Today is the 30th anniversary of Cal Tort and we came here for a very nice burrito and bowl lunch. The Classic burrito I had and the California Screamin bowl my partner had were both very good. Huge portion, food tasted fresh and the chicken was moist and not at all fatty or salty (which can be an issue at places that serve this type of food). The Staff preparing the food were efficient and friendly. We also got a small chips/salsa and two soft drinks. The burrito and bowl, as I said, were very good and filling. Even the tortilla wrap, which I've had at other places that were dried out and tasteless, was very good. The chips were nice and crunchy, but the portion of salsa that came with the chips was too small. I like the variety of hot sauces that are available here, but am partial to the Pappy's mild and hot sauces. The price point is a bit higher than a Chipotle and some other burrito/bowl places. We raised our family in this area, and over 20 years ago, we came to this location almost weekly for a couple of years with our kids for a Saturday lunch and enjoyed the food and ambience. Ww have great memories here. We left the area for a while and, coming back, I'm glad we stopped in today. The food was good, the place has been updated and is well lit. ( We had gone to the Rockville location a couple of times in the last two years and always left disappointed. The tortilla wrappers were meh, the food never seemed fresh and the store was dark and unwelcoming. I talked to the manager today at Potomac and he explained that Potomac is a company store and Rockville was a franchise. This place is a small Mom n pops version of Chipotle. I ordered a "power bow for $14.69" from the big menu on wall. You get to choose up to two proteins so I asked for shrimp. At the register lady asked for additional $4 for the shrimp. I kindly asked the reason for extra charge. I used to go to this location often. It's been awhile since I've been, but wanted to pickup carryout. I walked in and ordered and took about 10 minutes for my order. Probably cause the quesadillas take a bit more time. The restaurant itself only had a couple people in it, but the staff was busy packing up what I assume were call-in orders. Quality and portions of the food has gone down while prices seem to have gone up. Quesadilla was fine, but my turkey chili was watery and my honey lime chicken burrito bowl was just a scoop of rice with shredded lettuce and a few pieces of chicken on top. Chicken was dry and hard. I got a large chips and queso. Queso was fine, but the chips were stale. Disappointing cause the food used to be really good. It'll be awhile before I go back again. read more

The chicken bacon club used to be my favorite but now the rice has cilantro in it which is a huge dealbreaker for me . Checked in yesterday (Sunday) for lunch and ordered my usual Two beef soft tacos combo meal (always comes with drink) . Combos come with chips and side of queso or guac . I always get guac . The cashier this time was very nice and polite. I only waited 3-5minutes for my order to be ready. (There was only two women working at the time) The place was clean and smelled fresh although it looked like they were having some maintenance issues. The soft tacos always come with meat cheese and lettuce, anything extra you have to ask for it . I usually get pico de Gallo and sour cream as extras . Food is always fresh and I definitely crave for this place every now and then. Customer service is a hit or miss. I have been to and reviewed other California Tortillas locations, but I felt compelled to write a review for this locale because nobody mentioned their fish tacos. They are the best fast food choice, hands down! The only other fast food fish tacos that have my heart is Tackle Box in Georgetown. The 'burbs are more convenient and they are cheaper here (except on 1/2 priced Wednesdays at TB's). I ordered the platter which is two tacos, soda and a small queso and chips. According to Lea, their food is made so fresh now that they no longer have need for a freezer. I thoroughly enjoy stopping by there for lunch a few times each month. I've been here many times before and the food is decent, but if anything goes wrong with the order they are very gracious about fixing it. For example, today I forgot to specify that I wanted my order to go, but Miriam re-packaged it right up and even threw in extra chips and salsa.
