Our 18 year old Monier Lifetile Cedarlite roof had many broken tiles due to its inherent fragility and foot traffic from painters and solar equipment installers. Most roofers that we contacted refused to work on it because of its fragility. We eventually found 3 roofers who made bids (one without even going up on the roof!). We chose California Custom Contractors (CCC) because the owner, Greg Meo did a thorough inspection which he documented with photographs. His proposal, again carefully documented with photographs of the proposed repairs, was not the cheapest of the 3 but its thoroughness and Greg's obvious experience with Cedarlite tile roofs (again, more photos of past jobs) made the choice clear. We learned that CCC does not install new roofs but only does repairs. CCC cleaned moss and other debris from the roof, replaced and painted all pipe flashings, replaced all broken tiles and installed metal flashing to replace the original cracked lead flashing. All of the work done was documented with photographs. Our roof now looks fantastic and we are confident that there will be no leaks. Greg and his team of 3 very experienced workers were a pleasure to work with and get my highest recommendation. We are the second owners of a beautiful two-story home in Walnut Creek. I have had excellent experience with Greg Meo and his experienced team of roofers since 2004. Unfortunately, the tile roof that was installed by another far-less skilled company before we moved in has created several "opportunities" for Greg and his team. They've located and repaired several leaks that were destroying my ceiling sheet rock to installing gutter screens. When he does a significant job, he'll take and share photos by email of what they find when they pull-up the tiles (supporting the work that is needed) and throughout the job. I hired California Custom Contractors (Greg Meo is the owner) to replace a 30 year old shake roof with a composite roof, as well as replacing all of the gutters. I got proposals from 4 different roofers and chose Greg because he was the most proactive in offering suggestions/pointing out potential issues and he only works on one roof at a time. Their cost was a bit higher than the other estimates, but it also included things the other roofers did not notice/include (eg, the roofline of the garage sagged and need to be shored up). There were also no surprises with the final invoice. Now that the project is complete, I have to say that this was one of my best experiences ever with a contractor. The crew (all of whom have been with Greg for many years) showed up everyday on time, and all were very professional and proficient. Greg was onsite at least a couple of times a day and worked with the crew on one particularly hot day. They did an incredible job, no detail too small and the finished roof is a thing of beauty. Greg Meo's company installed our Monier tile roof about 25 years ago. They did a great job and we had no problems until 2 guys were installing gutter guards and tromped all over the tiles and cracked a number of them. I called Greg and he came out promptly and replaced them and cleaned the roof, all for a reasonable price. Recently we developed a leak and Greg came out at the time promised and replaced one tile that was causing the leak. He rechecked the entire roof and added some sealer in other places. I am absolutely stunned not to see any reviews on this business, but it falls in line with Greg Meo's unassuming personality. Greg was referred to me by another roofing company, Lafayette Roofing (which speaks volumes), since they simply can't undertake the type of roofs Greg specializes in. Greg was prompt, efficient, and very knowledgeable. His specialty are very inticate clay tiles (the original reason for our call), but he can do any other roof you may desire. My clients were in a very short escrow and needed to obtain a straightforward answer with regards to the condition of the roof. Greg put us at awe with his insight and potential solutions to the problem. He spent 25 minutes on a high pitch roof in a 95 degree heat and did not charge my client a dime for his well researched and thorough bid. He certainly acquired one more fan (only one, really?!) and I look forward to spreading the word to more of my clients, especially since it has been 2 days since any of the two other roofing companies (that my clients asked me to contact for comparative purposes), returned my calls.
