Every time im in San Diego I have to stop by this place even if it's out of the way! Been coming here since 2012 when the burritos used to be bigger and cheaper believe it or not They have multiple locations and I love the drive thrus! The food is S tier but what makes this place shine is the iconic red salsa they have. It is too die for! The Christian fries are my guilty pleasure they are the best carne asada fries I've had I think it's because it's the only place I know that throw eggs on top! I recommend the California burrito or the surf and turf burrito it's so fire

Had to come back here after some disappointing burrito recs from TikTok. It's a place that reminds me my college days and it tastes almost exactly like I remember it although La Perla and Sayulita's probably have my top spots for SD burritos right now. I love how generous they are with the meat. Beef is a bit on the chewy side but good smoky/char flavor. Fish burrito was also pretty tasty, but I felt heavy afterwards because of the mayo-based sauce and the sheer size of the burrito. Their orange and green salsas both taste good. Small parking lot and drive-thru available. 3 seats available indoors and outdoor bar-type seating available. I think their Clairemont location is somewhat better than their Pacific Beach and Mira Mesa location but not super significant.

I love me a good California Burrito and love trying all kinds from different places. Now although this wasn't my absolute favorite, for what it is--especially being a 24 hour Mexican restaurant--This was really good! It did have quite a bit of guac but honestly I looooove guac so I wasn't mad. The lady over the mic was quick and simple with ordering but hey I'd do the same if it was 1am. The place had a cool theme with their parrot shown on their salsa packets. However those packets are difficult to open and scary for potential messes. Overall definitely recommend, it's better than most places I've tried and it's a solid California Burrito for those looking, especially if you have those late night munchies!

If you want a crappy burrito come here and pay 18 dollars for it too. Place sucks, idk how hard it is to make a good burrito

One crunchy beef taco $6.30. INSANITY. But, ok, I'm hungry and I'll treat myself today. No tomatoes or pico in the taco. When I asked, they had the nerve to try to charge me 81 cents. No manager on duty. If you're charging these extreme prices, at least do it right. So disappointing.

Asada Burrito- Total price was $14.50 with taxes, etc.

The Asada Burrito was ok, but not as good as the California burrito. If I go back I would definitely get the California burrito since it's the best burrito you can get there. The final price was more than I expected. The service was quick and they give at least 4 packets of sauce. I personally liked the green sauce more than the red one.

I ordered my fiancé a California burrito right now and she complained that it tasted like the burrito was made this morning with cold cheese. I paid 18$ for a bad burrito and unhappy fiancé. The staff were not nice either. Not coming back.

Solid Mexican spot with huge portions! There's only outdoor seating under a small covered patio as the space inside to order is very small. Their tacos are probably the biggest I've seen and the carne fries are huge and probably could be eaten by 3 people. Toppings were plentiful for the carne asada tacos and fries though the carne asada was a bit dry and chewy.

Solid Mexican spot with only outdoor seating! The portions are massive, and the tacos are the some of the biggest I've ever seen (given the price almost $6.50 each). The carne asada was a little dry for my liking, but the meat and toppings are plentiful. Decently priced for the size and quick and fast service

Horrible experience the other night at this location. I pulled up to the first place to order like I usually do no answer from staff pull up to the second still no answer. Then I pull all the way up to the window and this employee comes at me super hostile yelling at me (the customer) about how now there's a big line of people and it's my fault. Refused to take my order. This employee should be fired .. terrible way to treat customers. I have been coming to Vallarta Express for years and now I don't want to come to this location closest to my house because I don't want to deal with this individual. I usually don't write negative reviews but didn't hear anything back from company FB and will take it down if this gets resolved.

Say ain't so! Did Vallarta change their salsa?! No pink more pink salsa?

Are pets allow for outdoor dining?

Im sorry but I have to say No, Unless it’s a service pet

Was this restaurant taken off Postmates? I'm not able to order from Postmates anymore.

Were sorry but they take 30% from each sale, it wasn't working for us

    Is the hot sauce vegan?

Hi Rubit, hoy sauce ingredients are all vegan friendly, no animal productos included at all

Is there a drive thru at this location?

    Yes, there is.

Why is this place still open? When it has the worst food and service around?

Getting late night food greatly outweighs a number of things. Also, it depends on when you're actually in there. If it is late night and they're busting through long lines of drunken wanderers that meander into their doors you probably won't get a…

What does the Christian's fries have?

Fries topped with Carne Asada, bacon, cheese, sour cream, guacamole and a fried egg

Can you buy the red sauce ? How much for a container?

I'm sure you can ask for extra sauce for free and just store them at home. I wouldn't recommend storing for that long because the ingredients are natural and they're not preserved. I'd give it 3-4 days before they start getting fuzzy and gaseous.

Super dark and I mean dark, it'll take a minute for your eyes to adjust. Tapas style menu, we were a party of 4 and ordered: Squash blossom Relleno - it's the flower part of a squash plant and stuffed with mushroom duxelles which resembles a meat mixture with squash succotash. Outside is a corn tempura with a tomato base sauce. Pulpo-grilled octopus, one of the best texture and perfectly grilled skin with a chewy yet soft interior. The sauce has a slight kick and crunch from the corn nuts. Crab corn doughnut- this is their specialty and we were about to skip out but glad we didn't. The brioche bun had a donut batter with lumps of crab salad and corn mixture on top. El Festin- perfect for our party of 4 because it was a platter full of 4 Cheese quesadilla, 4 shrimp, 4 chicken slices, 1 jalapeño bacon wrap, ribeye. Flan-we should have each ordered one ourselves! Great flavors and texture, the top had ancient chocolate soil and had crispy corn nuts. Different but yummy. Overall, delicious food that came out so quick, great ambiance, we celebrated our birthdays and were each gifted candles with our names on the label. Truly amazing from beginning to end. Heaven and Hell theme that would make Miguel de Cervantes proud. Goths love and would love this place. The service was great as was the food. A small rotating menu with many treasures to choose from and many items to share. The plating is very unique. A bit on the pricy side but it is worth it for the experience. You need to go at least once. A good place to bring peeps from out of town as well if the budget provides. Reservations are recommended. My only real gripes are the parking (not really their fault), the prices being a bit high and the noisy and dim atmosphere, but the other perks make up for a lot of this. Also, be careful of the candles, one dripped on my date and messed up her dress.

We grabbed a table for our whole crew, kids included, and settled in for what turned out to be a really memorable evening. Now, no meal is perfect, and ours had a funny little hiccup. We ordered the shrimp salad, and it showed up... shrimp-less. Just a salad. We laughed about it because hey, things happen, but what really made the night was how it got handled. Our server Erika noticed something was off before we even said much, and she jumped right on it. Not only did she get the dish fixed and out to us fast, she also surprised the kids with free dessert, no fuss, no attitude, just genuine hospitality. That's the kind of service that turns a small mistake into a story you actually want to tell. The rest of the meal was great too. Fresh flavors, a menu that leans into that coastal Mexican-meets-California vibe, and a setting that makes everything taste a little better. Sunset hit while we were there and the whole patio just glowed. It's one of those spots where you're paying for the experience as much as the food, and honestly, both delivered.

Decided to finally mix things up this time, and it did not disappoint! It's definitely an upscale Mexican spot, but the main draw right off the bat is the location. We got hooked up with a waterfront table, and the views of downtown SD and the Coronado Bridge are unreal. Here's what we ordered: Queso Fundido: Started with this and it was delicious. Famous Fajitas (Shrimp & Steak): Hands down the highlight. The meat was super well-seasoned and the charred veggies added so much flavor. Tampiqueña: Really solid and flavorful. Note on the chips: The chips here are a little different than what you usually get at a typical neighborhood Mexican joint--a bit thicker/different texture--but still tasty! All in all, everything was fabulous. If you're stuck in a routine of only going to C Level, definitely give Coasterra a try! We're super glad we finally did.
