Wow this place sucks. Wanted nachos contemplated of getting them from Sol Azteca or Cafe Rio, never have tried California Tortilla so I said let's give them a try! Nachos on their menu were almost $13 dollars I said okay let's try it. I get there ask for nachos they ask me what would I like, I asked for rice and another couple of toppings (NOT knowing it would be extra) usually places like Cafe Rio or Chipotle let you know when items are extra! When I got to the register I had 3 extra charges of 0.75 cents.. I said wait those other toppings are extra? So then what actually comes with the order?? Barely explained just said queso and guacamole on the side.. manager was there I said hey I didn't know those other toppings were extra! He said yeah you got rice, mango salsa and pickled onions.. I said why didn't you tell me then? I don't even know what comes with the nachos it's my first time here! He didn't even budge.. he said oop sorry will let my staff know for next time.. I said okay since I was not aware of this extra cost for toppings can you please take them off he said no.. I was so confused.. I was like what does even go on these nachos then?? Paid. Went to my car looked at menu and saw exactly what was included in nachos.. Okay so why not just make them (like Cafe Rio, they have a standard) then let you know anything you add will be an additional charge of 0.75 cents! I would have decided then if I truly wanted to add anything.. manager did not make it right was very dismissive.. i actually will never come here again. If he would have been polite and said oh you didn't know! I'm sorry yes our chips only come with a few toppings, queso and guacamole on the side I would have understood. Get to my car look in my bag only to find out I am missing the so called guacamole.. Manager had a chance to make it right and I would have happily came back to try their other items on the menu! But didn't. I was met with lack of empathy and dismissive.. moral of the story stick to what you know Cafe Rio has great portions and are very communicative. Glad this location is still here. The one by Burnt Mills recently closed! I placed an online order for the sunset bowl and I customized it to my liking. I really enjoyed the flavor of the caribbean mango and mesquite chicken. My order was ready when I arrived. The prices have gone up a bit but that's everywhere these days. Navigating this shopping center is a nightmare! I would try this location if I happen to be nearby but I wouldn't go out of my way. read more

There's no white meat chicken (any type any longer) and also the queso seems to have changed. It tastes worse than the Tostitos in the chip aisle that you get at a movie theater. I was so excited when I discovered a California Tortilla just down the road from my new home until I went there. I have going to CT since 1995 and this one is the worst so far. I ordered a salad and the girl making it acted like I asked her build the Empire State Building. She gave me wilted spinach when the menu clearly says chopped greens, she literally counted the tortilla strips and dribbled on the toppings. I got carnitas instead of chicken and it was so salty it was inedible. I will stick to the one in Olney. The guy at the register was nice and that is why I gave this place 2 stars. read more

We came for carryout dinner on 2/27/21. Fortunately, it was not crowded on Saturday at 7 pm, and service was friendly and quick. Our burrito bowls were ready in 5 minutes. As usual, our food was delicious! The only setback is the location is not nearby so we can't visit often. read more

I would always get the blackened fish; not only do they give you a good portion but it is one of the few fast food places that offers fresh fish. I was less than half way through my Screamin burrito bowl when I noticed something moving. Turns out to be some sort of worm. ABSOLUTELY DISGUSTING. Can't help but think about how many of them I ate before noticing that one. I immediately went to the restroom and vomited up everything i had eaten. My coworker had also gotten a burrito and had to throw it away as well because she could not trust the sanity of this restaurant. I can say only positive things about this place because I rarely have any poor experiences here. Sometimes waits are long but usually on weekends or weekday lunches, which is expected. The food is delicious and Cal Tor has a wider selection than Chipotle does, so I'd still go here. Cal Tor has been in Olney for more than 10 years; Chipotle is the newbie in town. The chips and queso are delicious, but the chips are salty and the cheese dries quickly, so eat up fast! They have promotions all the time, discounts in the Gazette newspaper, and occasional e-mail deals and of course, a great rewards program that includes a free burrito on your birthday. The wall of sauces are also worth checking out. Mad Dog Liquid Fire is my favorite--will make any taco go from bland to grand. read more

Ordering delivery from this establishment was the worst decision of my week. I placed my order, confirmed with my email receipt, but was only given part of the order. When I called and offered to ring the receipt which showed the entire order, I was told "don't bother, we are going to make the rest of it". Horrible attitude, horrible service. Its hard to find a place with well made white fish selection. You can go about anywhere to get chicken and beef, yet to find white fish, pickings are slim. I always order the blackened fish tacos with flour tortillas. I think they are great. Be sure to tell the cashier LOUDLY if you want guacamole as if they don't put it on the order it'll be tough to get it after the fact, even if you're willing to pay more. I also like the beverage choices. Mostly I just get iced water, but they have those new vending machine type dispensers and have several different selections so you can choose, if you'd like, a different beverage every visit. If you eat in, has good supply of seating areas even during a busy time. You may need to bus your own table as it seems there's only one person per shift in charge of this and sometimes they also work as the cashier. They also offer frequent patronage cards. You know, eat so many times, receive discount on future meals. They ask you when you order if you've signed-up yet. They aren't pushy, yet they do ask. read more

When it comes to fast food Mexican, Chipotle still wins, but I'll take CalTor over Taco Bell any day! We came here to use some of the coupons I had gotten at the free preview event last week, which they gladly accepted- a plus since I've been to places where they give you a hard time about that sort of thing. Anyway, the food was decent- not that quick on the service, but at least everything was warm. The portion sizes could be a little bigger too. We tried the new Korean BBQ taco again- I would recommend it over the others. Who would have thought a Korean-Mexican fusion dish could be so good?! The biggest drawback to this location is the noise and the crowd. Every time I go by here or go in, its filled with middle and high school kids, and its hard to even hear yourself think. Can't fault the staff for that, but a little sound absorbing material would help! read more

It's been a while since I've eaten a Cal Tort burrito. I used to come here all the time when I lived in the area and racked up my "burrito elito" points. I also used to go to the one in Mount Airy, MD quite often too. My go-to was always the California Screamin' with double meat (because I'm greedy). The burritos are chipotle sized, but these things get spicy (if you want them to be) - which is one thing I hold against chipotle. Staff is nice and they have one of those coke machines with every flavor of every soda. The Wall of Flame is what brings me back to Cal Tort most often. I read that they now have some distribution rights for JT Pappy Gator Sauces which, no joke. is the BEST line of hot sauces EVER MADE. The Gator Grenade sauce is so good, I literally come here whenever I'm in MD to stock up and bring back to FL. I'm so glad Cal Tort saved this sauce company because I was so upset when JT Pappy stopped production briefly. A bottle is only $5.95 in store which is a freakin' deal. Trust me, put it on everything! Pizza, wings, your Cal Tort burrito, cottage cheese, whatever. Five stars for saving JT Pappy, Cal Tort. Smooth move. read more

OK, the food is top quality and it gets four stars. I enjoy the wall windows, the menu selection, etc. But I have two concerns: Both times that I've ordered recently, the cashier put forth as little energy as possible. Same full-time weekday cashier, by the way. The first time, he didn't ask if I wanted anything to drink, so I forgot to ask. The second visit, he didn't point out any of the free add items that were available, so I forgot to ask for that too. But the one thing that might keep me from coming back is the extremely LOUD music playing. Don't get me wrong, I like the mix. But my ears were ringing for two days after visiting. The chicken is cooked to a satisfying crisp, cheese nice and soft and gooey, onions and ect just add the the amazing taste. Not to mention everything is delivered, fresh, every. Single. Day. Nothing is a week old (not to mention it's not rat infested and violating like 15 other health code violations *cough cough* Jerry's Subs and Pizza *cough cough*) I went to the one in Olney, and apparently they hired this new woman there, Miriam, I think her name was; anyway, she was really friendly and helped a bunch. Now I been here a few times but since my taste buds are different, I can really say that my palette is on point now. I never have to wait long, normally under 15 minutes even tough it was packed. In my opinion, salmon does not belong on a salad. If it really does, just don't get it here. Nasty nasty nasty. One shrimp tact was around $7....just one. I can get 2 shrimp tacos with its fixings, rice, and beans for the same price. The salmon quesadilla was as dry as the Sahara. The Queso didn't come with nachos. The nachos are not fresh. Twenty minutes after we were banished from Panera, we needed to eat something soon. I have work at 4am! I got the no meato burrito (and it's vegan!), and my friend got the quesadilla with cheese and spinach. His meal looked really small compared to my burrito, but he said that he liked it. CalTor has an array of awesome salsas and spicy sauces for your food. I put some mangy sauce on my burrito, and that joint was good. The sauce was only 10 calories per teaspoon, not that I'm counting calories or anything. The no meato burrito comes with sauteed vegetables, black beans, spinach, guacamole, white rice, and salsa. Why do people even eat brown rice?? I want my rice stripped of all of its nutritional content. Real Asians only eat white rice, and most White people that I know get brown rice. Seeing as how I am a contrarian, I got the white rice. It just tastes better. I had so many questions to ask the cashier, Amanda. Namely, I would like to know what is the least popular menu item, and where is the spinach from. I didn't want to mess up our vibe though because she greeted me very kindly. I can't wait until Olney opens a really good salad and sandwich spot around the way because when I think of fast food and a salad, I can only think of California Tortillas Mango salad. Not the healthiest, but its huge and hearty and their crispy chicken is just a combo of crisp and tenderness. I like that you can sample as many hot sauces as you want and their soda machine is awesome. I also love their queso and their guac. Not a fan of the fish tacos, (thats bc mine are delicious) LOL. My husband loves their burritos and when he gets what he wants, he tells me that he has a hard time deciding if Chipotle or CT's has better burritos, which is a compliment since we all love Chipotle! From having both Chipotle and Cafe Rio around the corner, this is a good option when you want a variety. I still dont get why there are soo many Mexican chains in this area t, but that is besides the point! I think that their monday night spin wheel is a gem, great marketing tool. For a Mexican fast food chain, I think this place is really great. I eat here whenever I visit my brother since we don't have them in Massachusetts. The burrito with jerk chicken is excellent. Pluses: fast service, great salsa, cheap and tasty. They also keep a wall of hot sauces that you can self serve and try as many as you want. They have a customer loyalty program that allows you to earn free food pretty quickly. No minuses except it has the typical sterile chain restaurant décor and atmosphere. read more

Everything is relevant. In terms of California Tortilla, this one is great. The staff is friendly and prompt, and the food is always what you expect, or possibly even better. The monday "Spin the Wheel" deal is pretty awesome. I've won free burritos on multiple occasions. One time the former manager gave me a free burrito and drink after they had closed. However, they keep trying to change to be more like Chipotle, creating a create it yourself section while taking all of my favorites slowly off of the menu. I miss the blackened chicken Caesar tacos and the bbq chicken quesadilla SO much. I guess you can order it in the create your own, but it slows down the entire service process and confuses the cashiers. My food tends to come out wrong. I used to be such a fan of this 'Cal-Tor' Olney speak for California Tortilla... When I was working in Olney I would get take out for lunch at least once a week and always the same thing the Crunchy BBQ Ranch Chicken Salad. SO good. It was about $6 and HUGE, feed me for lunch and dinner and was loaded with chicken, veggies and fresh romaine lettuce. Ordered it today for lunch for the first time in a couple years and I was super disappointed. The Romaine has been replaced with shredded iceberg 'taco' lettuce , the tomatoes are nonexistent, and the chicken 'strips' grilled chicken cut in strips have been replaced with a lot less cubed over salted shredded chicken. The salad is also now $7 something. I understand inflation, how it affects the price of gas just as much as a BBQ Ranch Chicken Salad. But, what I don't understand is the price going up and the quality going down. Sadly I don't think I will be venturing back, especially since I prefer Chipotle for my burrito the size of my head fix. The staff was great though very friendly, hence the three star review instead of two. Bottom line I think there are much better options for lunch in the area. read more

I came to this location yesterday (10/9), and i met a manager name Miriam who went the extra mile to make sure that we were taken care of. She was pleasant and very professional in her manners and had excellent customer service skills. She asked if everything was okay, and told me let her know if i needed anything else.
