If you are looking for a company to service or repair an apartment building door buzzer/communication system you have found the right people. Our forty year old system would not transmit voice from the front door to the tenants stations. I contacted Cali Communications and made an appointment with Calvin to trouble shoot the problem and make a repair if possible. I was afraid that due to the age of the components there might be some problems locating parts. Calvin was able to locate the trouble quickly and after locating an amplifier that would work with the old NuTone system he had it working as good as when it had been installed. Calvin and his associate were prompt, courteous, respectful of property and very knowledgeable. Lastly the cost of repair was very reasonable. If I could give Calvin from Cali Communications 100 stars I would! I have an old front door gate that suddenly stopped buzzing to let people in and the door bell stopped working. I called at least 20 gate people, and no one would come out to fix it, I called an electrician and he could not fix it, he replaced the transformer and everything, then I called a locksmith to replace the striker plate and that did not fix it. I was ready to give up until I stumbled upon Calvin from Cali Communications and his review of a similar situation. I called and he answered the phone and came out the very next morning. Calvin fixed everything in an hour like a master! No stress, he just knew his wiring like a pro! I literally wanted to kiss him I was so thrilled. Cute, nice guy. Over a few different projects, I've had inconsistent experiences with Cali Comm. I've used these guys to install wiring as well as keypad/gate access systems, and despite the inconsistencies, each time the project has ultimately been completed. Calvin is a great guy, very nice and down to earth. It can be difficult to reach Calvin via phone, text or email, but when you do get through he typically can provide a solution. Due to the inconsistencies mentioned above, I probably wouldn't recommend using Cali Comm to any colleagues, though I will likely use their services again. read more

Calvin showed up three weeks ago. He said parts were coming in Friday 7/31. Have not heard back from him. His phone line goes direct to voicemail. He is not answering the phone or responding to text messages. Is he out of town, busy, or does not want to make money The next step he was going to do is install a replacement intercom unit and that would be it. Now I am a little stuck. How much do I owe Calvin for work that he did so far. Because if he can not finish the job I have to hire another person to take over. Any of his old clients have a different number for him. 8/17 had another company come today and they replaced the intercom in one trip. Actually took less than five minutes to remove the old intercom and install the new one. Still never heard from Calvin. Did Calvin actually get the part he ordered on 7/31 because he never called or texted back? Hello Calvin, anyway I can reach you besides the full voice mail that you have had. No text messages from you either. Hope you are ok. If you are ok ,you do need to change the way you do business. I was actually ok with the price between $350 to $500 if you showed up. Calvin and his team are great! Found them on Yelp, called him earlier in the week and explained what I needed. He came out to the home in the East Bay later that day and did a walk through. They were in uniforms and professional. They provided great suggestions on how I should have the system installed. A few days later he sent over a estimate based on 16 hours of work. Being on a budget, I designed a new approach of how I wanted the system installed and expressed this to Calvin. Calvin was open to my request and installed the system in 6 hours without error. The work was high quality and looked like a 50 year vet completed it with a crew of 10. During the installation they were diligent in making sure wires and cameras were in the right places and that any concerns I had were resolved promptly without question. His team worked well with one another and were very respectful of my house. These young men are going places, their attention to detail, understanding of technology and high level customer service are all great attributes to a thriving business that wouldn't hesitate to do business with again.. Allot of these old timers could learn allot from these guys! The pricing was reasonable but competitive. While remodeling a 3 level townhouse across from West of Twin Peaks in San Francisco I needed a company that "knew their stuff" to replace 30 yr old phone lines w/ new voice wiring, install inside cable television lines and Cat. 6 data terminals to several rooms on all three levels and 'home-run' the lines inside the walls back to a new mid- level patch panel in the utility room. Calvin, a tall mild-mannered technician and his asst performed these tasks while never getting in the way of other trades i. e. plumbers, electricans and sheet rockers. Calvin neatly opened walls to run lines in the finished areas of the home. I am so pleased as Calvin did this efficiently and without compromise. I had just had a huge alarm box removed from a closet by an experienced electrician. I thought the job was done, however, the electrician left me without a dial tone. He came back and could not figure out how to restore the dial tone and said he was sorry. I called a person named Kent who did IT work for me awhile ago and due to his own busy schedule he advised sending over his son, Calvin, to try to resolve this problem. It took 1 minute for him to recognize the problem and I had my dial tone back. I was thrilled. Incredibly helpful & efficient. I probably should've known when he didn't show up on the first day and didn't get back to me until a week later and he said he'd been waiting on parts. Then he was 3-4 hours late every single day, and after a week or so, there were a few times he just didn't show up all together, ignoring texts and even my emails started to bounce. After almost four weeks of pulling teeth, barely half the job was done. And what he did complete, was not done well - the intercom is crooked, he lost the special security screws, there are holes in our nice door where he couldn't successfully install the maglock. The maglock experts I brought in after him told me his work was not well done and not even up to code, so basically if anybody is to finish the job, they'll have to undo his work first. The price seems right, but the professionalism and workmanship just isn't worth the headache. read more

We have an older door intercom system that was not working for some time. We had an electrician look at it and a locke company. They did not know what the problem was, and quickly suggested that we upgrade to a modern system. Calvin had done work for us a few years ago for some wiring and cable needs so we called. I'd echo what others have said here - Calvin and team do a great job. Good bunch of honest hard working guys (he and his team). Did a really nice clear install of two cat5 wire/jacks and was good at explaining what's easy / what's challenging and various options in between. None of the challenging stuff phased them - just me! Price was right and the work was good - would definitely use him again. The buzzer broke on the entrance doors of my building so my landlord hired an electrician to fix it. The electrician he hired decided the solution was to rewire the entrance buzzer, which involved cutting the wall open and replastering it - time consuming and costly... When he completed the rewire (for hundreds of dollars) the buzzer still did not work AND the doorbell, intercom and video system stopped working. Understandably, my landlord expected him to correct this costly damage. After 2 months and numerous hours of my life being available for him to have access to my apartment to attempt to fix it he gave up. Yes, he said, "sorry it is just no longer working. It is old and needs to be replaced. We can simply put in a wireless doorbell" Very frustrated that the building might not have an intercom, buzzer or video anymore with this solution I got approval from my landlord for me to call other companies for a different opinions. I called -7- different companies. Yes, 7. They all came by, trouble shot and determined the system is faulty and old, something just doesn't makes sense why it isn't working and the only solution is it needs to be replaced - for $1,500 as the best quote. Calvin from Cali Communications offered to attempt to fix it. Considering the crazy quotes I decided to give it a try. They fixed it in half an hour - 30 minutes!!! AMAZING! With years and years of experience of well known companies looking at it confused he was able to see the problem and fix it in less than an hour. Turns out the seasoned and skilled electrician my landlord originally hired had wired it incorrectly inside ethernet cables (the mini wires were not in the same order and so they weren't connecting properly when you plugged them together). It just took Calvins keen eyesight and his thought to look for that. Absolutely the best $125 I have ever spent! Thank you so much for your skill and prompt service. If anything goes wrong with my building's electric I will be sure to give these guys a call again! The BEST! read more
