Tire was useless the day after purchasing the car
    María Cano

I financed a car 45 day ago and I had a problem with a tire since the second day I drove the car and this is due to Pressure Tire Air sensors (TPMS) don't work and they don't show at all if you are low air pressure or if you have a flat tire But today I almost had a bad accident on freeway this is why I decided to share this review. This is not fair you guys should be more aware of what your selling is in good conditions because cars are very expensive and this is just extra money out of pocket

Explanation of the 3 add ons they sneak into your contract. There pitch line is are you okay with paying this amount every month! Beware

    - Buyer Beware: California Motors Direct (Montclair) If I could give zero stars, I would. Buying a car from California Motors Direct in Montclair has been one of the worst purchasing experiences I've ever had. What should have been an exciting day turned into months of frustration, misleading information, financing problems, and paperwork errors that are still not resolved eight months later. My salesperson, Harper, told me that I had to purchase several expensive add-ons in order to buy the vehicle. That turned out to be completely false. The first add-on was a GPS tracking system that cost approximately $2,500. In my opinion, this was nothing more than an overpriced add-on. You can buy an AirTag or another tracking device for a tiny fraction of that price. The second add-on was a powertrain protection plan. It was presented to me as if it would cover anything that happened to the engine or motor. Only after I got to the dealership did I find out that it only covers certain major components, not many of the repairs I was led to believe would be covered. The third add-on was GAP insurance, which I was also told I needed. After putting $5,000 down on the vehicle, I didn't believe GAP coverage made sense for my situation because I had already significantly reduced the amount I was financing. Instead of explaining when GAP insurance is actually beneficial and allowing me to make an informed decision, it was simply presented as another product I needed to purchase. After I finally spoke with the manager, he agreed to remove all of these add-ons. However, instead of simply correcting the original loan paperwork, the dealership opened an entirely new loan, creating even more unnecessary confusion and headaches. As if that wasn't enough, the dealership misspelled my last name on my registration paperwork. It has now been eight months, and they still haven't corrected their mistake. I still have not received the corrected paperwork because they have failed to complete what they need to do with the DMV and my lender. I've spent countless hours making phone calls trying to get this fixed, and it still isn't resolved. This entire experience has been stressful from beginning to end. Between the misleading sales tactics, the pressure to buy expensive add-ons, the financing mistakes, and the ongoing registration issues, I have completely lost confidence in this dealership. My advice is simple: take your business somewhere else. There are plenty of dealerships that are honest, transparent, and know how to treat their customers. Based on my experience, California Motors Direct failed me at every step of the process. I would never purchase another vehicle from California Motors Direct, and I would never recommend this dealership to my family or friends. Read the reviews before you buy--you may save yourself months of frustration.

Faded Carfax report, barely legible. Low toner in printer.

Do not buy a car from this place. You will have nothing but problems with the car. 2018 car had less than 65,000 on it. Almost a year to the day, needed a whole new transmission. A month later, needed a new battery. Here it is two months later, car wouldn't start. Just had it towed. Paid a good price up front, but I'm paying the price now. I've now put over $6000 into it not counting what I am going to have to pay today. Suck it up and go to a dealership and get a certified pre-owned car. Read the Carfax carefully. Make them print it clearly and legibly.

Experian auto check shows the damage as structural and severe

Buyer beware, make sure you run your own vin check and always ask for a prepurchase inspection. California motors did disclose damage on their website for a Subaru BRZ that I was interested in. However it did not disclose what type of damage or the severity.

    Danny and Camry

The positive part of my experience with this dealership is my salesperson Danny went out of his way to be helpful. He even drove the car to their Santa Ana location for me to test drive. My disappointment began when I took my car to my mechanic to have it inspected. Danny sent me a picture of him standing in front of the car, up on the lift, and their mechanic inspecting the rear end of the car. See attached pictures and text. My mechanic put the car up on his rack and immediately determined this car had been in a severe accident which damaged the rear end of the car, that had been repaired and there were also many prominent areas of visible rust that had be growing for awhile. I was assured this car had never been in an accident and (you'll see from the attached pictures and text) assured it had been thoroughly inspected prior to my driving it. How frustrating and disappointing I wasn't informed by anyone at California Direct Motors of this obvious accident. So even though I would recommend Danny as a good salesperson, I can't in good conscious recommend this dealership. And I purchased my current car from another dealership. FYI- Danny's text to me Hi Christine this is Danny. Here are two pics of the car with me in there. Im having the car thoroughly inspected because i know that was a concern of yours. Thats why its up on the hoist.

Frank and Albert in finance went above and beyond to get me into the car I wanted. Frank met me immediately at the door, and started processing my request and all of the necessary paperwork and communications for the transaction. And they went to search for better financing, landing me a better deal than my original pre-approval. If you're buying a car, this company--and these two representatives, and especially Frank--are highly recommended by this satisfied customer.

All the stars go to Fabian. He was transparent, courteous and straightforward. He helped my sister in law get into the car she wanted. I took out one star for the dealer who didn't prep the car before we took possession. Sale Stickers were still on, no car wash. Not acceptable.

    One of the 4 error messages-- WON'T PASS SMOG ! ! ! I'm SOL !

DON"T BUY FROM California Motors Direct--- you will regret it... If I could put ZERO Stars, I would. Sold me a car that won't pass smog and now I'm stuck. Sold it to me with a fraudulent smog certificate. Don't buy from this dealer. From my research and experience now--- I think all the 1 star reviews seem legit, all the 5 star reviews look fake. My car was damaged, in an accident and purchased at auction. I think CMD buys junk cars cheap at auctions and does minimal and sells them at great profit--- then adds on all the GPS, Anti-Theft $2,500 fees and crap--- and rips people off. No integrity. Horrible customer services. The GM Albert Ramirez tried to buy me off and shut me up for $1200 and sign their legal doc--- $1,200 won't BEGIN to fix my car. I didn't sign it! Chris Astall, the service mgr is a joke. Waited for 6 hours for a few minor repairs. Very disrespectful. Never answers the phone. Nobody there answers the phone or takes calls--- I called for 6 days to get Chris Astall. No responsibility, no integrity, no human honesty--- just lies, deceit and greed! They sent their lawyer after me--- ???!? Reading reviews from 3 of their used car locations, doing a Chat GPT search of complaints-- this place is the worst ! Tons of complaints with BBB, YELP, FTC, California Bureau of Automotive Repair, etc. They had 51 BBB complaints from the Montclair location and 49 were "Unanswered" ! I can't believe they are still in business. Sorry to all the folks that got ripped off like me. Contact me to join forces, if you want ! This is despicable ! The DMV and the FTC should shut them down.... now !

One of the Check Engine error messages.....

DON'T BUY A CAR FROM CALIFORNIA MOTORS DIRECT! Please take the one-star reviews seriously. Had I read them before purchasing my vehicle, I would NOT have bought from California Motors Direct. And I would have saved A LOT of money and hassle ! They sold me a car that WON'T PASS SMOG. April 2026 I purchased a 2022 Toyota Prius from the Montclair dealership. At 8:30 p.m., after approximately three and a half hours of completing paperwork and waiting, I began driving home. About 45 minutes later, multiple warnings appeared, including "Check Engine," "See Your Dealer," and "Hybrid Battery Failure." I called the dealership the next day. Chris Astall, the Service Manager told me they would address the issue when I returned for repairs they had already promised, including replacement of the driver-side mirror. I brought the vehicle back approximately two weeks later. According to my understanding, they disconnected and reconnected the battery, which temporarily cleared the warning messages. The dealership told me that if the Check Engine Error messages returned, I should take the car to a Toyota dealership because the problem was "the hybrid battery and would be covered under warranty." During my drive home, all the warning messages returned. I then had the vehicle inspected at a Toyota dealership. Two certified mechanics told me the hybrid battery was not the cause and that the vehicle had serious problems. They also told me that, in their professional opinion, the vehicle would not have passed a legitimate smog inspection in its present condition. This raises serious concerns for me about the smog certificate provided in connection with the sale. I am seeking documentation and pursuing the matter through the appropriate channels. California law (California Vehicle Code Section 24007) prohibits a dealer from selling a vehicle that does not comply with applicable smog requirements. I tried to work things out with Chris Astall, the Service Manager and then Albert Ramirez, the General Manager to no avail. They tried to get me to sign a document that I would shut-up and accept $1,200. That wouldn't even begin to fix this car. Plus, it would have taken away my First Ammendment rights. California Motors Direct was Zero help. Waste of time. Con artists. They are horrible to deal with and all the stars have to line up to get them on the phone. This purchase has caused me substantial financial loss, inconvenience, damages and stress. I am currently attempting to resolve the dispute with California Motors Direct through their attorney, Paige C. Sirey. Based on my experience, I strongly recommend that prospective buyers obtain an independent inspection, review the vehicle's diagnostic history, and verify all smog documentation before completing a purchase. Or don't waste your time and buy elsewhere ! I have records supporting my account, including warning messages, repair visits, and the Toyota dealership's findings. I am waging a large public campaign--justice must be served. ***** Contact me if you want to join forces.

Correspondence with the sales person that I made it crystal clear that we were not interested in any add-ons.

I purchased a 2022 Gray Mustang GT with 27k miles in July of 2026. When I arrived with pre-approved financing from my credit union, Westin started pressuring me to finance through their preferred lender instead before I even had a chance to look the car over. He told me I wouldn't be able to drive the car home that day if I went with my own financing because of DMV hoops. Understandable, as I am aware this is a tactic dealers use to push a sale. However, it made me feel an elevated level of pressure. I was in love with the car and willing to refinance after the purchase, but I will deduct half a star for this. I will deduct another half for this: I brought a friend who is a professional mechanic with Toyota to check the car out. Before the test drive, he alerted me to a leaking rear differential and low motor oil levels. During the drive, we noticed the rear-view camera wasn't working and a tire pressure monitor warning was lit. When asked about these issues, Shane told us the camera had an active recall and that the car had just been serviced (including a rebuilt transmission) with Puente Hills Ford, but they didn't have the parts to fix the camera and there was nothing to worry about with regards to the rear differential and low motor oil. My friend knows what he knows, and I found it odd that a vehicle would have low, dirty motor oil right after a major dealership service. The test drive itself sold me. A 5.0 Mustang has long been my dream car, and the after-market Borla exhaust (never mentioned online or during calls) was a sound I could never get tired of. My friend strongly advised me to take the car to a dealer to check the issues while it was still under warranty. Because it was, I went ahead with the purchase. The financing with their lender was quick and easy, done in about 45 minutes. Shane even threw in 300 bucks in cash to get the tire pressure monitors replaced (which I discovered later at Ford would cost about $700). I used his cash towards the down payment. There was an active recall for the rear view camera, which settled me on that issue, and overall the experience at Kutsch was smooth. I understand they are trying to sell cars, but I would appreciate more transparency. If you are not lucky enough to have a pro mechanic with you, or purchase a car that is out of warranty, you might get fleeced. This is true for any used car dealership. After purchasing the car I took it to my local Ford dealer, Ford of Montebello, for a diagnostic check. When the tech opened the hood he right away told me the car smelled like it was burning oil, explaining the low levels. The car spent 2 weeks at the dealer. The rear differential was indeed leaking fluid and had to be serviced, the engine had a bad front crankshaft seal that was leaking oil, and the transmission was actually fine and working like new. The recalls were taken care of, and I decided to ignore the tire pressure monitor warning since it is nothing major. All of this work would have cost about 7K if the car was out of warranty. I didn't pay a dime, but I did lose the car for 2 weeks. I also refinanced their 8.1% rate, no extended warranty or GAP, for my 5.3% rate w/GAP and extended warranty, and lowered my overall interest by about 4k. At the end of it all, I am really happy with my purchase and the overall ease with the process. There were no hidden fees or markups, which I did expect because of the Borla exhaust, but nope, none of that. The price advertised was the price I payed. No negative feelings towards Kutsch, Shane, or Westin, and I thank them both for their business, but you have to be careful. These dudes are overall friendly, and they do have a great selection of performance and luxury vehicles on their lot if you want something with lots of horsepower. I am enjoying the car, getting about a million smiles per gallon!
