Everything was flavorful and the portion was filling. My son ordered the birria tacos, which came 3 to an order with your choice of rice and beans. I liked that they also offer cauliflower rice as an option, as well as your choice of pinto or black beans. The birria tacos didn't come with the traditional consommé, but instead were served with a red sauce that had a unique, smoky flavor. Service was good, and we were lucky enough to find street parking right out front, which made things easy. The ground beef is delicious and full of flavor, the grilled chicken is always well-seasoned and cooked just right, and the salads are packed with amazing flavors--not boring at all. I can't believe I've never posted a review of this hidden gem in Bethesda... been there so many times for happy hour for their yummy margaritas and food specials. Where to even start... my absolutely favorite is their carne asada. Not sure what magic is being sprinkled on the meat but it is so delicious. I think they cook it over wood fire so there is a smoky flavor that is so delightful. The chips and salsa are so good! They give you two different types of salsa, one cold and one warm. Decent Mexican food. We visited Guapo's Cocina & Bar on a Tuesday afternoon, and it was mostly empty. The first thing to catch your eye when you walk into the restaurant is the bar. Two huge televisions played the World Cup game in the back of the restaurant. The restaurant was decorated with flags of the participating teams and the sound system alternated between Latin music and the audio from the game. I tried the portobello enchiladas. Before the orders arrived, standard chips and salsa were served with plenty of each for the table. The enchiladas were decent with an average guacamole and bland rice and black beans. With delivery platforms unavailable due to hazardous road conditions, Guapo's was a lifesaver tonight! I stayed at The Bethesdan Hotel next door and walked right next door to pick up chicken quesadillas and an order of chips + salsa. The hostess immediately greeted me as I walked inside, and took my name to quickly retrieve my order. I was out and back to my hotel room in less than 5 minutes - I don't think takeout has ever made it from the kitchen to my stomach faster! The chicken quesadillas came with 6 pieces and a side of guacamole, pico de gallo, and sour cream. The chicken inside the quesadilla was pre-grilled, so it was slightly drier than usual, but still satisfying on this cold, snowy day. I ordered chips and salsa as an add-on and ended up with double the chips and salsa! I didn't realize they include them with takeout -- what a great surprise. I decided to check out this place after one of the workers was actively inviting hotel guest to check them out. It was conveniently located next tot he Bethesda hotel. I was quickly seated and the wait staff took my order. Chips and salsa was provided free of charge. The salsa was pretty tasty an the margarita was great as a nice addition. Nothing like a margarita along with your Mexican food. I ordered the Taco and Enchilada meal. The food was flavorful and there was plenty of food. The shells had a good texture and the meat was well seasoned. I excluded the refried beans and replaced them with the black beans. The food was great and the wait staff was attentive and friendly. We went to Guapos at RIO in Gaithersburg yesterday for a birthday dinner celebration and unfortunately had a very disappointing experience with the hostess service. When we arrived, we were told the wait would be 20 minutes, then later we were told 15 minutes. We remained right outside where the hostess could clearly see us the entire time. After 15 minutes passed, we checked back in because we noticed she continued seating other families, including one with the same number of people as our group. She seemed especially friendly with them, almost as if she knew them. When we asked again about our table, the hostess claimed she had texted us. We showed her that we had never received any message. While we were speaking with her, the manager came over. By that point, we had been waiting nearly two hours. The manager was very apologetic and showed us the reservation system. She explained that when guests are contacted, a box in the system is checked. The box next to our name had not been checked, which confirmed that no text had actually been sent. I explained that the hostess had not been truthful when she said she contacted us. The food was very good, the manager handled the situation professionally, and our waitress, was excellent. However, because of the poor hostess service, lack of communication, and what appears to be inadequate training, we will no longer be giving Guapos our business. read more

Guapo's has great lunch specials that I wasn't hip to until last week. The food is fresh, and they have some of the best tacos! The service was good and the place was super clean. I got the lunch taco special that comes with 2 tacos, rice and beans. I got one chicken taco and one steak taco. Super delicious! They also give you all the chips and salsa you can eat. Absolutely amazing! From the service to the food. This is hands down the best Mexican food I've had. The server was so attentive and excellent recommendations. While pricey, it was well worth it in my opinion. The food was flavorful and robust! You can't go wrong with the fajitas and fresh guacamole. I'm not a huge fan of chips and salsa. Our server was good, and attended to anything we needed. I ordered the combo fajitas, and they were pretty good, the queso is decent, and the skinny margaritas were just okay. For three reasons: (1) their chips had several that were chewy or uncooked (not expanded during frying); (2) their enchiladas were not comparable to typical offerings in other restaurants, (3) their saltado was super salty (did they add fish sauce?) and only had 2 pieces of squid (not octopus) and 3 mussels and 2 scallops, not good value for the price. I had raspberry and it wasn't too sweet (which is my preference), the quesadilla was big (probably around 6-8 pieces-- more than I expected!), and the tacos were well filled. Everything was tasty. I especially liked the chicken quesadilla and the al pastor taco. Service was friendly and prompt. We got our drinks and food within minutes of ordering, and staff checked in with us a lot to make sure we had everything we needed. Restaurant has a nice vibe.
