We brought a friend here who is from another country. He was interested in experiencing an authentic diner like in the movies. We found this diner off of Route 66 in Kingman to be just the spot. Right across the street from the Route 66 museum, you can't miss the diner! The colors are vibrant and fun, looks like what you would think a restaurant on Route 66 would look like. We sat at the bar/counter area, our server was fantastic! Perfect amount of attention. Menus were fun and looked like records. I ordered the hot dog with Mac n cheese, super yummy and huge portions. The root beer float was DELISH! I demolished that in no time, ha! Overall it was a very fun restaurant-loved the 'happy days' vibe. Complete with a jukebox! The outside and the interior is a 60's diner with similar vibes from the jute box to Elvis and Marilyn pictures to the entrance to the small bathrooms. There is a Mr.D's gift shop next door and a Route 66 Kingman sign to take tourist pictures across the street. As for the food , breakfast stops at 11Am. The waiter tells us that the best tasting are the hamburgers, Cobb salad. We ordered a steak , macaroni hotdog and cob salad. I don't recommend any of it. The hotdog is a store hotdog and macaroni is blend. We ordered a medium rare steak but got well done. But the. We should have known better at a diner. Cobb salad was just ok. We also got root beer float which was good and bottomless root bear once you finish the ice cream. Overall it's just a layover place for a hamburger and nothing special. On our way to the Grand Canyon, my family and I decided to eat at Mr. Dz. 9am, and the tour buses outside had the place quite busy. The shape of the building and the decor surrounding the building brought a nice old town vibe to it, and I see why it's a popular tourist spot. We were seated in the back, where all of the service members were kind and responsive. My lack of stars is primarily the food. My brother and I found the Route 66 special to be heavy on the carbs, and low on the proteins, with no aspect of the meal being beyond average. Overall a fine establishment, but I would be interested in choosing a different one on my next drive out to the area. read more

To be clear and fare being a regular customer of this establishment i can honestly say that it's a hit and miss based on the time of day you happen be there ordering will depend on whether let's say breakfast is great, or just horrible due to many things. Such as the freshness of your hash browns. Are they old chunky cold and ugly because they've been sitting around since earlier in morning when they are always nice and tasty. Well don't order breakfast to late or your meats will also be old rubbery tasting. Okay, this is a fact and it's one problem easily remedied by not ordering breakfast late. The other thing is that when you order eggs over medium nine times out of ten they will be overeasy or hard! That's a problem. I have at times gotten my eggs medium but not often. Today they were so watery I left them. If you mention to waitress (not all) that you want your toast double toasted they still come barely toasted. All these issues give great reason to believe that the first line of quality control (the waitress) before taking the plates to the customers are not double checking on behalf of the customer. If they did, a lot of these issues would be handled before accepting the plates in the kitchen. They take it for granted we the paying customer will eat anything regardless. When we do knowing the food isn't up to par as it should, being non confrontational most just give it a pass. Hey thats explains me. But, finally today was enough. Tips are shared between all i think, so why should I tip if all the personal involved in my order dropped the ball. If an item on the menu is listed like breakfast all day, it should be just as fresh as it would be in the early morning when breakfast is mostly served. That's how it's supposed to be!!! I do hope the management does something about this soon because I am running out of patience, and soon I will never return!! Fun stop to make! Kingman was halfway to our destination and we planned to stop here for lunch since we had an activity planned right when we got to our destination city. It was cute! We got there around noon on a Thursday and were greeted right when we walked in the door and we sat right away. We chose the diner bar, but there were tables in front and back, it was just quicker at the bar. Our service was very friendly, and it felt pretty quick. Since we were at a 50s-style diner I knew I had to get a milkshake. They have a pretty extensive list of flavors! I am basic and went with the classic strawberry milkshake. For my food, I got the club sandwich. I thought everything was great! My shake was super tasty, and the extra comes in the silver canister they blend it in, which of course is great because bang for your buck. The sandwich definitely filled me up and the bacon on it was nice and crispy, perfection! And the friiiiieeesss! Bomb! I loved every bit of our experience here and I'm glad we fit it in. I'm sure on the weekends it gets a bit busier here being a midway point between a lot of places. The parking lot isn't big, so I'm sure that could be a bit of a concern on those busy days. We stopped in for an early dinner around 4:00 pm and had an excellent experience from start to finish. We were seated and able to order within about 15 minutes, and our food came out fresh and hot within the next 10--super impressive service. Everything we ordered was delicious. Ordered two diablo burgers with onion rings for to go. They texted me when the food was ready. I walked in and looked right at my food that was ready on the counter. Long story short it took them over 20 mins to put it in a bag and hand it to me without the sauce that was suppose to come with it. They didnt seem busy. Cost me 44 dollars. I live a few blocks away. It was ice cold and mushy by the time I got home. Girlfriend wouldn't even touch hers cause it was all slimy and gross. My dog enjoyed the patty. Never coming back again. We were seated right away and our server was very prompt and helpful. I had the BLTTA (Bacon Lettuce Tomato Turkey Avocado) with the upsell onion rings. My sandwich was very good and the onion rings were sweet onions and very crunchy, loved them! My wife had the club sandwich with fries and our friends both had Rubin's with fries. All of the sandwiches were very good and the fries were crisp and nicely salted. Note bathrooms were very small single men's and single women's so it was somewhat backed up. That meal was huge! We had a half rack of wet ribs and four big coconut shrimp with a pineapple sauce. This included three sides plus a salad. My wife thought these were the best coconut shrimp she had ever eaten. Ribs were tender and the sauce was KC style (sweet with a little spice kick). Overall a mixed bag experience. When my brother and I visited they appeared to be a bit disoriented in terms of keeping up with cleanliness and preparedness for a visiting guest. Several tables were full of garbage and needed to be cleared. Our waitress was reasonably attentive but was clearly a bit frazzled with what she was trying to keep up with. The food is serviceable but certainly nothing spectacular. I enjoyed my patty melt, but noted that the onions were a little undercooked. No doubt a byproduct of how quickly it was prepared. I was encouraged to find out that they had homemade root beer, but was later disappointed to learn that it is prepared with high fructose corn syrup. This is not their fault of course, but I figure homemade usually means it should be made with sugar? Which tells me they didn't get pulled out of a basket within 30 minutes and sat under a broken heat lamp. No, not sending it back because you get one shot and you missed the mark ; a chance at a delicious burger and onion rings. Fail. Watered down ranch, watered down bbq sauce. Service was average with no engagement from staff. it's a burn and churn operation from start to finish. Get in get out. Flip those tables! Ambiance: Overall dirty, greasy spoon, with filthy bathrooms overflowing trash cans in the bathrooms. Your luck might be better at a gasoline station bathroom up the street. The art on the wall is cheese. Mostly faded photos of the family that ran this business for 9 years before "Armando" took it over. Cartoonist murals of Elvis that make him look like a buck-toothed chipmunk. Marlyn Monroe trying to look sexy in her mural and just looking like she smoked some Acapulco Gold, all squinty eyed and shizz. We were really excited to try this place out, but ended up disappointed. I asked our server her favorites, and I went with one of them: huevos rancheros. I didn't really care for it. Especially the hash browns, which I typically like at other places, were very bland (in all of our dishes). My kids shared the breakfast burrito, and THAT was actually good!
