The azul azul is absolutely amazing..service is always quick as well! $2 for BYOB is another deal you can't complain about and they will even provide you with a bucket of Ice to keep your drinks cold. This place is awesome! This is my second visit, and I must say, I love it. I hit the Special Cuban and my husband got Tito burrito. Here is a breakdown of my experience: 1. Parking. Parking is really tight. They have made space using an old car wash adjacent to the restaurant. If it's really busy, then you may have to park on the curb. 2. Atmosphere: It has a Spanish flair, more Cuban and/or Caribbean feel. The tables are nicely painted and they have bright vibrant colors throughout the restaurant. They do have TV's around, and they play Spanish Caribbean music. I love it. 3. Food The food like I said earlier is fantastic!!! I haven't tried everything on the menu, but what my husband and I had was great. Drawbacks: 1. It's CASH ONLY! I am a person who doesn't Cary a lot of cash, if at all, but they only take cash here. Beware vegans/vegetarians! I'm vegetarian and I usually get the Cubano veggie or veggie empanadas, which are great, but that's about it. I was tempted to try other options on their veggie menu but I've heard that there's lard in the beans and chicken broth in their rice, even on the items on the veggie menu. I've asked at both locations and they give me mixed responses. It would be great if Cali N Titos either made their rice and beans without animal products or were honest about what's actually vegetarian. read more

My son used to live up the street so we used to eat here quite often. The place is unique in that you wait in line, order from a counter, and they only accept cash. Their other location will take credit cards. You take a number and wait for your food to arrive. It is a nice mix of Cuban, Peruvian and Tex-Mex. I have had many dishes over the years and everything was very good. The empanadas are very good and fried to perfection. I only give 4 stars cause last time I asked for green plantains and they gave me sweet and the thing I ordered which was like a tamale had almost no pork seemed like a half ounce in it which was very disappointing for the size of the tamale and price. But usually the food is good. The sauces are great. The prices are usually very good for what you get I think it was an off day for the cooks when they made them. So I will give them that. Any how the Cuban is very good the melanese Cuban is delicious. The fish tacos are good but I wish it wasn't tilapia. Cool place with a unique menu, but the customer service is lacking. First, the server almost spilled my cebiche all over me and didn't even apologize. Second, the menu said I would be getting sweet potatoes and my dish was served with yuca fries. And cash only is just kind of lazy. Cebiche was really good and spicy (I was asked what heat level I wanted), but I think it needed something with it to soak it up, like rice. As we searched the town for food before Wildewood Revival I remembered the Cuban spot my Athens friends raves about recently. A MUST-SEE in Athens! I take everyone from out of town here because it has THE BEST food. I have yet to find another place like Cali N Tito's. This Cuban/Peruvian restaurant has the funkiest, quirkiest vibe - low, colorful benches, fun decorations everywhere, and almost all of the seating is outdoors (although, it's covered - so don't let a rainy day stop you!). There are also some Asian decorations, which makes this place just that much quirkier. This place is cash-only, although their second location on the East side is larger, indoors, and takes card. Both locations are awesome. For food, I've fallen in love with the fish burrito so that is my current go-to. The flavors within the burrito are perfect - savory from the fish but sweet from the plantains, and the pink sauce that goes with it makes it a perfect combination. I also love their fish tacos with corn tortilla. Their Cuban sandwiches and taquitos are also AMAZING. I don't think you can go wrong with anything on the menu, truly. Service is fast and friendly - you order at the counter, but they are happy to grab you anything from the kitchen, like more sauces, etc. If you're ever visiting Athens, make sure to swing by one of the Cali N Tito's locations - this is a local favorite because it's just THAT good. Cali N Tito's on Lumpkin is my favorite place to eat at in Athens. As mentioned in other reviews, keep in mind that this location is cash only. However, the newer location does accept cards. I prefer the original though out of nostalgia, since I do tend to get faster service here, and the newer location is a bit chaotic at times since it tends to attract more families and kids due to the number of attractions inside. There have been a few changes over the years. Prices have gone up. Gone is the fish taco meal for under $7. Now you have to purchase the items separately so it comes out to about $10. However, the food is still excellent. You can't go wrong with the cuban sandwich or fish tacos. As for sides, the fries are my favorite. The churros with ice cream is a great dessert option. Parking at the Lumpkin location isn't the best. Keep this in mind since the place can get very packed at typical lunch and dinner hours (12-1:30pm and 6:30-8pm). Overall, if you're in Athens and only have time to eat at one place, this is the place to visit. read more

I was at UGA for a conference and I was nervous that I would have to get my car from a parking garage to find a good place to eat. However, this one was the closest on my yelp. I was apprehensive, but we found it and tried it and it was awesome! It didn't feel like we were sitting in Athens. The food was amazing and not expensive at all. Pretty much everything on the lunch menu was less than $10 (Including tax & tip). I got lucky because I play Pokemon Go and I got a 20% discount for showing my game. Cali n Titos has become my go to restaurant while in Athens. I come here whenever I do well on an exam, someone's birthday, or anything else that demands celebration. The hours are flexible for my schedule, I can easily walk here at 10pm on a weekday when I feel hungry. The price tastiness ratio is also fairly even, I can be satisfied pretty easily on a tight budget. To be honest, the exterior and interior are a tiny bit rundown. I would probably describe it as more "rustic", cuz that sounds fancier. The decor is mismatched and fun: Chinese lanterns, Christmas lights, and tiki lounge stuff. The seating is open air, with picnic benches outside and tables inside. I've only gotten the tacos here, so I can't speak for anything else on the menu. All the tacos have fairly the same toppings, a mix of slaw and other veggies that add a little kick and crunch to the meat. You can't go wrong with the chicken, steak, or the pork, personally I go with the chicken or steak, which are both cooked and charred pretty well, while the pork is a little too fatty for me. The meat is kind of under seasoned to my taste, but I tend to enjoy foods with a little more bold flavors. Tacos come of course with this green tomatillo salsa, which is fairly tame and doesn't really add much to the flavor. I'll definitely try more menu items, but as a broke college student the $2 tacos are hard to beat. So here ends my review, price and simplicity of the food are the pros, while rundown-ness, CASH ONLY (its 2016 come on), and under seasoned meat are the cons. Also the wait for the food is hit or miss, during busy hours I get my food pretty quick, while almost closing times (LITERALLY EMPTY) food takes 15 min to come. Go figure. read more

But where Cali-N-Tito's truly shines is through their food. While many of the items on the menu are solid, their Los Fish Tacos deserve a special mention. The tacos are super fresh and tilapia is fried to perfection. Of course, who could forget the amazing chipotle sauce? Not only is it a great complement to the tacos, it's great as a dip for my yuca frita. Afterwards, if you are in mood for something sweet, I absolutely love their banana shakes. The only downside?
