A visit to TN landed ups at Calhoun's for a family dinner. As we were heading to the table , my sandals instantly stuck to the floor the waitress stated that it happens a lot. Or is it just not cleaned properly. Once seated we waited and waited for a staff member to come to welcome us and offer drinks however no one came over for a good 15 minutes once seated. The staff were seen in the corner talking and pointing. We then overheard that they were deciding who would get the table. The bartender then waited on us. She did not seem happy at all. We ordered ribs , brisket , etc the brisket was DRY and overcooked, an embarrassment to bbq in the south. The burger which was suppose to be medium well was rare. The next waiter who took over came by a when we were basically done and offered to further cook the burger but at that point we were done with the "meal" I told him about the brisket being dry and overcooked and he didn't seem to care. We paid the bill for everything, and left. Overall service was horrible- you work in a service industry, there's no reason why you need to come to our table with such an or facial expressions that don't look friendly. Bbq- if you're gonna claim having the best ribs or brisket, make sure it can live up to those standards I think 2 stars is more than friendly for this review. Would not return when visiting again. Calhoun's at Fort Loudoun Marina is always a lovely spot for a meal. With a full bar and excellent food this is a year round destination and during the summer months the marina provides amole entertainment when sitting on the balcony. Our server was most attentive and responsive to our needs. My wife had bacon wrapped burnt end and I had the teriyaki chicken with rice. We watched the seagulls, and other birds out the window and due to the cold, no boats came or went while we were there. Beautiful lakeside dining with delicious food. We came to Calhouns as a large group and were very well taken care of by excellent servers. They were kind, helpful, and took care of all of our needs. Had a house salad with a local vinaigrette it was delicious.the biscuits and muffins were delivered to table. Biscuits were perfect. The muffins a little dense for my taste. The sign at the front door was our first clue! Always hiring. There were four employees at the front when we walked in. We were early for our reservation, so didn't expect to be seated right away. The four employees were sorting through menus and said they would be right with us. They weren't. After approximately 20 minutes they acknowledged us. We ordered a barbecue sampler and the only positive thing I can say is the baked beans were pretty good. The pulled pork was dry and stringy. The chicken tenders were fair. The ribs were not great. The server was very nice and attentive. He was also the bartender (we sat outside). In summary, if you want to sit outside, have a drink and enjoy looking at the water and the marina, this is a good choice. If you want a good meal, based on our experience, this should not be your first choice. This could all be improved and hopefully it will be. I have eaten at other Calhoun locations including this one, and honestly they have been good experiences. read more

Haven't been in about a year. Definitely gone down. Our server was nice but very slow on drink refills. Waited a long time for our food and we were told the kitchen was slammed. It was later in the evening and the place was about 1/4 full. Our food tasted like it was sitting under the heat lamp for a while. Reviews at Calhoun's looked like this was a good place to try. They were very much understaffed. Our waiter was also the bartender for the time we were there. We had the bbq ribs. They were just ok for me. Plenty of ribs in the half rack. They were just a bit dry. The mashed potatoes were waxy and over whipped. The coleslaw is pretty good. So they do one dish right! It was fun watching the ducks, geese, fish and turtles swimming around. Looking at all the docked boats, meh. I'd rather look at the river. I guess when you are in a prime location your food doesn't have to be great. read more

Do not book reservations for trivia if you are a party of over four or they will try to place you in two separate booths. Only their regulars are allowed to sit together at tables! I booked a reservation for five for trivia two weeks prior and requested their larger round table and not a booth. I even called an hour before our reservation to ensure that we had that table and was told that we did. Upon arrival, on time, we were told that it wasn't available because the manager used it for a party of twelve that booked after us and assumed we would be fine in two booths! She also did this to another party of six who stormed out before us. They obviously don't know how to make reservations and consistently let the same teams play week after week making it impossible for any other parties over four people play even if you book out weeks in advance. What made it worst was that it was my military son's birthday who had just returned from overseas after a year away! She was unapologetic! We will sadly not be returning! read more

Loved our first experience with this local chain. Clean, friendly and food was on point. BBQ was our main mission, but the menu had so many options, we wanted to try them all. Husband started with the Brown Bear ale. Loved it. He usually drinks Shiner Boch as a reference. I DDd. Asked for my usual club soda and lime but was pleasantly surprised at the moch-tails offered. Server recommended the Berry Colada. (Tastes like a Strawberry milkshake). Loved it. Will be trying others on that list in the future. Appetizer. bacon wrapped Burnt brisket ends. Another new favorite. Tasty, rendered, fall apart on your fork. You also get to sample the coleslaw if you were on the fence about it as a side. Going to wrap this up. Husband enjoyed fresh broccoli and house marinated pork chop. I was more into my sides than the smoked meatloaf, but that was more a me thing. Walking in, it's decor is Waterfront, right next to the Marina... so fish are hanging in strategic places. Very welcoming. They do have outside seating, but we chose to sit at the bar. Kaylee M. was our Bartender. What a delightful lady. Smokey Mountain Brewery is their beer. Decided on the Cherokee Red. it was delicious soooo..... I ordered a 6 pack to go home!! Kaylee found out this was our first time in... she asked if we wanted bread. Corn, biscuits or garlic roll. Mmmmm,..... let see. . Kaylee brought us one of each, so we could have a taste of all of them. All were very good, but we LOVED the fresh made biscuits. So much so... we ordered 6 to go home. We ordered the Trio Platter to share. And, it was plenty enough. Kaylee said it was a great choice to sample all their meat. It was a tray full of pulled pork, 1/4 rack of smoked ribs & crispy chicken tenders with a side of coleslaw and baked apples. The ribs were tender with a good smoke ring / the chicken tenders were moist and had a nice crunch / the pulled pork was tender with great flavor. The food was cold, they ran out (even though I specified the number of guests) they charged guest for their drinks when I said I would pay for them......then they totally ignored my emails with the complaints. Always LOVE the lakeside dining experience here at Calhoun's. The decor with all the windows and outdoor sitting areas where you may enjoy the riverside views and dining makes one of the best dining atmospheres you may experience anywhere. The staff is always friendly and helpful about making suggestions from the wide variety of options on the menu. The food is delicious and my favorite like today is the BBQ chicken sandwich with sweet potato fries. I've eaten at a lot of restaurants throughout eastern Tennessee. The sweet potato fries with cinnamon sauce is the best here. I live in Athens but stop by Calhoun's about once a month for lunch while work keeps me on the road in east Tennessee. I highly recommend Calhoun's for great tasting food, high quality service and a wonderful and relaxing atmosphere. read more

We just left the Lenoir City, TN Calhouns and spent $120 for a Prime rib, turkey, and ham buffet. EVERYTHING, I mean EVERYTHING was cold!!! Could not eat anything, thought about getting a refund from a manager but just didn't want to deal with it on Christmas, but what a disappointment, especially today, having reservations weeks ago and looking forward to it! If they're going to have buffets they need to invest in equipment to keep it warm, not chafing dishes! I just don't expect to pay that much money for COLD food! I have been here about a dozen times over a two year span. Service and/or food is poor about half the time. What I liked: Great location. On the water in Fort Loudon Marina with boat slips. Nice menu. What I didn't like: The Food. Sometimes the food is terrible, served cold, BBQ Sauce that is fermenting in the bottle and we have actually waited an hour and a half for bad/cold food. The Service is also inconsistent, sometimes good and an equal number of times terrible. The last time a member of our party wasn't advised their entree wasn't available until our food was delivered! Often the orders aren't correct. Cleanliness: usually OK but on one occasion we refused a table due to it being dirty and food scapes on the floor underneath. Why did I go back so many times? Often it was just a convenient choice and it's fun to take the boat there. Other times it was someone else's choice who likes their other restaurants. We ate at the tiki, which is outdoor patio and dog friendly. The view of the water and boats was fantastic and there were TVs tuned to football. The ambience was comfortable, friendly and relaxing. Service was prompt and attentive. The food was just average. My pulled pork was extremely dry and was not served with any sauce so it reminded me of Arby's. The beans were more sauce than beans. On the other hand, the food took FOREVER, was not worth the wait, and when we had a situation where we needed to talk to the manager, he was very cocky and condescending. I just ate lunch today at the Lenoir City Calhouns. All I can say, the food was horrible today. I've eaten at the Calhoun's in Knoxville many times with excellent food. Today I ordered a full rack of ribs, I was delivered a half rack. That was no problem, my server brought me a full rack on top of the half rack. I started eating the half rack before the full rack was delivered. I ate two ribs, they were so dried out they were like Jerky. I waited for the full rack to come, it came right away. I went to eat those, same problem. Also, my wife ordered the fish and chips, her fish was under cooked and slightly soggy. I had a full rack and a quarter of a rack left over because I couldn't eat them because they were so bad. When we were done, the waiter asked me if I wanted a box, I told him no. He looked at me because I had over a full rack left. I told him no, because they were so dry they were terrible. I was stupid, I still left a 25% tip. I know it wasn't his fault, but still there was no apology or compensation. I paid $95.00 for nothing basically. Will never go back to Lenoir City Calhouns. It's a shame, I was reading articles on how good Calhoun's ribs are, definitely not that location though. read more

First we were seated on the heated patio and was told it was warmer than inside. It was but it was still too cold. The music they had playing was too loud for the establishment. After waiting for more than 10min our waiter finally greeted us. The food was okay but they were out of a lot of typical side items for early evening. I didn't like sitting in the bar area. I asked the girl at the front for a booth and we wound up at a table in the bar area. Reason! I forget how easily this place is to get to from Farragut and West Knoxville. It takes just about the same amount of time as it does to get downtown. We spent the day in a small town further south and stop to eat a late lunch on our way back. Our service was excellent and so was our food! I have celiac disease, so we always ask 100 questions before I decide if I can safely eat. Our server was extremely knowledgeable and did a great job advising me on my options. There are several in house made dressings, sauces, marinades, and other items. I think I have decided this location is my favorite of all the Calhouns options. Came here with a friend for a late lunch and we were pretty hungry. Grabbed the Fresh Baked Soft Pretzels for an appetizer, and they were really fresh and delicious. Had the Chicken Salad for my entree, and it was good and filled me up perfectly. It was a nice time on the water as we sat on the porch seating. Went here to watch a friend's husband's band play. We were out on the marina part. The place was pretty full and chaotic when we got there. The waitress did a good job despite the large crowd. The bar seemed to be a bit slow even as the crowd thinned so getting drinks seemed to take quite awhile. The food was average. We got some apps the spinach and artichoke dip and the pretzels with cheese sauce and mustard. The dip was okay though the cheese was a glob once we got it but a little stirring made it so we could actually get to the dip. The pretzels were average the cheese sauce and mustard were very good. My fiend and I split a cheeseburger and tots nothing specials there. Overall an average place. The menu on the marina is different than the inside restaurant. They do allow smoking in the deck so be warned if you have an issue. It was hardly noticeable though. Several people had their dogs and they were all well behaved. I would go again for a band but probably either inside or just expect an average meal outside. read more
