Blood stain on bed sheets! At Cambria Hotel in West Orange NJ

Let me start by saying I'm by far the most understanding and easy going person there is, I understand that business can only do so much especially the hospitality industry it's one if not the only industry that has to deal with the most headaches, especially since us the "consumers" at times can be a handful. But when I decided to stay at the Cambria in west orange I did not expect to experience what I experienced. Now let me be clear I've stayed at this hotel once before and the experience wasn't to bad the noise level is a little out of hand sometimes but again they can't control me very single guest that comes through those doors. What they can control is how the property is properly managed and or maintained. The front desk staff from my experience were nice people just doing their jobs, not a hard task to check guest in and out of rooms and run the day to day operations. Now the rooms on the other hand, not sure who is in control of that but management along with corporate (choice hospitality) need to rectify an issue that SHOULD NEVER HAPPEN!! Especially when a guest is investing their hard earn money into a place where they feel safe, comfortable, and secure. To have that experience comes with cleanliness, privacy measures etc.. Upon my stay at Cambria in West Orange I was given a room which when I walked in around 1am (arrived late) had a strange odor which honestly I didn't mind it wasn't to the point that it was unbearable and I was exhausted as it is so, The odor wasn't to bad, now on the other hand the shower curtain had hair on it (mind you I'm bald) no hair from me. The rugs had balls of hair literally everywhere (I was picking it up with a mini laundry bag they had in the room at 1am!) The blinds in the room had no cords in which they wouldn't go down since there was no cords to adjust the blinds complete exposer to outside, I had to make sure my valuables weren't seen incase someone may try to break into my room. In which I had to remove the bed sheet cover to cover the window so no one can see inside The bed was by far the worse part of it all. When I pulled back the comforter and sheets to lay down, I noticed there was a huge blood stain on the sheets. That's when I realized someone had to rectify this issue immediately, I went to the front desk and no one was there, I looked around for a while didn't see anyone come, I went back into my room decided to sleep on the couch laid some towels down. At that point I just wanted to leave but I was so exhausted I stayed, I woke up early went to the front desk I showed them everything that I recorded with my phone, and all they had to say was "wow sorry what was the room number" REALLY!? Wow sorry what was the room number!? I will never stay at any hotels owned by Choice hospitality STAY AWAY FROM THIS PLACE!! Not worth the stay there's way better hotels in the area to stay.

Pros: 1. The rooms are quite large. The 2 queen configuration also has a sofa, so there is plenty of space to spread out if you need it! 2. The fitness center is small, but has all the basic things you need - a few cardio machines and a full set of dumbells and kettlebells. 3. The lobby's cute Cons: 1. The microwave in my room didn't work. The fridge also didn't work - it didn't get cool. I called the front reception to ask if there was an alternative and was told maintenance would be in later to check them out, but he never came. Not sure if he didn't come to the hotel that day OR they forgot about the request. 2. There were stains of some kind on the couch in my room. (pictured) Not sure if they're bleach stains or some type of dirt stain, but...i didn't sit on the couch. 3. While we knew that housekeeping was limited because of COVID-19 policies, but the amount of front desk calls and trying to "catch" housekeeping it took to get some towels is insane. We understand that it was a holiday weekend, but we would have appreciated someone telling us that we wouldn't get new towels before a separate "trash and used towels" part of the housekeeping staff took our other towels. So we were without any towels and the front desk representative was especially rude about it. My sister was told to "take some accountability since they were short-staffed". Either I've learned the wrong definition of that word or it's been redefined, but removing towels from guest rooms and not providing other towels or not having housekeeping carts with towels isn't acceptable. 4. I've never stayed in a hotel where I could hear the steps of the person in the room above me. Ever. Hotels are usually quite good at sound insulation between rooms and especially floors. I could hear every single step that the guest(s) above me took, along with chairs or bags rolling around. 5. There was no extra tissue in the bathroom. After the towel debacle, I just got an extra roll from my sister's (adjoined) room instead of trying to get some tissue brought up. Would not return or recommend.

The waste basket is porcelain. It's the details for me.

Rapping up my 3 night stay with my Tour Group of a total of about 150 students including Chaperons, I'm posting my "Secret Shopper Review". The Cambria Hotel is really nice, a King room will run you about $299 a night this time of year. I think it's really important to capture real up to date photos of rooms because I've experienced sometimes they don't look the rooms in advertisements. The front desk had our room keys ready when we arrived which was a plus. The parking lot was able to accommodate 3 motorcoach buses. We acquired a private dining room, however on our first morning nothing was ready. To my understanding breakfast was scheduled to be ready at 7am but was not until 8am, here we was all standing around starving and hanging around in the area ready to push each other outta the way to be the first in line when they finally get it together. First morning, breakfast consisted of eggs, sausage and bagels, only fruit oranges, water and orange juice. no milk, no cereal, no oatmeal, no no no nothing you would expect at complementary breakfast . Granted the eggs were real (a plus), sausage thinly sliced(minus) bengals cut in half (minus). The orange juice was saturated with ice and would not come out the sprout of the juice canister. 3 adults tied plus the staff but I guess it was not a quality canister and not the ice blocking the hole. I noticed everything was cold because they never turned on the burners. Ok now, as they put out the food it was always in rationed portions only enough for about 6 kids at a time. So, there we was still standing around looking at each other asking "Did eat already?" "If so, get to the back of the line". Jk It's sad to say, they rationed portions which was separately paid for. saturated with ice orange juice, cold food because the burners was NEVER lit happened all three mornings of our stay. These complaints were not only coming from me but the group's adult chaperons. I approached Zona one morning at the front desk to buy a Sprite, I paid cash and noticed my changed was not right. Now, I recounted my changed and recounted. I asked Zona, "How much was the soda?" She looked me straight faced and said the price and told me there was tax. Again, I counted my change and it was definitely off. Maybe I'm wrong I thought to myself, so I asked for my receipt. Zona, tells me they don't give receipts (hu?). Now she trying to take me for stupid. I smiled and responded by saying "I needed the receipt for my expense report". She then proceeded to give some crazy ten step process she would have to go through to provide me with a receipt. I said, "I'll wait". About 5 minutes later she brings me a receipt and .20 cents change with no apology just hands me both. There's a dishonest person in the House watch you wallets and bank statements! Yeah, you might judge and say it's only .20 cents but for me it's the principle of the matter AND it's MY money AND you tried to cheat me! On morning 2 and on his sixth trip to replenishing the eggs and sausage, a Hotel worker made an announcement telling EVERYONE that the utensils don't go in the container, it goes on the utensil holder provided. In defense of the kids, 1 they are kids it's NOT his place to chastise them, go speak with an adult ( they ignored him anyways) 2nd if he would bring out ALOT more and stop rationing out the portions he wouldn't be annoyed the 50x's you had to return and fish out the spoon to put in more "rationed" portions. 3rd, what was happening, the STARVING kids would lay the spoon on the side of the COLD food pan and it would mistakenly slip into the food. Anyways, the Hotel offers daily housekeeping upon 24 hour request. The towels are really nice, soft and I'm sure accounted for because they was not cheap nor ordinary upon check out. The pillows, sheets and mattress are plush and makes for a restful nights snuggle sleep hard to get up. The bath lights are censored so when you're sleeping walking to the restroom in the middle of the night the lights come on (details). The pool was not open bummer was the response from the kids. Overall, the Cambria receives 4 stars for my review due to NOT providing enough food for the group AND a dishonest front desk worker named Zona. Oh yeah I forgot to mention, the group was also mad by the fact that the dining room was not expanded out large enough to accommodate 140 of us comfortably in the next morning. I Understand, no I didn't pay for anything however I am a guest AND an Yelp Elite and it's my duty to provide honest feedback.

Spacious room & very comfortable bed.

I travel for a living & have stayed at several Choice Hotels. They're definitely hit & miss. Well, Cambria was a HIT. I loved it! The room was spacious including the bathroom. The a/c was cold, shower was hot, & my bed was so comfortable. The exterior of the hotel was nice & clean. The entrance was open & spacious. A very clean & updated hotel. Loved it ... & would highly recommend.

With everything happening on this planet, we needed a getaway. Mind you, we live in New Jersey. However, this was one of the best things we could have done as a couple. Being stuck in the house and not being able to do what you usually want to, can be really uneasy. The hotel is new and modern, and even comes with a smart mirror. The only thing that I did not like was that we could hear the folks upstairs. This kind of stuff usually comes with these types of building structures. But all all in all, if is a nice and discreet spot.

Personally, not a place I will return to. Customer service is truly a hit or miss. I asked for a late check out & a staff member (not a manager or supervisor) told the receptionist no later than 12pm. I did respond sarcastically to keep attitude in check but as a paying customer, it's not up to the discretion of the staff to accommodate certain requests. Another turn off was my reservation apparently changed itself in the hotel's system & had me checking out a day later than I reserved. My confirmation showed 2 nights yet the hotel's computer had 3 nights. The bathroom didn't have wash clothes and after hearing no plastic utensils were available at the hotel, didn't bother to ask for a wash cloth. Cleanliness was sufficient but I prefer to not return for other reasons.

fridge frozen over.

A little further up the road you'll find an AMC Theater, ShopRite, Petco, and even more stores and restaurants. David made a very positive impression on us during our stay. He was friendly, professional, and incredibly helpful whenever we needed assistance. I was already a little on edge after sitting on the tarmac at LaGuardia for 8 hours and then driving 12 hours to New Jersey, so his kindness and professionalism were greatly appreciated. Our room was spectacular! It was very large and equipped with a full kitchen that included a full-sized refrigerator, dishwasher, microwave, and large stove. The room also came stocked with plates, utensils, pots, and pans. The bed was huge and extremely comfortable. There was a full-sized bathroom with an outside vanity area, two closets, a folded cot, a dining table with chairs, and a comfortable sofa for relaxing and watching television. The complimentary morning breakfast was outstanding with a great variety of hot cooked foods, breads, muffins, fresh fruit, cereals, and more. The parking lot was also plentiful, well-lit, and felt very safe. Overall, this was an excellent stay and we would absolutely return when visiting the area again. 5/5 Price 5/5 Comfort & Decor 5/5 Staff 5/5 Parking 5/5 Convenient location

Located in Montclair, NJ, just…read moreoutside NYC, the decor in this boutique hotel is sort of 'artsy Ralph Lauren'--classic plaids mixed with modern art and sparkly modern accent pieces. Each detail has been considered and seemed intended to delight: from the whimsical portraits of famous Georges in the lobby, to the selection of French pastries and cheeses at breakfast, and the Dyson hairdryers in the guest rooms. There were fun surprises at every turn. Where else can you eat a yogurt parfait in an adorable Emma Bridgewater French pedestal bowl under a large portrait of AOC? As someone who is a big fan of sweets, I was just tickled by the sight of the colorful selection of candy in the "secret" candy closet (which although perhaps is a poorly kept secret, was a surprise to me!), as well as the Häagen-Dazs bars in the ice cream freezer. We stayed in the Harry room which was just off the library and featured a cleverly curated collage of framed photos of famous Harrys--Harry Houdini, Harriet Tubman, Debbie Harry, and some less easily identifiable Harrys, which generated conversation (was Buddy Holly's name Harry?). I understand each of the rooms is decorated similarly, each with a different name. We enjoyed tea and cake in the library at tea time. The George offers a complimentary wine service every evening with several selections of wine as well. What an experience--a solid five stars--I hope to return soon.

While our stay included several challenges, I also want to recognize that hotel management ultimately acknowledged our concerns, provided compensation for the inconvenience, and worked with us after the fact to address the situation. We genuinely appreciate that response. Our primary concern was not that the hotel was hosting a FIFA World Cup team. Hotels frequently host special events, and that can be exciting. Rather, we were surprised that guests were not informed in advance that the event would significantly affect access to amenities and common areas. Having that information beforehand would have allowed us to make a more informed decision when booking. When we checked into our room, there were crumbs on the floor. The housekeeping manager came to inspect the room and acknowledged that it had not been properly vacuumed. The bathroom also features barn-style doors with large gaps between the door and the wall, which provide very little privacy. While this is a design choice rather than a service issue, it is something prospective guests may wish to know. During our stay, the on-site gym was closed because of the team's presence, and guests were directed to use an off-site fitness facility. While an alternative was provided, one of the reasons we selected this hotel was for its advertised on-site amenities. We had also planned to work from the lobby while my wife conducted business calls from our room. However, security operations related to the visiting team frequently limited access to the lobby. Police and security personnel were present throughout the area, guests were periodically asked to move, stairwells were restricted, and at times even the lobby restroom was inaccessible. These operational requirements are understandable, but they substantially changed the guest experience. Because of these cumulative issues, we ultimately decided to cancel the third night of our stay. To the hotel's credit, management listened to our concerns after the fact and provided compensation, which we sincerely appreciated. Their willingness to acknowledge the situation demonstrated good customer service once the issues were brought to their attention. My suggestion for future guests is simply to ask before booking whether there are any VIP groups, team buyouts, or major events scheduled that could affect access to amenities or common spaces. Greater transparency from the hotel before arrival would help guests set appropriate expectations and decide whether the experience is the right fit for their trip. One final observation: one of the event staff members (pictured) interacted with guests in a manner that felt abrupt and impersonal during the security operations. In high-profile situations, a courteous explanation and respectful communication can go a long way toward helping paying guests feel welcomed, even when temporary restrictions are necessary.
