The new California Burrito on 6th ave is a fantastic addition! The breakfast burritos are really good! I tried the chorizo burrito and it was delicious! My husband tried the fish tacos, and he loved them! Service was fantastic and welcoming. This is a fast, tasty Mexican food joint that is open 24 hours- where can you go wrong with this combination! Happy to have them in Tacoma!

The Bean Tostada from California Burrito!

I probably would have ignored the opening of California Burrito in this neighborhood as I don't come over here much anymore but curiosity won me over and I made a special trip to try it. What got my curiosity was because there is another location very close to my house that will eventually open and an acquaintance of Steve's praised it as she is originally from California where this chain is based. I have to say I was more impressed with my meal here than I thought I would be. I got a bean tostada which I enjoyed and some beef tacos. The beef tacos weren't bad but kind if had a smoky taste that I wasn't sure if I liked but I liked the meal well enough. I convinced Steve to come with me for a second meal and once again I got a bean tostada but I got a potato taco when it came to deciding what taco I wanted and I liked that better. Of course living up to it's namesake this restaurant is all about burritos and there is quite a variety off them. I saw a Chile Relleno Burrito that really caught my eye and probably will someday get it. I don't get burritos as often as I once did but I realize in order to delve into this burrito I would need to be pretty hungry as the size of it seems large. There is a nice condiment bar here also so you can lime slices, pickled carrot, radishes, cucumber , a spicy slaw and various kinds of salsas and sauces. My two visits here were positive and the drive up is open 24 hours which would be very convenient for us since on occasion we are out a bit later and most other restaurants just closed, leaving little options to go on for grabbing something to eat.

Food was overcooked, they messed up my order. 3 fish tacos and 4 carne asada tacos. What a JOKE. Don't waste your money here. Ambiance is hot and sweaty. No air, salsa bar should be inspected by the health department. Calling this one in before someone gets sick.

We stopped in Fri nite about 9 pm. The drive up was busy so we went in. I tried a 6 inch Taco with carnitas. The 3.95 price tag was perfect. Lots of meat. Wowee nice crispy meat but moist at the same time. Hubby tried the 2 enchiladas and they were good too. They have a little salsa bar with the reg stuff. Pickeled vegis, cuke slices, several salsas. We will be back.

I came by the night after their grand opening -- around 10-11 PM -- hoping for a legit California-style taco shop experience, especially with "California" in the name. I ordered takeout, and here's how it went: Carnitas Taco: Served in a small hard-shell takeout container with two corn tortillas, a scoop of pico de gallo, and a bit of guacamole. The carnitas were dry, rigid, and cold -- like they'd been microwaved. The texture and flavor were both off. I expected juicy, well-seasoned carnitas that paired smoothly with the guac and pico. Churro: Made fresh, but filled with a custard-like cream that just didn't work. I was hoping for a warm, crispy churro like the ones you find in SoCal -- this wasn't it. Pollo Asado Fries: The fries were overly browned and tasted overcooked, with little to no flavor. The chicken was salty, unevenly chopped, and didn't resemble pollo asado. Guacamole was maybe a tablespoon, sour cream about the same, and cheese was minimal. The tray was only about 2/3 full and mostly filled with overdone fries. Overall, the dish lacked seasoning, balance, and presentation. Pollo Asado Burrito: The tortilla had a strange, flaky texture. The chicken was again overly salty and lacked seasoning. The pico de gallo overwhelmed the burrito, and guacamole was barely noticeable. It felt underfilled and too soft -- missing that hearty, satisfying feel you expect from a solid burrito. I'd rate it maybe a 6/10. Overall: This visit was probably a 4-5/10 experience. Hopefully it was just early-opening jitters, but I really hope they improve the seasoning, freshness, and portion quality. Carnitas should be moist and flavorful, fries should be crispy but not burnt, and the overall experience should reflect the California-style name. Prices were fair (everything under $14), but the execution fell short. I might give it another shot down the line, but for now, I'll be sticking to other spots while I keep searching for those homey California vibes for food and presentation. I will say the one thing they were consistent on was the service and remembering to make and give me the churro as it was not in the bag before they handed it to me.

My torta was good for gringo taste buds.

Finally got a chance to check it out this past week. It is VERY Americanized but that's not necessarily a bad thing. The torta I had was very filling and very easy to eat spice wise. The meat was a little more wet that I liked but I had let it sit for a bit while I did a bit of shopping at Grocery Outlet across from them. I do like a bit more zip in my food but it was very edible otherwise. My wife liked it more than other places because the spices are alá cart and you put your own on. I like mine cooked in but we both agreed the meat was soft enough for someone without teeth (like me) to gobble it down without issues. The Toothless Taster strikes gold again!

    Machaca Breakfast Burrito

California Burrito recently opened up and it's okay for a late night evening snack. My family and I are die hard breakfast burrito...specifically on Saturdays. We usually go to El Sabor, a few block away on Mildred street. The comparison- el sabor makes their own tortilla. When I asked the Cal Burrito worker, they had no idea where they even came from. el Sabor offers breakfast chicken burritos. Cal Burrito does not offer a chicken option. The fresh tortillas at El Sabor make a difference in their burritos! I'll think I may stay an El Sabor loyal.

Chorizo Breakfast Burrito is the best! Chios with beans and cheese! Chicken taquitos with cheese. Fresh salsa bar. Delicious and fast.

It's cheap and fast and 24h. I had the carnitas burrito. It was meh, meat tasted boiled. Memo's is better than this.

We had adobada, asada and chicken tacos, added a side of fried onion and serrano pepper. The adobada meat was ok, chicken was good and our favorite was the asada. I didn't like the default salsa they put on the tacos, would've preferred just onion and cilantro. In fact I didn't like any of the salsas they offered, the green salsa was the only decent one and I'm sure the orange looking salsa was on its way out, it tasted and smelled funky. Customer service was great. We might come back just for asada tacos but maybe not.

Love the dark aesthetic and chill vibes. Everyone was friendly and food was excellent. My favorite dishes are the rib eye tacos and birria beef tacos. Rib eye steak was tender and had a hint of that char grill flavor. The birria tacos and consomé was also really flavorful. We enjoyed the tequila flaming fajita and the mini flame show as well lol. The chicken and shrimps were good but similar to my experience at the South Center location, the beef was really chewy (like over cooked). I also think they served way more veggies compared to meat proportions for their fajitas. My Dad got the burrito especial with grilled chicken and it was huge! He thought it was alright and got sick of it pretty quick because of how much rice and beans there were. We also ordered the margarita flights which were served in these cute mini glasses. I thought the pineapple coconut had the strongest alcohol taste whereas the passion fruit-guava and pina azul tasted like juice (I'm not a big drinker so I thought it was perfect). The pina azul tasted similar to a flat Baja Blast from Taco Bell with a hint of alcohol. Overall, we enjoyed our experience here. The only negative thing is we made a reservation at 8:00PM and came early at 7:30PM; at check in, they said at first we could get in sooner since we arrived but then quickly was told to actually wait until our reservation time (and that's totally fine and makes sense since we reserved for 8PM!!). I was just confused because the group that were walk-ins waiting got to go in before us. There wasn't anyone else waiting for a table and by the time they sat us, turns out there was plenty of open tables available... I just thought they'd want people to be seated sooner if they've arrived and had tables available since it was already 8PM and they close at 9PM lol.

We were in the area and were feeling hungry so we decided to stop by. The parking was pretty packed but had a spot or two so we were able to secure a spot. Once we entered, there was a sign that you could clearly see that said wait to be seated and it wasn't long until someone came by. We were greeted by a female hostess who smiled and professionally lead us to a booth to sit at for dinner. The menu was pretty extensive but not overwhelming as they had their alcohol drinks separate from their menu. A male server stopped by with some chips and salsa which I think is now fighting for best house made salsa that I've had in Washington. We ordered the combination dinner, I got mine with the tamale and tostada with chicken while my boyfriend got the chimichanga. We got another refill of chips which were not too salty and the perfect size to get a good chunk of salsa. We eventually had two waiters who was a young gentleman and an older gentleman but they were both so courteous and friendly. This was also probably the fastest we've gotten our food at a Mexican restaurant as it arrived maybe 8-10 minutes after we placed our order. The plates arrived nice and hot with the food portions being huge and the presentation was lovely! I wasn't a huge fan of the chicken as it felt more on the dry side for me but I also just don't like white meat and my boyfriend said it wasn't dry at all. I did love the amount of toppings on the tostada as it was stacked high with fresh ingredients on a bed of refried beans which was seasoned perfectly. The tamale was also absolutely delicious and I have had many tamales and I can say this tamale is immaculate. My boyfriend's chimichanga was delicious too from the bite I had and how he cleaned his plate. I can vouch that this place is authentic (dated a Mexican guy and their family spoiled me with amazing food and parties) and my boyfriend agrees that this spot is the perfect place for amazing Mexican food for those who are wanting to try or are hesitant. The staff here are super friendly and professional, they will even pack up your food! It just felt like going to a friend's to enjoy amazing vibes, fantastic food, and a overall good time.
