This was my second time visiting Caliber Collision (CC). The first time, a few years ago, my car was minding it's own business, parked in front of my home and was hit by an elderly gentleman that was driving and became distracted by his phone (he stated something to that effect). It was superficial and CC did an excellent job repairing my car. It looked new, like nothing had ever happened to it. Fast forward to 2024... a couple of days before Thanksgiving, I'm driving down the road and this guy that is parallel parked decides to pull out into the street (without checking his mirrors or looking over his shoulder) and hits the passenger side of my car! The impact from his car caused damage to my front passenger door all the way back to the rear passenger door and part of the rear panel of my car. Luckily, no one was hurt and he did not try to drive away. Fortunately, the damage was superficial. My insurance adjuster told me that based on my statement of what occurred, along with the photo and video evidence, that I was 100% NOT at fault. The funny thing was that the guy tried to claim that he was not at fault or tried to say we were both at fault (50/50). My adjuster was like, "Um no... based on all of the evidence, you failed to check before entering the driving lane and hit our insured... it is clear you were at fault." His insurance company even called me to tell me they were accepting full liability. Anyhow, I dropped my car off 12/2 and the CC rep Cristian estimated my car would be ready by 12/13. There was a delay with some parts and the date was adjusted to 12/20. The cool thing is they text or call with updates so you know what's going on. My car ended up being ready 12/20, but I couldn't pick it up due to work. Fortunately, they were open Saturday morning from 8:00 - 9:00 am which gave me a chance to pick up my car. Cristian was polite and gave great service. He would call or text to keep me updated and let me know what was going on with my car. I was happy with the work they did. You can't even tell that my car was damaged. They do great work here. My only complaint is that the inside of my car had a paint / chemical smell. It did air out after a few days though. If you are renting a vehicle from Enterprise down the street, they have shuttle to and from. It's very convenient. And once you are done with your rental, you can return it and Enterprise will drop you off at CC. It's a nice service. Overall, I'm a fan of CC. [[HIGHLIGHT]]I just saved $2,200 dollars thanks to the ingenuity, thoughtfulness and honesty of Joshua Smith at Caliber Collision on Dagget Street in Kearney Mesa![[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] Here's the story. I recently backed out of my tight garage space and had a slight scrape on my front bumper thanks to a garage post. I went to Kearny Mesa Auto Body & Collision that shares the property with Kearney Mesa Ford. I was outright shocked at their $2,200 repair estimate for this relatively minor damage. Prior to that I asked a trusted auto repair shop in Pacific Beach for a recommendation. Their referral led to a $600 estimate. Since I was in the neighborhood today I dropped in to get a quote from Caliber Collision. It, too, was over $1,000 since they would have to remove the front bumper...disconnect and reconnect a few things and so on.. So I asked tJoshua Smith, one of their estimators, if they could just clean up the scrapings since I had just bought the 2023 Ford Edge. He said he could try to remove the nicks with a chemical they often use. I said give it a try, if you don't mind. He was happy to do that, unsure if it would work on the scratches. Five minutes later, he brought me out to show me that it worked, If you look closely you can see light pencil-like lines where the paint was gone. No one would notice it. I asked what the charge was. He said no charge. I gave him $40 dollars for his 10 minutes of time and his honesty. he only took the money reluctantly. I can't speak for Caliber Collision and their many shops in the San Diego area, but I can speak for Joshua Smith. A stand-up guy. If I ever need auto body work done in the future, I will track him down. A really good guy and an honest one in an industry often known for estimates that are higher than their ethical standards. The wife's mini-van seems to have bad luck getting hit while parked. The first time, there was damage all the way down the side panel. Cristian worked on it and made it look like new.
