Came for dinner, already planning our encore! My son and I loved Mr. D's, and our wonderful waitress, Chelsea, deserves five stars all her own. My BLTTA--bacon, lettuce, tomato, turkey, and avocado on a fresh croissant--was delicious, and the fries were just right: crispy outside, fluffy inside. My son declared his AM burger with bacon, hash browns, and eggs (scrambled by request!) one of the best burgers he's ever eaten. Even the Caesar salad stood out for its super-fresh lettuce and delicious dressing. The shake selection is fantastic! Loved my banana shake, served old-school with the extra mixing cup on the side. Their own root beer made an excellent float, too--and we take our root beer seriously! The adorable 45-record menus sealed the retro charm. What a cool place. They definitely embrace Route 66. We came in for dinner, and absolutely loved the place. It has a large diner style menu of breakfast, lunch and dinner but the inside has the theme more of a malt shop, than a diner. Really cool. Lots and lots of neat stuff, both in and outside of the restaurant. We both had the blue moon, burger, with blue cheese and mushrooms, and a cherry Coke. Not the kind of cherry Coke you would get in the store, a Coke with real cherry syrup like you used to be able to get. It was very good. The burger was juicy, the blue cheese had a nice "funk" to it, and the mushrooms played off of it very well. The veggies were also very fresh. The fries were your standard diner, fries, nothing fancy, but also very good. The prices were reasonable for what we got. This legendary restaurant along Route 66 has a 70-year history. The decor was retro and Instagrammable, and the food was pretty good. Andy Devine: Recommended by the waitress. The burger was huge. The patty was tender and juicy, but the onion rings and overly sweet barbecue sauce made it a bit too rich. I remember having a similar burger at Mr. Bartley's in Harvard Square, and I was also quite disappointed. This one was much better though, at least the patty was good. Philly Cheese Steak: My friend ordered this, and it wasn't as good as the Philadelphia original version. The beef was a bit tough, and there wasn't enough cheese. French Fries: Freshly fried fries. In the US, you can almost always get piping hot fries, so this was especially reassuring. Vanilla Oreo Shakes: The milkshakes are one of the restaurant's signature products, and I was very satisfied! Overall, it's smooth and creamy, sweet but not cloying, with a rich Oreo and vanilla flavor. But seriously, could you please use a bigger cup? Why use a separate cup to make it seem like a large portion? Caramel Sundae: My friend ordered this. It's made in a classic banana split style, with a rich caramel flavor. Right across the street from the Route 66 museum, you can't miss the diner! The colors are vibrant and fun, looks like what you would think a restaurant on Route 66 would look like. We sat at the bar/counter area, our server was fantastic! Perfect amount of attention. Menus were fun and looked like records. I ordered the hot dog with Mac n cheese, super yummy and huge portions. The root beer float was DELISH! I demolished that in no time, ha! Overall it was a very fun restaurant-loved the 'happy days' vibe. Complete with a jukebox! As I was strolling along the historic Route 66, I couldn't help but notice this great looking restaurant! Immediately upon entering I noticed the restaurant's vintage looking interior. There were lots of people and most of them were tourists (italian and french). The waiters were very nice and polite, even when they had so many things to do because there were so many people. The food was average, the burger was really not to my taste, the patty was really thick and it suffered from a lack of sauce. Otherwise I would say the food was really nice, but very greasy! On our way to the Grand Canyon, my family and I decided to eat at Mr. Dz. 9am, and the tour buses outside had the place quite busy. The shape of the building and the decor surrounding the building brought a nice old town vibe to it, and I see why it's a popular tourist spot. We were seated in the back, where all of the service members were kind and responsive. My lack of stars is primarily the food. My brother and I found the Route 66 special to be heavy on the carbs, and low on the proteins, with no aspect of the meal being beyond average. Fun stop to make! Kingman was halfway to our destination and we planned to stop here for lunch since we had an activity planned right when we got to our destination city. It was cute! We chose the diner bar, but there were tables in front and back, it was just quicker at the bar. Our service was very friendly, and it felt pretty quick. Since we were at a 50s-style diner I knew I had to get a milkshake. They have a pretty extensive list of flavors! I am basic and went with the classic strawberry milkshake. For my food, I got the club sandwich. I thought everything was great! My shake was super tasty, and the extra comes in the silver canister they blend it in, which of course is great because bang for your buck. The sandwich definitely filled me up and the bacon on it was nice and crispy, perfection! And the friiiiieeesss! Bomb! I loved every bit of our experience here and I'm glad we fit it in. I'm sure on the weekends it gets a bit busier here being a midway point between a lot of places. The parking lot isn't big, so I'm sure that could be a bit of a concern on those busy days. We waited over 25 minutes without being acknowledged, not a single drink order, no food, nothing, despite three to four servers making eye contact with us. During that time, four other tables were seated, had their drink orders taken, and were served. This was extremely disappointing, especially since we were simply trying to get a meal for myself, my husband, and our daughter while traveling through Kingman. We were seated right away and our server was very prompt and helpful. I had the BLTTA (Bacon Lettuce Tomato Turkey Avocado) with the upsell onion rings. My sandwich was very good and the onion rings were sweet onions and very crunchy, loved them! My wife had the club sandwich with fries and our friends both had Rubin's with fries. All of the sandwiches were very good and the fries were crisp and nicely salted. Note bathrooms were very small single men's and single women's so it was somewhat backed up. That meal was huge! We had a half rack of wet ribs and four big coconut shrimp with a pineapple sauce. This included three sides plus a salad. My wife thought these were the best coconut shrimp she had ever eaten. Ribs were tender and the sauce was KC style (sweet with a little spice kick). There is a Mr.D's gift shop next door and a Route 66 Kingman sign to take tourist pictures across the street. As for the food , breakfast stops at 11Am. The waiter tells us that the best tasting are the hamburgers, Cobb salad. We ordered a steak , macaroni hotdog and cob salad. I don't recommend any of it. The hotdog is a store hotdog and macaroni is blend. We ordered a medium rare steak but got well done. But the. We should have known better at a diner. Cobb salad was just ok. We also got root beer float which was good and bottomless root bear once you finish the ice cream. Overall it's just a layover place for a hamburger and nothing special. Overall a mixed bag experience. When my brother and I visited they appeared to be a bit disoriented in terms of keeping up with cleanliness and preparedness for a visiting guest. Several tables were full of garbage and needed to be cleared. Our waitress was reasonably attentive but was clearly a bit frazzled with what she was trying to keep up with. The food is serviceable but certainly nothing spectacular. I enjoyed my patty melt, but noted that the onions were a little undercooked. No doubt a byproduct of how quickly it was prepared. I was encouraged to find out that they had homemade root beer, but was later disappointed to learn that it is prepared with high fructose corn syrup. This is not their fault of course, but I figure homemade usually means it should be made with sugar?
