Stopped by Call Your Mother for a quick breakfast and overall enjoyed it. Their menu has some pretty unique bagel creations, and I decided to try the Hidden Cove. The combination of salmon, kimchi, and cucumbers worked surprisingly well together and reminded me a bit of the flavors you'd get from Korean banchan. The bagel itself was fresh and filling. There was plenty of outdoor seating available, which was nice, especially on a busy morning. The only downside was that it took a fair amount of time for our food to come out. Other than that, it was a solid breakfast spot with creative flavors that stand out from your typical bagel shop.
We came here twice during our most recent stay in Washington DC. We appreciated the variety of sandwiches and thoughtfulness in the prices that reflected increased/decreased toppings. We also really appreciated the friendly service and staff members we came across during our time there. The first day I ordered an everything bagel with veggies and cream cheese -- I took out the bacon and the price of the sandwich decreased by $3. The second time I ordered an egg and cheese everything bagel with avocado and latke. The latke was just okay and didn't add much to my sandwich. The everything bagels were really good as well with plenty of seasoning but I think they were a little tougher for our taste (a perfect bagel would be crispy on the outside and soft on the inside, but the inside was a little tough and the outside wasn't crispy). For a coffee, two bagels, tax and tip, we paid about $32, so they are a bit on the pricier side. But the staff are very kind to the community. The place gets super busy around 9 am, so we learned to just order online the next time and our food was ready within 15 minutes. Other people and us on the first day were waiting over 20 minutes otherwise for our food, which I know can be frustrating. Very popular bagel shop.
I love this breakfast place. I ordered a Caesar bagel sandwich because I missed breakfast but it was lunch time and OMG. I was not expecting this sandwich to taste this GOOD. I also ordered bacon which was extra but definitely worth it and it was crispy just how I like it. I wish they had a chain closer to the Baltimore area because they definitely have a client who would go all the time if they were closer. No worries every time I go to DC they will see me coming. I also ordered a hot chocolate. Service was wonderful, it's connected to a hotel so you can sit down and enjoy your meal if you like.
I've seen the lines spilling out from Call Your Mother for years and heard about their growth via pop ups in different neighborhoods. We made a trip to visit on an early Sunday morning (we wanted to avoid the lines). Upon entry we were met with pink pastel 80s like diner vibes. They offer an array of curated bagels with brunch options, coffee, juices and even latkes. We opted to try 2 (Moon River and Thunderbird) of the bagel breakfast-y options, seasonal lattes and the latkes. Everything came out in about 15 minutes. The bagels looked delicious and we split them up and gave it a go. Of the two the Moon River was our favorite because it had the most flavor. The thunderbird was very bland and quite frankly underwhelming. I was really looking forward to the latkes but when we opened the box there was no apple jam. When my partner went inside to ask for it they said we are out. I was really bummed and actually wouldn't have ordered the latkes if the jam wasn't available (I don't eat sour cream). Now the coffee ... the strawberry latte was less than desirable, the purée was chunky and came up my straw without the coffee. Overall I didn't love Call Your Mother and I would likely not return.
Went for Sunday breakfast after learning they have gluten free options! It's very packed with limited indoor seating. Ordering ahead online and enjoying at home is ideal for a weekend. The gluten free bagel was good, they seemed to understand allergies and cross contamination and I enjoyed mine! They have a bathroom, but you need to ask for a code, staff is friendly, but busy so it is a challenge to flag one down.
AMBIANCE: Chaotic. I go to church at NCC which is nearby so at this location, sunday mornings, they have always been insane. line out the door. the first time i wanted to come, i was like oh nawh, we not doing all that. But i made my bf wait this time around because i had recently gone to the old town location (much larger space, calmer environment) and i KNEW what wanted. SERVICE: We love a chaotic efficient environent. they have a well oiled machine and even though the line was out there door (really only because the spot itself is soo so small), it goes by fast. people know to have their orders ready to go. there was restroom access which was cool to see! typically in spaces THAT small, resturants don't offer that, so it was good to know. FOOD: FInally -- the thing that gave me the courage to see if the line was actually insane at this location: they have a sub YUCA BAGEL + pickled veggies and crunchy chicpeas and hummus as the protien. i try to avoid eating bread, so having the yuca bagel was the biggest flex. i believe the order is called the "hummus and avacado" under "lunch-y things". 1000/10. Would wait in line again.
If you haven't already noticed I like bagel sandwiches. Call Your Mother Deli did not disappoint. Located on the corner of Eighth Street SE and G Street SE its vibrant colors stand at attention. With a few bar stools to sit inside they also have outdoor bench's to enjoy your meal. Service is quick and friendly but the coffee and bagel sandwiches are the main attraction. Definitely will return to try other options.
I made an order for delivery on their website and it was quick and easy. The order was packaged nicely and traveled well. I got an iced coffee, half a dozen bagels, a sandwich, and egg salad. The egg salad has a really good flavor and large enough to last several days. I appreciate the drizzle of honey on the bacon sun city sandwich and will definitely order again.
On my recent trip to Washington, D.C. we stopped by Call Your Mother Deli for breakfast and it's definitely a must. We ordered two different sandwiches. I tried the one with the impossible sausage and was honestly surprised by how tasty it was. It had great flavor and didn't feel like you were missing anything by not having regular meat. My friend got the classic bacon, egg and cheese on an everything bagel and loved it just as much. The place itself has a really cool 90s nostalgia vibe that makes it feel fun and unique the moment you walk in. The ambiance alone makes the experience better. The service was also great. Since it was our first time the staff was very helpful when ordering and gave great suggestions which we really appreciated. If you're in DC and looking for a great breakfast spot this one is definitely worth the stop.
Is this the best bagel i've ever had? Yes...it definitely is. Several people have told me about this place and I kept forgetting to try it whenever I was in town. I consider myself a bagel connoisseur and have had them all across the country and this is probably my favorite one so far. I had the seasonal cheesy garlic bread bagel with plan shmear and it was actually unreal. It was soft but chewy and the flavor was out of this world. I will be thinking about this bagel forever. I also ordered an iced vanilla oat latte and it was delish (and cheap). Service was great-- not too much chitter chatter and awkward convo which some breakfast spots tend to do. The shop itself is also pretty cute but seating is limited in the inside. I went during the work day so it was fairly empty and comfortable inside. Absolutely obsessed with this place! Will be back every time I'm in D.C.
I've heard about this breakfast restaurant from a few different people, and they all said it was great. Today I just happened to be jogging in the area with a friend, so I came here after we finished They have a pretty decent selection of things to eat for breakfast, but I wanted to get something smaller for my stomach. They offer about 6 different bagel options, and I decided on the Sesame style bagel with strawberry swirl schmearz. My usual go-to is just the plain cream cheese schmearz but I wanted to see what kind of special flavors this place added. FYI there are options to also add protein to your bagel. This place is on the smaller side and they have some really cool benches out on their patio.
I have passed by CYM so many times and I've always wanted to stop by. I finally had a chance to try and I'm so glad I did. I went on a Thursday around 10 am. The inside was small but decorated in pretty pink and turquoise. There was minimal seating inside but they did have seating available in the patio area. The music playlist was good too ("Dilemma" by Nelly and Kelly was playing while I waited). The customer service was great and the gentleman working the register was really friendly. I ordered the Thunderbird and a chocolate chip cookie. The Bagelwich had a lot of great flavor and was bigger than I expected. The cookies are made fresh daily and it was easily one of the best cookies I've ever. I would absolutely go back. I should probably mention that since it was off peak hours when I went, it was easy to find a parking spot but parking is usually not easy in that area from my experience.
The Thunderbird is the best bagel sandwich Ive ever had. The combination of the maple bagel with the salty chicken sausage and spicy honey/jelly was perfect. It is a little messy with the spicy honey so make sure to grab some napkins. I ordered my bagel without american cheese and there was an upcharge for removing the cheese I went on a Monday at noon and there were only two people ahead of me ordering and a few waiting for their orders. It still took about 20mins to get the bagel so I think ordering ahead is the best option so it's ready when you arrive- especially on the weekends when there's a line out the door. There are a few seats inside and a couple of tables outside but they'll fill up quickly if it's nice out so plan on taking the bagel to go. read more
Sooooo good! My daughter did call her mother!!! She used to come here when she worked at the Hill for 8 years! She recommended call your mother and indeed, best bagel shop for sure! This location is near Capitol Hill & the Navy Yard! So clientele usually Capitol Hill folks and workers in the neighboring businesses, which includes the Navy Yard... Service was quick even with a line but during today's visit there was no line at all! Cool vibe bench seating along the wall. Pastel green & pink exude clean and happy! I definitely like this location better than the one in Georgetown! read more

They do not skimp on the spread or the other savory fillings they have on the menu. the bagel itself was also so warm and buttery. the only downside to this place is it is very small. there are only 2-3 tables. they have outdoor seating but it was raining so that wasn't an option. the wall was pretty cool! the cashier was supper kind too. i would come back to try their other options. read more

Finally made it here as the line wasn't crazy out the door. Good Barracks Row breakfast option for a quick meal. They have several picnic tables out front. I'd suggest an order ahead if you want to speed it up. I tried the Mountain View mostly for the mashed avocado. I switched to an everything bagel. It was a nice meal. The overall flavor could have used something to spice it up. Maybe next time I'll ask for something...maybe hot sauce? Gotta go everything bagel Give them a try. read more
2 words: go here. I have tried many bagel spots in the capitol south neighborhood and CYM still reigns supreme. This time I decided to switch up my regular bacon, egg and cheese and got the pastrami, egg and cheese and honestly it was probably one of the top 5 bagels I've ever had. For a little over $10 for just a bagel it is a little pricey but 100% worth it. I can see this place getting pretty busy so I recommend ordering online for pickup so you don't have to wait to dig in! The store is also a little smaller on the inside but they do have picnic tables outside so you can enjoy your yummy bagels. read more

We were in search of a quick lunch today. The line here was intimidating, but they are very organized and it moves faster than you'd think. The food and drinks were prepared quickly and we even snagged bar seating inside. We ordered the special spring menu blackberry iced tea, blackberry iced matcha, the strawberry white chocolate iced latte, the grandezza bagel sandwich, the hidden cove bagel sandwich and my favorite part was the strawberry white chocolate matcha cookie! Love bagels? Good coffee? Good ambiance? Then go to the call your mother. They describe themselves as a jew-ish deli and they offer a lot of great options. We ordered the royal palm and the Boca club. Both were amazing and very filling. The service was friendly and fast. They have a small area inside to eat as well as picnic tables outside to dine. My custom bagel from Call Your Mother was just the morning fuel needed before starting a home renovation project. I recommend placing your order online... they were pretty busy during my Saturday visit. I don't eat eggs or meat so the Impossible sausage was the prefect option. On a 10 rating scale, I give my custom sandwich a 7. All of the ingredients were fresh. Next time, I will skip the custom order and just get a bagel with spicy honey. read more
Call Your Mother Cap Hill has quick service and delicious food. Not to mention the decor is adorable. I couldn't help but notice the 1990's flip phones staring at me while I was paying for my order. I remembered my mom and what she used to say back then. Leesa, it's mom. Are you going to be home for dinner? What time do you get off from work? What a great name, location, and vibe. Expensive and bland tasting bagels. Staff were nice and they're cute stores and branding but both my friend and I didn't enjoy our bagels and didn't finish them. I got the Boca club on a Zaatar bagel and my friend got the impossible sun city on an everything. Even though the bagel was loaded with Zaatar seasoning, I felt like I couldn't really taste any of it and I ended up adding spicy mustard to my bagel to cut all of the salt and mayo from the bagel. read more

I was excited to check out Call Your Mother because my love for bagels grew after living in NY for a few years. I came in on a Sunday afternoon - to note this place can get pretty busy after 12/1pm. I would recommend coming early but the line does move pretty fast. As I scanned the menu, I loved that they made everything so clear and even had a visual for the types of bagels available. I thought that was a unique, creative touch! I ended up ordering the Sun City with bacon. I loved the spicy honey that was added to a classic bacon, egg and cheese. Overall I thought it tasted great! Don't think it compares to NY bagels but decent for DC. Also felt the price was pretty steep at $10.50 but still worth trying at least once. Also note their is limited seating indoors and a few picnic tables available outside if it's a nice day to sit and enjoy your bagel. read more
Came here late on a Sunday morning. I was able to order right away, but seating is super limited, definitely more of a grab and go place unless you come at an off time. The line picked up to order after I placed mine, so it's also possible you'll run into a more substantial wait time than I encountered Since I live in a relatively bagel starved city, I'll usually have my eye out when traveling for bagel spots that have something I'm not able to get back home. While the menu isn't huge, there were enough unique options that compelled me to visit on my trip to the area. I had a BYO sandwich with chicken sausage, candied salmon cream cheese, and eggs on a maple salt & pepper bagel. I really enjoyed the out of the ordinary flavor both the bagel and spread brought to the sandwich. The sweet maple went really well with the Smokey salmon. The maple overpowered the bit of sweetness from the spread, but you can definitely taste it if you have the cream cheese on its own With that said, the quality of the bagel was just okay. I feel like I'd have a significantly lesser experience if I went for a more traditional breakfast sandwich. There also aren't enough unusual options where I'd continue to be interested in making this a go to spot if I were in the area Overall, solid bagel spot that I think is worth giving a try for their number of unique offerings. Soooo being an NJ native, it gets a bit critical when it comes to sandwiches and challah! I can say they did a great job with my two sandwiches. I had the BLTA and added turkey. I was told the turkey was an upcharge but I didn't expect it to be ~$5. It's safe to say I won't be doing THAT again, ha! Beautiful sandwich though! The jalapeño-herb mayo is so good and compliments the 'cado with all its green-y goodness! Of course the bacon was noticeable, thick, and tasty. I had it with turkey so I can't say if it is enough to have it alone in the sandwich, but I have provided a photo. The challah did not disappoint. I've also had the big turkey, which I enjoyed but it wish had avocado involved. The cinny-crunch latte with oat milk is tasty, although there is nothing crunchy involved as the name suggests. I would suggest that they list how much additions to your order cost. This is especially relevant for common things such coffee/latte dairy substitutions. I also wish this location stayed open for at least 1 more hour into the afternoon. read more

such a great vibe. i knew i was where i needed to be after farmers market as justin timberlake played in the background && chris greeted us with such warming feels! a vibe for sunday! my chai late was good && && havent bit my sandwich but been wanting to get this place checked out so so glad i did. && gf scored a free book along with interest in a new author because of it ! winning!! sandwich was huge but bomb!! so glad they offered the impossible meat! apple muffin we got was good too (especially once rewarmed!) i also appreciated that because they were closing they gave away the remainder coffees to enjoy or to share w someone who may need it read more

So I love a good bagel, and when I saw this menu I knew I had to try it! Located in the cutest location with decent amount of outdoor seating, I tried the thunderbird and the Royal Palm. The Thunderbird was definitely my favorite and the spicy honey and maple and pepper bagel complimented each other so well. I'm an avocado girlies so I had to add one ofc. It was a messy eat, but I don't regret it! The Royal Palm was your typical lox sandwich with plenty of cream cheese to go around. I love the sandwiches here! So glad that this one is here so that I don't have to go all the way to northwest. I definitely say order ahead especially on weekends because it can be popping here. Depending on day and time parking can be a hassle. But sandwiches are always a hit. My oat milk matcha was perfect. I love this place. This place is so cute! And the food was delicious. They service was good and fast. I got the pizza bagel without pepperoni and in an everything bagel. Man was this awesome. It was super flavorful and the little burnt parts of the bagel added such a good flavor. 10 out 10 Hubs got the sun city bagel with back. on an everything. Don't forget to Call Your Mother! Yes, don't forget to check in with your mom, but also, don't forget to Call Your Mother when you're in D.C. It's the best bagel you'll have in the area. I've only visited Call Your Mother Deli on Capitol Hill, and it's always such a pleasant experience. Located in the Eastern Market neighborhood (not far from the Capitol), it's takeout only or eat-at-the-window-counter at this spot, along with some outdoor tables for when the weather fares better. Staff is friendly and nearby are other restaurants and shops. The menu features different bagel sandwiches, breakfast and lunch, or you can choose your own adventure with the different kinds of flavors here. I've had the sun city sandwich with pastrami and the mountain view. Both were fantastic. The sun city sandwich has egg, cheese, a spicy honey on an everything bagel, and I highly recommend you opt for the pastrami over the bacon. The pastrami was incredibly delicious! The mountain view bagel sandwich features smashed avocado, latke, eggs, cheese and spicy honey on a plain bagel. I love avocado and latkes, so this was a win-win situation. For a creamier bagel sandwich, this one is your jam. Every time I'm in the D.C. area, I know exactly where to go for bagels. This is the best around town, and you can see that from the lines that form. Order ahead if you don't want to wait, which many do here at this Capitol Hill location. Or you can check out the other locations throughout the D.C. area. read more

I was really excited to try this place. It had been on my list for years! I got the lox bagel which is my standard order at bagel shops. It was pretty good! I've tried better this year (I have eaten a lot of lox bagel sandwiches lol) but this one was good. I would go here again and try something else as well. I like the creative flavors here. My friend got a cheddar bagel with apple cream cheese which also sounded really good! read more

Stellar food which is both really creative and delicious! I also have to give a big shout out to a gentleman named Matt with a mustache who is a barista at the Capital Hill location. He's incredibly friendly, prompt, and high quality with his service. He represents the Call Your Mother brand and mission very well. We truly enjoy seeing him every weekend when we get bagels and he goes out of his way to say hi to us even though he doesn't know us. Thanks Matt!! read more
Call Your Mother is a bagel sandwich shop. The location I visited is on 8th street in Eastern Market DC. The building is colorful and whimsically decorated, with cellphones from different decades hanging on the wall as decoration. The service was good, and the ordering process was easy, with one line for placing orders and another for picking up. I thought my bagel was pretty bland and basic. I wasn't particularly impressed, but I think the deli is an okay option if you're in the area and craving bagels. read more

This is controversial - but I think Call Your Mother is mostly just "ok". It gets a lot of hype, and the line is often quite long, but truly the bagels and bagel sandwiches are just above acceptable when compared to NY or NJ bagels. For DC, Call Your Mother may be among the bagel leaders. The aesthetic is fun, the bagels are reliable, and there are locations all over the city. Though, I do think that they could do a better. Some areas for improvement: * Larger portions The bagels are thin, and don't come with much cream cheese/topping. Once, I paid extra for capers and it only had two actual capers on it. * Better community engagement While this isn't exactly the fault of the business, the customer base here is very wealthy, white, and often rude. I regularly pass this establishment and see customers treating unhoused community members poorly. It's an especially bad look, since two bagels and two coffees here are easily over $25 - That's high, even for DC. read more
