Hands down the best customer service I've ever experienced at a dog groomer Frank truly understands that we fur parents are a different kind of breed, and he actually listens to all our (sometimes very emotional) requests. I have a Bernedoodle, Bali, who gets badly matted because he absolutely refuses to let me brush him properly. The first time I dropped him off, I brought photos and explained everything in detail. When I picked him up, I was honestly upset. I buckled Bali into the car and just sat there, trying to hold it together. Frank noticed right away how shaken I was and didn't dismiss my feelings or hide behind "we had no choice." He genuinely cared. After a few minutes, I went back inside and asked if we could try to fix it together. He immediately said yes. What happened next meant everything to me. In just a short time, he worked his magic and somehow brought my boy back to looking like himself again. Frank was so kind, patient, and understanding, and his wife was equally warm and welcoming. For a pet groomer, Frank complains an awful lot about all the work he had to do for my pet. If I complained like that to my clients, I wouldn't get repeat business. When you drop off your pet, make Frank give a *definitive price.* He's shifty with pricing until pick-up time, and then overcharges even after having agreed to price. Frank claimed to have trimmed my pets' nails, but there was no sign of that. I had trimmed them myself the prior week, and told him so. Nevertheless, he charged for that, too. Keep looking around. California Groomin' is the best. We first came here when our old groomers had a long wait and we needed attention immediately post-skunk spray but we've never gone back. They do a really nice job and our pup always looks fresh and clean. Pricing is very fair. The best part is that they're willing to squeeze us in last minute. Our dog gets sprayed by a skunk pretty much annually and they always take care of us next day and she comes home smelling fresh and new. read more

I will say right now my pup is not aggressive as she's been trained but any pup will be a handful when you hurt them and cause nerve pain in their feet. 05/23/2023 we had an appointment for grooming at 9:15. When we arrived there was a lady - Stephanie, who gave us a paper which we had to fill. I put information about our dog, asked few questions and gave the instructions about grooming. I said: "please, NOT short. I just want to trim her a little bit. NOT SHORT". Also I asked DO NOT cut her nails. She said okay and smiled. It was our first grooming, I decided to trust my dog to professionals. And what do we have now? It's absolutely not what we were asking about. And also her nails had been cut. Moreover, it had been cut very badly! Later at home I found dried blood in my dog's ear. When my husband arrived for picking up the dog, she was sitting in the cage (the fact that you are using it is terrible. I would never go to anywhere, where cages are). So she was sitting all covered with a towel. Stephanie didn't want to give our dog to my husband before the payment. She asked to pay firstly. And my husband noticed with her face and behavior that something is wrong. And when he saw our dog he've got mad. It's all stephanie's fault! She was keep laughing when my husband tried to talk. The groomer man even came and said millions sorry. He said that Stephanie said him to make SHORT CUT. Crazy! Moreover, couple days after visiting this grooming salon our dog started to scratch very hard. And in few more days we found FLEAS!!! This salon is terrible. I had a wonderful experience with Shirley and her team at California Groomin'. I called on a Tuesday and was able to schedule an appointment for that Friday. On Friday morning, I dropped off our 5-month-old Shiba puppy for a bath and nail trim. Found free and easy street parking nearby. When I picked her up a few hours later, I wasn't sure what to expect, as she is typically very resistant to being handled. Multiple vets and vet techs have failed to clip her nails, so I was expecting similar results. To my surprise, my pup seemed really happy and calm when I picked her up, and Shirley said she wasn't difficult at all. She looked and smelled great. The cute bow was a nice touch, too. Update, our beagle got sprayed by a skunk in my mom's backyard a month ago. He smelled like raw onions. My mom and brother tried to bathe him, but it didn't compare to Shirley's expertise. It's taken 2 trips to fully get the odor out of his fur. I was talking earlier to my mom about our previous groomer from Robertson. We compared that Shirley has never complained about our dogs and it's never chaotic dropping off or picking them up. The other place was always loud and that groomer complained about our current (beagle mix rescue) previous dogs (chow chow mix and German shepherd mix rescues). We think the previous groomer was mixed breed or big dog phobic. Shirley understands dogs and treats her clients and dogs with respect. California Groomin' and will always be our go to! I really want to thank Frank at California Grooming for the time and attention he gave to my beloved little Min-Schnauzer Sadie. As a 1st-time, new client, I was nervous. I had been taking my dog to be groomed in Irvine, although we live in L.A. (a location which also served as her primary veterinarian) for the last 8years. (Sadie is 9yrs old). Because she gets extremely anxious and can be a little snappy when doing nails, feet, and bathing, the previous groomer always charged me $$$ to do a mild groom sedation. August 2023 was the last straw--Sadie's usual groomer retired and the new person made my beautiful schnauzer look like a chihuahua (nothing against chihuahuas) by completely shaving her entire body---beard and all. I was LIVID. Since then, I've been on a quest to find the right person with the right temperament to groom my girl and care for her properly. Fast-forward to December--her hair finally started growing back and I did a bit of research for good groomers in the area. My neighbor mentioned California Groomin', so I stopped by to check it out. In consulting with Frank about Sadie's issues, he said he was up for the challenge. Today, I took Sadie at 9AM and she was finished in 1.5hrs!!! A huge difference from leaving my dog in Irvine from 8am to 4pm...and California Grooming did an excellent job with NO SEDATION! Frank determined the areas that Sadie didn't like and simply worked around them. He gave her a few of the treats we use at home and said that future groomings with him would not require sedation, only my regular small dose of trazadone an hour prior for her nerves. After 8 years, you can't imagine how grateful I was---between the drive, grooming/vet cost, and losing a full day of work, I was elated. Best thing: Sadie was active, happy, and soooo cute! If I could give negative stars, I would. A few weeks ago, I was calling around to find groomers who groomed cats. No one was calling me back or answering their phones. Finally, a few days later, I received a call back from California Groomin' where I spoke on the phone with the owner, I told her I need to get my cat groomed, his hair is really long and my concern is around his butt when he uses the liter box, he tends to get litter stuck to him. I told her he had been groomed before but he's still a little timid. She reassured me everything would be fine. She also said, "We like to have the kitties brought in in the morning to get them out before the dogs start to show up and take over". On Friday the 19th I brought Theodore to be groomed, there were already 4 dogs with him when they opened at 9:15am. I dropped him off expecting he would be done in a few hours. That was NOT the case. He was dropped off first thing in the morning and I didn't get called until 1:30 pm to pick him up, when i did get him, there were tons of dogs barking and there was Theodore sitting in his cage. I was a little upset he has been there for so long but I was just happy he was going to be groomed. We got home and I let him out of his carrier only to find he really wasn't shaved AT ALL around his butt. I called immediately telling them my concern and that I would like to bring him back in to have his butt shaved a little more, since this is why I get him groomed. The owner was okay about it, she told me they did shave him but that I could bring him back and they'll fix it. Was annoyed but the situation was being handled. A few hours later I noticed 2 of his nails were bloody because they cut them too short. This is when I lost my shit. I called the place back and left a voicemail saying this was absolutely ridiculous and that I don't feel comfortable bringing him back there. I never received a call back. The first place I took my cat to be groomed was at petsmart, they had him out within 2 hours, his hair was shaved purrrfectly, and he had no bloody nails. NOW my cat is nervous with us touching his paws. It really doesn't make sense at all, that you would tell people you like to get cats in and out, yet you have my cat for over 4 hours and he wasn't properly shaved and his nails weren't properly taken care of. I cannot believe a chain set the bar so high for a local shop to absolutely ruin an experience. If you are a cat owner DO NOT take your cat here. I paid 85$ to have him hurt and still as fluffy as he was when I brought him. Literally save your money and go somewhere else. Theodore is a very comfortable cat and has been acting skittish ever since. I have never felt like such a bad Cat Mom then I did after seeing my sad baby after this. I was concerned for him, however, in these times as I'm sure you know, We are all adapting to COVID in the workplace. I had one meeting on my calendar from 1-2pm. Didn't think my cat would still be there or that I would need to cancel because of his 9:15 appointment. I wish I had read the responses to the reviews with less than 5 stars. Like I said before (since you continue to point blame) - the groomer I go to now did not see any "dangerous" behaviors. Also if that was the case you should have stopped and called me like I requested. instead you chose several actions I would have never agreed to. That's dangerous! That traumatic! And those actions caused my puppy to not like grooming until recently. When will you take accountability? (I still don't understand how everything was either my fault or my puppy's fault.) I am now more careful than ever if I have to leave my dog anywhere. The businesses I respect who want to grow and keep customers are the ones that ask how can they make it better. I've been driving by this place for years. Now, thanks to COVID, my vet isn't doing nail trimming so I had to find another place to take my handsome and big boned (15 pounds, ha) cat, Baxter. I found California Groomin' on Yelp and thought "Hey, this will be fine. It's close by." I literally was just looking for "fine" but what I got was "excellent." Baxter is super stressed out because I'm moving and cats really hate change. But Shirley was so soothing and gentle with my cat and he remained calm as she trimmed his nails. Don't get me wrong, he complained to me in the car all the way home, but he was calm with Shirley. I've been bringing my little Krissie Kreme to Shirley eversince I moved around the area. I never had any bad experiences here and the reasons why I'm a repeat customer: -Convenient (I drop her off in the morning, and pick her up 2-4 hours later) -Super friendly staff -Reasonable prices (i.e. I used to take her to Petco and it would run me anywhere from $65 - $75. The most I spent here is $50). -Clean & SAFE facility (there's another gate inside to keep the little critters from escaping). -K.K. looks cute as a button every time, love her haircut! *No fancy reportcards needed...just a little quick verbal review from Shirley when I pick K.K. up, "She was a complete Angel," and send her away with a little chicken treat. read more

Took my dog Chloe for the first time and will definitely be back. I was a little hesitant on taking my dog anywhere because you hear horror stories. But all their reviews seemed great and they definitely were. The gentleman who greeted me in the morning was very nice and made sure he got all the details of what I wanted for my dog. I also liked that the fill out form asked if my dog had moles, etc so they can be extra careful. She was ready for pick up pretty fast than other places that usually take a day. Please be warned coming to get your dog groomed at this location. I took my dog to get a shape up, wash, and nail clipping. Prior to bringing him in to get his haircut he was in perfect condition and there was no damage to his eye. When I went to pick up him up he was acting strange compared to other times he had been groomed at this location. He refused to come out of the kennel and when the owner had me call his name he perked up a bit but was still nervous. She was finally able to get the leash on him and bring him to me but again when walking his head was down and he was clearly scared or something or someone there. Upon driving home I noticed his eye looked dark and when I looked at his eye the blood vessels in his eye were broken and the white of his eye was red. I drove back to ask what happened to my dog they said he was extremely stressed and didn't want anyone to touch him and every time prior he had been the same way. Let me preface this by saying she had been petting my dog and had carried/held my dog on previous vet visits. She was also petting my dog while she was saying he wouldn't let anyone touch him. She equated his bloodshot eye to stress, but if he had been stressed he would constantly have had bloodshot eyes. There was no accountability for the injury my dog had at the establishment and she completely deflected. I will no longer be taking my dog here and please seriously consider this as well before bringing your pet in as well. Clearly not accountability is being taken by the owner of this business. To answer the owner's comments. It did not take me 20 mins to return back to the establishment, it took 5 mins as I immediately turned around. No mention was ever made in regards to "how hard he is to work with" and he has been to this grooming place multiple times. No phone call or conversation was ever had any previous time either as to how stressed he might have been. Something clearly happened this time as no previous time was he ever scared to come out of the kennel and I have never had to call him over. Even when I originally picked him up from the groomer this time the owner made no comment about his stress or the fact his blood vessels in his eye had burst. Again no accountability. read more

The first time I visited California Grooming it was super busy but Shirley and her staff took my pup anyway and with a smile. Today, I am puppy sitting and the owner asked me to get her pup groomed. Went to a place near my home and they weren't accommodating and quoted me a ridiculous amount. If the customer service were better I probably would have paid the price because it was last minute but I decided to take him to California Groomin on a whim instead and was not disappointed!
