This is my first time dining inside this California Burrito Restaurant. I was driving around in this area and I saw this California Burrito Restaurant and I wanted to give this place a try. I enjoy eating authentic Mexican cuisine. I parked my car in their parking lot then I walked inside their front door. I talked to the owner Caesar and asked him How long has he been in business at this Starling Drive location in San Diego, CA? Caesar said he's been operating his California Burrito Restaurant business for 20 years now. Caesar also said to me that he works with his wife and grown children at his Mexican restaurant every day. My order was placed by Caesar today for my lunch time meal at 12:30 PM. I ordered one Beans and Cheese Burrito. The price is $7.50. Then I had to pay a tip of 20 percent that came up to $1.25. The tax was $1.50. My total purchase today was $9.25. I had to wait at least 30 minutes later until my order number 109 was called to the front counter today. There was non stop walk in customers coming into this California Burrito Restaurant at the lunch hour between 12:30 AM to 2:30 PM today. Their majority of their customers were of Mexican descent and I saw only 3 Black People placing their orders with Caesar today. I was the only Asian person ordering from this California Burrito Restaurant this afternoon. I also noticed 2 Nurses picking up their orders today who work for Sharp Memorial Hospital today. This man and woman nurse were of Caucasian descent. It's interesting for me to get to know the population of people who are living nearby this Starling Drive location. Caesar called my order number 109 today. Then I was served a really HUGE Beans and Cheese Burrito. I also drank cold ice water today. It was a beautiful day today because the weather conditions were very cool and cloudy. I sat down at this window seat so I could see the outside. The Beans and Cheese Burrito was very tasty the beans were refried and thete was a very generous amount of shredded cheddar cheese. The Tortilla was heated up and slightly toasted. This Beans and Cheese Burrito was a HUGE Size. I wasn't sure that I had an appetite to finish eating this Beans and Cheese Burrito but the flavor was amazing! I kept taking small bites on this Beans and Cheese Burrito for my lunch time meal this afternoon. I also received excellent customer service from Caesar and the rest of his family I saw was working very hard in the back kitchen area preparing and making their very popular Carne Asada Burritos. I also saw Caesar and an older lady sweeping up the floor and also mopping up the floor inside their front entrance to their California Burrito Restaurant Caesar told me to come in again soon to try their Steak Carne Asada Burrito. When i saw that there was an actually spot called California Burrito, you bet that I had to try a California burrito at California burrito lol Got the California burrito, carne asada taco, chicken taco and menudo. Portions were massive but unfortunately there was not much flavor, and im not too keen on hot salsa since i cannot handle spicy. It was ok but unsure if this would be a go to spot. The staff here are friendly and at the time i came, a Wednesday night around 5pm, there was a steady stream of people ordering to go and also eating there The place itself isnt that big. A solid California burrito! I called ahead and was ready for pick up in 15 minutes. It came piping hot and was huge, definitely worth sharing. The fries were crispy, the meat was flavorful, and it had everything a California burrito should have: guac, cheese, and sour cream. He didn't care for the fish taco that much and rated it a 4/10 but said the restaurant overall was a 10/10, as he thought there was too much lettuce and tomato throwing off the ratio of the taco. I, on the other hand, am a huge fan of veggies and liked the ample amount they provided. ---- There's a couple benches outside in front of the shop and seating at booth tables inside as well. They do things a little different at this place. The California had guacamole and sour cream. Makes it more like a carne asada burrito adding fries. That said, I was pleasantly surprised at how much I liked this burrito. It's large, filling, but their sauce had an almost artificial red color to it. Despite the weird look of the sauce, it had decent spice, wasn't overwhelming but wasn't weak either. Parking is very difficult here, and seating is limited. It's a small tack shop style place, made more for to-go orders. Service was fast and friendly. Their horchata is where they really lose a star, it's from a fountain and tastes like it, watered down artificial flavor. However you don't come here for the drinks, you come here for the large tasty California Burritos, hence the name. They've definitely won me over and I'll be back when in the area. Located in an unassuming plaza, this burrito spot is easy to miss. They were playing Pokemon on the TV. There's limited window bar seating. No water cups cause their machine wasn't working. Despite the pretty high reviews, I was disappointed. Their prices are cheap with big portions but the chicken asada burrito I had was not it. The meat was salty and the tortilla was too hard. It sort of scratched my itch but definitely left me wanting a little bit more. I came on a Wednesday night around 5:30 PM with a friend who ordered the Carne Asada tacos and he was more than pleased with his dish. I had a bite, and it was definitely the better of the two. There's a few parking spots right in front but it's extremely tough because it's all shared with four or five other businesses. Plus the highway entrance is right there and there's always a log jam of cars trying to get in and out. We were in San Diego and wanted to try a restaurant we'd never been to before. I found California Burrito and decided to stop by for lunch. It's a hole-in-the-wall type of place with a few tables outside for dining and some counter-style seating inside. It seems like a spot where most people order takeout. My boyfriend and I both ordered the California Burrito. It comes with carne asada, French fries, guacamole, sour cream, and shredded cheese. The burrito was huge and easily enough for two servings. If we had known, we would have shared one. It was a great deal at around $12. The burrito was delicious and honestly the best California burrito I've had. The carne asada was tender and well-seasoned. The French fries were very crispy and were the skinny kind, similar in size to McDonald's fries. The red and green salsas were also really good. I like spicy food, so I ate my burrito with the red salsa. We shared a horchata, which wasn't anything special, but was still refreshing. Customer service was good. My daughter had a baby at Sharp which was about a half mile walk away from California Burritos, so I came twice to get lunch. I tried a salmon bowl one day and a shrimp bowl the next. They both were super fresh and made me feel like I was eating somewhat healthy because I'm trying to add fiber and protein in my diet. They were friendly there and offered two different sauces. I tried both the first time, and the green one was a bit spicier than I had liked. The next time I just used the red one and it was just right. They seem like they're busy pretty often there, but the wait isn't very long. There are several tables outside to eat at if dining in and some counter space with stools to eat at inside as well. Quintessential SoCal Mexican Taco Shop food! On a recent trip to San Diego, I wanted some rolled tacos and a chorizo egg burrito for the morning. We stopped here on a whim, remembering from when we lived in Birdland many years ago! When we walked in we were immediately greeted. Our order was taken and was ready in about 5 minutes. We got back to my sisters in Tierrasanta and the food was still warm and delicious. The rolled tacos were great. They had a very good amount of avocado and cheese. I really liked their red hot sauce with it. The next morning their chorizo egg burrito was great! I love that they offer regular size and mini because the mini were perfect for a weekday morning. The breakfast burrito here didn't really standout to me. Ultimately, I chose to try this spot because it has convenient (dog-friendly) outdoor seating, but the wrath of the sun was overwhelming. I got sausage, egg, cheese, and potato and it was definitely big enough for two meals. But, I felt like it was dry and needed a sauce desperately. It tasted like restaurant chorizo. We sat down and enjoyed our stay. The flow of customers was consistent for a Saturday morning. Our favorite was the vibe. We are so lucky to get Mex at any corner. So something really has to stand out. It felt like a family taco shop. The "Dad" was the best! He called the orders like he was asking if we did our chores and called the kids coming in mijo. Service is very friendly and the menu is EXTENSIVE; if you want it they probably serve it and it's under $20. The burritos are mostly around $12. While I was there waiting for my order (only about 15 minutes from placing it to carrying out) they filled 3 to-go orders, 1 dine in, and 2 DoorDash type pickups. They keep it moving fast! It was very good - nicely stuffed with a generous amount of meat plus enough fries but not so many it was all crunch plus some other filler (never enough cheese but this was close). Delicious! The whole thing was bigger than my hand from fingertip to palm and as wide as my fist; it lasted two meals. My personal favorite California burrito in San Diego! The meat is always tender, they add lots of pico, guac and fries by default. Really can't go wrong here and they're HUGE. The burrito size is some of the best I've found in San Diego and I have yet to finish an entire burrito in one sitting. The French fries loaded with meat are also delicious and more than adequate portion sizes.
