Tire was useless the day after purchasing the car
    María Cano

I financed a car 45 day ago and I had a problem with a tire since the second day I drove the car and this is due to Pressure Tire Air sensors (TPMS) don't work and they don't show at all if you are low air pressure or if you have a flat tire But today I almost had a bad accident on freeway this is why I decided to share this review. This is not fair you guys should be more aware of what your selling is in good conditions because cars are very expensive and this is just extra money out of pocket

Explanation of the 3 add ons they sneak into your contract. There pitch line is are you okay with paying this amount every month! Beware

    - Buyer Beware: California Motors Direct (Montclair) If I could give zero stars, I would. Buying a car from California Motors Direct in Montclair has been one of the worst purchasing experiences I've ever had. What should have been an exciting day turned into months of frustration, misleading information, financing problems, and paperwork errors that are still not resolved eight months later. My salesperson, Harper, told me that I had to purchase several expensive add-ons in order to buy the vehicle. That turned out to be completely false. The first add-on was a GPS tracking system that cost approximately $2,500. In my opinion, this was nothing more than an overpriced add-on. You can buy an AirTag or another tracking device for a tiny fraction of that price. The second add-on was a powertrain protection plan. It was presented to me as if it would cover anything that happened to the engine or motor. Only after I got to the dealership did I find out that it only covers certain major components, not many of the repairs I was led to believe would be covered. The third add-on was GAP insurance, which I was also told I needed. After putting $5,000 down on the vehicle, I didn't believe GAP coverage made sense for my situation because I had already significantly reduced the amount I was financing. Instead of explaining when GAP insurance is actually beneficial and allowing me to make an informed decision, it was simply presented as another product I needed to purchase. After I finally spoke with the manager, he agreed to remove all of these add-ons. However, instead of simply correcting the original loan paperwork, the dealership opened an entirely new loan, creating even more unnecessary confusion and headaches. As if that wasn't enough, the dealership misspelled my last name on my registration paperwork. It has now been eight months, and they still haven't corrected their mistake. I still have not received the corrected paperwork because they have failed to complete what they need to do with the DMV and my lender. I've spent countless hours making phone calls trying to get this fixed, and it still isn't resolved. This entire experience has been stressful from beginning to end. Between the misleading sales tactics, the pressure to buy expensive add-ons, the financing mistakes, and the ongoing registration issues, I have completely lost confidence in this dealership. My advice is simple: take your business somewhere else. There are plenty of dealerships that are honest, transparent, and know how to treat their customers. Based on my experience, California Motors Direct failed me at every step of the process. I would never purchase another vehicle from California Motors Direct, and I would never recommend this dealership to my family or friends. Read the reviews before you buy--you may save yourself months of frustration.

Faded Carfax report, barely legible. Low toner in printer.
    Laura N.

Do not buy a car from this place. You will have nothing but problems with the car. 2018 car had less than 65,000 on it. Almost a year to the day, needed a whole new transmission. A month later, needed a new battery. Here it is two months later, car wouldn't start. Just had it towed. Paid a good price up front, but I'm paying the price now. I've now put over $6000 into it not counting what I am going to have to pay today. Suck it up and go to a dealership and get a certified pre-owned car. Read the Carfax carefully. Make them print it clearly and legibly.

Experian auto check shows the damage as structural and severe

Buyer beware, make sure you run your own vin check and always ask for a prepurchase inspection. California motors did disclose damage on their website for a Subaru BRZ that I was interested in. However it did not disclose what type of damage or the severity.

    Danny and Camry

The positive part of my experience with this dealership is my salesperson Danny went out of his way to be helpful. He even drove the car to their Santa Ana location for me to test drive. My disappointment began when I took my car to my mechanic to have it inspected. Danny sent me a picture of him standing in front of the car, up on the lift, and their mechanic inspecting the rear end of the car. See attached pictures and text. My mechanic put the car up on his rack and immediately determined this car had been in a severe accident which damaged the rear end of the car, that had been repaired and there were also many prominent areas of visible rust that had be growing for awhile. I was assured this car had never been in an accident and (you'll see from the attached pictures and text) assured it had been thoroughly inspected prior to my driving it. How frustrating and disappointing I wasn't informed by anyone at California Direct Motors of this obvious accident. So even though I would recommend Danny as a good salesperson, I can't in good conscious recommend this dealership. And I purchased my current car from another dealership. FYI- Danny's text to me Hi Christine this is Danny. Here are two pics of the car with me in there. Im having the car thoroughly inspected because i know that was a concern of yours. Thats why its up on the hoist.

Frank and Albert in finance went above and beyond to get me into the car I wanted. Frank met me immediately at the door, and started processing my request and all of the necessary paperwork and communications for the transaction. And they went to search for better financing, landing me a better deal than my original pre-approval. If you're buying a car, this company--and these two representatives, and especially Frank--are highly recommended by this satisfied customer.

All the stars go to Fabian. He was transparent, courteous and straightforward. He helped my sister in law get into the car she wanted. I took out one star for the dealer who didn't prep the car before we took possession. Sale Stickers were still on, no car wash. Not acceptable.

    One of the 4 error messages-- WON'T PASS SMOG ! ! ! I'm SOL !

DON"T BUY FROM California Motors Direct--- you will regret it... If I could put ZERO Stars, I would. Sold me a car that won't pass smog and now I'm stuck. Sold it to me with a fraudulent smog certificate. Don't buy from this dealer. From my research and experience now--- I think all the 1 star reviews seem legit, all the 5 star reviews look fake. My car was damaged, in an accident and purchased at auction. I think CMD buys junk cars cheap at auctions and does minimal and sells them at great profit--- then adds on all the GPS, Anti-Theft $2,500 fees and crap--- and rips people off. No integrity. Horrible customer services. The GM Albert Ramirez tried to buy me off and shut me up for $1200 and sign their legal doc--- $1,200 won't BEGIN to fix my car. I didn't sign it! Chris Astall, the service mgr is a joke. Waited for 6 hours for a few minor repairs. Very disrespectful. Never answers the phone. Nobody there answers the phone or takes calls--- I called for 6 days to get Chris Astall. No responsibility, no integrity, no human honesty--- just lies, deceit and greed! They sent their lawyer after me--- ???!? Reading reviews from 3 of their used car locations, doing a Chat GPT search of complaints-- this place is the worst ! Tons of complaints with BBB, YELP, FTC, California Bureau of Automotive Repair, etc. They had 51 BBB complaints from the Montclair location and 49 were "Unanswered" ! I can't believe they are still in business. Sorry to all the folks that got ripped off like me. Contact me to join forces, if you want ! This is despicable ! The DMV and the FTC should shut them down.... now !

One of the Check Engine error messages.....

DON'T BUY A CAR FROM CALIFORNIA MOTORS DIRECT! Please take the one-star reviews seriously. Had I read them before purchasing my vehicle, I would NOT have bought from California Motors Direct. And I would have saved A LOT of money and hassle ! They sold me a car that WON'T PASS SMOG. April 2026 I purchased a 2022 Toyota Prius from the Montclair dealership. At 8:30 p.m., after approximately three and a half hours of completing paperwork and waiting, I began driving home. About 45 minutes later, multiple warnings appeared, including "Check Engine," "See Your Dealer," and "Hybrid Battery Failure." I called the dealership the next day. Chris Astall, the Service Manager told me they would address the issue when I returned for repairs they had already promised, including replacement of the driver-side mirror. I brought the vehicle back approximately two weeks later. According to my understanding, they disconnected and reconnected the battery, which temporarily cleared the warning messages. The dealership told me that if the Check Engine Error messages returned, I should take the car to a Toyota dealership because the problem was "the hybrid battery and would be covered under warranty." During my drive home, all the warning messages returned. I then had the vehicle inspected at a Toyota dealership. Two certified mechanics told me the hybrid battery was not the cause and that the vehicle had serious problems. They also told me that, in their professional opinion, the vehicle would not have passed a legitimate smog inspection in its present condition. This raises serious concerns for me about the smog certificate provided in connection with the sale. I am seeking documentation and pursuing the matter through the appropriate channels. California law (California Vehicle Code Section 24007) prohibits a dealer from selling a vehicle that does not comply with applicable smog requirements. I tried to work things out with Chris Astall, the Service Manager and then Albert Ramirez, the General Manager to no avail. They tried to get me to sign a document that I would shut-up and accept $1,200. That wouldn't even begin to fix this car. Plus, it would have taken away my First Ammendment rights. California Motors Direct was Zero help. Waste of time. Con artists. They are horrible to deal with and all the stars have to line up to get them on the phone. This purchase has caused me substantial financial loss, inconvenience, damages and stress. I am currently attempting to resolve the dispute with California Motors Direct through their attorney, Paige C. Sirey. Based on my experience, I strongly recommend that prospective buyers obtain an independent inspection, review the vehicle's diagnostic history, and verify all smog documentation before completing a purchase. Or don't waste your time and buy elsewhere ! I have records supporting my account, including warning messages, repair visits, and the Toyota dealership's findings. I am waging a large public campaign--justice must be served. ***** Contact me if you want to join forces.

Correspondence with the sales person that I made it crystal clear that we were not interested in any add-ons.

Unfortunately, I didn't have a key to unlock my SUV or lock/unlock my glove box. After a month and a half, I emailed my salesperson to see what could be done about this. After 1 week of haggling with him & managers through emails, I got the dealership to approve a Dodge key fob with a key cut for my SUV. When I arrived at the dealership, Elliott was my service advisor. He greeted me warmly and asked how he could help me. I told him that I was here to get a Dodge key fob made for my SUV, that was approved by management. I was there for about an hour, Elliott made sure I was comfortable, offered me soft drinks, & a massage chair. After an hour, Elliott checked my new key fob to make sure it worked. He showed me how to remote start my vehicle with the key fob, and he locked & unlocked my SUV with the cut new key. Elliott also checked with me to see if I wanted my throttle body serviced & my brake fluid reservoir checked. I declined those services, but I got Elliott's phone number to set up those services he offered at a later date. When I do return back to Knight Claremont Dodge Jeep Ram, I will be asking for Elliott every time!

PLEASE READ I…read morehaven't written a Yelp review since 2020 , you can look at my profile. But after my experience today, I felt like I had to write one to warn others. All of the recent reviews you see on Yelp from people describing this dealership and its pricing practices as dishonest are 110% accurate. Unfortunately, today I experienced exactly what everyone else has been warning about. Before driving down, I called the dealership and spoke with my salesperson, Louis, who was actually a nice guy. I genuinely felt bad for him because I know he was just trying to make a sale. I specifically told him, "I live an hour and a half away with traffic. Before I drive all the way there on a Friday, is the price advertised online actually the price? Are there any gimmicks, mandatory add-ons, or other BS charges that are going to suddenly be added to the advertised price?" I made it very clear that if my wife liked the car, I was prepared to pay the advertised price plus tax and license. Louis told me yes. The only thing he disclosed was an additional $1,500 because I didn't have a trade-in. He explained that customers with a trade-in were receiving an additional $1,500 discount. I said fine. At least I knew about that before making the drive. After our test drive, I told him, "We want the car. Let's go inside and get the paperwork going." That's when all of a sudden he said, "Well, it's my job to go over something with you quickly." He then started explaining that the car had an additional $5,000 package they call the "Knight Package." And this is where the whole experience changed. This so-called $5,000 Knight Package consisted of a bunch of add-ons and BS services that we never asked for, didn't want, and honestly provided absolutely no benefit to us as consumers or as owners of the car. Things like ceramic coating, tire-related products, and other unnecessary add-ons that we had zero interest in purchasing. In my opinion, this Knight Package is a complete scam. It felt like nothing more than a way to add another $5,000 onto the advertised price after getting you through the door. What made it even worse was learning that any warranty or coverage connected to this Knight Package has to be handled through their dealership. It is not something you can simply take to another Chrysler dealership and have honored. So you're being asked to pay thousands of dollars for a package you may not even want, and then you're tied back to this dealership if you ever need to use it. So now, after I specifically called ahead and asked about gimmicks and additional charges, drove an hour and a half in Friday traffic, test drove the car, and told them we were ready to buy it, suddenly another $5,000 appears. I also asked the manager a very simple question: why isn't this so-called "Knight Package" disclosed in the AutoTrader listing? His response was, "That's a third-party company. We don't control what they write." That explanation made absolutely no sense to me. The dealership is the one providing the vehicle information and posting the listing. These sites give dealerships space to describe the vehicle, pricing, conditions, and additional information. If there is a mandatory $5,000 package attached to the purchase, then disclose it in the listing. I told him directly that they should go back and clearly state that there are additional mandatory add-ons. At least then consumers can make an informed decision before driving all the way there. Instead, the advertised price gets your attention, and the extra $5,000 only comes up once you're there and ready to buy. In my opinion, that is extremely misleading and dishonest. And this is exactly what so many other people on Yelp have complained about. When I said, "Fine, then remove those items because I don't want them," I was basically told they couldn't because they would be losing money on the car. My response is simple: then don't advertise the car at that price. The overall experience also felt very low-class. On a scorching hot day, no one even offered us a bottle of water. I finally went over to the refrigerator and grabbed one myself. It may sound like a small thing, but it says a lot about the level of customer service. I wish I had read the reviews before I drove down. Their AutoTrader ad listed the car at $31,821. I was already told to add another $1,500 because we didn't have a trade-in, bringing the price to $33,321 before tax and registrations which is fine. (LOOK AT THE PICTURE UPLOADED) Then the manager came back with a piece of paper showing the car at around $41,800. LOL Seriously? A car advertised at $31,821 somehow turns into roughly $42,000 by the time you're sitting at the dealership ready to buy it. What a joke. BUYER BEWARE.

In other words I truly wanted this review to be full of truth of experience and worth. Couple of things I was worried about. Buying a Car off Holt. Lets be honest there are not a lot of things that I have known that are good to buy off Holt other than street tacos. Not exactly the place I would think I would have an amazing customer service experience with great people and great product. Steve, and the Team here is what I would call Magnificent. I was not exactly what you would call an easy sale. I was also a bit strangely organized financially because of my type of business so I proved to be a bit of a challenge for them. Calm and collected they were never worried. Only me. I left this place driving an excellent car with great milage and what I would call no buyer remorse. Mostly because of the experience which I thought would or could get salted over time but it has not. There were a few issues with my purchase that involved the navigation and control module. Steve assured me he would help me take care of it and another minor issue was that the lights are so fogged up they hardly look they are on. Once I get to a place where I can drop this car off I will have it handled but either way I can say this. There is reason why this organization is 5 Stars. They do everything right. They have the cars you are looking for and more importantly the attitude needed to make a good experience. In sales its about the CAN DO attitude. I was frustrated and felt a bit hopeless and they made me feel like I mattered. Steve Knows Sales and the Finance Guy not only knew finances but also computers. It feels good to be treated with respect. This is going to be the place my entire family and friends get their cars from. Here are the reasons. GREAT PEOPLE GREAT PRICES STAND MY THEIR SALES AFTER SALES AND AFTER SALES CARE WORK WITH YOU TO MAKE WHATEVER THEY CAN HAPPEN THEY GO THE EXTRA MILE. THEY WORK WITH BAD CREDIT / ISSUES WITH CREDIT THEY WILL DO WHAT IS IN THEIR POWER TO MAKE THINGS WORK I won't share what Steve did for me as I closed the sale with him and took my new used car home but it was very kind and I think he does it for alot of people. A Little bit counts and goes a long way. I am thankful and grateful for LA COSTA Sales and look forward to more reviews and my family buys their next cars here. There is NOTHING and I do mean nothing that could have done better. Excellent work guys. Sorry for the delay but I really wanted this review to be full of truth, reflection and longevity. CONS: Holt Ave is not somewhere you want to be late at night. CONS: A Little Stuffy in the Sales Room CONS: Issues with Car / PRO - Not an issue for a team of people who want your experience to be a good one. They know what to do, how to do it and where to go if anything does come up. Used Cars are not exactly iron clad anything can happen but they seem to have most of the things you need covered or can handle any minor issues you need to take care of or the direction to point you to. 30 Years + Years of Business and Integrity and Experience makes this place a no brainer to shop for your next used car. If you are going to buy a used car and have no choice the good part is the choice of where to buy it has already been made up. Reviews like this for a car dealership like this is unheard of. The 2 Lacosta brothers running this business are the most honest and trustworthy salesmen you can find in the area. They specialize in affordable used cars! Come here to buy, sell or trade! My family has been coming here since our struggling origins. When I say struggles, I mean, we were a ONE CAR household. My dad would drop my mom off at work in the mornings and either he or my aunt would pick my mom up from work. We had a humble living and even with one car, we couldn't afford anything too new. The La Costa brothers were there to provide their automotive knowledge and extremely reliable recommendations. The cars we purchased from them throughout the years had no headaches. When it was time to afford to budget a second car into our household, it was legendary. We felt extremely blessed and fulfilled to have what others would imagine to be basic necessities. La Costa Auto Sales was a major factor in making that transition possible for their reasonable rates and reliability. I will always always feel grateful that they were able to be there for us during tough times. Pass forward to the present, we are blessed to afford to buy newer cars from the Honda dealership, but that leaves us with an "old" car on hand. Honda offered quite an insulting value, and my dad immediately said No thank you! We knew selling it to La Costa Auto Sales would be an honest amount, whatever the offer would be. We saw Steve, and he did a thorough inspection and pulled up the car's official reports, and gave us his professional opinion. We knew it wouldn't be much, but we definitely trusted and appreciated any "value". That car has been good to our family for two decades, and it was really hard to let go. We trust that it will be good to its' new owner, and still keep the car in our prayers. As a family who has bought, traded and sold cars with La Costa Auto Sales for nearly three decades, I can in all honestly give them the ultimate seal of approval. When we have relatives or friends who are just starting out, need a used car for a beginning driver, or looking for a reliable used car, we would always direct them here and trust that a positive transaction would take place for both parties.

But even I can admit that it looks cool . The red type R Honda Civic managed to look snazzy too though, so between the two I'd hypothetically choose that one. What do you think? Come on down to the Metro Honda dealership if you are looking into a new car--one of these could be yours.

We returned the car the next after paying for the cooling off period fee, paid the restocking fee and was told the check will be voided. Come to find out it was cashed days later and we are still waiting for the CC charge to be refunded. Tried calling but people aren't in the office apparently. Nice salesmen but shady business practices.

This dealership is run by criminals, scam artists who talk a lot of shit, but can't back it up!…read moreThis dealership is a joke! STAY AWAY, FAR AWAY! The negative ratings on here ain't no joke, but they think of your comments as a joke & that yall are crybabies according to Kane! They use the classic bullshit scam salesman lines, come on down we can make it happen! You will get approved & don't worry, we got your back! Bullshit you can smell miles away! They can never even reply to your request for an OTD Pricing, too much work for lazy ass scam artists! Fk STG Auto Group!! Let me explain why! Now this is gonna be a lengthy review, but trust me, your gonna want to read this to protect yourself! I called in their dealership, Freddy answered telling me that the 2016 Ford Escape Titanium was still available & when will make it in! I told him I need the OTD Pricing & he said he'll have that sent out to me right away! I got nothing, but I got bounced around like a basketball & no hoop to make the shot! From Freddy I got bounced to his sales manager Cesar, then to their general manager Neiman then to Kane, back to Cesar then Freddy & back to Kane again! Yeah, it's like a character selection in a video game, CHOOSE YOUR SALEMAN! No OTD on the 2016 Ford Escape Titanium, but I stood my ground & kept asking for it! They always that bullshit sales tactics like trying to fk on the first date, but the smart ones gives them blue balls which frustrates them so they try harder! These scammers are desperate! I told them a neighbor gave me a car, that car was junk BTW, they kept trying to pressure me to come in! They guys are desperate & very thirsty to scam fresh meat either over the phone or through their doors! Last week on Saturday around 6pm, Kane calls me & we talked on the phone for several minutes because he wanted me to come down that very minute! Well why not Sunday? Oh because the labor day sale might be over, bullshit, so I gave in & said fk it! I ain't got shit to do! Kane promised me the world, STG AUTO GROUP has been around for 50 years, we approve anybody doesn't matter the credit, takes only a few minutes, he would get me approved less than an hour & the negative comments I mentioned to him, Oh those are Karens, Kens & crybabies who don't know any better & are trying to hurt they're business & reputation! LIttle hydrogen fuel I had, I took the trip from Lake Forest to Montclair! Not a bad drive, but I used up half of my fuel! I got there & did like Kane asked, I texted him, hey I just pulled in & parked & his response wasn't what I expected! He wanted me to see his sales manager Cesar, so I waited 5 minutes roughly & it wasn't Cesar, it was Freddy! We chatted so I can see where his head is at, never got to test drive the Ford, just sat in it, touched it & that's it! Freddy says he doesn't want me to fill out the application because next time when I have the full down payment & I come in, it'll lower my score & chances if he has to run it again! Yeah, but if you get am an approval that night, you don't have to run my score again or anything! Just the car is mine, they can't sell it, it's on hold until I can bring the full down payment which if done right, would of been yesterday! Fking stupid! Didn't make sense at all!I was at the STG AUTO GROUP in Montclair for a total of 15 minutes & didn't get a chance to fill out the application for an instant approval! Wednesday this week, I texted Cesar's number & challenged him & his minions to approve me on the spot if they were really serious then I wanted to try to get the 2023 Hyundai Elantra N Line that's in Bellflower! First ignoring me because my challenge requires work, but then the responses came through, we can make it happen, I'll get you approved, when can you stop by?! I requested from so called Cesar, if you want me to come down & fill out the application, then your gonna have to have the Hyundai Elantra N Line on your lot for me to look at it & test drive it, oh, I'm gonna need that OTD Pricing too! The response back was "Well it has to be marked sold in order for the car to be delivered to the Montclair dealership, but when are you coming down?" Well, I can safely say Cesar, Kane, Neihman & Freddy all failed my challenge miserably, not surprising though! On the bright side, yesterday I went to a local dealership here in Orange County, CA, & instantly no games, no lies, no bullshit, I got approved for a brand-new car with only 2 grand down! Oh & I only dealt with one salesman who was really a cool honest dude, not like these scammers at STG AUTO GROUP!

Car looked in great condition and beautifully detailed And it was definitely something that I was interested in. And I sent the information to my mechanic friend, and he said that the mileage that it was at was going to require it To get a certain service. After verifying that with toyota about this specific Highlander. I was so willing to get this vehicle, but I wanted it to be discounted for the price of the repairs that I was going to do on it within a week because of the mileage that required it to be done at that time. And without it it would not be a good outcome for this car. So I ask for the discount in between the price that both my friend mechanic and toyota quoted. And there was no budge. Great interaction, great communication, great cars. But yeah, if you're aware, and I'm aware a situation that requires a price discount. I think I should get it if i'm still willing to buy the vehicle just my thought.

My experience at this dealership was honestly the worst car-buying experience I've ever had…read more I was shopping for a car for my son, so my sister, my son, and I went to the dealership to see a specific car that was advertised online. As we approached the lobby, a gentleman looked at the three of us and the very first thing he said was, "Do you need somebody that speaks Spanish?" He didn't even say hello or greet us in any way. His first interaction with us was to make an assumption about whether we needed someone who spoke Spanish, which immediately made us feel uncomfortable and judged. I explained that I did not need anyone to speak Spanish and that we were there to see a specific vehicle I had already called about. It then took approximately 35-40 minutes for them to even bring the car out. We eventually test-drove the vehicle, and when it was time to discuss the numbers, we were passed around to three different people. We waited nearly another hour before we were finally able to sit down and actually discuss pricing. Unfortunately, each interaction became more frustrating because the people we dealt with were extremely rude, dismissive, and unprofessional. During the price discussion, one of the people who identified himself as a manager received a phone call. While sitting there with us, he was yelling at and speaking extremely rudely to the person on the other end of the phone. It was so unprofessional that I actually felt bad for the person he was speaking to. The entire experience was exhausting and completely unnecessary. Buying a car should not feel like you are being treated as an inconvenience or being judged before you even have a chance to speak. Based on my experience, I would not recommend this dealership and will definitely take my business elsewhere.
