It's Covid season so we ordered walk up and takeout. They're handling the crowd control nicely and there were quite a few people waiting around to pick up orders. We placed ours, then walked down towards the beach. Saw a good parking spot and moved our truck so we had oceanside dining. Brought our smoking hot fried foods back to the vehicle and ate while it was hot. Good onion rings, and the fish and chips were exactly what one would like them to be, tender inside and crispy outside. My son had the fried clams and while they're not my thing, he loved them. Note: everything I saw on the menu was deep fried. I was really looking for crab cakes but made do with the mixed fish and chips with shrimp. I've been coming here for years. When it comes to serving seafood I had found you can't please everyone. For me I have cravings for the fish&chips . If I can be candid some people might say Camelot is a 'greasy spoon' , not me! I love this place. Portions are generous,you won't leave hungry ! I had a friend of mine say the fish is undercooked, wrong. I think it's perfectly cooked or I wouldn't keep coming back. Service has always been excellent,family like friendliness. As you walk into Camelot of course you smell fried food, but not like my mother's house when the house stinks for several days of fish. Godbless her memory but she couldn't fry fish. I always thought if the place smells gamey don't bother. I've been to England & Camelot has a British ambiance. If you need a 'fix' for fish & chips I highly recommend Camelot. Oh where do I begin. I order the "Camelot" combo and my wife had the regular fish and chips. The Camelot came with deep fried oysters, shrimp, scallops and 1 fish. The shrimp and scallops were horrible. You can't tell where the batter ends and the shrimp/scallops begin. Tiny. All batter!! The oysters were slightly better in oyster/batter ratio, but still very unimpressive. The fish was the best of the lot, but even that came up short. It was very greasy and, again, mostly batter. Last but not least the "chips" were a little soggy. They had no crunch to them and felt a little rubbery. All in all, we were really disappointed. I suppose if I had a ordered a beer to wash it all down, it may have made things better. They appear to have a good selection of beers to choose from. Lastly, the place is VERY small. Our group of 3 shared the following: 1) Fish & Chips - tasty 2) Crab cakes & Chips - delicious 3) Shrimp & Chips - disappointing Unfortunately, we got the last order of fish and chips when we arrived around 6pm on a Saturday night! It may be a good idea to arrive earlier to ensure you get their signature dish. The service was a mixed bag. The order taker at the counter was friendly and patient. However, they seemed understaffed, and no one came to clear off and clean the tables between different sets of patrons. We had to ask them to clear off our table (which still had the last group's dishes) when our food arrived. At that point, they did, but only partially. The setting is British pub-like, dark and cozy. The fish is MUCH bigger than I expected and it's flaky and juicy, as should be. The 3 piece of fish was so meaty, I only finished 1 piece of it while eating alongside the other food. Besides 1 order of the fish & chips, we also ordered The Camelot. LOVE IT! It has fried fish, shrimp, and oyster in it. It was perfection! All of it was crispy and wonderful on the outside, but deliciously tender on the inside. The chips were not soggy or hard. I felt it was the right texture. I do wish they had something non-fried on their menu, or some salad to go with it but I understand it's not their specialty. You order at the counter upon entering, and for drinks they have self-serve water. They also sell canned sodas at the counter. For alcohol, there is beer and wine. I'm not usually a beer person, but it does pair really well with their food! It's located right by the ocean so once you're done eating, it's a great place to take a stroll around the beach. Pretty disappointing. This place has great reviews so I had my hopes up. I got the fish and chips sub for the fried mushrooms. The seasoning in the breading was great. The mushrooms were actually quite good. But that's pretty much where the positives end. The fish was dry. They were big pieces of fish, but I think they'd be better off trimming them smaller to get a moister product. A gripe for me was that they use premade tarter sauce. It's not a difficult thing to make. If you're a small menu place that specializes in a specific dish and aren't super cheap, I expect it to be homemade. It'd be like a taqueria that only sells tacos using Pace salsa. It wasn't bad by any means. If I got the same thing from a bar that had a large menu, it prob would've been 3-4 stars. And it just came out of the fryer, so super hot. Wish I could remember the type of fish they used. Plentiful basket of fries came with. But they were a bit soggy and underwhelming. Wish they'd chosen the "steak fries" (you know the bigger thicker ones you would get in England). Tartar sauce had just the right amount of tart, plenty of pickles and not to mayonaisey (not a word I know). Clearly I'm showing my American side here, but when did F&C stop coming with a side of Coleslaw. That's what I missed, sort of. But this just left more room for me to gorge on the fish. Been coming here for 15 years now. My first choice for fish and chips. The fish has always been good and I usually eat it with not only the tartar sauce but with vinegar too. My mom doesn't care for vinegar and eats the fish with just the tartar sauce. My brother is not a seafood eater so he always orders the chicken and chips. However, the one thing that kept me from enjoying my experience fully is that the food seems like it is not seasoned at all. I usually am sensitive to salt, but this seemed to have almost none! We had an assortment of fried fish, crab cakes, fried shrimp, jalapeno poppers, fried oysters, and french fries. Everything was fried well and wasn't overly greasy. The poppers and fish in particular were my favorite. And of course, we had to end our meal here with a couple of fried twinkies. Not a meal I would go for on a normal day but we had all just came off of a three hour volunteer event of landscaping so I think the calories here were well deserved. They for sure redeemed themselves today. Fish was very tasty and not over battered. I got the Camelot and enjoyed mostly the fish and chips, the scallops and the shrimp (those are soooo good). I didn't really care for the oysters much. One was super oily and HOT and one was decent but I am more of a fresh only oyster girl so I handed that over to my fiancé. They have Tapatio now which is a total step up from straight Tabasco. The service is awesome and prices are decent. Wait time was about 15min as usual. Downside and why I can't give 5 stars - seating. I sat by the bar and literally it blocks the bathroom so I had like 20 people scooting past me and the two others I was with. So -1 star for that. Here's what I liked: the decor of the pub is very reminiscent of English or Irish pubs. It really made me feel like I was in the UK. The sweet potato fries were good. Ratio of fish to batter is excellent. Portions are large! And staff were very friendly and attentive. What I didn't like: the fish was dry. I'm not sure what type of fish they used, but it was tough (not soft and flakey like the cod you'd get in England). The calamari looked and tasted like frozen stuff you could get in a bag. Took a drive to Pacifica this afternoon and turned to Yelp for lunch suggestions. So glad to have found Camelot Fish & Chips on Manor Drive. Super cute inside. Very friendly service. Ordered the Fish & Chips. Out came a very generous portion -- 2 huge pieces of fish. Crunchy on the outside, moist and flaky on the inside. Add the tartar sauce and malt vinegar and you've got yourself a super delicious bite. Located right off Hwy 1 with easy parking across the street. I'll definitely return. read more
