I have used Callahan Plumbing for years. I had always been satisfied. It was suggested by the tech that I replace my Watchdog back up system with a high quality one. I received the quote for a complete gel battery back up system for $1500. I asked about life of the system and battery and was told the battery should be replaced in about 5 years but the system would last a lifetime. After install, I was told the price was $2100! Questioning the difference, I was told the battery was not included. I would have never ever agreed to a $600 price increase. I looked up the system on line and I could have gotten it for a third of the price. I will never use Callahan Plumbing again. read more

We bought a new refrigerator that needed a new water line put in so the ice maker would work. The refrigerator was coming in the 2 weeks when we first called them. Callahan plumbing canceled the day before they were supposed to come for a more important problem. No problem as I understood. A week later they come to put in a new water line and show up 20 minutes late. They give me a quote on how much it's supposed to be and a range saying it's between $200 and $400 because of how much work they think it's going to be. I didn't understand at the time so I said ok and thought they would explain it in the receipt for what I am being charged. They finish the job in less than 40 minutes handing me a receipt that says $500 with no explanation of what I'm being charged for. My partner gets home later that day and is outraged for what happened. He calls back to have them explain the outrageous price they they charged us. They immediately get defensive by saying that they have been in business for over 35 years and that's what they think they should have charged us for the amount of work they put in after lying and saying that was over two hours of labor. Callahan than goes on by saying that my partner already gave them a check and that there was nothing he can do about it even if they overcharged us. And hung the phone up on him. All together for putting in a new water line for a fridge should have only cost us between $75-$200 for a pro to install. The plumber was finished in less than an hour and the parts cost less than $40. They didn't try to defend the price or explain to us what we were being charged for. They said it's too bad and we should have said no to their services. Being charged for a job that should have been half the cost is completely unreasonable and they shouldn't be taking advantage and scamming others who might not know what the situation is. Called this company for a backflow test, paid $75 for the test, and we didn't pass because we had a bad part. They wanted $750 to replace and install the part- outrageous! We found the part ourselves and bought and installed it for $250- 1/3 the price they were asking! Called Callahan back to see if we could get another backflow test (our village requires it)- they were so rude- almost angry- because we didn't get the part from them. Basically, said she doesn't care if they get a bad review- so here it is! Would give them zero stars but Yelp won't allow it read more

I called Callahan Plumbing when my sewer backed up Dan and his crew came out same day to fix the problem. Dan said my sewer was clogged with tree roots and he ended up pulling out a lot of them. The service was a fair price. They did a great job cleaning up too. read more

After a sump pump system scare during an overnight rainstorm, I called Callahan Plumbing to come out. The woman on the phone who set up the appointment was really helpful, finding out what was going on, what we'd tried and making sure I didn't have an active flood on our hands. Dan Callahan and Mike were at my home the morning after I called, to check everything out. I was lucky. I only needed a couple of check valves replaced, and the guys got the work done quickly and neatly. While they were here, they answered a couple questions I had about the sump (and some unrelated plumbing concerns around the house) and were just really all-around knowledgeable and pleasant guys. Before starting the actual work, Dan explained the repairs they were going to do and what it was going to cost us. He even pointed out a couple of things that he thought I might want to consider down the road to make my system more functional, but no one tried to sell me into a new pump system or any equipment upgrades that we didn't need. If you ever felt like "I wish I had a neighbor that was plumber so he could help me with..." I'm telling you, Dan and Mike at Callahan Plumbing are exactly those guys. read more
