I wasn't wowed by the food. I wanted to be but I wasn't. We ordered the trio dip and chips. The guacamole and salsa were very good- the queso lacked flavor and was not heated enough to easy to "dip". I ordered the fried chicken flour tortillas with a side of black beans and rice. All of the items- while not overly adventurous choices, were very very bland. I can only think that the kitchen inferred a 3 year old was going to dine on the meal. The food was beautiful and there was a lot of technique in the cooking. It just lacked flavor. I came to this establishment twice before leaving a review. During my initial visit, I sat at the bar and ordered the crab empanadas, which were over cooked, & a spicy margarita, which was too strong. The bar tender was not as engaging despite no one else sitting there. During my second visit, I ordered the duck breast, which was somewhat bland despite the red onion garnish, and the service was lack luster yet again. Based on observation, most of the staff seem to be more interactive amongst themselves than with customers. In all, the food was not impressive & lacked flavor, and the service leaves much to be desired. read more

I really enjoyed Calle Latina. I sat at the bar. Jude (the bartender) was polite, professional, and engaging. He makes great blood orange margaritas (FYI- you can add CBD to it for a small price. Jude recommended the ancho chili glazed pork belly and it was delicious. I also tried the lump crab empanadas which was great as well. I apologize about the picture of the black beans and rice. I would never ordinarily take a bite of something then take a picture of it. I honestly thought it was going to be so bland because it looks like plain Uncle Ben's Rice. I've been twice: my first trip with a friend was so delightful that when I got a new job offer, I picked this restaurant for an impromptu celebration dinner with my husband. Each time I have been here, I have been happy to see the place is comfortably busy with a cross-section of locals like ourselves. (We can walk here.) The restaurant offers an inventive menu that is executed with care and attention to detail with fresh ingredients, including gorgeous vegetables. It's a treat, and well-priced for the quality and atmosphere, which is relaxing, not too noisy, and allows for privacy. The restaurant also offers drink specials during the week, which we look forward to checking out in the future. We started our meal with an order of Acevichado Rolls from the Ceviche section of the menu - all of the options are inventive and sound delicious. We were very happy with our choice, but I feel confident they are all good. The ahi tuna was fresh, and perfectly complemented by the sauce and Serrano pepper. (See photo!) For the second time, I ordered the Brazilian Pincho with portobello mushrooms - it came out sizzling in a cast iron skillet. This is hands-down one of my favorite, if not my favorite meals in a restaurant over the past 12 months. All the vegetables are spiced to perfection and the mushrooms are meaty and juicy. The polenta is served in cubes, crispy on the outside. The chimmichuri is exactly the right condiment. My husband ordered the Calle Fish Tacos and he loved them. He was impressed that the tacos used a generous portion of fish, which was perfectly cooked. The black beans and rice were also good. I had a jalapeño margarita with a tajin rim and I was in heaven. It reminded me of a cocktail I had in Kingston, NY that I still dream about, so you can imagine how happy I was to find its twin. read more

I had the plantains with cinnamon drizzle, so good, the ceviche, the wild blueberry mock tail! So good, the yuca fries, and best of all, the breakfast empanada! Let me tell you, the soft flaky crust, the texture, absolutely delicious. Mines was to have chicken, it was only egg and cheese with unions and I little mushroom I think, so I was mad about that, but it was so good hot and fresh, I enjoyed it all the same. I pass Calle Latina often and decided to stop in at their new location for a bite to eat and I'm glad I did. I stopped by on a Saturday afternoon and there were only a few other patrons in the restaurant so the service was very attentive and relaxed. I didn't feel rushed at all, which I loved and Frederick was super helpful in guiding me to a delicious selection. I love ceviche so I decided to go with the mango mixto ceviche and it was perfect. The flavors merged really well and it was just enough food to feel satisfied. I also ordered a caprinia, which you can never go wrong with a caprinia. They also have other daily drink specials. Another thing I appreciate is the location, it's much more accessible than the previous location and feels a bit roomier. Ambiance was really great, loved the indoor/outdoor patio feel of this place. The online menu is different from the actual one; they need to update the website. We started with chips that came with salsa, queso, and guac. For me a bit disappointing as the salsa is really mild and the cheese is meh, but both ladies loved the guacamole. It needed some lime juice squeezed over. My beef tacos were huge, and I took one home. I don't think they had any resemblance to an actual street taco, but were tasty. I needed a bit of hot sauce added. My wife had the fried green tomatoes, which is a perennial favorite of hers, and daughter had an empenada of some sort. With two beers, the bill with tax and tip was $85. General consensus was 4*. We didn't have a reservation and requested outside seating. However, we were told the outside area was reserved for an event. On a nice day, outside seating is always our preference. I mentioned the mix-up to our server but didn't make a big deal out of it. We reviewed the drink menu and ordered the Sweetwater Lager, which our server suggested, and Wifey ordered the same. We thought we were tasting something new, but It turned out to be the Sweetwater 420 Pale Ale that we'd tasted before. We reviewed the food options and made our decision. Wifey went for the Lombo, described as Brazilian pork tenderloin with a side of plantains. I opted for the Fried Adobo Chicken, which came with mashed potatoes and mixed vegetables. While waiting for our food, we noticed the great overall design and ambiance of the restaurant, with vibrant colors and original art everywhere. The food came out pretty quickly and looked delicious. We started to dig in, and the food did not disappoint. I loved my fried chicken meal, and Wifey just said, "Wow Wow" about her pork tenderloin. This is a little spot next to the train station and a store but it has a small patio (dog friendly) and a small but really cute inside. The customer service was great, our waiter made sure to bring our pup water, check on us and tell us a little about the menu. What fell short was the flavors of the dishes... we had the garlic shrimp mofongo which tasted like they just poured a bunch of sofrito... which is a sauce that usually combines onions, garlic, peppers, herbs and tomato paste. Which is used in Spanish recipes but a little goes a lot and the flavors were overwhelming in this particular dish. I would of liked more of a garlic sauce since was suppose to be garlic shrimp. The tostones were good but the pineapple slaw that was added to the side tasted like it went bad, it had a weird acidity. The tostones were really thin so they were just a bit crispy. Visited on a Friday afternoon with my father for lunch. This was my first time at their new location and it is much more spacious and vibrant than their old location. We were seated immediately with menus, which seemed to have more options but I can't be certain. After a minute or so the waitress came over for our drink order and asked if we had any questions. We ordered waters and my father asked for a little clarity on a couple items. We ordered the Negro empanadas as our app and continued to look over the menu. We were brought waters and we ordered our meals. We both ordered the Calle Fish Tacos, him with corn, me with flour. Empanadas were brought out shortly after. Great presentation and tasty. It came with this green sauce and a small salad which was a nice complement. We both enjoyed. Our appetizer plates were removed and the tacos came next then the side of rice and beans. Once again, beautiful presentation. The mahi mahi was moist and chunky which made for a nice bite each time. Rice and beans could've used a little more flavor. It was cool. Nothing extraordinary. I ordered empanadas, one beef, one chicken and the yuka fries. The beef empanada was bland, just a ground beef flavor. The chicken empanadas was better and paired well with the green sauce. I did enjoy the light salad that came with it - spinach mix topped with mango. It was a nice green side. I ordered the house sangria - it was filled with apples, but overall a weak drink. The Yuka fries were plain and flavorless. The place further down with a similar menu is a lot better. Service: Every time I have gone there the service has been good. They are always thoughtful as to whether you need something and do not rush you like some places do, something I always appreciate. It's important to recognize that it's a small place with few servers, so it may not be the best place to go if you're looking for something fast in and out. Food: I have sincerely never had anything that's not good at this restaurant. The seasoning is very good on the food, and the medley of flavors that they uniquely merge is delicious. We ordered the plantain with pineapple + cheese appetizer, which was interesting because my friend does not like plantains typically but said they would eat them any day if they always tasted like that! This pandemic has gotten to my writing a review in a timely manner. This was supposed to be my birthday lunch back in late May. Yeah. It's time to start writing this review like yesterday... We shared the ceviche del Peru. It was in an x-small, thin container as this was to-go. The mahi mahi was pretty tasty, but pricey for the portion. You get one medium-sized tostone with this. I had the la de pernil arepas which was phenomenal. This is pretty much the more unique dish than the burritos, tacos, or tortas. It in contrast had a lot more moisture and liquids spilling out. So needless to say, it was a rather messy, but oh so good, dish to try. The side salad was nice with the green colors. We didn't appreciate the beans and rice up charge. And of course we didn't even specify wanting it in the first place when we placed the phone order. And yet, we received 2 portions of the beans and rice. Though the rice was good with beans being so so, this minor way of making an extra few dollars in my book isn't cool. The hubs had a burrito of some sorts. It was good, but it tasted dry. He seriously cannot remember what it's formally called on the menu, but it was probably a beef burrito. I would say this was a solid 3 stars as it is a little different being pressed. And as such, it was a tad drier. I would have liked it better if there was more sauce infused within the burrito to balance out the moisture. But, the side salad helped balance out the dryness. Parking in downtown Decatur can be a challenge, but remember street parking is free after 6 PM and on Sundays. There is a public lot a couple of blocks from this place that you pay at a central booth if you choose to stay in this area longer. Please check the current regulations before going to ensure you are informed of the most current parking situation if anything has changed during the pandemic. Overall, the arepas was delectable and worthwhile. The burrito was so so. Coupled with the not so nice extra beans and rice up charge and overall price point for the food (which was like $50 for lunch), I'd say this place is a solid 3 stars for our to-go experience. read more

I wanted to try to find something I liked about this place, but my friends and I left pretty disappointed with our food. We tried various dishes and it was so bad we couldn't bring ourselves to finish off all the food. Overall the flavor was lacking in everything and I also noticed their 73 health score on my way out. - Plain queso. Pretty standard, but probably the only thing we actually finished eating. We had to get another round of chips to finish off the queso. - Yuca Frita side- Super super dry. I was really disappointed since one of our friends never tried yuca before and she will probably forever associate it with this dish. Dipping sauce was just OK. - Empanadas- we mixed and matched 1 De Carne (ground beef, green olives, spices) and 1 Pollo Verde (pulled chicken, chorizo, green mole) since an order came with 2. They were also pretty dry. The sauce was good but couldn't save the empanadas. - De Camaron tacos (crispy shrimp, farm greems, mango salsa, cilantro crema)- order comes with 2. I would say these were OK, but definitely could have been more flavorful. The dish comes with rice and beans, and honestly, that was probably the most decent thing we had all night. Came with my partner and parents for a dinner. The restaurant itself was very quant and very cute. Dark lighting, polished wood tables. The pictures scared us a little, but the inside was beautiful. The wine selection is pretty limited, most coming from South America, but good cocktail and beer selection. A lot of the food seems inspired by a multitude of Latin/Caribbean countries. We had beef & chicken empanadas, yuca fritas & guacamole, all super good. Brazilian pinchos were also a hit, but the camarón & mofongo were a bit of a miss. We had Jude as a server. The colorful signage lets you know that you're in for a treat. The menu is fairly expansive for a small eatery, so much so that it's hard to narrow down. My companion and I shared lobster empanadas, chicken and corn tenders, and the Cuban sandwich. Each bite was better than the one before . We ordered ab appetizer of guac to share & mind you, it is $11. When the appetizer arrived, I was HIGHLY shocked to see not even a whole avocado used! It was a slap in the face to charge someone that much for guac when you can go to a nice Mexican restaurant & get chunky avocado for the same price & feed at least 4 people with it!!! Next up we got yuca fries to split & they were the most disappointing, flavorless ones I've ever had in my life. 0/10 would recommend. Next I split some empanadas with my partner & again, the flavor was not there, at all. It said it came with black beans, peppers & cheese & all you could taste were beans. The very small salad that came with it was good. Our friend ordered soup that came with straight up white bread which was odd. She agreed everything was flavorless & NOT worth what we paid for it. Stopped by Wednesday afternoon at an odd hour for a late lunch (3 or 4ish) I had skipped lunch and needed something light and filling. Grabbed the ceviche de Peru and it was perfect. Plenty of fish, and fresh lime and cilantro flavor. Not heavy in mayo or tiny diced pieces of seafood like other ceviche options. Fish was cut into larger slices. White sangria was good. Server said it was the less sweet of the options (white or red) and it was still pretty sweet, so the red is probably very very sweet. Service was a little slower but nothing to complain about as I wasn't in a rush. I would definitely let the server know if you are on a limited lunch break though. While taking a photo walk through Downtown Decatur, I found Calle Latina. Upon entering, I was greeted by Jude, who was friendly and helped me with the menu. I decided to sit outside and ordered 'De Camaron' (Crispy shrimp, farm greens, mango salsa and cilantro crema. Served with black beans and rice) and a Sweetwater Draft Beer. The wait time was minimal and Jude also provided water during my brief wait. I really liked the relaxed vibe here. My food soon arrived and it was perfect.
