Agonizing over Sunday dinner and paralyzed by indecision while scrolling through Yelp and Google Maps, I stumbled upon Taqueria La Doña. The small storefront, spartan bar counter seating, simple menu, and photos of tacos that looked like they came straight out of East LA sold me instantly. At the counter, I ordered four tacos ($4 each): head, tongue, stomach, and crispy pork. I paid there and was told it would take about 10 minutes. Moments later, the kitchen erupted with loud chopping noises - clearly, those 10 minutes were being used to freshly prep my order. The tacos arrived double-shelled and topped with meat, diced onions, and cilantro. On the side were lime wedges and slices of small radish. The shells were thin yet fluffy, soft, and warm. Each taco was portioned just right - enough meat to fill them generously without spilling everywhere (okay, maybe one rogue piece of onion), but otherwise packed to the brim. The head and tongue were extra juicy and tender, the stomach had a pleasantly springy texture, and the crispy pork lived up to its name - extremely crispy. All the meats were simply seasoned with a bit of salt, letting the textures and freshness shine. Extra sauces are available at the table. Not many places around here come close to what you'd find in DTLA or San Diego. But Taqueria La Doña serves tacos that wouldn't feel out of place being handed out of a truck on Olympic or University Ave. Sure, it's cheaper back home, but I'm happy to pay $4 per taco when I'm not flying to LA for the holidays. read more

I first saw the restaurant while driving by one day and so added it to my list to check out. Today I had the chance to stop in for lunch. I stuck to the beef tacos and ordered: 1 birria, 2 cabeza and 1 lengua. Everything came out with cilantro and onions (you can customize your toppings if this isn't your style). I also got the Jamaica agua Fresca. Everything here from the service to the food is excellent. The seating is bar style and so it feels a bit communal which is always nice. Some of the best tacos I've had outside of the west coast. We tried the asada, carnitas, birria, lengua, and pollo tacos. We also got the tamales and chicken/cheese quesadilla. Finish it off with vanilla or strawberry churros. No tables to sit at, just counter seating. The ladies working in the kitchen and behind the counter were so sweet and gave us samples to try of their freshly made juice before we purchased one. I just visited for the first time today with my partner. It was his second time dining here. We live well north of Nashua, but pass through a few times a year. I'm originally from LA. My partner and I both miss the stellar taquerias available out West. If you're seeking authentic Mexican cuisine, served in a bright and airy atmosphere, by the warmest people - come on over! We ordered to-go. Two burritos for my partner (one for lunch and one for tomorrow) and two tacos with carnitas for me. Loved the food!!! Their tortillas were divine... so soft and springy. Their to-go packaging was very thoughtful (no styrofoam or big plastic clamshells for our small orders, which we liked.) The tacos also came with sliced radishes, cucumbers, and two large lime slices (in their own foil home) and a delicious green salsa. I am very sensitive to gluten, including cross-contamination - so I seldom eat restaurant food. Their tacos with carnitas and sides did not give me any trouble at all. The carnitas were subtly seasoned. To my taste, the carnitas and green salsa were both mild. My partner found the green salsa hot. We will be sure to stop by Taqueria La Doña when we are in or near Nashua on future trips. I need to try the rest or their menu and will aim to get photos next time. Their indoor seating is very comfortable, nice bar stools at a little bar that wraps around both front walls. I went on a very crowded day. The help was super nice, but my takeout order only had one sauce for three people and one or two lime slices for their nice tacos. My tip -----extra be generous with the limes and the radishes and label each taco as they all kinda look the same, and my husband had ordered lengua --just a simple letter on them as to what they are can help ----sometimes Carnitas and beef and stuff with sauce on it all looks the same. BTW, the rice, the beans and the green sauce are truly delicious. I hope next time I go they asked me if I'd like a little more sauce or at least a couple for each person.
