conversations, details...amazing. And, while the team is everywhere to help, you can also just text the guest services number (they'll reach out to you first so you have it) and anything is addressed so quickly. From the valet, to check-in, to the bars/restaurants, the pools, the spa...every single person was fantastic. The property: It's huge. I believe 250 acres or something like that. We stayed for 3 days and wandered a ton but still want to come back to explore more. It's beautiful, rustic, quiet, and well maintained. The facilities: You're a "trapped audience" since you're at the resort, which sometimes means a place knows they don't have to work as hard on the food and such. Not here - every plate we had was delicious. Shockingly so. The pools were surprisingly not overcrowded, and they're open 24 hrs a day - day swims are refreshing and night swims are magical with the subtle blue recessed lighting. You also get access to their beach club with is definitely worth going to. You show up there and are immediately greeted and they set up your own beach chairs/towels/umbrellas/etc. You can hang in the beach house or go under the tunnel to the beach, both have food and drink. The rooms: We stayed in a bungalow which was really comfortable and had an intuitive layout. The beds are firm - which we read some people weren't fans of but we slept great. The outdoor private deck area is nice to relax in in the morning or evenings, and an outdoor shower under the stars is always a treat. Random: It was great with a baby. We weren't sure how that was going to go, but other guests and the staff were all so kind and caring, and the baby loved exploring and swimming. There are cows and horses on the property if you seek them out, which kids and adults loved. Malibu Cafe is part of the property which is a really fun outdoor dining-meets-park venue. My sister and her husband met up with us for brunch - easy and delicious. They charged up our tesla free of charge upon arrival, and I saw they were charging other kinds of electric cars too, so take advantage of that if it applies. The other aspect that made the stay was actually the other guests. We met people from near and far, old and young, and everyone was so nice and interesting. Ok, that was my stream-of-conscious overview the day after we returned home - I hope it's helpful and motivating. We loved it (if that's not obvious) and will be back again. read more

Calamigos can only be described as the best resort experience. My favorite thing to do is go to high resorts. Calamigos is just head and shoulders above the rest. The grounds are expansive and 5 star. You could spend a week here and only explore 50% of it. I think there are 5 pools. The rooms are huge, beautiful and so well appointed. From robes to a dental kit. Multiple fire places burning real wood all around. They even have a turn down service with warm cookies and milk!!!! The food was amazing. They just retooled the menu at the ranch club and it was delicious. You have access to a beach club and also the Malibu mountains. It's the best of both worlds. They will transport you down in their sprinter van Cadillac Escalade. The only thing that's better than the resort itself is the staff. We forgot our sweatshirt in car and they brought it to our restaurant while we dined. Jerri in resturant is amazing. Connor was helping check us in the valet stand. Can wait to come back!! I stayed at the guest ranch on my birthday weekend. My friend, and I opted for this ranch because it presented the safest option during the pandemic. While my birthday was a dream, my experience here left quite a bit to the imagination. Pros: Guests get a private place to stay. No sharing elevators, no sharing common space unless you want to sit by the pool or sit in the lobby space. The room had a patio and an OUTDOOR SHOWER which was AMAZING The bartender made me a nice vegan drink that was off the menu. He did seem on edge when my friend showed up...(I suppose one black person is tolerable, but two is insufferable?) The beach club was a positive experience! They brought us our chairs, an umbrella, and complimentary COCONUT water!!! Yummy! This was the only place that exuded the professionalism that all customers should receive. They also had vegan options for all meals. They were able to get me a Nobu reservations!!! I really wanted to eat at Nobu for my new year, so this was actually a really great plus. Not sure if it weighs out the cons though. Cons When I arrived, the woman checking temperatures was quite indignant. She acted as if she had a chip on her shoulder during the initial encounter and every encounter after. The first face customers see should be welcoming, instead, this person treated us like lost travelers who stumbled in for directions. The receptionist staff mirrored this attitude, and they never circled back to tell me I could check in (I arrived early and they told me I would hear from them at check in time). No shuttle!! We had to cab it to and from the beach club, which is there property!!! The cabs almost always had issues finding the place also. So if you don't rent/bring a vehicle, be advised. The French toast was some of the best I had, but it was also the smallest portion I ever received. We were prompted to tip on all meals, though gratuity was included in the bill. This was stealthy done, so very off-putting. Our neighbors randomly blasted Britney Spears and Gwen Stefani after midnight on the first night we were there...not cool at all. *****Bottom line: My friend and I were stared at the entire time by other guests and staff. We were treated as black people were in "white only" spaces in the early 20th century. This treatment persisted throughout my time here and honestly, no good could cancel out the prejudice that hovered over us the entire time. This experience was very disappointing, uncomfortable, and the reason why I'd never stay here again. Honestly, with everything going on in the world, I actually didn't feel safe. I felt minutes away from someone calling the cops and deeming us "trespassers." It's really a shame that "upscale" continues to harbor a racist undertone. Came as one of our anniversary trip and it didn't disappoint! From the first minute I walked in the lobby I was amazed by this place! (Aww! So beautiful!) From how they greeted us in their lobby, handed up a glass of champagne to welcome us and another bottle of complimentary red wine in our room, the staff there def made us feel super accommodating!! The ranch itself is huge! I though it was fun walking in the ranch, I met a cow and a cat! They were both lovely! There's a bar in the lobby, and 2 pools and a warm spa pool for you to enjoy at night! They even offered free shuttle bus for us to go to their beach club, which is just right next to Malibu beach! (Around 10-15 mins drive, not far) In the beach club, you can order drinks, play pool, or even do the sunbathing by the beach! (They offer you free beach towels and you can ask for beach chairs too) The only downside was the room is a little bit too small, but other than that no complaints! We enjoyed our staycation here a lot, I really felt so spoiled staying in this place! All in all, we had an incredible time in this place! I did love the stay here, Calamigos is so magical! My husband and I look forward to spending our anniversary at Calamigos each year. We think of it as our little slice of heaven. Not only are the grounds stunning, peaceful and beautifully landscaped, but the food and service are first rate. The pool is beautiful and peaceful and is the perfect place to relax and unwind. Each time we return we look forward to seeing our favorite bartender, Jordan, who we have now learned has received a much-deserved promotion. He makes each visit to Calamigos special for us. My husband loves bourbon and Jordan takes the time to share all the knowledge he has about different bourbons and we always walk away learning more and more about mixology and cocktails. He doesn't just make a fantastic drink; he takes the time to explain the complexity of the drink and the different flavor profiles of each of his delicious concoctions. When we visited this past weekend we had the pleasure of enjoying our dinner at the Ranch Club where Jordan was working the bar. He helped make our evening so special. Great place. Really beautiful rooms. The front desk team is super kind and the overall place is beautiful. We had some issues with the higher ups with communication regarding our stay, however. That's my biggest issue with this place. We were suppose to be in Estate Suite 7 since our wedding was at Birchwood. We booked it a year in advance. A week before our wedding I called to check on a brunch reservation and I gave our room number. The lady in reservations said we were moved due to filming of a tv show called "Fu*k Boy Island". Yes, just want I want next to my wedding venue. We were about to say "I do" while 30 feet away, dudes were competing for rights to hook up with random girls. Anyway, after some conversations with the head of room reservations, Mark Hatton, he took care of our room, which was really nice. He was really understanding as to why we wouldn't want to be in the main hotel since my bride was within walking distance of the wedding venue before. Our biggest issue was why did I have to call and find this out? Were we suppose to show up and find out that our room was switched to the main hotel? Weird. It all worked out and the wedding was epic once it was sorted out. Last thing I will add is this really strange 20% charge that the hotel charges guests. Basically they don't want you to have to tip while on property so they just charge you 20% on your stay and you put everything on your room. The problem is, they charge 20% on your overall stay, not on just your room service, and valet. So imagine you are spending $3000 per night and you stay 2 nights...with valet and food you probably walked away with $6500 in total charges. They ADD 20% to everything!! So you pay $1300 in tip for your stay! The total is $7,800 and then they tax the tip. Never heard of this at any resort. The weirdest part about this is that when we ate at the Ranch restaurant, our server told us that the money that is tipped isn't actually going to them. It goes back to the resort for renovations and such. So inappropriate. Enough venting, it was nice. Valet guys were incredibly helpful. The staff were nice. Bartender at the pool gave us a drink on the house for our wedding. Pretty great!! And they gave us a lot of cute stuff in our room (i.e. charcuterie board, fruit, champagne, etc.) and the rooms were cute. I just thought people would want to know the ins and outs of how this place operates. read more

Shame on Calamigos!! Their indifference is mind-blowing. 6 voice mails, 4 emails and 1 snail mail - yet no response. I'm going to try to make this long story short. We made a reservation for 12 at the Café 2 months before our end of Dec 2022 event. Confirmed 1 week prior by calling, and received an automated confirmation via text the day before. We RENTED a 15 person van to take kids to dinner for our daughter's birthday. When we got to Calamigos Ranch we were told the Café was closed for the season. Now what are we to do with all those kids, for dinner, 2 weeks before Christmas on a Sat night? What we ended up doing doesn't matter. What matters to me, is since trying to contact the Ranch since the week following their failure until today Jan 17 2023, we have been getting the run around. No one will call us back, return an email or even respond to snail mail. We have been told the Café was closed for the season, closed due to renovations, sold. Well what is it? And WHY are we not getting the call back we deserve. Is it because we aren't spending 10K on an event? Because we aren't a 'big' name? It's unacceptable, extremely poor business etiquette and leaves a very bad taste. We are out $$$ for the van rental, the issues and stress of having to find someplace that could accommodate a last minute large group around the holidays and having to explain to parents why we aren't going where originally intended. We have since learned (not from the Ranch) that the lessee and lessor of the Café ended the relationship Dec 1. But why wouldn't Calamigos cancel existing booked reservations? Since they won't own the name of the Café they don't care what happens to customers? And would it be so difficult to have someone return our call, for at the very least an apology. I'm livid and refuse to give them any future business. read more

I was invited to a wedding at the Calamigos Ranch, so I decided to turn the trip into a short staycation. The Ranch has strict guidelines regarding ceremonies held there during the pandemic. Our wedding even had on-site COVID testing. I was unfamiliar with the Ranch prior to the wedding announcement. Located in the hills above Malibu, it has been owned by the same family since 1937. It's a sprawling multi-purpose 250-acre property capable of hosting weddings, events and retreats on at least 9 different locations on-site. Plus it has overnight lodging, a dining venue open to the public (Malibu Cafe), and a separate Beach Club off Pacific Coast Highway. There's a stable, cow barn, vineyards, carousel and ferris wheel. Note that using GPS to get you to the Ranch may direct you to an entrance off Latigo Canyon Rd that is now blocked off. The proper entrance is off Mulholland Hwy just west of the intersection with Kanan Rd and Kanan Dume Rd. The road then divides (there was someone taking temperatures here) and you can head towards the Guest Ranch motor court or towards the events/Malibu Cafe parking area. All parking is valet ($38 for overnight guests). The event/Malibu Cafe parking lot can get VERY crowded, but the valets seemed accustomed to this. The Guest Ranch Lobby is a lovely pavilion with glass walls that fully open onto a shaded deck. There are many seating areas, and off to one side is a counter (it may have been a bar or concierge area) where house-made infused waters are offered. In the evening, this same area offers hot chocolate, hot toddies and sweet treats, including s'mores kits. You are given 2 maps of the property upon check-in, which I found ESSENTIAL to navigate the Ranch and all its offerings. Just beyond the Lobby is the pool area complete with food and beverage service, chaises and cabanas, plus 2 event rooms and a Pizza Bar (closed). Beyond the pools are the cottages and bungalows. Beyond those is the Spa Calamigos and Fitness Centre (closed), the Spa Pool and hot tub (open), and the Ranch Club restaurant, set up during the pandemic on an open lawn for Ranch guests only. The cottage/bungalow area is the sole reason for my 4-star rating. It's basically a trailer park, albeit a very well landscaped and maintained one. It was clear on the Ranch's website that most of its accommodations are pre-fab trailers, both single and double-wide. However, I was a bit taken aback at how close together they are set. Some seem to have private patios beyond their entrances, others have non-private porches. Some staff seem to live here also, based on items I noticed on some of the porches. The property map was not accurate here--paths that I thought would lead me somewhere were dead-ends. I came to realize there's really only one main path down the centre of the complex, plus one partially around its periphery. My accommodation was a "One Bedroom Suite Bungalow". It was a nicely decorated single-wide trailer with , in succession, a porch ("patio"), living room ( sofa-bed, TV, table and 2 chairs), a large bathroom ( 2 sinks, shower and lots of counter space), and a bedroom (king bed, bench, another TV and an armoire housing a small closet rod, a few drawers and a safe). There was a Nespresso machine and complimentary snacks and beverages, including a bottle of wine. Minifridges are available upon request. The Bungalow was quite dark. The living room and bedroom each had small windows that looked onto the wall of the adjacent trailer 3 feet away. Each also had 3 small square windows above head level. The most natural light came from the frosted glass windows in the entry door and in the bathroom. Despite the close proximity of accommodations, it was relatively quiet. I suppose 3 feet between trailers is better than a shared wall between standard hotel rooms. In contrast, the bride and her immediate family stayed in Estate Suites. The Estate Rooms and Suites are in a not-pre-fab building in a totally separate area from the trailer park, close to the prime wedding venues and Malibu Cafe. There is a separate pool here. Their Suites were laid out similarly to my Bungalow, but on a much grander scale. Semi-private patio with chaises. Ceilings about 20 feet high. A shower big enough to fit a dining table for 4. One Suite had a freestanding circular tub. Large walk-in closet. Split-level bedroom (which was also on the dark side). The Beach Club is a charming venue about 15 minutes away off PCH, for Ranch guests only. There usually is a shuttle, but not during the pandemic. The nicely decorated Club offers a variety of seating options both indoors and out. There's a fireplace, firepits and heat lamps Being PCH adjacent, there's a lot of traffic noise. Off the parking lot, there's a stairway to a tunnel that goes under PCH to a quiet stretch of beach where staff can set up beach chairs and also offer food and drink. I was hoping to have a nice time with my boyfriend and when we arrived we realized that the room had the worst view I've ever had in a hotel room and that there were a lot of stairs and I have a disabled dog with a stroller and they weren't able to find a better solution for our needs. The room is also not nice but I would not care about it if the view was better. I felt like in a bunker. They shouldn't have room like this. They handled the situation very poorly and one of the managers asked me a private question that I found totally inappropriate and made the situation even worst. Plus I love croissant and they have very cheap croissant :) . A place like this should have top pastry and food and not cheap choices. I was looking forward to stay in this property but I won't come back and I don't suggest this place to anyone. read more

The amenities and services were superb here. They have four pools, a spa, a gym, tennis courts, multiple bars and restaurants, a cafe, and more. It's a short drive to the beach, yet perfectly secluded within a forested part of Malibu. However, I'm knocking off three stars for the following reasons. We were never informed of various reservations from private parties and film sets, which interfered with our experience of the entire property. My wife and I were unable to hike some of the trails on the property due to film crews having all types of equipment throughout the area. Also we were unable to eat and enjoy the beach club due to a private party renting out the venue. It seems beautiful, sadly we were unable to experience the atmosphere. Above all the mattresses in the cottages were incredibly firm. Both my wife and I are side sleepers and we didn't sleep comfortably our entire stay. We're in our thirties and exercise regularly, so It isn't a matter of us having weathered bodies. Overall, this is a majestic property to reserve for private events such as a wedding, however the hotel experience was unfortunately lacking. I wouldn't stay overnight again, especially considering their prices. read more

Terrible traumatizing experience. Don't come here if you're a person of a color or if you're not an influencer. We did not feel welcome, everyone stared at us, staff and other guests alike. Management and staff essentially conspired to have us kicked off the property based on a baseless claim. They accused us, people of color, of being racist toward staff--the irony considering we were the only guests of color. It was a flat out lie and they stuck to it and banned us from the property, told us we were never welcome again. Don't support this business. If you want more proof of their terrible and abusive management, just look at the employee reviews on Glassdoor. Anonymous employees don't lie. read more

We had one of the most amazing & romantic staycations at this beautiful ranch in Santa Monica mountain. Everything was perfect from the minute we pulled up to resort front and to the minute we left! The amenities of this hotel were definitely the best. We got a whole bunch of goodies from the hotel for our weekend stay here. Little gifts from spa, wines, snacks, glacier waters, souvenir hats and more. Free champagne at check in and sparkling waters for the road after checking out. Front desk gentleman walked us to our premium cottage which made us feel very welcomed and warm. Our little cottage was cozy and private, I really liked the patio shower. Room wasn't too big but very comfy and functional. We went to the adult pool for a while before heading to hotel beach club. Pool area was big enough with two pools, one of them was heated. A lot of seatings and umbrellas, cabanas were free to use, mini hammocks were fun to sit in. Complimentary water resistance sun screen which was safe for child and sensitive skin. The drinks were very strong and tasty at reasonable prices. Lobby bar and lounge was a good place to hang out at night, we had a few drinks and fun times with other hotel guests late night. Keep in mind that guests do need to take hotel shuttles everywhere if you don't want to drive by yourselves! Hubby and I truly enjoyed our time at the beach club, it's a beach club house and restaurant on PCH. We took hotel shuttle to the club and they walked us to beach front down the hills through a tunnel. Since all beaches are public in California from coastal act, so there was non hotel guests on the beach too. Our hotel beach club provided chairs and umbrellas, we were able to order food and bottles of champagne from them. We spent an hour and half at the beach and took some nice photos until sunset hour. It was getting chilly so we headed back to beach club to eat our food. It was so quiet and we had the entire restaurant to ourselves mostly. The food was so tasty and refreshing, I think they had better food at the beach club than hotel Malibu cafe. I really liked the complimentary coconut water and it was the best for rehydration when I drank too much. This beach club and restaurant is open to public and you can get day pass to hang out here too. We had such a great time at this ranch resort in Malibu, all staff members were extremely friendly and pleasant. This is such a hidden gem in Santa Monica mountain, we would like to come here again in the near future! read more

They treat you like you are a guest in their home. An amazing staff: Aleka, Jackson, Samantha, & Jake. Anthony went above and beyond to make me feel so special on my birthday. The day started with guest services bringing champagne on ice to my room, then coming in the afternoon with milk and cookies, and then a special table reservation sign customized just for me. Wonderful experience. I stayed here for my wedding weekend. They called me a week earlier asking if I needed anything. So nice. Since my bridal party was doing hair and makeup here, I asked for additional makeup chairs, 15+ plates and set of utensils, glasses, napkins, etc. They asked if I needed an extra fridge, which I declined. The room was beautiful. Unfortunately it was too hot that weekend for me to enjoy the private spa, fireplace, waterfall, etc. on the balcony. They had a California King bed that was so comfortable. They provided complimentary snacks and wine. They even added these cute bride and groom rubber ducks and a personalized candle. Too cute. Everyone was so nice. The front desk, the staff who transported and delivered all the luggage and extra amenities, the drivers, everyone... so nice! One of the employees I ran into was incredibly sweet and sent a complimentary bottle of wine to our venue on our wedding day. They made the weekend wonderful! A few downsides: - The door to the inside room had a funky lock. You are unable to close it from the outside because you have to use the lock to hold the door in place. We didn't want the door opened because of the AC and the bugs kept flying in. We were in a a chaos that morning to do hair and makeup and had to rush to the venue so the last person to leave didn't/wasn't able to close the door. At the end of the wedding night, coming back to a room full of flies was a terrible experience. I swatted and killed probably 15 flies that night. They should look into this and change the lock mechanism. - Golf cart service could be better. My room was a far walk from the parking lot and the weather was hitting 100 degrees outside. For my bridal party and vendors to have to trek that distance in that heat with luggage, dresses, etc. was just too much. Every person that walked in from the heat was drenched in sweat. I wish they had golf carts readily available. There are only 4 couples getting married each day at Calamigos. They should just have 4 golf carts available every weekend for each couple. 5 stars is really for the staff. They went above and beyond. read more

My friend and I booked Calamigos Ranch as a girls weekend/home base for racing in the Malibu Triathlon. The property/surroundings is as beautiful as advertised and our room- a 2- bedroom bungalow was spacious and nicely appointed (loved the outdoor showers). We indulged in several poolside drinks and the food at the Malibu Cafe, while pricey, was delicious. The staff was very friendly (shot out to Carlotta who was an absolute gem) and while the weather didn't cooperate, we enjoyed our visit to the Malibu Beach Club and private beach. The cons: Nearly every restaurant was closed at some point due to weddings. We had loud neighbors every night- blasting music well past midnight. Transportation is unpredictable; while there is a shuttle, you need a car to explore surrounding areas as most rideshare won't come. The Spa made an error with our booking which made for an unpleasant end to our stay. read more

3.5 stars, because some of the negatives outweigh the amazing positives. Our room was the best part- luxurious king size bed with super plush bedding and wonderful pillows. Snacks in the room for a small fee, as well as other essentials you may have forgotten. Beautiful rain shower. We also had a little enclosed outdoor porch. And, they gave us a complimentary bottle of red wine! Surrounding hotel areas were also enjoyable. We liked the fire pit at night and listened to the music going on at two different weddings (we danced on the outskirts and had a fun time). Negatives of the room were that the sink sprayed water all over the mirror each time we turned it on. The shower also leaked under the door, so a bath mat was a waste. The ledge/shelf to store your shower items was broken, so we had to place our things on the shower floor. Customer service- mixed feelings here. The concierge was extremely helpful, friendly, and knowledgeable. The man who checked us in however, was not. We had to ask for a map and he did not explain to us the valet system. The valets let us park ourselves, so we thought it was unnecessary. Then we headed to our car to get our bags and they chased us and gave us the valet information. As we carried our bags, the front desk guy ran out and let us know that they would help us with it. So it wasn't clear all the luxuries we were afforded at this establishment until it was too late. However, the grounds were clean with staff everywhere to direct you if you were lost. The gym- not impressed here. Tons of machines, but they are old and uncomfortable to use. It was also too warm in the gym, and I am someone who is always cold. There also is not any WiFi available, so plan your playlist accordingly. Breakfast- it is no longer a buffet, sadly. You must order a la carte. I had to prompt them that it was complimentary also, so maybe that is changing. One person said they would deliver our food to the room, and then another said they were too busy. So mixed customer service here again. The almond butter toast was amazing and I would get it again. However, the American style breakfast (eggs, bacon, toast, pancakes, potatoes) was a disappointment. Bacon was limp, toast was served without jam, and the eggs weren't good. Pancakes were oatmeal and pretty tasty, but not what you might expect. read more

Had a fantastic stay at Calamigos Guest Ranch. Michael the manager, who greeted us upon arrival, gave us a world-class experience from the get go. He was able to upgrade our room, and we were blown away by the treats provided in our room in celebration of our anniversary. We had a fantastic dinner at the restaurant, and our waiter (another Michael) provided an incredible dining experience. Erica, my masseuse at the spa, gave me the best massage I've ever had. Everyone was kind and welcoming. We'll be back! read more

my friend and I stayed at Calamigos for Easter weekend. We wanted to stay somewhere that had a few people and close to Malibu. The places we were looking at were booked so we decided on CGR. My friend arrived before I did and let the lady at the front know we were on the premises. I met her at the pool and we stayed until check in time. The lady was pretty rude and I had to remind her that we were waiting in the lobby. So the point of us staying here was to be limited on car service and enjoy the grounds, however THEY DID NOT HAVE A SHUTTLE and the guy told us we would have to lyft/Uber to the beach club. No where on the site does it say they don't have shuttle service and trying to get a ride share to the ranch was a pain in the ass and expensive. I would've done better renting a car than depending on rideshare or Calamigos. We asked the guy if we could walk to the hiking trail and again it was suggested to contact a rideshare. We were the only young black girls on the grounds and let me tell you it was AWKWARD AF!! When we walked through the pool to get to the front we could feel the piercing stares from the other guests. I was very uncomfortable the rest of that day. Also, i asked the guy at the front desk where was the smoking section and he told me by the valet. As I was walking back towards my room, I saw a couple walking the grounds and smoking. :/Again, more miscommunication. The Beach Club was about the best experience. They set us up w chairs and an umbrella. Although, they did get our food order wrong the beach club was most exciting. I definitely wouldn't stay here again only because it's not very diverse, the staff wasn't as friendly and the customer service nor grounds are worth the price per night. Next time we will be staying closer to Malibu and booking sooner so we can avoid this place. read more

We stayed at Calamigos Guest Ranch for one night only. Because of that we didn't get to check our all of their amenities but certainly got through a lot most importantly we didn't manage to get here early enough on our first day to check out the Beach Club. Overall we enjoyed our stay and the little details that made Calamigos memorable. Starting off with our arrival Calamigos offers valet for parking and has Tesla chargers so they will plug you in during your stay (these aren't super chargers it was just standard charging I believe but a nice touch while our car was here overnight). The ranch was spacious with each room feeling secluded enough to have your own getaway. We stayed in the signature single suite which was spacious it had two televisions, a fireplace, and a private patio. TV's were equipped with a streaming software so you could easily stream Netflix, Hulu, etc from your phone using your own accounts. Little touches like slippers, robes, a candle with your name on it, a bottle of wine, and a basket full of delicious snacks upgraded the entire experience. Getting around was easy they had maps to explain the area. The gym was large and connected to the spa (they have a Peloton bike for Peloton riders). The Spa was quite big we enjoyed a couples massage but didn't check out the spa pool. Instead we visited the main pool by the lobby which seemed to be livelier. The smaller pool was heated, the larger was not, all the cabanas were reserved with no one ever sitting at them. The pool bar served up delicious drinks. Food was a mixed review. We enjoyed dinner but it was very chilly they were serving the Ranch Club menu at the Malibu Cafe that evening. While the food was good I wouldn't say it's anything to write home about or go out of your way for. The next morning I got coffee at the saloon cafe which I would not recommend. I spent $10 on a single coffee drink that tasted average. We didn't want to bother with getting our car from the valet so are here our entire stay. There was filming going on for a show during our stay in an awkward attempt to find the hiking trail the production crew called us over and explained we were in the background of their shot. They didn't do a great job of blocking off the area or explaining what's going on in the future would've preferred more information ahead of time so we didn't feel so awkward about it. Our checkout ended on a sweet note with yummy agua frescas and souvenir hats from Calamigos. Overall would visit again for a romantic/relaxing weekend getaway but maybe venture out to get food elsewhere. read more

Wow, our experience here was just amazing. We stayed for one night after having our wedding at one of Calamigos's venues. Ben and Asher helped us get all of our stuff to our room close to 1:00am with a smile and excellent service. The room was stunning and the bed was very comfortable. I loved having a private patio. The grounds are stunning as well. We really enjoyed roaming around the pools and different pathways. Overall it's a really beautiful place with great service. read more
