The customer service is horrible. I froze my long term membership to be away and take care of an elderly family member. They said my credit card was declined last fall and that they sent me an email. I never got an email about that but I get emails regularly about their promotions. Again. After I canceled my membership years ago. I tried to call to get a quote for a spray tan before a vacation. I called this location 3 times and no one answered the phone. This location needs to get it together. They frequently have only one girl checking people in...even on a busy Saturday. And there is a lot of idle chit chat, which is fine if there is only one or two people..but not 8 people standing in a line long enough to block the door! Wait times are growing longer and longer. Here's a suggestion: Why don't you ask the line who just needs to be checked in and just check them in real quick? You have two computers for a reason people. That way you can go back to going thru your 15-20 minute schpeel selling stuff. If it weren't for the Sunrise location recently closing I wouldnt bother with this one. I have never ever left a review before but I am absolutely inspired to do so because of the new manager Ashley! I have been going to Cal Sun-the Dewey location next to Safeway for almost 8 years. I have met so many managers, some of whom were not the most pleasant people and made the experience just frustrating and left me wanting to get in and out. Hpervert, I recently went in and met Ashley! She is in the new manager at Cal Sun Fair Oaks and I swear she is the nicest, most helpful, positive and kind person. So, I reviewed one of their competitors and gave them five stars because I thought I got five star service, I just didn't know any better until I started coming here. This place is great, they have a lot of options for different beds. I'm a big fan of the Red Light Therapy and Stand Up Tanning. What's makes this place is the women who work there, I've gotten to know most of them pretty well and we always have pleasant conversations. If I have to wait because my bed isn't available, it doesn't feel like a hassle because I'm always chatting with someone. I feel like I get a good value with the Ambassador's Membership for how much I'm there. If you know what you're doing in a tanning salon, I would check them out. This location is my ultimate favorite there for awhile it was touch and go but the new spa director Stephanie is amazing she goes above and beyond to help everyone plus she takes the time to ask is how we are doing (most people just ask because they have to but they don't really care )but Stephanie actually cares not only does she care but she remembers and will ask you about it when you go in next!!!! I almost did not join due to the fact that the lady when my daughter and I went in was so condescending and rude ( I thought it was due to us looking a bit rough as we had been spring cleaning and we saw the place and just stopped in). She was so rude we just left. Days later at a store I saw a girl with the logo on shirt and she was so nice we went back and joined. However for what ever reason the First Lady was always so rude. I called corporate to let them know and they listened said the usual things you would expect as of course they want to run a good business. Then about a 2 weeks later the same lady was at desk asked for my ID something that was just never done before that I recalled. I asked to see someone else and that girl told me is company policy but that they very rarely do it but corporate is cracking down. So I told ok I understood but I walked in without my wallet as my husband dropped me off so I would just sit and wait for him. At that time she said well it's ok we let you tan one time without your I.D. At that seconded I said about the rude lady Danielle why would she not have made that offer. So again I called the corp. this time they offered me free stuff and I said no definitely no. All I want is good customer service. And here is the best part I was in one day and the district manager was there i introduced myself (she had brought the free stuff) said thank you again but no. Maybe give it to some one who could not afford lotion. She then left. As I was waiting for my daughter to finish a lady came in and said she canceled her membership due to Danielle always being rude. I said to Stephanie the manager you need to call your district manager back she only left like 5 minutes ago. She need's to hear this. They really have a problem employee. How did they handle this well I'll tell you they listen to the audio and FIRED THE MANAGER FOR NOT DEFENDING THE RUDE EMPLOYEE. To boot all she said was no let me reinstate your membership we will take care of it. I had to leave so maybe more was said I can't say. I actually hesitate to use the words "customer service." I honestly felt I was talking to a friend. Yesterday, 2/14/19 I popped in on a whim, because I need to get this bod ready for Maui. I haven't been to Cal Sun in years and am so glad I decided to revisit the Dewey Drive location. Sammi gave me a thorough overview of all the packages available. No pressure talking to her. She just offered her vast knowledge regarding my skin type and really listened to what I wanted. Earlier today (2/15/19) I went back and Sammi immediately recognized me.(That is quite impressive) I honestly could have stayed and talked to her all day. I love this location ultimately because of the staff they have. All the girls are so sweet always in a great mood no matter what time of day it is. I come into this location once a day after work and one specific girl Gianna, always cheers me up after having a long day. So you're saying that there was an emergency. Well I just got done tanning and I asked about what happened on Monday and the girl told me that she overslept. Things happen I get it, but when you say that it was an emergency that's not cool. You might want to communicate better with your employees. I'm not sure why the beds aren't being mentioned to you, because it shut down on me on Sunday I asked for 12 minutes and it shut down at 10 minutes. read more

I have the option of going to several California Sun centers near me. However, I have found that this particular salon exceeds my expectations every time I visit. I usually visit during the week in the evenings, and while it's typically a busy time, the salon is always clean and the wait is minimal. Sami and Bailey are always there to greet me with a smile and are always very professional, courteous and prompt with their service. They are also very knowledgeable when it comes to recommending lotions, tanning beds, and mentioning available promotions. Sami does a great job as manager keeping the salon running smoothly, and is a great example to the other employees when it comes to customer service, attitude and work ethic. If you want a great tan and great service, this is your place! I don't always recommend tanning salons to friends or family, but when I do, it's always this one! read more

I am a spray tan addict. I have the unlimited package here and I spray at least once a week. I love the golden tan that the versa spa has here. It is a very natural, even color, that lasts a few days. It is a bit pricey 49.99 a month but I love the color, and how the bronze makes me feel. They can be pretty busy at times, but they work quick and are always friendly and proficient. Sometimes when I am behind a few people for a spray tan I walk over to CVS and they put me in cue, LOVE that. I have visited other California sun centers, but I love this one because of the versa spa,(some have the mystic, which covers unevenly) and they never have done me wrong :) read more

This is a warning for California Sun contracts! Even though most of their salons are nice and clean and employees were friendly (therefore 2 stars); dealing with the fine print in the contract turned out to be a nightmare! I went to this location prior to my Caribbean vacation for a month of tanning. I was told I could cancel any time and there was no long term commitment. Immediately, after signing up it was clear that the first month's payment did not count towards the month-to-month contract. In my case, I was charged another month and since I went on my trip, they offered a "Stay and Save". A monthly $5 charge will be billed to your account, up to 12 months, until you are ready to re-activate. The kicker is, that when you re-activate, you have to pay another month pro-rated, before they use the money in your account. This, to me, is very deceptive and not worth the hassle. If you are planning to use California Sun's services, sign up at the end of the month, for that month's prorated fee, and cancel prior to the 20th of the next month. Make sure you do that in writing at the corporate office, because they won't let you cancel at the salon. read more

I really love this location. I've been coming for many months, I love the staff. But the last two times have been awful. I came in on a weekday after work and there was only two new people working alone. There was a line of 10+ people waiting. I waited patiently for my bed, got back there to notice it had not been cleaned. There was dirty towels wadded up with a bottle of cleaner, on the floor and counter where I put my belongings. When I asked why, they said they were busy which I understand and had no clean towels. It didn't strike them to help with the situation. Cleanliness is a concern for me as I work in a medical setting. I took it upon myself and had to clean up the mess with somebody's old sweaty towel. This time I came, a Saturday...doors were locked and sign was turned off before 6. Not thrilled to be paying for an ambassador membership and getting disappointed. This location just recently opened right in my neighborhood and it is awesome. They have a new spray tan called the Versaspa that totally rocks - the color is really natural. Corporate office has horrible customer service. No wonder why location all around keep closing. I've been a member for over 8 years and never made a complaint until they over-drafted my account due to them taking out a monthly payment when I paid ahead and they did nothing for me but give me a few dumb lotion packets. All i asked for was them to at least pay the overdraft fee and they wouldn't even do that. On top of it I sent a complaint to the corporate office when I cancelled and they did nothing other than call me and say just wanted to confirm your cancellation and didn't even ask anything about my complaint. Horrible service!! If I could give zero stars I would. I don't see them being around much longer. read more
