Oxtail Plantain Rice & Peas

Kelly's is by far probably one of my favorite Jamaican spots period. It's authentic and you can tell based off the fact that the owner is always up front serving and meeting customers. Oxtail is only served on Wednesday's & Fridays just as a heads up. For an oxtail plate it was about $22 which based on the amount of food you get is a good deal. I've eaten at other restaurants where they skimp you out for almost twice as much. A regular plate without oxtail ranges from about $14-$20 which once again I think is a pretty good deal. They're open for you to sit inside and eat now which is great. They have ample amount of seating both indoors and outdoors. Would definitely recommend supporting this local business!

I can't express enough how much I love Kelly's! I mean the food is amazing (watch for the spice sometimes it creeps and sometimes it's just flat out spicy!). The service is consistent due to the owner always being up front serving. She is very nice. As I've never sat in the restaurant to eat I am not 100% sure how the atmosphere is but when I come pick up my food it's calm and they play good music. It is pretty hot in there but it's barely noticeable with how focused you are on the food being platted! I don't come to campus everyday but when I do and need a meal Kelly's hits the spot every single time! Price is always about $14 but the sweet bread and sweet tea are extra. Oxtails are only served Wednesday's and Friday's :( those of course cost more I want to say around $16 but I am not sure.

Love this place! The chicken was perfectly spiced with a kick and paired well with the mac and cheese. The collard greens were cooked well and had a bunch of flavor. The cornbread was a little on the dry side but it soaked up the flavor of the chicken juice well. The weather was nice outside so the outdoor seating made the experience all the more enjoyable.

100% best Jamaican in Athens. The food is great and Kelly, the owner is extremely nice as well. He was on the front lines, serving the food and ringing everybody up, which I think is amazing as the owner. He even came and checked on us while we were eating. The restaurant itself isn't too big, but you can sit inside and outside in the little patio area. There are a few parking spots, but it kind of shares a parking lot with Subway. Now the food. The food is delicious. Now I have to say, it is AUTHENTIC JAMACIAN, meaning it is spicy. However the spice doesn't overpower the flavor. I got the jerk pork with rice & peas & cabbage. Honestly the cabbage is my favorite part of the meal. It's a sweet and spicy cabbage that is the perfect mix of sweetness and spice. My husband got the curry chicken, rice and peas, and mac & cheese, which he said was really good as well! If you're in Athens, make sure you stop by here for some great food! Go to the original one on Lumpkin though because the one on Epps Brige is a franchise and nowhere near as good. You have to go see Kelly!

The food was quite frankly not good at all. I ordered jerk chicken, rice and peas and collard greens. First off the Jerk Chicken had 0 jerk seasoning I don't know what that was that was on the chicken. Secondly the rice and peas was spicy very spicy and rice and peas is not supposed to be spicy. The cabbage had only 1 taste and that was vinegar which was awful. The customer service was fine. I needless to say will not be coming back. If you have true Caribbean roots this is not a restaurant you want to come to in Athens,GA I didn't even finish after the first couple bites it was honestly that bad.

Food wasn't horrible. But it wasn't great either. It wasn't seasoned like I thought it would be. My homie said his jerk chicken was good, but his macaroni definitely wasn't. I tried to support a small business. But I see why it wasn't anyone there on "gameday". That should have given me pause. I won't go there again, but much respect to them.

The best food in ATHENS Ga. Best Jamaican food in the Southeast. Spicy flavors that make you so happy you're crying! Greatest owner on Earth.

Went here on a whim while in town to visit a friend and I'm so glad I did. However, I was warned that they often run out of food and not to look forward to being able to order any of their more popular dishes. I was delighted to find that not only did they have everything listed on the menu, there were even a few off menu items! The curry goat, greens, cabbage, cornbread, mac & cheese; everything was just so delightful! So much so, we went back the very next day and ordered even more food, about $80 worth to be exact. It helped that we were there in the off season. Athens is a college town and with all the students away for the summer, I could see why there was such an abundance of food choices. I love that it's a hole in the wall "joint" with rickety floor boards (on the patio), an outdated TV and Caribbean music in the background. It felt like going over to grandma's for Sunday dinner. I'm a southern girl and this spoke to all of my southern sensibilities! My best friend lives in Athens and she already knows that we gotta go back to Kelly's the next time I'm in town!

Service was fine and timely. This was my first visit, tried ordering jerk chicken but they were out…read moreso I ordered jerk ribs instead. My meal totaled about $25 which I thought was fair for a large dinner and a side of Mac and cheese. The portions were hearty which was a plus! The ribs were really good, mildly spicy with a smoked flavor! Came with four full bones. Sauce on the side was good as well, I'd definitely order again. 8.5/10 for ribs I was NOT a fan of the rice and peas, they were different than what I'm used to and seriously lacked flavor, not authentic at all. 5/10 because the texture was at least good. Cabbage was fine, nothing to write home about. It wasn't mushy or anything but slightly overcooked and also lacked flavor. 5/10 The Mac and cheese tasted better than it looked in my opinion lol I was expecting a solid, possibly baked mac and cheese but theirs is extremely soupy and heavily seasoned (garlic taste is strong). I received a great sized for $6.25 so no complaint there. I'd rate the Mac 7/10. I'd order again but I'd probably swap the rice for Mac instead which I believe is only a $2.50 Upcharge I will return to try the jerk chicken! Overall, I liked the food I just didn't LOVE it. I almost loved the ribs but I'd still return.

Good Service. Small inside but clean…read more I only ordered a beef patty with cocoa bread - barely any meat inside & very thin
