They have a huge selection. I was in the market for a walker with wheels. Range from about $100-900. The salesperson was very patient and helpful. I tried out different styles without any pressure. I did buy a cane. The salesperson measured me and set the cane up with a foot where the cane can stand by itself . There were an exhausting amount of colors and styles to choose from. Caligor is a pharmacy and medical supply store. It is a staple in NYC and I have purchased there on and off for many years. Five days ago, I purchased 2 pair of women's knee-high support stockings as requested by my doctor. I went to Caligor and, as advised,I bought 2 pair in the size and color I wanted. Really pleased with The stockings, I returned to Caligor 3 days later and bought 2 more pair that were to be identical to the first purchase. Once home, I saw that the 2 newest pair were not the same color nor length as my first purchase. They had not measured my leg nor my ankle either day. Today I returned to Caligor to tell them that I thought they were selling me what I had originally purchased and requested and, if they had another style/brand, they should have given me my choice. Today the sales associate told me that the first purchase did not come from their store as they do not carry that stocking. When I asked for the manager she said they do not have one. When I asked to speak with the owner I was told the owner never comes in. I said I would bring in my charge record from my credit card and was told that would not tell them specifically which stockings I bought. I said there must be a record of sale and what was sold. I was told that they do not specify the sale on their receipts. I felt like I was on Saturday Night Live! The original purchase did not come out of mid-air but instead from the sales associate who took them off a shelf in front of me. Caligor has certainly lost me as a customer and I suggest you think hard and long if you consider making a purchase there. The asylum is running the show! read more

Caligor Pharmacy has been here for as long as I can remember. I've never needed anything from here. My health insurance dictates where I can purchase my prescriptions. I always knew I should be familiar with this store in case I need special supplies or equipment as I age. Today I decided to go in to get a feel for doing business here. I was very pleased with the amount of merchandise offered here. Everything you could possibly need. The two employees greeted me and I felt free to take photos and look through the items price checking ones of interest. The original store opened in 1920. This is the only location now. I found a back scrubbing brush for only $2.97. Just what I need. They have about four styles of the inexpensive back scrubbers. I'm telling you this place can meet all your aging needs and your athletic injuries care! I'm glad I visited to become familiar with their merchandise. I am glad a business such as Caligor Pharmacy is able to stay in business as an independent pharmacy. There cannot be many left. My grand niece and her husband are both pharmacists. Their profession is beset with challenges. Even the big chains such as Duane Reade are facing consolidation. So they are rare, the old time drugstore that remains on its own. My wife and I have been here twice. It was for the same reason. We live nowhere near here. I'm over in Queens; she is 2500 miles away. But we have had dinner around here. Each time, we have arrived early, and we have stopped in to shop for a moment. At a small shop, I always plan to make a purchase when I set foot inside. That is only right. It happens, however, they have the best stock of neck braces we have ever seen. My wife had to have three discs fused. She has long term bone issues, due to two types of arthritis and lupus. The condition necessitates the wearing of a neck brace often. She likes specific brands for their fit. But you have to search for what she is looking for. These items also wear out and are discontinued. She was thrilled to see the selection here. They also had protective sheaths. In addition to what is conventionally available, this business had a few of those oddities such as European imports, throat lozenges and such. The staff were friendly. You don't find that at the big generic establishments. read more

This is the only pharmacy that carries my medication. And they carry everything you could ever need insofar as meds, supplies, I mean EVERYTHING. Everyone there is friendly and knowledgeable, and the pharmacist, Mitch, is a super nice guy, like a guy you want to know. He deals with the fluctuations of my insurance (I'll spare BCBS a review here) and really takes the time to talk and make me feel like he cares. I break and sprain things regularly so Caligor had been my go-to medical supply store for braces, wrist guards and even walking boots. Caligor has everything including a sock to put over a cast, and they are very accommodating and knowledgeable. But this time I needed surgery which resulted in a knee scooter, wheel chair, and arm crutches. Sticker shock to begin with! And they don't accept insurance. There's a $250 deposit for each piece of rental equipment, refundable on return, and monthly rates are high. After I committed, discovered I could have bought the same equipment on line, new for what a one-month fee costs for equipment that has not been "gently used." But Caligor's came assembled, I reasoned. So the first knee scooter steering bar was wobbly and after a lengthy phone debate, after all, all equipment is carefully inspected before it leaves the store, they retrieved it. This second scooter has a left wheel that doesn't quite touch the ground and spins. "Bring it back in and we'll look at it," I was told. If it were that easy, I wouldn't need it. Sending it back and forth in a taxi of course is an additional charge. I rarely need the wheel chair except to go out so I swapped out a standard chair for a lighter weight transport chair that everyone who tested it out after I said, it's impossible for it to have flat tires but it feels like ridding on squared off tires, try it and see. With mutual agreement from four people including my experienced aide, I called and after another lengthy discussion on how everything is carefully inspected, we dragged it back and exchanged it for the original chair that still has a bulky break problem. The crutches which you buy, not rent, were fitted to perfection. Moral of the story, Amazon will be my new vendor for mobile medical equipment. In the days when medical equipment stores accepted insurance, it made sense to rent. Now, buying is cheaper and easier to return if something goes wrong. UPS comes to the door when Caligor won't. I like Caligor, I like what they do best which is stock the array of accessories and provide the knowledge about what works best. But in the future, I'll leave the heavy lifting to Amazon. read more

I live right near Caligor but for many years avoided shopping there. After getting totally fed up with the big chain pharmacies I switched to a mail order pharmacy. I found the mail order very uncommunicative (I could not get in touch with them because the security all was impenetrable) I shifted my business to Caligor and boy, am I glad I did. It's like a small hometown drug store with a friendly staff and a VERY knowledgeable professionals. They might be marginally more expensive but I find the friendly small town feel well worth the trouble. I came in today because someone suggested that they would have a shower chair small enough to fit in a prewar stall shower and they did. they also had the appropriate walker for my mother in law in stock. I came to Caligor because I needed a Cam Walking boot as treatment for a torn tendon in my foot. I couldn't have been more pleased with the service and professionalism of the staff. I was seen right away by someone extremely knowledgeable in how to fit and adjust the boot. And I was given instructions in how to use it. Caligor handled all the paperwork with my insurance and I walked out without having to pay anything out of pocket. I have had my hands full wiith the pharmicist at this place. First they sent a non-prescription solution I did not order, and then the pharmicist, after blaming me for the mistake, refused to take back the unopened solution because "once somethng leaves the store we can't take it back because of the pharmacy laws". Then they sent out prescription drugs which I did not order, and when I called about this the pharmacisr was rude, unpleasant, and said he would take them back only if I brought them back myself. This time I called my insurance company and had them call him about this to be sure about a refund, and then I had to make a trip to take the items which I had never ordered back myself. I don't know if he broke the laws he cited as the reason for refusing to take back the solution, but his attitude in dealing with tis matter was abominable. I took the drugs back and transfered my prescriptions to another pharmacy in the area. Unless you enjoy this sort of headache I would strongly recommend not dealing with this pharmacy, and instead try the 90th Street Pharmacy (tel. (212) 289-9168w) where Andrea, my new pharamcist, has been helpful and very pleasant (see their positive only reviews on YELP). read more

A very nice place with everyone being friendly and knowledgeable! I need to buy a Karma ErgoLite 2 wheelchair. Karma told me this place as their dealer in the area. I live in New Jersey, and I called in advance to get all the details of the product. Stephen (from Caligor) also sent me pictures of Karma ErgoLite 2 and specifications by email. Today, before I left home for the store to purchase the item, Stephen actually went to his warehouse one block away to make sure that the wheelchair is actually in stock (no other big-box pharmacy would do this to make sure that the computer inventory is actually correct)! When I saw the Karma ErgoLite 2, both I was pleasantly surprised! It is very light and high quality. Our old wheelchair is 29 lbs without the footrest. This one is 19 lbs. I can lift up the entire wheelchair and put it in the trunk. The seat is much more comfortable than my old wheelchair (the best seating position I ever experienced)! I wanted to buy the wheelchair from a real store instead of on-line. Stephen at Caligor made the purchase a delightful experience. The high quality of the wheelchair made the drive from New Jersey totally worthwhile. Highly recommended. read more
