It tasted like restaurant chorizo. We sat down and enjoyed our stay. The flow of customers was consistent for a Saturday morning. Our favorite was the vibe. We are so lucky to get Mex at any corner. They do things a little different at this place. The California had guacamole and sour cream. Makes it more like a carne asada burrito adding fries. That said, I was pleasantly surprised at how much I liked this burrito. It's large, filling, but their sauce had an almost artificial red color to it. Despite the weird look of the sauce, it had decent spice, wasn't overwhelming but wasn't weak either. I found this place on Yelp and decided to try it out with my husband. We had never heard of it before but it had pretty decent reviews for a Mexican restaurant. It's located in a tiny plaza literally on the corner near a gas station. They have a few tables outside and some seats along the window inside but it's pretty small inside. I didn't see any restrooms or any place to wash your hands. The service was good. They ask if you want any sauces and how many of each sauce and include that on your receipt. There was a red sauce and a green sauce. The red sauce was so spicy. I just dipped the prong of my fork into it and could feel the spice on my tongue. The green salsa was less spicy but still had a kick to it. My husband and I ordered a pollo asado fries and a California burrito (because of the name obviously). The meat on both entrees was really delicious. It was tender and flavorful. The fries were just okay for me, not that crispy and kinda just potatoey in the burrito. Both the burrito and fries were well sauced with guac, pico, and sour cream so I didn't use the salsas at all. Overall I think the food was decent but I wouldn't go out of my way to eat it again. I think this place is perfect to introduce someone to authentic Mexican food. It sort of scratched my itch but definitely left me wanting a little bit more. There's a few parking spots right in front but it's extremely tough because it's all shared with four or five other businesses. It's a hole-in-the-wall type of place with a few tables outside for dining and some counter-style seating inside. It seems like a spot where most people order takeout. If we had known, we would have shared one. It was a great deal at around $12. The burrito was delicious and honestly the best California burrito I've had. The carne asada was tender and well-seasoned. The French fries were very crispy and were the skinny kind, similar in size to McDonald's fries. The red and green salsas were also really good. My daughter had a baby at Sharp which was about a half mile walk away from California Burritos, so I came twice to get lunch. I tried a salmon bowl one day and a shrimp bowl the next. They both were super fresh and made me feel like I was eating somewhat healthy because I'm trying to add fiber and protein in my diet. They were friendly there and offered two different sauces. I tried both the first time, and the green one was a bit spicier than I had liked. The next time I just used the red one and it was just right. Quintessential SoCal Mexican Taco Shop food! On a recent trip to San Diego, I wanted some rolled tacos and a chorizo egg burrito for the morning. We stopped here on a whim, remembering from when we lived in Birdland many years ago! When we walked in we were immediately greeted. Our order was taken and was ready in about 5 minutes. We got back to my sisters in Tierrasanta and the food was still warm and delicious. The rolled tacos were great. They had a very good amount of avocado and cheese. Good local neighborhood spot! Tiny place behind the gas station; never would have noticed it if I wasn't headed there. Service is very friendly and the menu is EXTENSIVE; if you want it they probably serve it and it's under $20. The burritos are mostly around $12. While I was there waiting for my order (only about 15 minutes from placing it to carrying out) they filled 3 to-go orders, 1 dine in, and 2 DoorDash type pickups. They keep it moving fast!
