Order inside at the register and pick up outside. Staff were friendly. No cash accepted. Register is set to automatically add a 15% tip unless you change it. Took 30 minutes after ordering to get our food. Really long wait. They should have been telling customers about the long wait. Salsa available near pick up counter. Tried: Carne asada burrito $14 - fairly large. Overall taste was okay. Some gristly meat pieces. Fire bowl hash $13 - eggs were burnt. Bacon was oddly sweet. Flavor was just okay. I was really disappointed with our experience at Early Bird. We ordered two breakfast burritos the Bacon Bird and the Firebird and for $35 total. I expected a lot more. The biggest issue was the Bacon Bird. It's advertised as having eggs, bacon, tater tots, and other ingredients, but there was barely any bacon. It honestly seemed like there was only about one strip in the entire burrito, and I barely tasted any at all. Breakfast burritos are made with inexpensive ingredients, so charging $35 for burritos while skimping on the main ingredient feels misleading. Since the burritos come completely wrapped, you don't know what you're actually getting until you've already paid and started eating. If I'm getting a breakfast burrito in Southern California, I expect it to be generously filled and worth the price. Unfortunately, this felt overpriced, underfilled, and not worth the money. So we came back to Earlybird today, and I got an Eggie n Cheesy & M got the Sausage. I ordered them online and we drove over to pick them up. The good news was that though it was quite busy this morning, when I went to the pick up window this time, my order was in the warming oven, and I was able to get our burritos quickly. The not so good news was that there were no free tables on the patio, so we couldn't stay and eat, but we did walk down to the boardwalk and we found a spot to enjoy our burritos. And, the thing that was a little weird this time was the guacamole. The last two times I have had this burrito, the guacamole has been smooth and tasty. This time, there were HUGE chunks of jalapeno in it, and they were off-putting. If this is the way the burrito normally was, I would get it, but the inconsistency of not being able to know what the burrito will be like each time is troubling. I also think that I may have caught a hint of bacon in the burrito, and for someone who does not eat pork, beef, lamb, etc., cross-contamination would not be ideal. I did not actually see any bacon though, so I can't be certain. M. said that his sausage burrrito was fine. Stopped by here on our way out of SD from Memorial Day weekend on a Sunday. Was surprised to see how busy this little joint gets! The parking lot is fairly small & requires payment so be prepared for that. As well, it does get very busy on the weekends, as we waited around 15-20 min after ordering to receive our food. While ordering I was told the bowl I got could have any meat in it, not just the ones listed on the description, this was great considering I am not a huge sausage/bacon fan. I really hate leaving this review because I actually love the food here. I visit San Diego about once a month, and Earlybird has been one of the places I regularly stop at. Unfortunately, my most recent experience was serious enough that I feel people should know about it. There were four of us having breakfast when my girlfriend bit into a sharp piece of metal inside her burrito, which cut the inside of her mouth. We still have photos of the metal piece and the burrito. What made the situation even more frightening was that the rest of us had already been eating our food. Two of our friends became so worried that there could have been additional pieces of metal in what they had eaten that they were trying to make themselves throw up because they had no idea whether they might have swallowed something. I want to be very clear that the employees handled the situation with genuine concern. They were extremely sweet, immediately came over to help, and brought us to the back. We were shown the equipment used to prepare/cut the vegetables, and we could see that pieces appeared to be missing from part of the machinery. Naturally, that made the situation even more concerning given what we had just found in the burrito. We could have immediately pursued an insurance claim or made this into a much bigger issue, but we didn't. We simply left our contact information with the owner, who was there and speaking with his employees when this happened. I expected, at the very least, a phone call to check on my girlfriend and the rest of us, acknowledge what happened, and apologize. It has now been two weeks, and we have not received a single call or message. That is ultimately why I am leaving one star. Accidents can happen, and the employees showed us that they genuinely cared. What disappoints me is the complete lack of follow-up from ownership after a customer was injured by a piece of metal found inside their food and an entire table was left worried about whether anyone else might have swallowed metal. Great food and genuinely caring employees, but after being a loyal customer, I expected much more concern, responsibility, and basic courtesy from the owner. read more

Parking is a bit confusing because the signs state that it's free parking for a specific restaurant or else you have to pay and it would have been $25 for 2 hours. They have a little bar with coffee creamers, sugar, and salsas for your burrito. We took our burrito to go and ate it down by the beach! When opening the burrito it smelled so delicious! You could see how crispy the hash-browns were inside! The burrito was loaded with carne asada too! I'm not huge on chipotle flavored sauce so next time I would get it without but overall the burrito was very delicious! The texture was perfect and the tortilla held up and didn't break! We added the green salsa onto every bite and it was so yummy! The only negative thing I would say was for parking, when we got back to the car it was covered in bird droppings. It was frustrating because we just had the car washed for the trip down to SD, so we had to take care of that after we left the restaurant. So just watch where you park! Hands down the BEST breakfast burritos - PERIOD. I don't have photos to give this restaurant justice but I can proudly say I've been eating here consistently at least once a month for over a year (I'm not even from San Diego but this is the restaurant I will personally seek out on every visit) I was just here yesterday before Halloweekend and ordered my usual bacon burrito and an egg and cheesy (no meat) for my friend. These are HEARTY, filling, flavorful burritos that no other restaurant in LA, SD, OC can seem to replicate so I hope this restaurant stays here forever. I am a big fan of their bacon bird breakfast burrito because it has a brown sugar bacon that gives it an extra sweetness. I'm already back in LA wishing I could order another burrito now. I am also a firebird burrito fan because of the fried chicken tenders and spicy sriracha aioli but sometimes need a break from the breaded chicken flavor. I love their sausage, soyrizo, and their carne asada (basically the entire burrito menu) and I sometimes request it with eggs on the side if my husband and I share the burrito because he doesn't eat eggs. The WEEKEND rush is real but no matter the wait it's worth it. I've also had great experience placing online orders (expect a 10-30 minute online order wait time depending how busy it is.) I used to be able to place a phone order but they might be so popular now that it might not be as feasible. The plaza is shared with a few other notable restaurant so it's sometimes harder to find parking but on weekends they close at 2pm. If you choose to eat here on a WEEK DAY the lines aren't as long but beware they close at 12pm so if you eat brunch late - they might close on you. I learned this the hard way while in town for work and was sad to see they close earlier on weekdays vs my usual weekend trips. If you're out partying for the weekend, here for the holidays or a road trip and need a great meal, or just want to eat a dang good breakfast burrito you need to go here. I take all my family and friends here at this little spot in Pacific Beach when we visit San Diego and I hope to spread the great news about Early Bird.
