Our experience was very positive during the design and sales process, but unfortunately that changed significantly after installation. Before the install, our representative was responsive and attentive. Two people came to our home to measure on separate occasions, and there was a strong emphasis on precision and getting every detail right. We were also provided with mockups, which gave us confidence that the finished product would meet the level of quality we were expecting. After the installation, however, we were surprised to find a noticeable gap in the finished unit. We contacted our rep to express our concern and were told there was nothing that could be done about it. We then asked to schedule the finishing caulking. That was 21 days ago, and despite following up, we still have not received a response or had the work scheduled. The contrast between the level of attention we received before installation and the lack of responsiveness once payment was collected has been disappointing. read more

California Closets has an, overall, excellent reputation with high quality options. My original PB design was installed in October 2021. Unfortunately, I did not choose wisely and decided to add/change a few things. I contacted this company in March of 2026 to implement changes - from the inception of contact until the changes were implemented/installed the entire process was, well, over 3.5 months. My design consultant, Mary, had never had a design with these changes. There is a learning process - of course. I, originally, signed a new contract then, several days later, was told I needed to sign a WO due to additional hiccups that were not addressed. She never apologized for these mistakes. My project, because it was an addition/change was clearly not a priority; I was not sent a final picture after all documents were signed. I routinely reached out - always politely and respectfully begging for an update. I, eventually, contacted the office manager who, several days later, reached out to scheduling to assist. After the installation/update was complete, my designer did not contact me to ensure that I was pleased with the changes. She may have been stressed, and I do empathize, that is no excuse for unprofessionalism. If you hire this company - ensure that you are completely comfortable with your assigned designer and make sure your final design includes everything - everything - that you desire as going back to implement changes is, clearly, not worth the stress and hassle. read more

We had CA Closet do a complete redesign of our master bedroom closet. Angela Sahni our designer worked with us and was fantastic. She was so knowledgeable in the design process and worked hard to get us just what we wanted to achieve. We went through 3 designs and her guidance was so helpful. The CA closet software really gave us a good look at what the end closet would look like. The install took only one day and turned out looking so good. We have a place for everything and we have a clean look. The light package really added a high end look. We liked the process so well we are having them put in a craft wall unit now! read more

We interviewed other closet installation companies who all seemed to view every little thing as an "add on" to the estimated price, thereby quoting us a significantly higher total cost for the project. Sean is a talented designer who listened closely to our desires and worked diligently to incorporate those ideas. He created a superb initial design, and later gave us excellent advice as we modified the project to accommodate our floor plan. He also offered helpful suggestions at times when our initial ideas may not have been optimal for the space. He was knowledgeable and kind, and stayed in close contact to ensure everything proceeded as planned. The installation crew was also exemplary. They worked conscientiously to complete the installation within the planned timeframe. I was extreemely impressed with Tayvon, Bradley, and Alex. They consulted with us on every detail making sure everything was completed according to our preferences. The supervisor, Tayvon, even went through the finished closet with us opening and closing every door and drawer to ensure each component was in proper working order. They took great care to keep the entire area clean while they worked, and made certain there was minimal disruption within the household throughout the installation process. When my husband and I got sick and had to reschedule she was understanding and accommodating. It was great to see the designs coming together on her laptop. Unfortunately, due to the postponement of the original consultation due to our falling ill and the lead time for delivery (2 months ish), we ultimately decided that we couldn't afford to wait much longer with a bare bones closet for our own quality of life and have gone with a faster alternative. After interviewing numerous closet vendors, we landed on California Closets to redo our master closet. The designs phase was a great experience. Our closet was large and we opted for the higher end finishes which cost us over $40k. Due to the manufacturing time it took four months to get the cabinets made, which was understandable. On the original install day, everything went great. They returned a second day to complete the project but did not have the time to complete the project. Then their team said they couldn't get to our house due to a snow storm, again understandable. However, they did come to our house to pick up their tools for another project? What was supposed to be a 2-3 day install is still not completed and as of now we are six months from the signed contract, and two months form the original install date and the closet is still not completed. We have taken off multiple days from work to be present but they have canceled on us multiple times via a 7:30 am phone call. This is the first review I have ever written. I hope the business turns itself around, but as of now, I could not make a recommendation. read more

Were having a murphy bed wall unit installed in our office space. After the initial design consult it took close to 8 weeks for install, which I understood. Had to continually call for scheduling updates. Got an email from Sales rep said she would come out and remeasure before the final install, and never heard from her since... Installers were great and installed quickly on May 15, 2021 in 1/2 day. When they realized no handles were ordered for our Murphy bed, the installer reached out to sales and said the rep would be in contact with us. That was 13 days ago, never heard back from her. Called the installer to elevate to the store manager, and have not heard from him either. We used California Closets for two of our closet installations, I asked our representative Cari, numerous times about instructions for our contractors...she neglected to tell us that the walls needed to be patched and painted prior to install, and the installers don't care, so they installed anyway...now we have been waiting for this to be fixed for over a month! It's a pretty expensive mistake they made by not making sure the space was ready for installation nor give explicit instructions. I would go with someone else, perhaps a smaller company with a similar product. I am an interior designer and had two closets designed for a client and ordered these in December 2020. It is august of 2021 and the closet still is not done. The rep Mariana we worked it was beyond incompetent and unprofessional, not to mention entitled and very cold and impersonal. We paid over $10000 for these very small closets and they have done nothing but provide an untimely, faulty design, shotty workmanship and poor overall customer service- from the rep, to the installers, to the scheduling manager. It's all been a horrible experience. We have tried to escalate the situation to management, just to find them over stretched , and though polite for a change, have gotten zero done to help our situation. Just had a master bedroom closet installed and overall, after 4 times of different installation crews coming to fix the original install issues, the quality is underwhelming. I was hoping for a high quality custom closet and got a lot of white marker (literally took a white marker to the boards) and failed attempts at making it sturdy and high quality. I am extremely disappointed with California closet installation service. I am currently pregnant and during the installation appointment, we wanted the installation person to wear a mask. He asked us atleast 5 times if he can remove the mask since he is vaccinated. There are breakthrough cases because of Delta variant and he knew I was pregnant but he kept on insisting to remove the mask. At the end we gave up and said yes even though we were uncomfortable. He also wore his outside shoes inside my house without asking my permission and my entire carpet was dirty. We didn't notice this earlier because initially he was a wearing a shoe cover on top of his socks. I don't know when he changed and wore his shoes and me and my husband were busy and didn't notice it until the end. When I asked him why he wore his shoes inside my house, he was unprofessional and rude. I wouldn't recommend California closet. For the high price, the customer service is pathetic. I also tried reaching out to the coordinator for feedback. She never replied to my email nor picked up my phone. If I have to get this bad service, why should I pay premium price? read more

After reading lots of reviews and speaking to several closet designers, we chose to drop in and and check out the show room in Chantilly. There we met Emily, our personal designer, that gathered all the info to fit our style, our color preferences, and not to mention our budget! We set up an in home estimate to measure two closets and come up with a design. She was able to come up with a brilliant design that allowed us to not just redo the master reach in, but to add storage in the guest closet too. After a few modifications, all done through email, we signed our contract. On the day of install, I realized that I had already committed to an appointment right in the middle of our time frame. I emailed CC as soon as I realized my dilemma, and they quickly responded and told me not to worry, they'd work around it. And sure enough, right on time was John-Paul. He came in to look at the work space and got right to it. Through out this time, Emily stayed in contact through text to make sure everything was going well. After a few hours, John-Paul had both closets ready to go. He showed me how to adjust the selves if we wanted and how to reach out to CC if there was ever any issue. Emily warned us that sometimes the first trip isn't 100% successful. Sometimes something will come in with a scratch or won't be cut just right, but that was not the case for us. The whole process could not have gone smoother. From start to finish we could not be more happy with the great service California Closets Chantilly has to offer. Overall not a great experience. The wardrobe was easy and definitely their specialty, but the bookshelves we had them do at the same time are pretty disappointing. Summary: everything looks and works fine, but for the amount we paid I was hoping for way more customer support and thoughtful design. Had some major communications problems in the beginning after an hour long productive visit that seems to have been mostly forgotten a month later; designer had to come back out and redo measurements and go over everything we had decided on the first time. In that process some of the original notes were lost and didn't show up until the install (most notably, plan was to only do a few peg holes for adjustable shelves and the installers showed up with peg holes up the entire length of the cabinet). Also the hardware that holds the unit to the wall is ridiculously ugly and looks very different than what was in the rendering. The kicker was that once the install was done there was no follow up from the company or the designer to check in. I saw a big bill on my credit card statement right on time, but the only follow up was from an unfamiliar email address saying the soonest they could schedule a follow up appointment to replace shelves that had been dinged in the install would be three months later (no response weeks later after I followed up with them). I wish I had done more research and found a company that could have made something more thoughtfully even if it had cost more. read more

I will NOT be using them again. Their systems are fine and the two designers I worked with in Scottsdale did their jobs. The installation was in Sedona so it'a a 1.5 -2 hour one way trip. You would think they would double check to make sure they had what they needed. Every time they came something was missing or damaged. They came twice for a damaged mirror. Twice for missing equipment. twice for damage cabinets. The last time they were supposed to bring 4 vents, and I called them 3 times to make sure and they said they would have them on the truck. Good design waited too long to get them installed. Never discussed baseboard in the closet. Didn't show up on time to install and didn't finished because they need some trim pieces. When asked about baseboard they wanted $286.00 for base board that cost $40.00 and install time of 15 minuets and they already have to come back to install the trim that they didn't have. I Had used closet stretchers and had a nightmare experience everything was wrong and had to be redone no one checked to see that things were the right size before they left the factory. Although I will say it was finally resolved. Then I consulted the closet factory and their designer is very lacking and a lot more expensive . Finally I took a chance on California closets and they were amazing, Jennifer the designer knew exactly what I wanted and she' is very stylish herself and a great communicator . Joe and ex marine is a terrific Carpender, he was very precise very careful and Intelligent , A perfectionist. What was really great is the designer came and checked on the job to make sure I was happy and everything was going as planned.I think because of my other bad experiences these people gave 110%. Really Fantastic having all this extra storage and having a beautiful statement wall. Lots of email communication easy to reach everything was on time they did everything they said they were going to do, that's amazing in today's world.. Very impersonal designer in Morgan Haynie. Very impolite. We wanted to do 4 closets but for some reason we were asked to prioritize 2-3, not sure why as if the implication being that we can't afford to do all 4. We heard good things based on feedback but our own first impression was very business like impersonal Millennial who was only concerned about our budget and did not make the effort to understand our needs. She seemed very rushed. The other major issue I had is their process is not transparent. So nowhere on their website it states that they do not provide their 3D design via email and we have to meet the designer to access the design. I mean we are in 2020 and one can start their car remotely but this company operates on the principle of business moving forward by only face to face visit.. Also I was told that the designer only has the design and she is the only one who can share it with us and nobody else such as customer service or their store manager will have access to the design. This means we have to match our schedules and than any further changes will have to again need more visits with the designer. I do not understand if the designs are owned by the company why the designer only has access to them and why any other contact at the company can't share them with us so that way we do not have to wait for the designers schedule to free up to access the design. It is a very time consuming and 19th century technology of doing business where the design is not shared with the customers electronically. We would visit the showroom but under no circumstances I will work with Morgan Haynie who is impersonal rude and business like millennial who doesn't care about people but only her commission. We had three areas designed and built (two closets and one laundry room). The designs are nice and the designing process was great. We had major issues with installation, unfortunately. It required 4 visits and a repair man (5 visits) total and about 6-7 weeks from install beginning to end to get the project completed. The finished project is fine, but it is not "high" end craftmanship - no real wood, etc. For the price and the time, I should have had a carpenter build out the spaces. An absolute S$&t show of a company when it comes to business and actual installation. We hired them to build out a master closet. They put it in and drawers failed to close and open. Hanging rods fell in the middle of the night, literally. Lastly, and this is still ongoing....they would not install the hardware we contracted. Now it is 1-1/2 years later and after no response from our inquiries they have decided it is time to collect, i am literally being threatened to their attorney. Willa was the reason I decided to do business with California Closets. I called around to several different companies to compare designs and pricing. When I called to schedule the initial appointment with California Closets, Willa immediately responded by email to request a good time to talk about my closet needs. Upon our conversation, I was shocked on how detailed, professional, and caring Willa was to the must needed requests. To meet in-person, Willa was willing to meet early, on a Saturday, due to my busy schedule. To my surprise she came with thoughts of how my closet can be more functional and the design was already completed with the ideas we previously discussed. The design looked amazing. She was observant to her surroundings and recognize our family was a military family. Willa is very inviting and deserves five stars or higher. I gave California Closet, Chantilly Virginia, four stars because I could not do three and a half stars due to service coordinator Tina Norris. After signing all the needed documents and paying the deposit I received a call from Tina to confirm the information needed for installation. I missed the call and the voicemail stated the information needed to be confirmed in ordered to secure the installation date. Tina sent me an email requesting all the information needed. Now, because I needed the closet installation date provided I responded to the email and did not receive a response that the information was received. I called Tina to confirm and received no response from my voicemail. Once I got Tina on the phone, she was very dry and seemed to not want to be bothered. Her responses were: no, yes, ok...It was like I was doing her job and she was responding to her ordered confirmation. To end the call I had to say ok... I guess that's it and she hung up. Very rude and unsettling after I had a wonderful experience with Willa. Now, I'm concerned about the successfulness of my installation. I hope my installation goes to plan and well. I hired the local person to install new closets and was clear about what I wanted (no holes visible in shelving). They installed shelves with holes and when I asked for them to be repaired, customer service told me I would have to pay to replace all of the shelves. I asked to speak to a manager who was not helpful. I then asked to speak to her manager. And again, was told I would have to pay to cover the replacements. I am really disappointed in both the product and the customer service. I am now hiring someone outside to redo the shelves. I would definitely not use them again. read more

I should've paid the $2k more for the fancy Italian closets. Red flags: (1) Bad Yelp Reviews and (2) Lack of professional email address and a reliance on AOL for email. I should've listened to my gut... But I've lived in 1 custom home and 2 condos with fabulous California Closets so I figured I would go with what I know. I couldn't have been more wrong. I started my adventure with California Closets on March 26 and still don't have a completed closet. This as included six visits to my house, twice they cut the closet units to the wrong dimensions. They didn't tell me that my custom jewelry drawers wouldn't have inserts that fit the drawer (they are about 30% smaller and useless). They never installed the valet rod. Oh and they tried to charge my credit card without verifying that the job was done. This was really disappointing considering the number of problems I had. I know #firstworldproblems but I don't spend $3500 on many things in my life much less a closet, which I will use every single day and contributes to the resale value of my condo... so dang it, I want it right! read more

To be fair I did not go with California Closets so this review is really based more so on interaction with the designer and overall customer service. I had gotten two quotes from other companies and figured I'd get a third so I called Cal Closets despite the less than stellar reviews here on Yelp. I did the whole email thing on their website and I got a call from an Office Manager telling me a designer would be calling me the same day. Three days passed and I never heard from anyone. I went back on their site and if you look under bios and hover you can get the emails of a designer so I picked a designer myself and emailed them. Her name was Jeanne. Jeanne was generally responsive. I sent her the measurements and she sent me a design. I had several questions, including about the price since it was by far the highest of the three. She ignored my question about the pricing and answered the others. She asked about meeting so we met at my home. We chatted some more and once again I asked about pricing and she dodged the question that she needed to redo some things on the design and would get back to me Monday. Monday afternoon I got in touch with Jeanne as I hadn't heard from her. She said she'd get back to me later in the day or the following day as she was waiting for a quote for a "custom item" from their vendor. The custom item was a standard item on the other two company design quotes I had. I asked about the price for a third time and said that it would be as listed in the original quote plus the fees for the "custom item" and let me know the "custom item" would be pricy. Needless to say I was disappointed. The other two companies I had gotten quotes for were not only 15-30% cheaper for the exact same thing but they were very responsive. I really felt that California Closets wasted my time by a.) not calling me back originally and b.) not being forthright with me the times that I asked about the pricing and why it was so high. We could have saved both my time and the designers time if she hadn't ignored those questions. read more

Still waiting for the installation of a drawer which was wrongly designed in the original installation. The original installation was in November 2020. Today is July 2nd 2021. In the interim, they sent 2 wrong drawers and promised to replace quickly. I have a whole chain of emails and text messages with the company and with the sales rep. No one apologizes. No one calls you. Absolutely horrendous customer service. I have been a loyal customer for years and have spent a lot of money with this company but would absolutely NOT reccommend it to anyone after such an awful experience. We worked with California Closets to improve the walk-in closet in our master bedroom from the builder-grade space with wire-shelving units to one with custom storage. We were referred to California Closets by my wife's best friend who had a nice custom walk-in closets done by them in the past. Our project started with a visit to our house by Tori the design consultant. Tori spent time with my wife to understand our requirements, did the measurements, and came up with the design. In our situation, my wife's side of the closet had different requirements compared to my side. Hers needed more hanging space and space for shoes, mine needed more shelves for folded clothes, and there was a media closet on the side and some network devices that needed shelf space. Tori took all of these into account, and in the end, when she presented the design, we thought she did a great job accounting for our needs. We had to reset our expectations after getting the cost estimates from Tori as it was more than what we expected. We looked at alternative solutions from a couple of box stores, and before making final decision, we asked Tori if she could help us making some adjustments to the design to bring the cost down, and scheduling a visit to California Closets showroom to see examples of what she proposed in the design in person. Since California Closets showroom in DC was close to my office, for the second interaction w/ Tori I went to visit the showroom to meet her while my wife joined us in discussions remotely via FaceTime. Tori made adjustments for us to get the cost estimate down, and showed us samples of components of the design that she would incorporate into our closet. I was quite impressed on her attention to detail; e.g., ensuring that the hardware used for our cabinets match with the hardware used elsewhere in our house (brushed nickel hardware in a modern style). The option she suggested for the material for our cabinets ended up making the custom closet in the end to integrate and blend in well with the trim of the house (base boards, door style), so it looked like the closets were part of the house design rather than a later addition. During the installation day, Pablo the installer came on schedule, and started the process with a review of the design and the space. He noticed a discrepancy where a special cutout on my side of the cabinet to accommodate the media closet was not done on the panel to be installed. He brought this up to my attention and provided a solution that involved modifying the design slightly from two medium-sized hanging areas to one large-sized hanging area. He also checked with Tori to ensure she approved it as well. The installation was completed within the expected time frame, and we were very happy with the result. As mentioned above, it integrates nicely with the the trim and style of the house, so it really looked like part of the design from the beginning. Now that we've used the new organized closets for a couple of weeks, not only that the closets helped us to keep the clothes neat, it helped us to be more efficient as well in both getting / finding things out when getting ready in the morning, and when we need to restock the clothes from laundry. Overall it was a good project, and I would gladly recommend California Closets in general and specifically Tori DeJarnette to work with for addressing future closet / organization needs. read more

Waited 5 weeks for the install they sent me a time the installer would show up which was 9:30 to 10:30 and he showed up at 8:20 and we were not ready for him that early. He got mad and told us he was calling his office which in turn they called us asking why we weren't ready ? I told the the company he was early and we we're planing on 9:30 at the earliest. At 9:20 my husband went and told the installer he could start he came in still upset and was unfriendly for the whole day. Slammed everything together, shelves were nicked, walls scuffed up and with' pencil marks. Pieces don't line up and I had to spend 3 hours fixing the paint and cleaning up. I had a hard time with my designer in the beginning but Steve the owner got involved and when he took charge everything was handled as I had requested in the beginning. He even added another long shelf with hanging rod below at NO extra charge. He insisted I not pay even though I offered to.
