My husband had the 8 oz. rib-eye special which came with soup & salad bar and another side all for $19.99. The salad bar had nice Crisp and cold lettuce and many fixin's and there was 2 soups to chose from; both were very good. His ribeye had a big piece of fat, but easy enough to cut away. A very pleasant restaurant with plenty of options for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. Daily soup and salad buffet, weekend brunch buffet with breakfast buffet and/or salad buffet. The buffets are kept clean and regularly stocked. The prime rib dinner is very good and there is usually a daily special. Thursdays offer a prime rib special. The soups are house-made and quite good. Service is very friendly and they are kept pretty busy. Relax and enjoy the food. You will not be rushed out. Save some room for a piece of house-made pie. My friend and I stopped here while passing through the area. We were looking for some good coffee and breakfast, and let me tell you, we were so lucky to find that and so much more! At Calico, we were welcomed with warm smiles and kind greetings as if we were coming home for Christmas. The kind lady who sat us at our table made us feel so welcomed! Then, the interior hosted large, beautiful pictures of local national parks, canyons and rivers. The pictures were well done, labeled and inspired a sense of beauty and adventure. Then, the food. Let me talk about the food. I ordered and Omelet with pork and Chile Verde sauce and let me tell you, I have never had any omelet like that before. It was amazing. We stopped for lunch after a long drive. The decor was cheery and bright with a Route 66 diner vibe. They appeared to be busy but they still were able to take care of our order in a reasonable amount of time. The prices are outrageous. It seems like everything is near $20. I went to the breakfast buffet and they had some kind of omelette that was not very tasty. They had tons of sugary dessert, which was a waste. They organize the breakfast buffet in such a way that you cannot reach certain things. I'm not gonna go back. It's not that the food is bad but they're gonna price themselves out of business. It took a while to get the water glass even filled, and then the waitress wants to bring my receipt up as an excuse to get a tip when she did almost nothing. If they're going to cost for almost every meal near $20 it's gonna be where serving staff gets almost no tip. I gave a one dollar tip because I finally got my water glass filled. You pay a tip for service but on a breakfast buffet what kind of service are you getting? Like I said, I will not go back when every meal costs almost $20. It's ridiculous. This is a great place for breakfast, dinner, lunch. The servers are all very pleasant and the food is the best around, other than specialty restaurants in the area. I have heard the prime rib is the best in town, and while I have not tried it everywhere, it is the best I've had in a very long time! When I have out of town visitors I make sure we go to Calicos and we have never had a bad experience. They also have a "souvenir shop" for lack of a better word, with Route 66 memorabilia, books, etc., and it pleasantly surprises me that nearly everyone is so interested in Route 66! read more

Had dinner here the other night. We eat a little early so it's not usually real busy at the places we choose. Had the French dip with potato salad and the salmon with salad and asparagus. As usual my wife loved her sandwich and potato salad and even brought some of it home. My salad was cold and crisp, and the salmon was great as always, but I was not quite as happy with the asparagus. They looked nice and tasted ok but were overcooked, other than that everything was great as usual. Lauren was our waitress and did a wonderful and attentive job. Her friendly attitude really makes for an enjoyable visit. Almost forgot to mention I usually don't leave without a slice of strawberry rhubarb pie to go. It is quite tasty. read more

Well, we went this morning to try the breakfast buffet and didn't end up getting it. At 17.00$ it just didn't look worth it. And I know before you tell me that everything has gone up in cost since the virus and this flipping recession Joe has landed the nation in. With that in mind, I think we are all being a little careful on how and where we spend our money. I'm not willing to spend that much on sugary sweets and cafeteria quality buffets . I will say that I had the eggs Benedict and they were excellent. My partner had a omelette and it was delicious he said. The hash browns had little taste other than the oil they were cooked in. This place is a true travelers gem. I've been here twice now. Atmosphere is nice. Tables aren't too close together. Attention to cleanliness is evident. They do seem to understaff which makes service times a bit longer. Slower but very friendly. We visited on Sept 1st and weren't in any hurry. We were all very pleased with the meals we got. I had the prime rib which was juicy and flavorful. I asked for medium and it was closer to medium rare. But I like medium rare. All good. Potato baked perfectly. Salad was fresh and tasty. Gluten-free bread options would be nice. Whether you're passing through town, staying longer, or live here, this is a place to put on your list. read more

For a local and well established business, I truly find this restaurant to always be not only a pleasant experience, but a great place to meet friends and clients for breakfast, lunch or dinner. My favorite is the Fish and Chips along with Thursdays when the special is Prime Rib and the salad bar is included. The service has always been top notch. read more

Covid Road Trip, heading home tomorrow. This restaurant was directly across the street from our hotel (see Arizona Inn). and resides in the parking lot of the Motel 6. protesters are gathering up the street at the train in the park, curfew set for 8. We decided an early dinner was a good plan. Our food server seated us immediately and we ordered our beverages, spirits & alcoholic drinks are available. I went for the "special" fried bread taco, Ive not had their version of fried bread so I gave it a go. I also went for the salad bar an extra $4. C ordered the french dip, which was served with a large bowl of au jus. She enjoyed her sandwich very much. I was impressed with the salad bar, all very fresh and quite a lot of choices to pile on the lettuce. The fried bread taco was a disappointment. Too much bread, the ingredients were fresh. Shredded lettuce, diced tomato, shredded mixed cheese. Taco meat was minimal and flavorless, no refried beans or rice to supplement and certainly no guacamole to speak of just a tad of sour cream. I ordered a slice of housemade carrot cake and a cup of milk to go, which was very good. Our server Kim was excellent and very competent. Black Bear diner was Covid closed, so we returned for here breakfast. I was not disappointed, my ultimate Omelet was cooked perfect, hash browns as you would expect, sd. toast and fresh fruit that had more than cantaloupe and grapes. My side of bacon was not under cooked and not brittle crispy The coffee flowed constantly and was good too. C had her usual eggs sunny side up and done syrupy waffles to dip in to the yolk? Nope she cut it all up together and started to eat, it was ugly. Judy was a wonderful server, certainly a competent and confident member of the staff. My parents were here last Friday with some friends and said the food was great so they wanted to take me and my family when we came to visit. Unfortunately, the Monday night we ate there had a different cook in the kitchen and the food was not as good. My dad had the pprl chops the time before and said they were great, so my son and I split the full order and both of us were disappointed - my dad tried a bite of mine and said it wasn't as good as the Friday before and the open face beef sandwich he got wasn't good as well as the instant potatoes on his plate. My mom said her club sandwich wasn't even as good, which really surprised me considering the basic ingredients used to make it. The teriyaki chicken my wife ordered was by far the best dinner at our table. This restaurant is getting a low rating because the quality of the food is inconsistent - the wait staff was actually very helpful and attentive and the eating area and restrooms were very clean. read more

With smiles and questions about their lives . They didn't just care about getting out there food. They cared about taking care of their customers.
