Our party of three was second in line when they opened the restaurant for lunch. The restaurant is small, but we were happy to get a table with a window. It's decorated with a fish net on the ceiling and plastic fish in the nets. The food was pretty good. Everything tasted fresh, but there was no seasoning on anything. The breading on the fish was a little soggy. The service was disappointing and hurtful. The waiter waited on every table around us before finally coming to us. Water was brought to every table in the restaurant before it was brought to ours. We were quiet and polite, so there was absolutely no good reason to treat us so poorly. It was painfully obvious that the waiter did not want to wait on us for some reason.

Came here because my wife and I wanted fried fish..particularly cod. We were seated immediately, waited on immediately and served immediately. We both had fish plates. I had mine with prawns and she had her's with Calamari. She also had a clam chowder cup. Unfortunately.. my wife's food was not lightly fried and she was unhappy with the quality of it. She stated that it was kinda burnt on some of it. She said the coleslaw was good. My food was lightly fried as it should be reach and every time. My fries were not really fresh either honestly and it lol like it was just the leftover ones from the bottom of the pan. They were not really hot either. It seemed as if the oil was not fresh this evening.

My sister and I came here for some seafood after crabbing on the pier next door. The takeout line was around 30+ people at 1PM, and it took 45 minutes between us joining the line and receiving our food. The dine-in line was a 2-hour wait when we arrived and had closed for the day by the time we left. In general, I'm not the type of person to wait for food no matter how good it is, and unfortunately I didn't think Barbara's Fishtrap was anything too special. My sister and I shared a mini fish-trap combo, Caesar salad, and a cup of soup-- we had almost 30% leftover. The variety of seafood in the combo is really nice! But I thought the breading was soggy and in general just really needed the sauce for a punch of flavor. The fried zucchini was by far the best thing we ate (it was seriously to-die for), which feels wrong for a seafood combo. :P Service was friendly and were trying their best to help everyone, but wow we could tell they were super overwhelmed. :( Would not come back but glad I tried it, especially with such a neighborhood hype around this place!

Six of us came for a late lunch before they closed. Apparently the tables outside are Only for take out orders. We ate family style and it was perfect. We ordered the shrimp Louie salad, bowl of clam chowder, tempura oysters and fried combo seafood platter It was perfect for 6 People. We divided up everything. And the 805 Beer was only $3. The shrimp Louie salad was fresh and delicious. The clam chowder was loaded with a creamy consistency. Excellent! Our server was Kim who has worked there for 40+ years! The tempura oysters was crispy and juicy. The Barbara fish trap Fried platter had a variety of everything. Everything was crispy, hot and perfectly cooked.

Parking was easy with a lot conveniently located across the street. We arrived when the restaurant itself was closed, but the takeout window had just opened. They actually close between service periods to change the oil, which I appreciated because it helps keep the fried food tasting fresh. One thing to note is that the line can get pretty long. I would recommend arriving about 15 minutes before the takeout window opens and getting in line early if you're visiting during a busy time. There is some outdoor seating available, but tables are limited. Be prepared to grab a bench or take your food to go if it's crowded. The seafood was incredibly fresh, and everything we ordered was fried to perfection! It was crispy on the outside without feeling greasy. You can tell they take pride in the quality of their food. Overall, it's a great spot for fresh seafood and definitely worth the wait in line.

EAT HERE BEFORE 2-4 they close to change their oil. Also, be aware that there might be a long wait. Insanely good fish and chips. The tartar sauce is the best I've ever had. I got the fish of the day sandwich and it was absurdly good. Pair that with good fries and $3 beers, this place offers an unbeatable combo. Another 5 star banger in Half Moon Bay :)

This was my second time here, so I already knew the drill. We came earrrrrlyyy. They open at 11 AM, and we got there at 10:20 AM and were second in line. I gotta say... I think twice is enough for me. The food is definitely fresh, but not the freshest I've ever had, especially considering the price. It's pretty overpriced for what you get. I'm not sure why, but the fish and chips weren't as seasoned as they were during my first visit. We ended up adding a lot of salt this time around. The garlic cheese bread is an absolute must-order honestly, it was my favorite thing we had. The oysters were very creamy and fresh, which I enjoyed. The ambiance is still the biggest reason to come here. The views and atmosphere are fantastic, and the service is great too. Everyone was friendly, welcoming, and smiling throughout our visit. Overall, I'm glad I gave it a second try, but it'll probably be a while; or maybe never...before I come back.

First time here, we did not wait long at all for inside seating. Fish and chips were delicious, fresh and tasty. Inside seating is cozy and cute! Servers are great would definitely return.

Grew up going to Barbara's! First time back after a few years. Saturday morning. Around 11:20 am. Luckily last table inside. Two of us ordered: cup of clam chowder $6.95 (more on the starchy/potato-y side) mini fishtrap with fries $28.50 frid oyster sandwich $22.95 Obviously heavy on the fried food. Flavors were good. Service is a bit on the slower side. Decor inside seems unchanged. Parking in the lot / on street parking. They take credit cards now which is great!

LOVE LOVE LOVE this place. it's nice that they have outdoor seating as well so you don't have to eat inside. We ordered from the outside take out window and ate at one of the tables overlooking the beach and water. They're really good at having everything for you to grab after you order - napkins, utensils, sauces, vinegar, etc. Name it they have it available - as well as water!! I typically get their fish and chips but decided to their tuna melt sandwich with fries, along with their fried mushrooms (MY FAV). OMG so much tuna on that perfect roll. With gooey melted jack cheese!! Hubby got their fresh crab sando - forgot to take a pic cause he dove in immediately and devoured it rather quickly!! You'd think the bread would be to hard but the texture with the bread and the filling was SO GOOD and I love they put the lettuce, tomatoes, pickles and onions separate so you can build it the way you want!! And you can get your sauces - which mayo is one that you can add if you want. I've converted to eating my fries with mayo so it's nice they offered that condiment! BUT their cole slaw is our all time favorite - so fresh and flavorful. next time I'm getting extra!! The kids got the cajun fish sandwich and the bay shrimp sandwich. you definitely need to add lemon and sauce to the bay shrimp sandwich - oldest said she liked my tuna over her bay shrimp.... AND did I mention their fried mushrooms? not too many places service this but Barbara does it right. Mushrooms are JUICY and meaty with the right crunch on the outside and not greasy!! Wish they provided more mushrooms though - i should've order two! LOL Our all time favorite place to come eat when we are in the area! OH and their clam chowder. We actually were so full we didn't eat them there - we took it home to eat and regardless of the delay - was delicious!!

Fish & Calamari Tempura and Clam Chowder (Sourdough Bread Bowl)

We stopped by Barbara's Fishtrap during a trip to Half Moon Bay, and while the food was definitely worth trying, be prepared for the crowds. There's a parking lot across the street, but finding a spot wasn't easy. We originally planned to dine in, but the wait for a table was much longer than we wanted, so we ordered from the takeout window instead and ate outside. Our food was ready in about 10 minutes, which was much faster than waiting for a table. We ordered the Fish & Calamari Tempura (with fries) and the clam chowder in a sourdough bread bowl. The fish was definitely the highlight. It was light and flaky, moist on the inside, and perfectly crispy on the outside. The calamari was cooked just right, not rubbery at all, and the horseradish marinara/cocktail sauce it came with was so good. The clam chowder was good and comforting, especially with the sourdough, but it wasn't as memorable as the tempura. Overall, I'd come back for the fish and calamari, but I'd probably order takeout again unless I got there early enough to avoid the long wait.

We were doing a battered fried Fish & Chip roadtrip (Bodega Bay to Half Moon Bay), so we had to end with the best :) F&C were as excellent as we remembered. Service was expedient. Ambiance was cozy seaside on this overcast day.

I came here with my cousin who wouldn't stop raving about this sandwich I "had to try". So he, my kids, and I took a drive. Walking in, I really appreciated the cleanliness of the place. They also had a really cool floor that looked like you were standing on the beach. Grade: A The service was great! The person who took my order was patient and very helpful when I was trying to figure out food for my son. I didn't know that they also served breakfast items until noon. I ordered the #27 Nor Cal, a kid's burger for my daughter, and so thankful they offered pancakes for my son. Service grade: A Let's get started on the main attraction for me...the #27 NorCal. There are so many choices on the menu that I really want to highlight how great this one is! I ordered it with Dutch crunch per recommendation from my cousin. The NorCal comes with chicken, teriyaki, peanut sauce, pepper jack cheese, mayo, onions, sprouts, and tomatoes. Yes, peanut sauce. The bread was toasted to perfection and soaked up the sauciness. I'm the first to admit that my cousin was 100% right! I really loved this sandwich. The flavors and quality were off the charts. This sandwich easily goes into my top 5 all-time. Wow! Grade: A+ I really appreciated that they have a kids menu! My son had the pancakes. He usually complains anywhere we go, but he actually turned to me and said that he liked these pancakes. I picked one up and I must saw they were thick, fluffy, and delicious. The fact that my son was happy, made our visit all the more better. Grade: A My daughter had the kid's cheeseburger. The burger was a 1/4 lb and came with a generous portion of fries. The French fries were crispy on the outside and perfectly seasoned. The French roll used for the burger may be the best French roll I've had. (Of course I had to try it) haha The outer part had an easy chew and the inner part was like a pillow. I only tried the bread, but my daughter was overall content. The cheeseburger was a good size for her. Things that I want to try next time include their sourdough bread that looked fantastic, their flan, and this bbq beef sandwich that looked insane! There are also a few other sandwiches that looked good on the menu...chicken marinara and provolone, a honey mustard one, and the other was a California club. I'm still thinking about my sandwich a day later so it may take a few visits before trying others. Apparently this spot is a not-so-hidden gem to others as while we were there, the place filled up fast! When we were leaving, a line had formed and the staff readily took care of everyone. Their other specialty (other than the burger) is their mushroom sandwich. I also got their homemade potato chips and added a Diet Coke. I waited about 10 minutes for my meal to be served in a paper bag and then decided to sit inside on one of the stools. The burger is served on grilled square shaped sandwich bread and it was very good tasting. It wasn't a traditional burger with the shrooms, cheese, Dad's sauce, cheese, pickled onion and lettuce and fell apart by the time I was halfway thru it. It is definitely a knife and fork sandwich but I still enjoyed it. Also those homemade chips were also very good tasting. They had a (coating) on them and I can see why they are so popular. Yes this is a very good and unique type of place to eat. My only negative was the price. $16.25 for the burger, $5.50 for the potato chips and $3 for the can of Coke. With tax it was $26.65! But then this is California!

I would recommend trying the Mac Attack. They are deep fried mac and cheese cubes and the main reason we keep coming back. Staff is always super kind and helpful. Restroom is smart and clean.

We arrived around 1 PM on a Saturday, so we fully expected it to be busy. What we didn't expect was a parking lot with only about 10 spaces. You can't park along Highway 1, so if the lot is full, your only real option is finding a spot in the neighborhood or on one of the side streets behind the restaurant. There's no indoor seating, but they do have two separate outdoor seating areas. There's only one register for ordering, and the line was pretty long. It took us about 20 minutes to place our order. They give you your drinks and a buzzer, and then you find a table and wait for your food. We sat in the garden area, which we really liked, but after about 30 minutes I was starting to wonder if our buzzer was even working. Of course, right as I got up to go check on our order, it went off. It's a little difficult to rate the service because there really isn't much service. You place your order at the counter, get your own water and condiments, pick up your food when it's ready, bus your own table and throw away your trash. I also couldn't find silverware anywhere after picking up our food. They were still slammed, so I didn't bother trying to track someone down and we just ate with our hands. The good news is the food was excellent. We both loved what we ordered, and the fresh-cut French fries were especially good. The outdoor setting and garden area also have a really nice atmosphere. The biggest disappointment came when we went to clean up our table. The trash cans were completely overflowing with plates and garbage piled on top, and it looked like nobody had cleaned the area in quite a while. I actually had to push the trash down just to make room for ours. So overall, excellent food and a great outdoor setting, but between the parking, long wait, almost entirely self-service setup and overflowing trash, there's definitely room for improvement.
