What an opportunity to try some seafood in California again. This wasn't my first choice, but it was close to where I was staying. Ambiance: It is set inside a shopping plaza and was set up as a fast-food restaurant and not a sit-down restaurant. There is sitting inside and outside. Service: There is a short line while arriving, and everything was going well until I completed my order. My party and I ordered our meal and waited over 30 minutes for our food to be complete. One order was ready, but it was just sitting under the heating lamp, and I asked if I could have the order, so my party didn't have to wait but it seem as if they didn't understand what I was saying to them. In addition, I had to keep asking for napkins, utensils, and sauces instead of it being automatically provided. Food: This food was overcooked and no real seasoning. When I came, I told the server I want to pick up and she told me that my order was not ready. I was waiting for almost 20 minutes. This server called everyone when their orders ready and she even yelled the name of customer before me. There was one picked up before me and she called the customer's name. When it was my order, none was said. She wrapped it, looked me in the eye without saying anything and leave it on the counter and went inside. I was waiting and waiting probably about additional 15 mins and saw no orders left on the screen with one takeout wrapped. The next server came out and I asked if my order was ready. She checked and it was mine. I told her why the server did not call my name when it's ready and she just said "she doesn't have to." How would I know that it was ready then? I was looking at her and standing right in front of her when she wrapped it and she doesn't even bother to tell me that it's ready. Total wait is 30 mins just for pickup. Our meal was prepared in a reasonable amount of time as well. The restaurant interior (and outdoor dining area) struck me as remarkably clean. Despite it being a busy Sunday afternoon, parking was not difficult to obtain in the lot of the shopping center. The staff was a mixed bag - one of the ladies who served us was very polite and professional. I can't believe I haven't penned a review for California Fish Grill before now. I must have assumed I had written on sometime in the past three years. What an oversight. Mea culpa, CFG. I've been coming here for a few years now. For the first couple of years, I got take-out ordered by my wife, but after the pandemic, I started coming here on my own with my kids. I have always left California Fish Grill happy and often full. If I have ever left hungry, it is because I foolishly ordered light. Anyhow, without further ado, here is my point-by-point review: Food: I love the food here! Although I admit I haven't tried everything on the menu--I am a creature of habit, after all--everything I have tried has been delightful, and most things on the menu can be altered to suit individual tastes. For example, I generally (okay, always) order the Sockeye Salmon plate. There are many (10+) side options, and customers get to pick two. I get the brown rice and the Brussels sprouts. The fish temperature can be picked, and for the sprouts, one can opt to have no parmesan cheese, tomatoes, balsamic, or herbs. I get mine without the very tasty balsamic glaze and parmesan because I avoid added sugars and saturated fat. Everyone in my family also gets the Brussels sprouts, and they all get it as-is. The balsamic glaze is incredibly flavorful. My daughter gets the Grilled Chicken plate, and my wife goes back and forth between the Shrimp plate and the rockfish. We have never been disappointed. Oh, I almost forgot--one can order avocado on pretty much anything here, so we always do. Service: As with the food, the service here is excellent. CFG has three self-serve kiosks for ordering, but they don't have the kiosks as an excuse to avoid strong customer service. The front counter staff are always on hand to help, and they greet customers and offer assistance even if one chooses the kiosk option. When it's busy here, which it often is because of the food, I pounce on the kiosk. While California Fish Grill does not have traditional table service, they are on hand to help carry food to customers' tables if needed, and they stop by to see how people are doing as they clear and clean tables. I have found the service to be both professional and friendly here. Ambiance: The ambiance here is modern, with polished aluminum seats, large windows, and a nice mix of large and small tables/booths. There is also a small enclosed patio for al fresco dining, if you like that sort of thing. The restaurant is kept clean, and there are two restrooms for customer use, a women's restroom and an all gender restroom. I like that the atmosphere in the restaurant is clean and minimalist, leaving customers' senses free to focus on the tastes and aromas of their meals. Anna and I brought our daughter here last night for a quick dinner before seeing a performance of Shakespeare's The Winter's Tale at PCC. We ordered our favorites along with two sides, Brussels sprouts (my way) and fried calamari strips. My food was still being plated, so the very kind woman at the front offered to bring my food to my table. We all enjoyed our dinner, and the friendly staff helped set the tone for the rest of our evening. As the play ended up going for almost 3 hours, we were all glad to have filled our bellies at California Fish Grill first. We visited this store when the outside is in the upper 90s. And I feel like there is little or no AC inside. When I got out of the store, I actually feel cooler than I was in the store. And the hot grill doesn't help in making the whole place really hot. I hope that mine is just an exception case. I won't be going in the summer if their AC is that weak. read more

If you love lobster rolls and customer service, I would think twice before coming here. Made a lobster roll order and paid for it via the mobile app. Guess what happened next when the mobile app said Order Complete? Went to the counter and they said "we have no lobster rolls." Ok then can I have my money back. "Not now. We need headquarters approval." Why would they need headquarters approval for returning money for food not received by customer? It was not like I was dissatisfied with anything. I would think in all point of sale situations where the customer pays ahead of time monies would be immediately returned to the customer if any item becomes unavailable.
