I love this place. I'm here weekly. From their fried wings, oxtails, Smokey Turkey wings, fried fish & shrimp. I be eating. It's a hole in the wall but worth every bite. So we avoided this restaurant for almost a year because quite frankly there was never anyone in the parking lot. You'd see the occasional drive up customer but that was it. Fast forward to the one day nothing sounded good for lunch and I go to Callihans. I'm so glad I did! Now if you don't call in ahead of time expect a 20-30 minute wait for your take away meal, but it's so worth it. I had a smothered pork chop over rice with gravy, stewed cabbage and mustard greens. This is one of my favorite places to get food! The owner is a FANTASTIC cook! I love the blackened catfish and shrimp! The crawfish etouffee and fried catfish are to die for! They have Soulfood daily specials like smothered pork chops, smothered okra, smothered rib tips, hamburger steak, catfish Acadiana and oxtails! Their Bourbon wings are very good! Callihans has some of the best burgers in Baker/North Baton Rouge, but I haven't ordered from them in awhile due to the inconsistent customer service. Some days you will have great service and other days no so great. But I promise their cheeseburgers won't disappoint you. Also, their prices are great for southern/soul food. read more

Perhaps the only thing worse than not having crawfish at all is having crawfish that is mediocre.... Callahan's is a place I been wanting to try for sometime but looking at their mediocre food pics in yelp I kept telling my myself maybe I will do a visit in the near future. Well, the future was today. Louisianan's love boil crawfish and I am no different. Today I saw a sign posted at Callahan saying hot boiled crawfish and that was my motivation to visit. Everyone who boil crawfish have their own special brew and I am always looking for a new place to add to my favorite food places. They charge $3.99 a pound. To be on the safe side I only purchased a pound. Upon eating my first crawfish my taste buds immediately pick up a slight sweetness followed by a noticeable imbalance of the salt/sugar ratio. They also lacked beautiful spiciness that's common with boiled crawfish. Don't get me wrong they were very tasty however the flavor profile is like a gumbo and/or crawfish stew without a gravy but more like they were cooked in a flavorful soup broth. My mind was saying where's the gravy, rice, Tabasco and potato salad? I felt as if I was eating very flavorful and good brothy soup with crawfish . All the tastiness was there but they lacked that native Louisiana boiled crawfish taste. Callahan in my opinion need to tweak their recipe by balancing flavors that doesn't make their crawfish taste like a soup/stew, tone down the sugar and balance the sugar/salt ratio and for goodness sake add pepper to amp up the spiciness. Hopefully they read their reviews and turn negatives into positives because those crawfish were sooo very flavorful and if they tweak the recipe they will give their competitors hell. I give them 3 stars for the flavorful stew/soup taste. Will this place be added to my frequently visited establishment? Only if they leave me a message in this review that they tweaked their recipe. I work right around the corner and thought I would try something different for lunch on an optional Saturday work day. The pictures and menu seemed enticing, but I was mistaken. I tried calling in my order as I was leaving work, I hung up after being on hold for 6 minutes as I was pulling into their parking lot, so that saved me no time. I then went in to order from a foul-faced, rude cashier who I felt like I was bothering just by even being in the restaurant. I ordered at 1122, I left the restaurant at 1159. There was one customer in front of me as well. No rush, no drive thru traffic, just a lack of care and no urgency. They receive 2 stars solely because the food was decent. Won't be back until they get a staff who cares. Might as well make the drive to BR or Zachary for food instead. read more

I feel like they could have done way better than what they gave me today. I've heard very good things about this restaurant but I was so disappointed with what I got. My burger was not very tasty and my fries where stale. They also took a very long time to fix my food but I figured they may have been short staffed. I'm willing to give them the benefit of the doubt and say today could have been a bad day, I will return and order something else so i can get I can get a real feel of the restaurant. read more
