Calicos knocked it out of the park! The soup was home made and amazing - full of flavor, but not salty, and packed with chicken veggies and noodles. The french dip was the same... I have to say - freshest best sandwich roll I have EVER had. Even my husband commented on the bread. The roast beef was sliced jsut thin enought but not shaved to be ground, and the auJus? So savory and satisfying! I would def love to go back and enjoy more of the had made menu options! My daughter (who wasnt feeling well) wanted a grilled ham and cheese and they made it for her even though its not specifically on the menu- cannot say again how much I appreciate this thoughtful accomodation! Ok Kingman! For a small town with no reason to go here except to drive through and stare at brown rocks and tumbleweeds I have to say it's a good little spot to stop and eat. We make the trek from Phoenix to Vegas often for work and this place is a great mix of good service, good food, and good prices. It pulls people from the whole Route 66 rides, to commuters, and more. Salad bar has soup that's always hot and is super clean. The whole place is really clean actually, bathrooms, tables, etc.. I've had burgers, sandwiches, and several other items and have not been disappointed yet. Give it a shot! read more

Quick, good choice if you were blowing through town like I was. Best jalapeño cheese curds in AZ. Solid salad bar and a large selection of entrees. The waitress was a bit brash but it was entertaining. We got a burger, tuna melt and two specials. The special was blackened chicken with fettuccini Alfredo. We stopped here on our way home from the Grand Canyon. I am gluten free so I'm nervous about trying places I'm not familiar with but it was raining and we were tired. We walked in and stood there for a couple minutes before anyone acknowledged us. Never did hear a greeting other than -how many? I asked about gf options and our server was able to suggest items that should be ok, plus they had gf bread and rolls. I ordered the smothered chicken which was amazing and very reasonable. My asparagus disappointingly was over cooked. My husband enjoyed his chicken teriyaki. When choosing his sides, we both heard the server say he could either choose 2 sides or get the salad bar. When we got the bill there was an $8.99 charge for the salad bar. She said she told us but neither one of us heard her. We truly enjoyed Calicos. It is a nice family type restaurant. The menu is varied and the food was hot, yummy and reasonably priced. Over the past several months we have visited Calicos a few times. I ordered the Desert Rubin Sandwich and Patty Melt with fries. My husband ordered the Club and Pepper Jack Cheeseburger with fries. We both enjoyed the Calico Salad Bar which was fresh and delicious. Whoa. Don't be fooled by the decor this place is serving up some great food. Prime rib, blackened with cajun butter, side salad, veggies, horseradish, creamed horseradish and au jus....dinner was good. My aunty had the special, which was a plate of fried chicken, 2 sides and a salad bar...she had food for days. The chicken was super crispy, it looked and smelled heavenly. We picked this restaurant because it came up under "vegan options". I can truthfully say there were zero vegan options. The closest option was a veggie sandwich which actually wasn't vegan because of the non vegan mayo. It was fresh and good though. I think if you're not needing vegan food this is probably a good option. read more

Is this a pass thru steak place? I notice everyone saying this, even the people I visited here say that. At first glance, this place is withered by the weather. My boyfriend and I decided to stop here on the trek from Las Vegas to Phoenix after seeing all the great Yelp reviews. I'm so glad we did! This place definitely has that small town, down home feeling and even sells little Route 66 knick knacks. The service was amazing! They treat you like you're part of the family and are super attentive to anything you need. The food was great too! I highly recommend their soup and salad bar. It has so many options and the soup tasted very fresh and homemade. For an entree we shared the Ruben sandwich which was very good as well. Also you can't beat the prices! Such a great bargain. Service - Maybe it was when we came in, service pretty much consisted of what do you want, here you go, and bye. It wasn't rude by any means, but brisk and to the point. Food - The food was fairly good diner food with a slight twist. Options including alfalfa sprouts and jalapeno bacon that you don't typically see on the typical burgers, salad and sandwich options. The salad and ice cream bars looked well stocked and good. My Patty melt was no too greasy, which happens easily, and the BLT was generous. The kids meal of Mac and cheese was given a thumbs up by the child in our group. Atmosphere - It was easy to tell this was a local favorite spot with regulars. Which is a good sign that the food is consistently good with fair prices. Not being a regular may have played against us as the servers spent more time with their regulars. Not a bad thing, I fully appreciate the desire to maintain good relations with regulars. But don't come here as an outsider expecting the same level of service as regulars. Overall - If you are traveling through the area and want a good filling meal you are in the right place. Expect decent food at a decent price with a slight twist off the regular diner menu. read more

Let me start by saying that our server & another server who sat us, as well as the cashier were incredibly friendly. I checked out this location based on the good reviews. Unfortunately, I think breakfast might be more their specialty, because it wasn't dinner. There were sooo many items to chose from it took us awhile to order. We decided on the club melt & a hamburger. Both were just meh. The burger was too dry, and the club melt just really didn't have any taste too it. The fries were also just meh. Based on our visit I can tell this is definitely a locals place, as everyone was greeted or said farewells by saying their names. So that was pretty cool. I loved the photos and map on the wall of Route 66. I loved the little "gift" shop if you can call it that. They had some kids books I had never heard of. I also loved that they had a little reading book with some humor in it at each table to keep you busy while you wait for your food. But I unfortunately, won't come back to this establishment if & when I visit or pass through Kingman. read more

I really wanted to like this place, but it disappointed on several levels. We had a big day at the Canyon and was our last day and meal while in Kingman. Starting with the service we were seated quickly and our food came out quickly but it seemed our server was being pulled in many directions or was just inattentive. Our drinks were refilled once. I was tired of waiting so found the water pitcher on a shelf not far from our seats and filled our drinks myself. We waited and waited for our check as well. Food: ordered the zucchini sticks which were tasty. Tender zucchini with a nice crispy coating. For $3.95 chose to upgrade to salad bar(one trip allowed) and it had the standard fixings which were fresh . The bummer were our sandwiches. I ordered the Calico Melt. It contained roast beef that was dry and tough, turkey that was okay, and caramelized onions, Swiss cheese, lettuce, tomato on a parmesan crusted sourdough bread. I actually took the roast beef off in order to finish the sandwich. The sweet potato fries were tasty and cooked perfectly. Wife had the Scorpion, turkey, a avocado, jalapeños, grilled onions, jack cheese on a croissant ( could choose a ciabatta roll instead). I tasted and was okay but just didn't have any texture. Maybe if they added bacon?? So I really can't recommend this place as a must go to place. read more
