I was honestly kind of confused about which option to choose and something wasn't going through right away, but Miley was so patient and helpful the entire time. She took the time to explain the different memberships, pricing, and services instead of rushing me or making me feel bad for asking questions. Even though there was a small issue at first, she stayed calm and worked through it with me until everything was figured out. Once it was all set up, the rest of my visit went really smoothly. The salon itself was very clean and had a relaxing atmosphere, which made the experience even better. Miley was super friendly, knowledgeable, and genuinely cared about making sure I left happy. I want to share my experience so others don't end up in the same situation I did. When I signed up for a membership at California Sun Wellness Spa & Tanning Salon on Walerga, next to 24 Hour Fitness, I was told that with the new "Elite" membership plan -- which they said had just come out -- friends could tan for free. That was the main reason I joined. A month later, they completely changed it and started charging $20 every time a friend comes in. Nothing about that was ever mentioned or given to me in writing when I signed up. It feels very misleading and honestly disappointing. I trusted what I was told and now I feel taken advantage of. So please, learn from my experience -- always ask for every promotion or offer in writing before you sign up for anything, no matter how good it sounds. I decided to stop by here on the way home for money errands since I have a membership with California son I could go anywhere that has California sun the girls helping me was very friendly When I came in I had asked her do you guys have any after Chan lotions and she pointed me to the hemp by Australian gold and said it was a very good lotion to use after you tan and it was only $30 plus you got the free shaving cream with it which I could always use that given the fact it doesn't go bad for a really long time I was happy to have that I did the red light therapy here and I also did A bit I've never tried before since I had burned the other day I didn't wanna do a tanning bed this bed was good for helping firm your skin it takes 3 pounds off of water weight and very beneficial I also did a spray tan which I've never done before and now you don't have to worry about somebody spraying you you go in there and the machine instructs you what to do how to move how to turn which is much more comfortable for me since I would not want somebody to spray me that doesn't know me just personal preference it was very nice and I got results they have two different spray tan and you could do the clear which is what I did or the bronze the difference between the two is the clear will not get all over your bedsheets the bronze will after I did my spray tan I did the massage chair which is very nice after getting all your treatments done it's just a nice way to finish off all your services very clean establishment very clean atmosphere very friendly staff very helpful I highly recommend California sign for anybody looking to join the Tami membership they are very knowledgeable very helpful and know their products very well very nice I will definitely be coming back here again very soon next time I'm in the area from where future visits and More great experiences to come Thank you California Sun you guys are awesome I will see you very soon thank you again :-) read more

Convenient location, staff is always nice, only problem is 1. Consistency, example, some co workers will never ask for eye wear and you get used to that then some co workers ask sometimes and sometimes don't. I love this location. It has all of the amenities. When I want to have a spa day, I come here. However, there is a girl named Heidi that was working at this location for this past week. Good tanning. Won't go back to this location because there is always multiple groups of tweekers asking for money or causing a disturbance outside the doors. I come to this location all the time and today I had the WORST customer service, well non existent, experience ever! A little acknowledgement goes a long way but there was none even after asking if it was a bad time to come in. A customer had to come out and ask the sprayer to be turned on after she'd already been in the room and was barely acknowledge along with another gentleman waiting with more patience than I clearly had. There was an argument about a client having already tanned as well. When asked if we could just check in and get a bed while she handled the other situation, again ZERO acknowledgement. I've been tanning with California Sun for over a year, and I will go out of my way just to stop by this Citrus Heights location. They have amazing equiptment, but the team of employees behind the counter truly make the experience remarkable. The girls are well managed and phenomenally trained in customer service. The young man who runs the store goes to great lengths to ensure my experience is always positive, and he is very good at saving his customers' money. This store may be the only reason I haven't cancelled my membership, and I am once again a happy tanner. read more

Worst location to tan at. Front desk girl was so rude while checking I my friend and I and said she couldn't find my friend even though she's already in the system. Had to wait 20 minutes to be checked in. And THEN once I finally got into my bed to tan it stopped after 3 minutes when I wanted 9. So I go back up and ask why it stopped and she said it must have broke and she has to call maintenance. Assuming I can just hop into another bed she tells me no that's against policy. Such bullshit. ALMOST gave 5 STARS! I purchased the spray tan membership last month. Out of the 31 days i used it 20 TIMES and it Cost me $59! First 2 weeks after joining i always brought my 8mo son into the room with me and everything was fine. Hes a freakishly amazing quiet baby lol. My entire life since i can remember ive had self esteem issues and my coucelor suggested I try spray tanning to feel better about myself. And SHE WAS SO CORRECT. ive never felt better about myself. BUT my happiness was short lived. I walk in one day, check in and right before im about to walk back she notices i have my son with me and informs me that i am not allowed to bring him into the room with me. I explain to her that the MANAGER has allowed me to this entire time. To which she responded that the manager isnt with the company anymore. It is NOT okay to allow something and then one day switch it up. As a single mom who often stays to myself its extremely hard to find someone to watch my son and that really sucks because something as simple as spraying and feeling prettier helped me emotionally and mentally something ive battled since i was 13. Its just heart breaking. Shouldnt it be up to me as his mother to decide if my son should be around (and i quote) "harmful chemicals". They should have customers sign a liability release for something like this. I just dont think its fair. I keep my son agianst the door in his carseat sp he doesnt even touch the chemicals. I love this location. I have never came across a dirty bed yet or anything unclean. The manager is the sweetest, love when I come in and she's there. Sadly saw an impatient rude customer but she handled it well, feel bad that the workers go through that though.. I work in customer service so I understand how tough it can be. They always make the best recommendations on what bed I should do and for how long. I was a noob to the whole tanning thing and the manager explained absolutely everything to me so well, including the lotions and what they're all used for. Right next to my house too so it's perfect !!!! I signed up for the ambassadors club and I don't regret it, I absolutely love it. Their management team is missinformed about their own policies, and customer service is a joke! I have been a member of cal sun off and on for almost 6-7 years, and once I got pregnant I of course had to stop tanning (while whithin my 12 month contract) so I went into the Cal Suna and spoke with management to see my options, I could cancel for $50 or transfer my current contract to a new person for $15. I specifically asked management if I were to transfer whould the person who takes on my contract continue out my contract without signing up for a new 12 month contract? Manager said "Yes", but then said we cant transfer the membership unless we come sign paperwork durring "corporate hours" with a manager. So my friend and I went back the next day to the manager, durring corporate hours, to sign over my tanning membership. Once again with the manager we confirmed that this is not extending the contract past October (when my original membership expired), he then confirmed along with his associate that was there. When the contract was printed just before we signed, my friend noticed it said 12months on the paper, she then asked again, that this is not what we are siging up for we want to make sure that this is just til the end of my original memebership that ends in October, again they agreed and said they would update the information in the system. My friend then signed the paper and I paid the $15 to transfer. Well here we are now in October and they are telling both myself and my friend that we signed a 12 month contract and there is nothing they can do, and our only option is to pay the $50 or transfer for $15 (yeah right! I now would never refer anyone to this company!) My friend and I both spoke to the customer service manager who provided no such customer service whats so ever and took no responsibility for the ill informed and missinforming management staff who represent the company and are the face for the company to the customer. They offered nothing. Now I am paying for my friend to cancel the fee since that was not the agreement we all had from the begining and I wouldnt have had her sign up, I feel horrible bringing my friend to this place who has now made a terrible impression to someone who could have been a longer or refering customer. This is the worst service from the management and corporate management I have ever had to deel with. I'd rather sit at the DMV for an hour or get my teeth pulled then refer a friend or go back to tanning at California Sun. There are many other great tanning places in this area who have at the very least an educated managerment team. read more

I have been to this location a few times now (as it's very convenient to visit after the gym), and have felt welcomed by all but one employee. Not sure what her name is, but she has medium length dark hair, might be the manager. In past visits, I never felt she was the most friendly but this time she was flat out rude. Not only was I not greeted or acknowledged when I walked in, but when I approached the counter asking if I can purchase a spray tan, she snapped at me telling me she was "busy doing something on the computer," and to please wait for another employee's assistance. She proceeded to ask if I had my ID out, but I felt she was talking to me in a very condescending manner. When she walked away, I apologized to the other employee if I had done something to make her mad. The tan went well as per usual, but when I went to leave I did not get a "good bye," or "have a nice day," from the original rude employee. Last time I thought she was just having a bad day, but it seems like she has a bad day all the time. Though this location is extremely convenient for me, I likely won't be returning anytime soon. If only it were possible to give zero stars. I bought a membership to use the massage chair daily, the other aspects of the membership were only a bonus to me as I primarily wanted daily use of the massage chair. The chair had mechanical difficulties within minutes of my first use. I went to the front desk for assistance. Staff attempted to re-set the chair, yet it again failed to work properly. Starting and stopping repeatedly in a jostling and disruptive manner is not what I desired. I was told by staff at the front desk that the chair frequently does not work. I immediately asked for a refund of my membership as I did not want to deal with the hassle and frustration of faulty equipment. Although I had been a member for less than 20 minutes I was told I could not get a refund. I asked for a manager, who was texting with the on-site staff and also refused a refund. I phoned the corporate office while still on the premises and was again refused a refund. In fact this corporate manager stated that even though the massage chair doesn't work often there were other services I could use "whether I wanted to or not" so a refund was out of the question. The staff at the front counter were polite and apologetic, however they were unable to assist in any manner. The texting manager (McKenna) was unconcerned with customer satisfaction and useless. The corporate "manager" (Kristen) was blatantly rude, insulting, condescending and not interested in the least that the company's equipment was faulty and frequently in disrepair. If customer service and getting what you paid for are of concern to you, I would suggest a different establishment. read more

This is my local Cal Sun, and I used to work for the company so I'm not an tanning idiot. The girls working always seem unsure of the product or when I ask about buying upgrades, which I don't understand. The training I had to go through was MASSIVE. Learning all the lotions and 3 different features about them, so when I ask about a new lotion and they freeze and just hand it to me to look at I'm stunned. It's fine for me since I can figure it out on my own, but for someone new to tanning I'd be worried for them. read more

Every month sense I've downgraded my membership my card never "worked" thinking it was my card I kept changing my cards. It would never work. I'd come in pay the late charge in the same card that they had in the system and out of frustration and being over a stupid extra charge I'm cancelling which is also a pain and can't be done in store. I tried to call them and they hung up the first 2 times and finally they picked up and said I have to pay even though I closed my account and I no longer went. The Folsom location is the best I've been to! The manager, Marilyn, is AMAZING! Seriously the sweetest girl ever and she is so educated in what she does. I liked the location I used the spray tan (versa) we waited for 1 1/2 hours for a 5 min spray. customer service was not there the lady that was working (Vada) was over talking all my questions did not inform us all the way about the machine.. needless to say my wedding is in 2 days and I have a bad spotty fake looking spray tan.. I was not happy with the service and the product.. not sure if it was just the education of the employee or the fact that she was well over whelmed. none of the 20 bed where clean so every time someone came in she had to stop and clean a bed. This specific location is my GO TO to relax and get my mind together. Their massage chair is off the hook, huge fan of the red light therapy and i am obsessed with their Versa Spa spray tan. I've been coming to this location for 2 months and before I started I did my research on all of the tanning companies in my area and chose California Sun because of their amazing memberships. Not only are there different options when deciding to become a member , but the prices for each membership is so crazy affordable I thought it was a joke at first. Since joining I have already went up a step in my membership and I'm thinking about going all the way and doing the Ambassadors, because go hard or go home right? If you haven't already checked out their membership and prices then i can tell you your missing out! As far as store specifics go, the inside/out is always stellar. Never once have I walked in and had an issue with cleanliness. That is HUGE to me as a customer because I definitley dont want to strip down nude and have my body/feet touch dirtiness. The employees aren't the worst but could definitley be trained on their knowledge in regards to their equipment because like the last review posted by Bianca, I to was told I was not allowed to bring my child in the spray tan room because of "harmful chemicals", but after reading the response I see that is definitley not the case. I've had a few encounters with some employees who had a little bit of an attitude which i was NOT happy about because I can get along with anybody. There is one employee specifically (and I wish i knew her name and the next time i see her i will ask and update this) who is the nicest and most knowledgeable out of the bunch. Shes a short mexican girl with beautiful LOOOOONG black hair. There hasn't been 1 question i've asked her that she hasn't been able to answer and trust me when I say I've asked her quite a few lol. She has never seemed irritated or annoyed by my questions or my small talk at check in. Her personality and the way she presents herself is professional yet friendly. In my personal opinion shes the best employee at this location. Today there was a brand new face. Ms. Dominique! Let me tell you that this girl is the CATS MEOW! Shes is outgoing-funny-spicey-exciting! Only had a 10 minute interaction with her but I see so far i absolutely LOVE. If shes in the market for a new best friend then im DEFINITLEY going to apply LOL. Employees like the 2 I mentioned above are the reason I will keep giving my money to this business.
