For a quick weekday lunch I decided to try out La Carreta (convenient when driving Southbound on DW Highway on the way to shopping in South Nashua). At 2pm the restaurant seemed lively even at less than half capacity. I got seated, placed an order, and received my food within 5 minutes. The complimentary chips and salsa seemed decent. Light, not too oily or salty, but held up to the salsa. The salsa itself had a hint of herbal. A bit sweet for my taste but that's a personal nitpick. My order was the lunch special version of the Pollo Sinaloa ($14.99) - half a chicken breast marinated and grilled with zucchini, mushrooms, onion, and peppers served with rice, beans, and 2 flour tortillas. The chicken was in the form of a thin cutlet and a bit small. However, the overall portion proved quite filling. Rice, beans, and grilled vegetables all tasted like, well, rice beans and grilled vegetables. WYSIWYG Service was cordial and pleasant. My server had some extra energy and pep that seemed genuine. I give this spot 2 stars. Some of dishes were fine (beef tacos) while the enchiladas looked and tasted like cafeteria food. It was bland, the whole plate was lukewarm and brown. Nothing fresh on the plate, generally unappetizing. Ambiance is festive and staff were mildly attentive. I get the sense people come for margaritas and Happy Hour more than the food. Overall it was just 'fine' and nothing to write home about. I've had MUCH better Mexican, this is on the bottom of my list. read more

So much that I was thrilled to find their restaurant was so close to where we lived, and that the food there was authentic and so very good. The menu has many choices and the prices are very reasonable. My entire family loves nights out at La Carreta. Will go again and again! The service and food were horrible. I have visited this restaurant few times last year but the food got worst every time that I had being there. I can't believe the service of the waiter Gajel, he never approach my table to ask about if everything were fine with my dish and came with bad attitude to handled the bills and unfriendly attitude. This was the worst food I have ever had. For the first time in my life I returned the food and told them I would not be paying for this. Started the night off with a margarita and nachos and should have know then to stop at that. Took one bite of our main dinners and we both we so gross out! Been coming to this restaurant for years. Great food, great drinks, great service. Our last two visits here, the quality of the dinners were terrible and the margaritas were served in a warm glass. The shredded beef taco we ordered tonight was made with ground beef; the wrong dinner plate was delivered to the table (we ordered dinner combo #1); the special dinner dish we ordered was supposed to have some mixed greens topped with tomato and queso fresco cheese but was actually served with a cabbage mix with no tomato and the shrimp was served with grilled onions which are not listed in the menu description; the special dinner item La Carreta had a watery cheese sauce. Our server was very friendly and attentive. They have a very large, overwhelming menu, which was a bit difficult to follow. We started out our meal with complimentary chips and salsa. The salsa was pretty good. After that, our meals just seemed to go downhill. The food was not tasty and almost seemed like we were eating mystery meat. My boyfriend ordered "La Favorita" which included one special burrito with beef tips, one mixed tostada, and one chicken enchilada. It sounds like a lot of food but the portion size was small. The beef tips, weren't tips and the meat was tough. I had a chicken quesadilla. It was loaded with way too much cheese for a very small tortilla. Ambience- lively. Plenty of booths and tables. No wait on a Saturday night unless you have a party of more than 4 . Waitresses are hustling. Food- portion sizes are large. My son had the fish tacos and he liked them. I had the house special (La Carreta) with marinated shrimp and chicken. Flavor was ok but left more to be desired. Chips are excellent. Salsa is reasonable. We didn't try any of the alcoholic drinks this time. If you're in town it's worth a stop if you're looking for standard Tex mex. We're from Montreal, Canada and were vistiing the area for some shopping and dined here on Monday December 19th - I chose this restaurant based on a number of great reviews and recommendations on a popular Nashua facebook group. There was no wait and plenty of seating when we arrived on a Monday - the waiter suggested the Steak Ranchero plate for my boyfriend which is described as "Porterhouse steak with salsa ranchero on top. Served with rice, beans and two flour or corn tortillas". I opted for the Grilled Steak Tacos, also servied with rice and beans. We asked for the steak to be cooked medium rare, but it arrived on the well done side. Since this is the most expensive plate on the menu, we really didn't want it to go waste so the manager offered us a 50% discount once we asked to speak to someone. My grilled steak tacos were amazing, everything tasted fresh and well seasoned. Rice and beans are tasty, no complaints there, just wish the rice was a slighty thicker/fatter grain, as it seemed very clumpy. Portion wise the plates are big and you won't leave hungry. Pricing is fair - I enjoyed the experience overall and would come back. Just be careful if you are ordering an actual steak, servers may recommend this since it is the most expensive menu item but not all staff might be fully trained to cook this to your liking. Would stick with other cheaper items like tacos, burritos and the like if you want a fool-proof experience. read more

Menu is huge with many Mexican favorites listed, also a separate menu for specials. Restaurant is not huge but a good size and was very clean. Many booths and some tables, we had a booth and we were very comfortable. Free chips and salsa, chips were served warm and salsa was fresh and tasty. This is the only review you need: this place is the best Mexican restaurant you can find in a 20 mile range! I've been to them all. I've been coming to this place going in 15-20 years now and it's been consistent every time I come. What you get: 1. Excellent, fast, attentive service. Some of the wait staff and bartenders have been working here a very long time which is a testament to a well managed, customer oriented business. They all have at least a good temperament and I've never have a bad experience with any of them. 2. Cocktails are great...and I've only had two of them! Why?? Because the frozen mango Margarita its the most flavorful tart yet sweet drink I've ever had. Have one, you'll thank me later. 3. Chips and salsa are excellent. Most of the time they are warm...it seems they make their own so it never feels like they are just a filler. The salsa is a little on the sweet side which I LOVE because I'm not a hot guy. I don't like to sweat when I eat! 4. The grande steak burrito. Amazing. I get the same thing all the time because it never disappoints and always impresses. They melt a layer of cheese on the top and put some sauce on top of that with ensure you get some cheese with every bite. GENIUS. The only 'knock' on this place is the odor. It smells healivy like detergent. Which I suppose isn't the worst thing in the world to know that they clean their restaurants regularly...but it does compromise the atmosphere. This family run chain arguably brought good authentic Mexican food to NH. When I was a child growing up the only Mexican restaurants we went to were Shorty's, and Taco Smell. I do not recommend Shorty's, and if that were the only Mexican food you ever ate then you would probably only be excited about Margaritas and the big hats. Then NH got Margaritas chain, also not very authentic or delicious. Then came along La Carreta/Pedroza's, and you could get real tamales, and chile verde, and carnitas. They said that the guacamole is made fresh but it's not. It's pale green in color and $6.4 for a bowl, you can get better tasting and cheaper ones in the frozen aisle of the grocery store. The food is fast. but I just can't even tell you how greasy and not able to pick it up and eat it it was just dripping and dripping and dripping covered in grease.
