    Beef and Pork Tacos
    Jeannie N.

Food is just not good here. Flavor, texture and quality is just all wrong. Had the pork and beef tacos, wish I hadn't. They also charge $10 for spam musubi. I best be getting a whole can of spam for that price.

Every time we go out of town we try our best to visit at least one food truck since we all know food trucks are awesome and it's usually where all the hidden goodies are at. Calbi Truck had such awesome reviews and so that is what helped us make our decision. There were about 10 food trucks parked on the side of Palisades Park and Calbi Truck caught our eye. I absolutely love Korean food and I was really excited to see a food truck that was Korean inspired. So my husband and my son decided to buy these sliders that actually tasted okay. My opinion of the sauce that they put in their sliders did not go together with the meat, it was actually a little off. I'm not too sure what the sauce was, but it was not agreeing with my taste buds. I ended up ordering a plate with the Calbi beef with rice. The beef had a good flavor to it, but for some reason it didn't taste fresh. I felt like the meat might have been sitting there for quite some time. The workers that were in the truck were definitely a 5 star rating as they were extremely polite and very helpful. I wish I could give more than 2 stars as they were really great people, but the food wasn't that good. Everyone has their own taste buds, so I can only speak on behalf of myself and what my husband and son told me so you should definitely try the place out for yourself because you may love it.

Only ordered and ate from here after walking around and not finding any thing other than burgers and fries at the Santa Monica pier. I had such a bad experience here. On the menu, they offered tacos, bowls, fries and rice balls. My bf and I ordered the rice BALLS, And a order of fries. The owner assumed I said BOWLS, and charged us $31. I was shocked at the price and I asked, I ordered the balls, it said right here 2 rice balls for $8 how did the entire order come out to be $31? He got out of the truck and proceeded to teach me an english lesson. REALLY? He proceeded to teach me how to say BALL and pronounced it BELL and his version of BALL is "bowl". REALLY NOW? Don't put it in your menu if you can't really pronounce it right.. Calbi fries were just regular fries and we were not offered ketchup. Ugh I hate writing bad reviews but this is definitely one of them.

Got the beef burrito as one of their burrito recommendations. The burrito was super soggy from all the sauce they probably packed in with the beef and the rice was kinda hard which made me a little sad because the burrito was essentially really saucy hard rice with beef, beans, and some veggies. I guess it was okay but wasn't really my thing.

    Really plain

I paid $10 for the Philly cheesesteak and received meat with cheese on a bun. I apearntly had to ask for the onions and they didn't have any green peppers. I was going to give at least two stars, but after biting into it... It turned out it really did suck 00.25/10

Food Trucks draw me to them like a fat kid loves cake and probably much more. We were about to leave Santa Monica and were just off the pier and started checking out the trucks along the sidewalk. There were about 8 or so ranging from Italian, Mexican, Gourmet Burgers, I think there was even a Brazilian truck too. After my eyes and stomach wondered side to side trying to figure out what to buy, I finally set my eyes on the Calbi truck and it was one particular food item that just stood out, Calbi Beef Sliders. We ordered Calbi Beef Sliders, Spicy Pork Sliders and a Calbi Beef Plate. My son ate the Spicy Pork Sliders and he loved them, he wouldn't rate them but since he devoured it I would say at least 4 stars. I ate the Calbi Beef Sliders, I was extremely happy to try this and then I felt such disappointment. They use regular generic hamburger buns which were soft but weren't right for the slider at all. The beef was really good but it was hard to enjoy because they piled on the lettuce and tomatoes and a sauce that just didn't complement the flavors of the beef. With each bite it felt like two power houses fighting for ultimate supreme on my tongue, 2 stars... My wife loved the Calbi Beef Plate that came with rice, kimchi salad and a macaroni salad. She loved her food so I had to grab a quick taste, now this is what I think is worth at least 4 stars. I could do away with the kimchi salad, maybe even the macaroni salad but that Calbi Beef over steamed white rice was almost immaculate. I saw some other items on the menu that intrigued me like Calbi Beef Nachos, as long as they do not drench the beef in an awkward sauce I think it will be very good. I still say if you are in the area, give them a try, they have some potential to be really, really good.

It's not bad, but there are better options. Veggies were mushy and too much bland Korean bbq sauce.

The staff was incredibly friendly and helpful -- especially for an indecisive person like me -- pointing out what's popular, what they personally like, and what they recommend. I chose to go the "build your own" route and landed on: 1. Base: Chili Garlic 2. Noodles: Yakisoba 3. Protein: Fire-grilled chicken 4. Toppings: Carrots, cabbage, red peppers, sesame seeds, crunchy chili garlic The portions are solid -- I easily got two meals out of one bowl. Since I like spice, they gave me a side of their spicy sauce, which added both sweetness and heat. With all the sauce, it was definitely a bit messy, but the flavor was bold and the kick was real. The noodles and chicken were cooked well, though next time I might choose something a little less intense so I can better appreciate all the ingredients. With that much heat and garlic, some of the other flavors got lost. All in all, lunch for about $25 on Abbot Kinney is a great deal, and I'll definitely be back to try more combinations!

The food was made fresh so served hot and the taste was delicious. HOWEVER. I did takeout and didn't look at the container until I opened it to eat. Major disappointment and concern as their thin plastic containers are most likely not heat resistant, which means chemicals leach into food. Cool concept as a store offering only noodle dishes but PLEASE change your serving and takeout containers!!

Although the facebook page is relatively accurate in listing which trucks will be present, you may be surprised by what trucks are actually there. The variety is nice with a mix of American and ethnic cuisines, street food and entrees, cheap to moderately expensive offerings and dinner and dessert. The parking is either street parking or the adjacent lot for $6. There is seating on the grass nearby or at The Victorian restaurant next door. The lot is small and a little crowded with the trucks, the lines and people walking through. There are also a couple of vendors selling jewelry and trinkets. Drinks are sold at a makeshift bar or at The Victorian. It's a nice event where you can try food from several trucks without having to deal with massive crowds and traffic. While I enjoyed it, my suggestion would be that the folks who operate the Santa Monica food truck lot hire some live entertainment. That would make for an awesome event. https://www.facebook.com/smfoodtrucklot

I had ingested several bites of it, (with hot sauce), but I couldn't take another bite. The meat was chemically contaminated & I got sick not long after for the whole night. It was important for me to tell the person that runs the stand. I had the best of intentions to help this business and wanted nothing in return. I walked up to the stand & asked the woman who takes the cash, (with the sharp eyebrows), if I could please speak to the person in charge, (or owner). At first she ignored me & then said, "I don't understand - no speak English." I asked who speaks English and she sent me to the back of the line by the cooks. I stood there for another 10 minutes and no one wanted to talk to me or answer my question. I told them that there was a big problem with their meat the night before & had brought back the entire meal, so they could try the meat. No one did anything except talk to each other in Spanish, (which I understood). The cook graciously offered me a replacement meal & tried to problem solve. The tall man, who spoke English, (as shown next to cashier Karen in the photo), was going to give me a replacement meal. I waited 15-20 minutes. I asked for the chicken quesadilla, and the vitriol that came out of cashier Karen, who said she didn't speak English was unbelievable. She refused to give me any food and said I had to pay $6 for the replacement taco. I tried to tell her that it was a replacement and she kept yelling aggressively at me and said, "no - you pay $6. You're not getting anything " and that I, "never bought any taco." She became angry and verbally abusive because I was getting a replacement meal, as a solution to my getting chemically poisoned. She was a bully and aggressively yelling at me to humiliate me in front of the other customers & personnel. By this time she had no problem speaking English. (A group of young ladies started talking to me, felt bad that I was the focus of cashier Karen's rudeness. They complimented me & wished me a good night.) The guy next to cashier Karen handed me the bag with the quesadilla. I asked cashier Karen for her name and she ignored me. Then I asked the guy next to her what her name was and he put his hands together like duck lips and rudely opened and closed his hand at me, (meaning that I'm talking to much) This was extremely inappropriate & as soon as I left, I threw the food out, because I didn't trust or hold it past any of them to have put something nasty in my food. By the way, there was never a possibility that I would be refunded. By this time I was so upset, I was sorry that I had generously tipped them the night before. Even cashier Karen's response to the tip had been of surprise; but then I remembered she had not even acknowledged it or said thank you, after receiving it. What this staff does not, is that I owned and operated a successful fine dining restaurant & wedding venue for 17 years. I have done consulting for small restaurant businesses, pro bono, in order for the businesses to financially thrive. I know how food is cooked, how it should be stored, when the oil needs to be changed, marketing, accounting, et al., as well as the health dept's requirements, in order to keep the public healthy and well. What I believe happened to the meat and reason I took my food back to the taco stand; is because they had been out of chicken. Since there was a meat shortage, more carne asada needed to be barbecued quickly. An abundance of lighter fluid was used to quicken the process & it possibly got on the grill, where the meat is placed; and the cooking process started well before the coals were ready. It shouldn't matter whether you go to a restaurant, food truck or taco stand, customers should be treated with respect, kindness & consideration - and it's called customer service. A customer shouldn't be lied to, yelled at, insulted and humiliated by any employee of the business. It should be run in a transparent and professional manner. I'm 64 yrs young & have never written one negative comment or review about any restaurant. Nor have I ever been treated with such disrespect, malice and ill intent. I felt it important to tell my story because nobody should experience what I did; in eating compromised food and then being made to feel like I did something bad. This is what bullies do and I've never had a problem in clarifying right from wrong, as well as responsibility and accountability. I didn't have a choice and had to give a star.
