Came here late as we drove in town to stay by the airport for a flight the next day. After checking in to the hotel, we almost went to Mexican as there were quite a few. But just few blocks further from our hotel was this place that was still open. We were the only one seated at this time as they had few others takeout. I got the combo pho, and wife got the chargrilled beef over rice. Pho, well, it was just ok. It had the proper amount of meat proportion to soup and noodles. It just wasn't quite there as the flavor was lacking a bit of that pho aroma expected. Now the chargrilled beef was spot on. The beef was tender and had a nice smoked aroma to it, but not too much to overpower the flavor of the beef. What I didn't know was the pho I ordered was about $3 or $3 more than what's listed on menu. I didn't notice it until after I left. For that, I felt cheated. read more

I come to Port Arthur a few times a month for work and always stop here for lunch. It is so good. The staff is very friendly and welcoming. I've had several of the dishes, and they are all very good, but I really love the rare beef pho and shaking beef plate. It is very flavorful, well-priced and the restaurant is clean. The place is really clean including the bathrooms and the staff is very friendly. I almost walked out though because there wasn't anything on the tables. They don't bring your sauces, napkins or anything until after you order. It's a little hot in here too. The pho is pretty good but lacking flavor in the broth. The spring rolls weren't served with lettuce to wrap them with either. Now some fruit flies are landing on my table. I'm not upset enough to never come back but I'll try something else next time. Newly opened and welcomed Vietnamese cuisine kitchen to the area. Daylight hours offer a well lit, open, nice and tidy dining area. Smooth jazz in the background adds a calming effect and perchance what the owner is seeking but will never be as long as the tvs are on and their volume turned up. Beautiful menu reveals about the same basic options as other local Vietnamese restaurants. The owner answered our questions and served up the spring rolls, rice and vermicelli dishes we ordered. Even though we dined at an early dinner/late lunch hour there were a few tables occupied by others as well - a sign that this place is off to a good start. The worst Pho place in the area. Came in for a late lunch Around 3:30 and when we walked in there was trash from the previous parties on EVERY TABLE. There was only 1 open table that we got and it wasn't even a stable table, it rocked back and fourth like crazy. Much better off going to Pho Neches or Pho Ha. I'm from Cali myself, specifically the San Gabriel Valley (626) where that area is mainly Asian, (Vietnamese, Chinese, Japanese, Filipino, Cambodian, Korean) so I have eaten an understand what real authentic is. And this place is pretty much right there. The only thing why I gave it 4 stars was the green tea is a powder. I'm used to fresh brewed Jasmine green tea flowers. The soup was legit. Veggies super fresh. They offer a buy 7 get 1 free on their teas. After speaking with the staff the owner and cooks are actually from California hence the Cali Kitchen name. Oh my. The one star is not just because of the (very sweet) waitress who was on her fifth day working there who did apologize between 10-12 times about our food coming out late. It's not just about the underwhelming spring rolls or the tiny egg rolls (which we had to ask where they were 2 or 3 times). It's not just because we had to ask several times for napkins...then forks...then water. It's also not just because they were out of tapioca for our Thai tea and coconut smoothie orders. It's also not just because the waitress finished the night by swinging by our table asking if my father had paid yet......um. Ex-queeze me? Actually I paid already. Thank you! Truth be told - considering all the above, they could have had a 3-4 star review if the pho would have been just GOOD. It could have been average! They could have spilled the soup on my lap if they still had a winning bowl to bring me after and I would have been fine. Listen, I am a pho-fanatic. I love pho and have had it anywhere I can get it here in Texas (so far). And anyone who has made pho will tell you the broth is the most important part. This broth tasted like... what I imagine the tears of Donald Trump taste like - salty and a little sweet from all the sodas he drinks. The broth tasted like... soap! Hands down, the best Vietnamese restaurant in the Golden Triangle! The service is great - friendly and prompt- and the owner always makes it a point to stop by my table to make sure everything is up to par (which it always is). She frequently offers samples of new dishes to try, which I love because I'll taste anything once. The restaurant is very clean and tables are bussed quickly. The food is almost an Asian fusion; many of the dishes have a Thai element, so it's like Vietnamese but with a spicy kick. My current favorite, which I've eaten on my last 3 visits, is the Spicy Salted Shrimp. It's not on the menu, but it's been on their special board and they always make it for me when I request it. I'll go ahead and warn you that this dish may not be for everyone, as the tail, the shell, and half the head (no eyeballs, don't freak out!) are left on. This locks in the flavor and it's the best tasting fried shrimp I've ever had the pleasure of eating. Ask for a cup of the lemongrass soup to go with it--I usually dip a spoonful of rice to soak it up. I'm even drooling over the thought of it now. The Banh mi are also delicious and served on authentic French bread with the traditional fixings. I was pleasantly surprised when I ordered the grilled pork spring rolls. They use purple mint! I've only had that at my Vietnamese friend's house. No other restaurant around here even offers it. Tl; dr: this place is all-around awesome and you're missing out if you haven't tried it yet. Small menu, great service, and an increase in cultural dining diversity for the Southeast Texas area. My family and I came in so I could expand their local taste buds, though this is nothing like the Pho places and food in Austin, it is a pretty good start for Nederland. We all ordered something different. I decided to get two types of Pho. The #8 Steak for myself and the child portion of Pho meatballs for another. Additionally, I ordered the seared pork Spring Rolls and I really liked the seasoned pork. The rest of the Spring Roll was clean tasting and fresh. Overall good. The Pho was a nice blend of broth, onions, and herbs. I will not compare it to other deep rich Pho's I have had elsewhere; simply because, Pho is like Gumbo. Everyone likes Gumbo, but everyone makes it a little different than the next person. Overall, the staff was great, the place was clean, and it was a nice busy place at lunch. I am pleased that they have a concise menu and are not trying to offer "everything under the sun" I like that they are sticking to simple things they know and working on quality versus quantity. The Pho portion was large and the lemon tea was great. I look forward to coming back here when I am in the area again. read more

When I came in, I was seated and I ordered right away because I already knew what I wanted. Our waitress knew little to nothing about the menu or if they were serving bbh. She told us to give her a moment and never came back. Another girl took our order about 15 minutes later & I told her I wanted bbh. She told me they were not serving it even though I called earlier in advance and was told that they were. I ended up ordering #19 com bo luc lac. I keep coming because the Pho is pretty good but the cleanliness and location are the best in my opinion. Ok, so about this visit. Waited just under 30 minutes for water, chicken curry is good but not at all spicy and more like a 7$ serving rather than 9.95 (too small). Chicken curry came out with a hoagie roll rather than rice. Waiter is too busy and not paying attention with bother getting it fixed. Spring roll were really late. So for this visit and this visit only they get a downgrade. read more

Very good southern Vietnamese with good and fresh selection of pho and rice dishes. I had a bahn mi or a simple and tasty sandwich in a french loaf for just $4.50 any "po boy" can afford to try. The pho my husband had was served with plenty of herbs and sprouts to add. The owner was friendly and helpful. They just opened but she says they hope to expand the menu over time. After an hour passed we still didn't receive the actual drinks we'd ordered and one plate of food came out. The sauces I'd asked for were never brought to the table and those were requested when we'd ordered our drinks. After an 1hr and 20min we decided to eat elsewhere since our drinks still weren't brought to us nor the other plate of food. read more
