I'm really disappointed. I've brought several items to this business over the past year and a half. Sometimes it's ok, other times the quality is horrible. Honestly, the quality and consistency is hit or miss. Since the son has taken over the business, the quality has become very shoddy. There is no consistency in pricing either. He pulls a price off the top of his head and it changed every time. The most recent time I brought a pair of leather boots in that I've had for 20 years. Excellent condition, just needed a half sole replaced. The sole didn't adhere and was peeling off before I even had a chance to wear them. So I brought them back and let him know what was going on. HE HAD ME PAY AGAIN for him to fix what should have been fixed originally. He used a shiny glue so it sticks out like a sore thumb and still doesn't look professionally done. I'm incredibly disappointed and sadly won't be back. read more

David did an awesome job of cleaning and repairing 3 vintage leather bags. One is Coach and the other two are Celine. He made them all look new again....inside and out. It was expensive but he brought all three bags to "like new" condition. They are now headed to eBay! I was very impressed. Will definitely use him again in the future. read more

They will repair anything leather. Fixed my belts. Resoled my dress shoes. They have been in Fallbrook for ages. Son David now helping his father Jay's business of shoe and leather repair. They have insoles, laces, etc. And David is now repairing and selling skateboards and parts. They moved to 411 Main Ave, across from Enterprise Car Rental. Very reasonable pricing. Although David is pleasant enough, it should not take 2 weeks to get your shoes polished. We've called, driven by, multiple times AFTER he said they'd be ready, but he's either not there or doesn't answer his phone. The sign says "be right back ". Had to buy a new pair because the shoes were needed for an event. This is the last time we will use him. Just hoping to get them back at this point. He's not his father, that's for sure. read more

Gave them two Pair of my Father's shoes to put new Velcro on. Called to make sure complete. He wasn't finished with even first pair. Said it was more work than he thought. Wanted additional $25 to complete the second pair. Who bids a job and then changes it. Was a young man. I will not return with the second pair. Nor will I recommend to anyone. read more

This guy is the only cobbler in Fallbrook. He did a great job with polishing my shoes, putting new soles on, and making an odd adjustment that I requested. I give 4 stars because his estimated timelines for completion were off by over two weeks (probably because he's the only cobbler in town) and when he quoted me prices verbally they didn't match the costs that are posted on his door (what could I do? He's the only cobbler...) Also, he only accepts cash which is inconvenient. He's a nice guy though and I will definitely be going back when I need more shoe repairs. read more

I had a dress shoe where the sole was becoming unglued. I took it in and the cobbler looked at it told me what needed to be done and charged me $10 bucks and fixed it the same day. As an expert in shoe repair, he educated me and gave me a short description of what type of leather it was and because of the type, how comfortable the shoes must feel. It is indeed very comfortable and my favorite pair of dress shoes. I've worn the shoe for a week and I'm positive that the sole will never come off again because of how much glue he used. If my shoe were to break again, it would probably be the shoe laces. Overall, the cobbler here is an expert in shoe repair. The repair job exceeded my expectations. I highly recommend coming here and save your money by getting your shoe repaired rather than purchasing new ones. read more

This man saved my pricey, leather flats from the trash can!! He repaired a worn-down heel and added a bit of height to the shoes to keep the back of the heel from hitting the ground. It was extremely quick and the price was fantastic. Save your shoes and take them to this shop! I couldn't be more pleased. Just a tip, they don't take card for payment. read more

My husband has a construction business and had a job come up out here. We decided to make a mini vacation out of it and stay the weekend. First day on the job his Red Wings tore from the sole up and he didn't know what to do. I searched the area and came across this little shop. After work we took them in to see if they were salvageable since they cost a pretty penny to replace. The man took a look and said 'no problem' even after we asked for the repair to be rushed. We were able to pick them up the next day only to be amazed at the level of detail and perfection shown. These boots were not the raggedy boots we brought in! Red Wings are meant to last and take a beating but he literally gave them a new life, so much so that my husband got wide eyed when he handed them to us. For a fraction of the price of new boots we felt like the boots were completely restored at a steal! I love and live for shoes. If I lived nearby, I would bring them all here! read more

I'm a long time Fallbrookian and this is THE place to go. Old world craftsmanship, personal service. Have saved several pairs of boots, countless heels on the women's high heel shoes, and my Country Dance daughter's boots ($$$$) have had new soles/ 1/2 soles twice as well as new heels. Would of had to buy her new boots 3 times if not for the Cobbler. Even fixed my favorite (still wearing them 5 years later) pair of flip flops when the center toe strap broke. Give them a try. DO NOT GO HERE!!!! THEY ARE CRAP!!!! I got a pair of boots for Christmas. I took them in and asked that they expand them by 1.5" and put a zipper in them. They wanted $100.. I got them back (after two weeks) and he had only put a zipper in them. I told him this was wrong and he needed to put 1.5" of leather in to make them big enough. He wanted another $45. I told him he was going to do it for free and after arguing and making a big scene, he gave up and said he would fix it for free. another two weeks went by and I got them. HE PUT BLACK LEATHER SPACING IN MY BROWN LEATHER BOOTS!!!! WTF!!!! I told him he'd lost my business and left. Now, after wearing them for the second time, THE ZIPPER DETACHED!!! I no longer live in the area, so he wants me to mail them to him and he'll fix them. F*** that. I'm taking them somewhere where I live now. HORRIBLE CUSTOMER SERVICE!!!! Some others have rated California Cobbler as poor. My experience was very good. We just returned from a trip overseas and one of our checked bags was torn in the corner during the return trip (an older duffel bag with wheels that has carried some pretty heavy loads and seen several overseas trips). I was expecting an ugly cross stitch on the outside (I didn't care since this is an older duffle bag and seen a lot of use). California Cobbler said he would repair it so it did not show and he only wanted $10! This day and age $10 bucks does not go very far. When we got the bag back we were amazed that he could stitch the inside so that you cannot even tell there was a tear and the bag seems every bit as strong as original / new! I would definitely recommend California Cobbler. read more
