This place is ok - based on my experience, I don't think it deserves some of the 1-star reviews that it's gotten but it's not my favorite. I stopped by here after a late concert and nothing else was open. Got an asada burrito for $10, which is honestly not bad these days in terms of price and everything tasted relatively fresh and good. I've definitely had worse. I think if I had one complaint it's that there was a very small amount of meat by comparison to everything else. I might try it again sometime. read more

We just love this taco truck, it is in Venice, right at the corner of Lincoln and Rose. It is open late, how late I am not sure, but we have been there as late as midnight and it was there. They have great Mexican food and a huge menu to select from. You will find things here you will not find elsewhere. They have beef tongue and head meat. They also have great fried pork skin. Their tacos are fantastic. Whatever you want they have. Their burritos are super and we love their rice. There is a little seating outside. You just order at the counter and eat there, in your car, or take home. They also have a third party delivery service, I think it is Grub Hub. Everything is good and we just love their Mexican Coke. The service is super nice and they are patient while you ask questions about things you have never had. Your food comes made just for you and it is hot and filled with flavor. Now, don't go wondering off on a midnight stroll in this area, it is not the best. Stay at or near the truck and have a great time. read more

This are the worst tacos (asada) i have ever had. I was in the mood for some street asada tacos, I never thought you could go wrong with tacos. Oh boy was I wrong. Having no crowd should have been a warning for us. We figured we got there at a good time We placed our orders for basic asada tacos and they took like 20min to be ready... since when do tacos take that long to be ready??? With no line!! I saw this place and decided to give them a shot. I have regrets about it. From the food to the service. Sorry to say but nothing was good. Total of 4 customers and food took damn near 20mins to come out. Not worth the wait. Got shrimp ceviche that had undercooked shrimp. Carne asada tacos that were subpar, and a burrito that was decent. On the hunt for good taco trucks in MDR/Venice, & we found this spot on yelp. Bf and I ordered 1 burrito and 4 tacos Al Pastor-Burrito 2/5 Chicharron-Taco 2/5 Cabeza-Taco 2/5 Chorizo-Taco 2/5 Lengua-Taco 5/5 (SO TENDER) We both agreed the Lengua was the best meat they had to offer, all others were pretty lackluster. If we come by again we'll just get a lengua burrito and maybe some lengua tacos. Lastly there was a bit too much beans in our burrito so maybe we'll ask for none at all or easy beans. read more

VEGGIE TACOS ARE REALLY GOOD HERE! I appreciate any good food - be it a great marinated pork or a great veggie dish. That said, a lot places don't make great veggie food unless that's their specialty. But this truck makes it right! Flavored (Mexican) rice, refried and whole beans, guacamole, tomatoes, lettuce, cheese, it's all in there! It's a really satisfying taco. Craving tacos and wanting to try something besides the usual 2 trucks we frequent, I remember seeing this one and a friend and I decided to try something new. I wasn't blown away by the menu selection. It was lacking some of my favorites, like mulitas or barbacoa, and had the usual taco truck staples like tortas, burritos, tostadas and tlayudas. Tacos are $1.50 each. Kinda steep for me, being used to all of my favorite tacos around $1 and my favorite truck offering them for 80 cents. My quesadilla was $5.50. We ordered four tacos: carne asada, chorizo, al pastor, and pollo, and a carne aside quesadilla. The lady taking our order was short with us and not very friendly..... she cut off my attempt to order in Spanish to answer back in English. I know I'm white, but still! She told us we couldn't order milanesa tacos unless there was a minimum of 4, and they were out of quesillo tacos, my fave. How do you run out of an ingredient that you have to use on EVERYTHING else? No salsa bar, the tacos come dressed for you. We got our food pretty quickly and nicely wrapped, and went on our way. The quesadilla was served with guacamole (more like avocado sauce), sour cream, lettuce and tomatoes. It was just about all meat and no cheese, which some may like, but I like a good ratio. The first bite was loaded with chunks of gristle. It got better after that, but still not the best quesadilla. Of the tacos, the asada and pastor were pretty ok, the pollo was good, and I LOVED the chorizo. Seriously, it was one of the best chorizos I've had. Great flavor without being overpowering, not greasy at all. The tacos came with red hot sauce and the avocado sauce, along with grilled onions, which I thought were unique and good. Spicy in spicy out... hot hot! I went for 3 types of Taco's. The beef was rather chewy, the chicken a bit dry and pork was to my liking. The flavor was mild but the hot sauce used was so overbearing that after a few bites I was reaching for water... definitely needed less spice and more flavor. Service was friendly though. read more

Hit up this mobile wonder after a raucous yelp event a while ago....free food is great, but somehow, I always need to supplement cuz it's NEVER ENOUGH. I'm insatiable that way. Sooooo......it was a bit of a trek, but DAMN, them eats are GOOD. And yay, open late. And double-yay, quick and friendly service. I ate something......it was......a.....carne asada taco!! I think.....hm.....memory was made hazy at said yelp event..... well, whatever it was, it was so delicious and I ate it so fast that my whiskey-marinated mind couldn't even process what it was I was eating. It was like Cookie Monster-style consumption, but with a taco instead of cookies--sound effects included. Luckily we were eating outside, otherwise, it could've gotten ugly. As a plus, this late-night meal ended splendidly with a bottle of mexican coke (as in, Coca-Cola....just to clarify). I love that stuff. REALLY wanted to like this spot. Service was pleasant, wait was reasonable (at 12:30am) I got a four-taco plate with two tacos de chicharones, one taco de carne asada, and one taco al pastor. The meat was... just a bummer on so many levels. They boast that their chicharones are "fried pork," when in fact, it is actually fried pork SKIN only. This is not the pure bliss of pork belly in it's entirety, instead it's gelatinous chunks of fat and skin. Gamey. Just really not the greatest thing I've tried in recent memory, to be nice about it. If you like the chicharones at Guisado's, you'll probably like the ones at La Oaxaqueña. In all honesty, the real tragedy was that I could barely discern between the carne asada and the al pastor. The only real give away was the gristle that I found in the asada. Otherwise, with the heavy dousing of "guacamole" (which is more of an avocado salsa, in my humble opinion) and hot sauce kind of masking the flavor of the meat, I couldn't tell the difference between the two. The textures (sans the gristle) were completely uniform - There was NO difference between the mouth feel of the pork versus the beef. My tongue said, "What the hell is going on????" No self-service salsa bar. They DO take credit cards, with certain caveats on minimum charges. They offer Mexican Medio Litros... Awesome. They are open until 2am. In my never ending pursuit to eat at every Taco Truck in LA (I know quite a daunting task) my journey continues with this little west side mobile eatery... My boy Jason L. and I were cruising back from the A/C lounge in Santa Monica when we both acknowledged that our stomachs needed some filling. You know how it goes when you've just been drinking and you need a little somethin' somethin' to soak up all that alchy in your gullet. You don't really feel like eating at any of the fast food joints. Not that drunk. Denny's.... no way... Norm's.... F- that... Taco Truck.... as Dr. Dre would say "Heiiiill yeah..." Cruisin' down Lincoln Blvd. bumping Illmatic, passing by the all the women of the night and homeless pushing their shopping carts. We pull to the side and make our way to the truck that parks between Flower and Rose. There's already a small crowd assembled at the glow of fluorescent light that emanates from the heap. I step up and order 4 Asada Tacos and a soda. "That'll be $6 senor..." I give the man my cash-ola and wait for bliss that awaits me. The food comes out in no time. 4 little tacos garnished with onions, cilantro, guacamole, salsa and carne asada. I wolfed them shits down faster then any dog I've seen eat. Surprisingly I didn't choke for lack of chewing properly. Hot damn these tacos melt in your mouth! Been a while since I've eaten at this truck. Oh how I miss thee... Great late-night option for cheap, tasty food. Selection is good, including tacos, burritos, tortas, memelas, tlayudas, quesadillas, etc. And they put an avocado salsa on everything. Nice little addition. My favorite is the taco de lengua. The chorizo is a bit disappointing. Oh, and they sell bottled coke from Mexico (yum!) and lots of flavors of Jarritos. Sidenote - the area is not well-lit. When I go super late, I don't feel very safe. If you're female, I recommend taking someone with you. read more

Not satisfied from another taco truck, I used my Yelp! app to search for another nearby taco truck. I wasn't able to find the truck that I was looking for, but stumbled across this one. I was hungry so thought I'd give it a try. Ordered the pollo and pastor tacos. Took about 5-7 minutes to make the tacos. While I waited, some drunk, possibly high, kids stumbled by and placed their order. I asked them if they've been here before, and they told me this is the only taco truck they go to. One kid said that other taco trucks cause him to have diarrhea so he just sticks with this one. That's good to know. The two drunk high kids continued to talk about some girl Katie and how one of them could have banged her but he felt guilty because he was already secretly banging her best friend. So Katie, if you read this, the guy who doesn't get diarrhea from La Oaxaquena taco truck that you want to get with is banging your best friend. Tacos were good. The meats were seasoned well, wasn't dry, and had good flavor. I liked the al pastor tacos over the pollo, but I guess maybe chicken is always going to be a bit more bland than pork. This was past 1AM on a Sunday night / Monday morning, and after driving around for an hour, this is probably the best taco truck in the area at that time. When the sun goes down the truck comes out. And oh man, what a truck!!! This truck is a gem. It's a Mexican regional cuisine specialty truck. WTF? Yes that's right a Oaxacan truck. They have clayudas the size of hubcaps with your choice of meat which includes the usual suspects as well as Oaxacan specialties Tazajo (a salted thin beef) and Cecina (marinated pork leg.) They also have Mulitas which I think may even be better then clayudas. The Tazajo is also a little better then the Cecina, being a pork guy that says a lot about the beef. They also have a variety of Oaxacan (yes, I know I'm saying it a lot, I like to say it: Oaxacan, Oaxaca, Oaxacan) pastries. The last thing I want when smashed on margies is a pastry so I've yet to try one. This truck is open late for your drunken convenience. Please don't waste your time here getting the carne asada tacos. They're probably good but why would you want one when there is more exotic fare to be had? You'd be hard pressed to find another Mexican regional cuisine specialty truck anywhere so don't screw it up, slacker. Definition time: Clayuda: a giant tortilla kinda like an over sized tostada but with a much better texture smothered in a black bean paste with choice of meat, and can have cabbage, lettuce, radishes, avocados, or tomatoes. If you get it mixta they add string cheese, I don't know why they ask because this really is more of a requirement then an addition, maybe their being sensitive to the lactose intolerant amongst us. Who knows? Who cares? Why are even discussing this? Just get the mixta. Mulita: similar to a sopes, it means little shoe and is oval as opposed to round with and indentation in the center that keeps everything where it should be. Typical fillings are black bean paste, choice of meat and raw veggies of the cabbage tomato variety and may even be a little crema hidden in there. read more

Everything I have just said is 100% factually accurate - I am not exaggerating and I am not being facetious. But I challenge you, to find a better taco for $1, or a better burrito for $3, in the entire United States of America. You cannot win this challenge, it's impossible. I decided to give this truck a try after seeing it #8 on the best burritos in Los Angeles. I ordered the Carne Asada burrito and was quite disappointed; it barely had any meat, and was drenched with salsa and guacamole. If I were to come again I would definitely just order tacos (4 for $6) since my boyfriend seemed to enjoy them, especially the dried pork one. However, if I were going to just get tacos I would much rather prefer to go to the El Chato truck or the taco stand on 7th and Mateo since those are a little cheaper ($1/taco) with excellent, flavorful meat. read more

Long before the new gourmet food trucks, these trucks, like La Oaxaquena, started the trend. Nothing fancy. No bling bling. Just straight up good food, at legit prices, mostly catering to the late night crowds. La Oaxaquena has a pretty extensive menu, including burritos and combo plates, tortas, etc. I've just eaten their tacos, and all have been great. The Al Pastor is great. They offer Chorizo tacos, which is rare, and they're good here. The Asada tacos are equally good. They do give a nice amount of meat, and the tacos come with all the toppings, including cilantro and onions, and spicy vegetables, upon request. Service is a bit on the slow side thought. Bottom Line: Probably the best taco truck option in Venice. Not sure if that's saying a lot. If you happen to be nearby, this might not be a bad choice for late night grub. This seems to be a regular stop for us after a long night out. The 4 stars are more for the convenience factor and vibe that happens around the truck than the actual food. Don't get me wrong. The food is decent. The carne asada tacos are OK but the al pastor tacos are really their bread and butter and even then, they are slightly above average. There are tons of fancy food trucks to pick from in the southern CA area, Los Angeles to be exact. Found this gem while going home to culver city one night from Venice. Its only available after about 10 pm. The food is fresh and their Milaneesa(breaded steak) tacos are delicious 4 for $10. The truck looks kindof old but the service is great, they take phone orders too, if you don't feel like waiting, which you may not because the traffic on Pico is pretty bad. read more

We had an urge for some great & quick homemade burritos at 10:30 on a Saturday night. We see this truck all the time and decided to give it a try. The carnitas & veggie burritos were awesome, but when the lady asks if you want everything on them make sure you're clear on the amount of fresh diced jalapeños you're getting. this is my truck, 2 blocks from the homestead. It's classic, small, 2 bite tacos, flowin' with oozy guacamole. I always nab a couple chicken and a couple el pastor tacos to go and skate home. The chicken is totally on-point. The el pastor is the winner. All in all, i thank the taco truck gods in general for blessing Los Angeles with their presense, but I thank La Oaxaquena for being so close, and being so nice. This is my local taco truck, and frankly, it's the bomb. These guys have never let me down. I just got done demolishing a torta asada and damn it was good. Tender, spicy meat, fresh lettuce tomatoes and guac, mayo and jalapeños right there on the sammich. Just ridiculously good. I also frequently get the quesadilla with chicken, that's my favorite so far. The chicken is from a stew with peppers, onions and tomatoes, and there's *just* enough cheese to hold it together without overwhelming it- and it's spectacular. It's hard not to get this every time. Of course, as other reviewers have noted the tacos are great and you can get them in a huge variety of meats. I can personally vouch for the pollo, carne asada, al pastor and carnitas, they're just mouthwatering. Top it off with the spicy carrots and you're ready for anything. Came here last night around 1am because my boyfriend and I were starving after the drake concert at the forum. I was yelping restaurants open near Santa Monica and Swingers and Denny's was the only thing open. I saw this place on Yelp and decided we should try it! We got 3 carne asada 1 chicken and 1 al pastor. I thought the tacos were really good except the quality of the carne asada wasn't the best. There was a lot of fatty pieces in it. The chicken was also really good! The thing that set it off for me were their fries!!! Idk if it's because I was starving or what but those might have been some of the best fries I've had! read more

Excellent tlayudas and tacos late into the night on the side of picturesque Lincoln Boulevard. I mostly eat vegetarian these days and the tacos de queso oaxaqueño are a great find. The tlayudas are huge and taste like the ones I used to eat back in Oaxaca City. Chorizo is (no surprise) in the Oaxacan style: dry and somewhat spicy and although I've never seen it served in link-form (it's always chopped as far as I can tell), it's delicious. Pro tip: Ask for a (no-charge) side of encurtido and jalapeños. read more
