Camarillo Car Care Center is an excellent auto repair shop located on the corner of Lewis Road and Daily Drive near the Camarillo Amtrak/Metrolink Station. I have been going there for my car care needs for over 20 years. They offer great service and their staff is very friendly and they're great at explaining very technical issues. They also offer a free shuttle service if you need a ride, although it isn't always available, particularly late in the day. And also please note they are not open on weekends. One thing to keep in mind is the old saying "you get what you pay for" is very true here. On one hand, they are a bit on the expensive side. So, if you just need an oil change you can find another place that can do it for a lower price. However, if you have a serious issue with your car I can't think of a better place to take it. I've found their work is really good so it works out in the long run since you won't have to take your car back multiple times. Plus, you can get an oil change too if you need one. Let me preface this review by saying the 4 stars is strictly for how amazing the staff were. Everyone I spoke to were extremely nice, knowledgeable, and knew what they were talking about. Everyone knows if you take you car to a dealership for service, it will be very expensive for the most part. I needed to get all rotors and brake pads for my 2019 Odyssey and I'm not really wanting to do that kind of work myself anymore so I took the car here for an estimate. Roughly an hour later, I get a text with a bunch of stuff they recommended fixing which is fine but really not needed. However, the price for the brakes with labor was almost 80% more expensive than the dealership. They probably do amazing work but I can price all of the parts out and install myself for less than a third the cost. All in all, I'll likely start doing the work myself because these prices are unreasonable and for someone that doesn't know any better, they are simply being taken advantage of. read more

My Mom is almost 80 and lives alone in Leisure Village in town, too far away for me (retired 40 year auto tech 25 as Euro specialist shop owner) to help with her car. She needed an oil change and made the mistake of telling them she wants to do everything necessary "to feel safe" on a 170 mile road trip to a family holiday gathering. They gave her a ride home and were very friendly and nice to her. Proceeded to charge almost $1000 by adding on unnecessary services like induction cleaning and brake fluid flush. This is all "gravy work" meaning profitable, can be done by a C level tech, and not much can go wrong including being able to even tell afterward if the work was actually performed at all. Told her there was NO WAY to fix the tire pressure monitor system without replacing all 4 sensors for around $800 which is true IF your shop doesn't have the tool to test them. Told her the cabin filter and air filter needed changing; I had looked at the air filter not long before and it was fine! Gave a very uncompetitively high quote to fix a benign check engine light issue later. Looks like they treat Leisure World residents as easy marks, which is despicable. My motto in this business always was, "There's enough HONEST work out there, no need to ever sell a customer anything their car doesn't actually need!" Protip: If you believe an auto shop did something wrong or unethical, especially charging a higher amount than what you approved in advance, don't bother with the BBB. Save all your paperwork (and old parts if possible) and file a complaint with the State Bureau of Automotive Repair. As for the review with a picture of used brake parts, the front pads in the back of the picture are not even 20% worn! ONE TIME my mechanics (not on commission) recommended brakes that it turned out were only 70% worn (like the ones in the front of the picture), probably an honest mistake as on that model they were hard to see clearly until disassembly. I told my whole crew I NEVER wanted to find brake pads with this much life on my shop floor ever again, and we spent some time that day going over better inspection procedures and standards. read more

I had a flat tire told I can bring it in for a tire repair. Omar the salesman tells me when I arrive I need a new tire. I say no let's do a tire repair telling him I know he's trying to upsell he then refuses to provide service and I call for triple AAA who repairs my tire in front of their shop in 2 minutes of arriving. Because my tires aren't cracked and the hole was in the best place manageable. No inspection was committed and he didn't want to fill the tire to see where the air was coming out of. read more

I would give less than one star if I could. This place took advantage of my elderly mother. She went to this garage due to her mechanic being out of town. They told her she needed all new brake pads and rotors. It seemed odd but she trusted them. I asked her to ask to keep the parts. My car was having issues starting and it was conveyed to me, by different mechanics, that it was either a bad battery (which I had just replaced a week previously) or the alternator. When I called Camarillo Car Care, Dan made sure to take down all the information I had been given and worked diligently to find the actual problem. Upon several tests, Dan and his team came to the conclusion that it was simply a matter of corroded battery connectors and not the battery or alternator. Do not go here. The owner here is condescending and talks to you as if your business doesn't mean anything to him. He gets by through bashing other local shops instead of standing by his work. It doesn't matter how much work you plan to get done, he claims he "doesn't need your business". I've never talked to a shop that didn't care about incoming business and makes statements like "this job isn't profitable anyway". Although they may get good reviews here and there it is not worth giving them your business. I am not one to leave a review but they left a bad taste in my mouth. Towed to my car to Mountain View Tire but they don't fix Trans. Towed it to Camarillo Car Care because they said they fix Trans and had good reviews on THEIR website. Gave them error code Mountain View gave me for FREE which is standard. Camarillo Car Care charged $140 to tell me same thing! They gave me same error code back & told me $4100 + tax to repair Trans that they don't even do themselves. They farm it out to another shop. NO WONDER they charge a huge assessment fee and don't even apply that if you choose to repair. Dan should have NEVER told me yea tow it over when they don't know ANYTHING about Transmissions. My van broke down and was borderline inoperable. I got it to their shop 10 minutes before closing on Thursday and desperately needed it back before the weekend which I knew was a stretch and they were able to get me up and running again by Friday afternoon. I felt like I was in good hands the whole time. I also came back days later with issues regarding my radio and horn and they found it was a blown fuse and replaced it free of charge. This place gets 1 star because Johnny was polite. Brought my vehicle in for a check engine light and service traction control light, they ran diagnostics check and replaced all spark plugs and cables and said there is a cylinder with misfire and that's the reason for the traction control light. They cleared all the codes and I paid $1,152.50 to get my vehicle back, when I drove it home all the lights came back on and vehicle feels the same. Not satisfied at all with the service and I feel ripped off because they didn't fix anything. Would NOT recommend this place. read more

I've brought our car here twice. The first time was a relatively major repair, but I feel that they charged us multiples of what it cost them. The per hour service charge also is astronomical (guess the repair guys are making bank). The second time was for a much less major repair, only moderately marked up. Great staff and mechanics, The owner of the company was very nice and they did great work on my vehicle, the mechanic shop next-door to them "Bergins Automotive" now known as "Matas automotive and trans" worked on my vehicle initially for a transmission & clutch repair but they just broke my vehicle even more and stole my money closed down their shop for about a month so I could not contact them or get my vehicle worked on or my money back then they reopened with a new business name, very sketchy people and I really wish I would have just taken my vehicle here in the first place! they fixed my car and now it runs great I should have just taken my vehicle here in the first place like I said be aware do not go to the mechanics that are next to them though! They treat you like you're stupid and don't know what you're talking about even if you know something about cars. They are also incredibly inflexible, I can't believe AAA recommended them. This garage charges higher prices than many other places in the county. They had my truck for 7 days...and it was really a one or two day repair. Ordering the wrong parts originally...complicated the process. "Dan" was my contact, and he was a good communicator and he knows the business. When I arrived I was greeted by both of the staff. Omar told me what they would be doing with the car and how the data would be transmitted to the DMV. He made the experience easy. After that, he took me to the waiting area. Very nice. Cushy chairs, tv, refreshments, and a restroom. Then the work was completed; I was in and out in about a half hour.
