A series of unfortunate events had an effect on our stay. The house is beautiful, nice view too, gorgeous yard with multiple sitting areas.

We enjoyed our stay at Downing Ave! We unfortunately had another property right down the street (via AirBnb) cancel on us 2 days before we were supposed to check in but Cambria Vacation Rentals came through for us! Heidi was very kind and accommodating. We came to celebrate our wedding anniversary and brought our 2 dogs and infant daughter. The place was plenty large enough for us and our dogs enjoyed the yard. They also enjoyed watching the turkeys walk by. It was peaceful and quiet. The movie selection was awesome I found about a dozen I'd been wanting to watch. We loved how close it was to town (just far enough), and everything, including Fiscialini Ranch Preserve, was just 5-10 minutes away. CVR was very accommodating with check in and check out, gave us extra fans for the unseasonably warm weather since most places don't have air conditioning, and even sent us away with dog toys and a bottle of local wine (courtesy of the owner). 10/10 Would book again. read more

Heidi and Jone were just WONDERFUL in booking our reservation, checking us in and out easily, and taking care of some of our more unusual needs while we were there. Circumstances beyond their control as well as ours presented challenges in managing our stay (the house was listed for sale while we were staying in it!), but they handled every situation and question professionally and with great care for our comfort (as did the house's owner, by the way). The house itself was fabulous! We stayed at 267 Stafford, and it was beautiful, well-appointed, both in terms of furniture and decor, and the kitchen was well stocked with just about all the dishes and utensils we could need - and more. Fantastic views from the living areas and roof-top deck, and a close walk to Moonstone Beach and into town. I'd stay in the house again if the new owner decides to rent, and I would DEFINITELY use CVR again, without hesitation. read more

After several stays at a nice beach house from CVR, we have sadly checked them off the list. But first, the good. The staff was always nice to work with. Overall, the house was nice and was fully equipped. CVR rents out the properties of the actual owners which is why the houses are fully stocked with everything you could think of, especially the kitchen. Some of the things there are shabby and in desperate need of replacement like area rugs and those worn out vertical blinds. But it was a good value, considering. It's now off our list because it's consistently unavailable during the warmest months there due a preference to another guest. Plus it now shows that dogs are allowed. No more than we will eat at a restaurant that welcomes dogs, we will never pay money to stay somewhere that there's been dogs inside, on the beds, on the furniture. We never would have known that the pet policy switched for this house if we didn't read it on the website. That's sneaky to prior guests like us. Not an animal hater, it's just as a human, we avoid accomodations where strangers have had their dogs. There's enough human germs plus the COVID concerns already than to stay where dogs have been. Pet friendly is a bad policy. It's not hygenic to others and it alienates and deters many people. But dog owners are odd, anyway. So glad we spotted the change. Happily, we have found another beautiful rental house up the road a bit and across from Moonstone Beach that is equally as calm and beautiful, and pets are not allowed. read more

There are really two points to reviewing a vacation rental business. The rental process itself, and the actual quality of the property. The owners at CVR were very accommodating and friendly. They were also flexible and professional. Perhaps this was because our party was able to walk into their office and talk to a live person rather than go through the internet. I would highly recommend stopping by (if feasible) or at least calling them rather than just going through the internet. In any case, I think these guys are pretty good as far as agents go. Now, let's talk real-estate. I can only speak for the property that I occupied but the saying "Buy the shittiest house in the best neighborhood" hold true for buying a home, but not so much when renting one. While clean. this place has probably changed very little since the 1960s. It's grandma's house, and hopefully that experience brings back fond memories for you. Every was old and a bit dusty. I also suspect that much of the bedding is older than I am. Of course, this is not the fault of this rental agency, it's the owners of this property. The location was amazing and for me that made this a fun trip. But I know, most people would probably not be too fond of a stay here with it's lack of modern conveniences, a toilet that clogs up, windows that were extremely drafty, very old Audio/video equipment, and a missing iron ( but CVR did have extras at their office). Strangely enough, it did have nice internet access. This is really a 3.5 star review, but had the property been nicer it would been 4+. This whole part of Cambria is amazing. There were deer everyone, the hiking trails were fun, beach and cliff access all make this an excellent vacation area. Just make sure you don't stay on the "granny house" on Sherwood. Cambria vacation rentals takes no pride in their rentals! heidi huff and janet huff even told me they don't have time to look at the property before you check in! therefore you have no leg to stand on due to their little disclaimer at the bottom of their rental agreement. and it states; "we make every effort to keep our properties in good working order. however, no guarantees or compensation are made for technical failure of appliances, audio/video equipment, spas, internet or any household systems". So basically cambria vacation rentals guarantees nothing! We know this from first hand experience. we recently stayed in one of their properties for 3 nights. ugh! the house we stayed in was dirty with food in the kitchen drawers and the dishes were so caked with hard water we had to wash them to eat on them.the internet didn't work, the spa was spitting out skin from previous guests. if the refrigerator doesn't work, you better go buy an ice chest! Upon complaints about not having the internet we were very quickly directed to the disclaimer, although the price of the house reflects all the amenities listed. Why stay in a sterile hotel room when you can rent an entire house during your visit to the scenic central coast? We''ve been vacationing in Cambria for the past 10 years, and we've only stayed in a hotel there once. The houses managed by Cambria Vacation Rentals are fully furnished with all of the amenities you would find at home. Most houses have ocean views, decks, fireplaces, etc. We've used three of the local rental agencies, and Cambria Vacation Rentals is by far the best. Their staff is helpful and friendly. They have a good website, but you can also call them and they will help you pick a place that is perfect for your group. Our favorite vacation rental house is the place on Warwick Street near Charring. I feel like I'm "home" when I stay there. It's just a short walk to Moonstone Beach and the West Village. read more

This is my first time using CVR. Because of some silly local ordnance about how often a home can be rented I was having trouble getting a place to take my wife for her birthday. Janet was so nice and helpful. She got use a location right on a private beach located at 5431 Nottingham. What a great location. I'm not sure what to say about the bad reviews. Janet and Heidi were so nice and helpful. If not for them I'm not sure where we would have stayed. Were regulars to the area and have stayed in some of the nicer hotels on Moonstone and this by far is the best place we have stayed. I can't speak for the other homes but if you can get the Nottingham location. 4 night min but it was worth it. I would highly recommend CVR. read more

We have been renting from CVR for many years and I'm shocked by so many negatives reviews. Janet and Heidi have always been extremely nice to my family from the first time I called them. The friends that have been referred were also happy after we've spoken about their experiences. It seems to me that maybe the negative reviews are from people that are expecting the "Four Seasons" as an experience. You are renting a persons home and it might not always meet "your" expectations but the owners of CVR are both pleasant people to deal with. They offer a nice selection of homes in many price ranges and some that are pet friendly. The homes we have rented have always been as advertised. Check-in is always easy and the homes we have rented are always ready during the check-in times, sometimes even much earlier. They always provide the initial supply of paper towels, TP, Kleenex and kitchen soap for the sink and dishwasher. The homes come with sheets, bath and kitchen towels. In the past we had an issue with a coffee maker and a TV at different homes and Heidi quickly came by the rental house with a replacement. I've found most homes well stocked with the necessary items to cook but some are better equipped than other but this would be the "owners" decision not the rental property management companies decision. Over the years I have rented in the range of 12 different properties they offer some many times over and over again. We love to travel with our dogs so I greatly appreciate the option to rent dog-friendly when needed and also have the option for other homes when we leave the furry family at home. My recommendation is to call and speak with CVR. I'm sure you will be treated with kindness from both Janet and Heidi. read more

I have stayed in three properties managed by Cambria Vacation Rentals and have had consistently positive experiences. I'd give them 5 stars if they'd extend the rent two get the third night free deal more often, but find their pricing very fair overall. As a former dog owner, I am grateful that they have pet friendly rental hopes, all of which have left no sign of any pets, aromatically or otherwise. The properties have been clean, wifi codes are easy to find, electronics (tv's DVD/CD players, etc.) functioned properly, as were the list of renter expectations. The properties themselves were very comfortable. If I was lucky enough to have a property in Cambria that I did not live at, Cambria Vacation Rentals would be my top choice for property management. Side note: When checking in late, remember to make arrangements to pick up the keys. read more

The first word that comes to mind is compassion. Janet and Heidi are some of the most helpful and caring people I've came across in a long time. My family has been using CVR for many years for our vacationing needs. Our most recent stay was while in between houses awaiting our escrow to close. After a few nights in hotels with two small children I decided to contact CVR for a vacation home to wait out the escrow. They offered us a nice list of homes to choose from that were baby friendly. The prices given were amazing and reasonable. When we had to keep extending our stay they were very understanding. You don't come across people that are so nice and don't just look at you as a money making opportunity. We will continue to do business with CVR. read more

While we have used CVR multiple times - this will be the last time. We rented an oceanfront home on Nottingham for $375 per night. While the view was spectacular, the house was an embarrassment. Stained furniture in master, broken hot tub in master bath, mirrors were showing spots from aging, toilet bowls were stained, shag carpet from 70's, screen on window broken and blinds falling in living room, knives in kitchen had broken tips. Worst was fencing that had fallen and was the view from kitchen and guest bedroom. read more

My wife and I were married in Cambria and have rented the same home for our anniversary from CVR for the last 4 years. Normally, the house has always been in descent shape. However this last visit, the property was filthy. We discovered this late on a Friday evening and ended up cleaning up the place our selves. I did send CVR both an email and a hard copy of the letter. Neither was responded to. it is obvious that CVR does not care about its customers or the property owners they represent. First thing I noticed was the 2" black dog hairs on the comforter in the master bedroom. Then, layer after layer there was dog hair on the blanket, sheets, pillow cases and pillows. There was even makeup, eyeshadow and lipstick on the pillow cases. This was extremely disturbing to me as I am severely allergic to cats and dogs not to mention it was gross to realize no one had washed these. Followed by my children's socks full of cat hairs and the sofa and sofa chairs full of dog and cat hairs. Trying to make the best of this vacation I took my kids clothes and washed them along with all tge linen on the beds leaving comforter and throw pillows untouched in a corner. I vacuumed the first floor, second floor, closets, stairs and all the rugs as they also showed cat and dog hairs. After two hour of cleaning and washing I was exhausted right after driving for six hours to get to Cambria. Had to also place towels over the sofa as you can never get rid of pet dander. To prevent me from having an allergy attack I doubled on antihistamines and asthma medication. Last thing I wanted was my immune system acting up that when severe turns into respiratory infection. This a few days before Christmas. Kitchen and bathrooms were spotless. Which is why I gave 2 stars. read more

This was the absolute best bargain ever - 3 nights over the weekend (you have to get special accommodations to make sure you can stay less than a week) that broke down to $260 each for four of us. Our rental was BEAUTIFUL and clean and perfect with views, king size beds, a full kitchen, hot tub, 3 decks, and vaulted ceilings. Everyone had their own bathroom. This house was so clean I want to go back next weekend. It was so easy to check in and out - just pick up/drop off the key at their office in town. The neighborhood was absolutely silent except for the faint sound of seals barking on the beach. I would use Cambria Vacation Rentals again for any trip in the area. Beautiful town. read more

We stayed at a Cambria Vacation rental located at 5149 Pembrook for three (3) nights in mid-July of 2012. The bedrooms of the house were located along a well worn dog run that belonged to the adjacent neighbor to the south. The dog barked upon our arrival at approximately 6:00 p.m. and continued to bark throughout the evening. At 10:30 p.m. I knocked on the neighbor's door and asked the occupants of the house if they could please move the dog indoors. The young man who answered the door informed that that would not be possible as the dog was not allowed indoors. The matter could not be negotiated; he would get into trouble with his uncle, the house and dog owner who was at work. The dog remained outside for the entire length of our stay and barked intermittently throughout the day and night. The barking dog, of course, colored every other aspect of our stay. The house was bright and airy as described but had a peculiar odor that we thought would be cleared up if we opened the windows and aired the place out. That did not help very much. Some scented candles turned up in a search through the kitchen cabinets but there was nothing to light them with. We opened up more windows and uncovered what was undoubted the source of the odor - water damage at one of the windows. The opened windows only made us more aware of the barking dog. The Cambria Vacation Rental website informed us that we would be making our own beds. In their estimation, this assured us that clean linens were supplied. The clean bed linens sat on top of a duvet that covered the bed. As we were making the bed we could not help but notice that the underside of the duvet cover contained some stains and hardened relics of the bed's previous occupants. This was a bit disconcerting but not a deal breaker as a flat sheet that went beneath the duvet cover had been supplied. The dog barked on and off throughout the night. In the morning we discovered that although the master bathroom came equipped with two sinks, one of them had a plumbing problem - the single lever faucet produced no hot water. Once again, this was not a deal breaker as there were two sinks and the other one had hot water. One small problem, however, the light above this sink was burnt out. We could not find any light bulbs in the house and spent mornings juggling between the sink with hot water and the burnt out bulb and the mirror above the sink that only provided cold water. The water pressure in the shower was decent but it emitted a high pitched squeal while it was being used. The house had a very nice loft space that provided a place to view the sunsets which were partially obscured by the dirty windows and oxidization of the glass. The space could not be used after the sun had set because there were no lamps in this area.There was a combination overhead ceiling fan/light but we could only get the fixture to operate as a fan and not a light. Undoubtedly some adjustment could have been made to this fixture with the aid of a ladder. The lighting situation in the loft area was unfortunate because while we were sitting there the barking dog was only faintly audible. Overhead lighting was provided in the kitchen. There was absolutely no lighting in the dining room. One floor lamp provided the only illumination in the living room. Bring flashlights. Outdoor space is limited to a very tiny patio area that is located along the street. Sitting in the patio area gave us some respite from the barking dog but this area is visible from the street and not at all private. I would not recommend 5149 Pembrook as a vacation property unless you can put up with the inconveniences noted above. Please note that it is this property that warrants the one star rating. Other Cambria Vacation Rentals that I have stayed over the years have been exceptional. read more

They went the extra mile to make sure our property was protected from damage, found handymen to fix minor problems for very reasonable cost, and kept the house spotlessly clean. We stayed at 4849 Windsor the first week of October 2012. Nice home with great ocean views, no beach, lots of rocks though. The management company was nice and allowed us to check in early and were very helpful. I recommend and would rent from this company, "Cambria Vacation Rentals", again. However, I do not recommend the home that we stayed in unless your going to just sit and enjoy the beautiful view of the ocean. There is a hot tub and fire pit outside for your use, but make sure your very quiet and in by 9 pm or the neighbor will yell at you like a school-yard bully. This home needs some TLC. The furniture is very dirty and needs cleaning. The home does not have AC, so if it's hot outside, like it was the first few days we were there you will need to open the doors and windows at night, and again be quiet. Most of the doors and some windows do not have screens so flys and bugs enter the home. I have stayed at several rental homes, I enjoy the ones without all the family photos the best, because I can enjoy it when it feels more like my own place and not staying at a strangers house. I don't know these people but they have family photos everywhere. On a Tuesday night my wife and I were sitting outside enjoying the fire pit and spa with our two children (21 & 25). We were having fun as a family, It was by no means a party, but the neighbor yelled at us and we received a call from the rental company a few days later that the neighbor called and complained to the owner that we were the worst tenants. When the bully yelled for us to be quiet my wife was a little upset at his approach and responded back the same way. Had he asked or even been a little nice we would have just went inside for the night, not that we keep the "party" going, but we would have been nice in return. read more

Beware Just finished a very frustrating reservation experience with the online portion of Cambra Vacation Rentals. Be cautioned that the apparent online reservation service is not fully functioning with the result that reservations are typically "confirmed" in error. In our case, a rental was confirmed for 6 adults and 2 children but was priced at only 1 or 2 adults for the online confirmation including a follow up email which itemized ancillary costs and balance due.. A 2nd "confirmation" dismissed everything in the first confirmation, revising the price upward by 50%. Their response to my questioning the massive price change was to suggest that I was trying to get more than I was willing to pay for. This may be an inadvertent I.T. website error but C.V.R's attitude is repugnant. I understand that C.V.R.'s response to negative Yelp reviews is reservation cancellation. In this case, they needn't bother. read more

We have used this place a few times and are here 8/26-8/31. We have rented this house twice and love it is so close to the beach and dog friendly. It was a bummer we had not warm/hot water in the hall bath. I get we are in a drought but there is no water pressure in either bathroom. Other than that the staff is friendly and the location is awesome. read more

Although we stayed her many years. Janet was a horrible person she was rude we stayed for a week I cooked everyday and when we got there he trash cans were over flowed and all over the driveway so when we checked out she charged us 500 for trash and assuming we had additional people she was the rudest lady did not give me. Chance to explain that I cooked every night that we had no where to put trash except bags without taking outside. DONT STAY WITH THEM SHE HAS HORRIBLE BUSINESS MANAGEMENT. I will add she even charged a card that was not authorized I will be contacting BBB also she complained we left a bathing suit top on the bottom floor not intentional. I actually had it hanging. So beware if you get a home they expect you to stay in one area of the home. And make sure they clear there trash before you check in as I complained we will have trash in the house on our vacation who wants that ? And make sure to keep track of your meals so they don't complain also I did not use their dishes so I did have paper plates. So that also fills the trash. read more

If it was possible to give a zero star rating I would. I completely echo the sentiment of the other horrified and dissatisfied reviewers and patrons of Cambria Vacation Rentals. My family and I used their services to rent a beach front house over Easter weekend. The property itself was dirty, dusty, and in a state of disrepair in many areas. Thankfully the ocean front location helped us see past a lot of this. Even worse, the customer service provided by Heidi and Janet was terrible. I've never spent so much money and been treated so poorly and with such little regard and lack of desire to cultivate future business. Unbelievably enough, one of them actually had the nerve to accuse me of attempting to extort them when I asked if they would consider waiving the cleaning fee since the house was in such a filthy state when we arrived. Sorry, but if they think being asked to provide a little bit of customer service is extortion they're a lost cause. The take home message is, avoid renting from Cambria Vacation Rentals at all cost. Breen and VRBO have plenty of lovely properties and they're more likely to actually be nice to you and care about customer satisfaction and repeat business. read more

My husband and I have a current vacation rental, Sea Watch, (and a previous one) that have been managed by Cambria Vacation Rentals (CVR) for 17 years. We can't applaud Janet and Heidi enough for the outstanding quality service they provide for us as owners and it certainly translates into the high calibre service they provide for their clientele. While the other vacation rental agencies in town are adjunct businesses to realty companies, CVR is singularly devoted to the vacation rental market which establishes them above the others for their attention to detail. Because of them, we are able to provide many amenities in our home because the overwhelming majority of their customers respect the homes they rent as if they were their own. Janet and Heidi also monitor their renters' adherence to noise ordinances, the home owners' preferences, and the rights of nearby resident neighbors, all standards that we appreciate, as do our neighbor friends. They know their owners' homes and they work with their customers in order to maximize their vacation expectations. Without question, our years of working together are proof that they have earned our professional respect and therefore our strongest endorsement for reliability, quality, and satisfaction. read more

My most recent experience with cambria vacation rentals has been horrifying! We rented a property at Easter and communicated to them a few of the problems with the property. We were paying $500 nite so we had an expectation of a clean, fully functioning rental. Not so and when we communicated to Heidi she became defensive and hostile. Not the best customer service attitude. Not once did she apologize for the issues we encounter instead scolded us for our complaints. Fast forward to September ..thought I'd give them another chance as anyone can have a bad day. Well after we had reserved and paid our deposit I received an email that indicated since we had written a negative review on Yelp previously (and we are not the only negative review by the way) they were canceling our reservation. This was with very short notice leaving us in the lurch for our plans in early October. I was shocked at this type of Retaliation - after I wrote her an email to reconsider indicating that this was an opportunity to reverse our initial bad experience she refused. Amazing !!! and I pity the owner who lost a $400/nite rental revenue foe 3 nights because they refuse to provide any level of customer service. I have been coming to Cambria for many years and renting various houses from Cambria Vacation Rental. I have always had the very best experiences. I find that renting a house is so much better than staying at the various bed and breakfast places on Moonstone beach. I have had top service from the ladies at CVR. They are helpful in choosing a place and have always been very generous about letting me come early. I have never had any problems with the houses. They have always been clean and as promised in the ads. I would highly recommend this service for your stay in Cambria. read more

We used CVR last year (5/17) and rented a small house on Sherwood, which was described as "rustic". The first night my husband fell and injured his knee when he got up to go to the bathroom which was a step-down and the steps were made of big heavy cinder blocks, not secured to the floor, which is where and how he fell. The microwave did not work and they did bring us another one right away. The electricity had something wrong and would only work now and then. The washer and dryer shuts off during use from overload, I assume, as did the fridge and what little we had in it was ruined as we were gone for the entire day. While this place is ocean front, you can't get to the ocean from the house as there's no steps. The lawn chairs were broken and there's really no place to sit as the only part of the house that faces the ocean is a path about 3 foot wide with no fencing or barrier to keep someone from falling. The rocks in front aren't stable and the trash was full and running over when we arrived but was picked up a couple days later. The blinds were broken...the slats had been snapped in two, so privacy was limited. No screens on windows and windows in bathroom had to be propped open. Didn't have a problem with the employees from the property management, they listened to our complaints, and offered no suggestions....seems they should be discussing needed repairs with the home owner as somebody's looking to be sued....we will not return. There's other places available that will have respect for customers. read more
