First time I ate here years ago, the fish burrito was amazing! It was flavorful and perfectly balanced and the purple cabbage which tasted pickled was what made it stand out. My husband and I have thought about this burrito ever since! We were in the area yesterday and excited to get the chance to eat the fish burrito again . Unfortunately it tasted bland and the purple cabbage was nothing like it was before. We couldn't tell if it was lacking in flavor or if they just didn't fill it like they did before. I saw people enjoying their meals, and when I asked a few of them about the food, they all said it was worth the wait. When it was finally my turn to order, the cashier was incredibly kind and helpful. Since it was my first time, I had a few questions about the menu and drinks, and she was happy to explain everything. Even the chefs were fun and energetic. At one point I yelled out, "Frijoles!" and they yelled it right back with the same energy. It definitely made the experience more memorable. The wait was around 15-20 minutes, and once I saw my platter come out, I was excited and honestly drooling. The three big pieces of fish were beautifully seasoned, and even the seasoning on the chips was something different that I really enjoyed. Every bite was hot, flavorful, and delicious. The fish tasted incredibly fresh, and the fries were crispy and satisfying. I definitely understood why this place had such a crowd. My only small issue was that one of my pieces of fish was pretty thick, and when I bit into it, I noticed the batter in the center wasn't completely cooked through. They cook the fish right in front of you, you get your choice of fish, they have fresh fish you can buy and take home raw. They also have POKÉ!? I got really hungry after walking around the beach and another place. So I decided to dine at Hook Fish, which seems to be very popular. It's located near many homes. I'm sure that many residents who live near are lucky coming here because honestly the food was good here. There is no indoor dining but they do have a patio although it can get full which is why people ended up dining at the benches. Luckily, I'm able to find a spot after I ordered my food. Also, inside the interior, you can see informations about fish and drinks. Keep in mind that they don't have fountain drinks, but you can view drinks menu on the wall. I order fish and chips and it tasted really good. I can see how seasoned the fries are and crispy the fried fish is. No wonder why sometimes a line builds up to the point where there's too many people. Honestly, I could ordered tacos there, but they feel more like an appetizer. This is some of the best ceviche I've had in a long time. The fresh fish was amazing, and the cooks in the kitchen were really getting down. Although the line was long and seating was limited, it was well worth the wait. I would highly recommend this place for fresh seafood. You can definitely taste the difference in how fresh it was, and I suggest getting there before the lunch rush. Even though it sits in the middle of a commercial block in a heavily residential neighborhood, I got the impression they like to think they're on Fisherman's Wharf. That's because they operate more like a takeout window with all the seating outside in a parklet set up as a weatherworn, wooden pier. The menu presented fresh fish in a number of ways: burritos, tacos, lunch plates, sandwiches, salads, burgers, and even fish & chips. The grilled fish of the day was rockfish, so I ordered the $20 Grilled Fish of the Day Salad. It was a hearty serving made up of three large, flaky fillets on a bed of mixed greens. It came with shaved vegetables, everything seed clusters, a heavy dousing of vinaigrette, and a little cup of crema for good measure. The only problem was where to eat it since the pier seats were all taken. I thought I could share one of the sidewalk tables, but a nasty German tourist shooed me away. I waited for another table to open up and finally got to eat. It turned out to be pretty satisfying. Next time I'll know to order it to go, so I can sit on the beach.. Hook Fish is on many must-try SF restaurant lists, so naturally, I had pretty high expectations. But unfortunately, the food did not live up to the hype. Came by on an early evening during a weekday so the wait was only around 10-15 minutes after ordering. I ordered the poke tacos ($20 for an order of 2) and a pineapple mint agua fresca ($3.50). Seating is all outdoors and quite limited, so we took our food to-go and ate it in the car. The pineapple mint agua fresca was super disappointing. All the agua frescas were already prepped and poured out into cups which in hindsight should've been a red flag.... It came with no ice and was barely colder than room temperature. The drink was quite pulpy but strangely had no pineapple flavor whatsoever. Ended up tasting like lukewarm minty water. Now, onto the poke tacos: These are definitely the priciest tacos I've had ($10 per taco?!?) so the flavor and quality had to deliver to justify these prices. But they were just... okay. Would've preferred a lime wedge over the lemon wedge they gave. The albacore tuna was fresh and didn't taste fishy. The pico de gallo and slaw were pretty standard, although I didn't taste the pickled flavor from the slaw. I also couldn't taste much of the spicy aioli, but that's probably because I chose to have it on top instead of on the side. I'd say that the overall presentation and preparation of these tacos could've been more thoughtful. For instance, the tacos got quite soggy from the pico. It would definitely help to have 2 tortillas instead of 1. The avocado came in a chunk on top of each taco and kept slipping out when eating. I think it would've been better to cut the avocado into smaller slices instead of one chunk. Small details like these made it not as enjoyable of an experience to eat. Ultimately, these tacos were not worth the steep price. Perhaps their fish and chips are better in terms of both flavor and value, but I unfortunately don't see myself returning in the near future. read more

SERVICE: Super quick service! I read through the reviews on yelp and placed my order ahead of time to avoid waiting. I ordered before I got off from work and picked up with no issues. Staff members were super friendly too! PARKING: Parking is super difficult! I recommend to order online and double park to pick up. Overall, I would visit here again and again and again! I finally got to try Hook Fish! I visit the restaurant on a Saturday afternoon. Got there before 12pm and the wait time after ordering food is 45 mins. The line to order was getting longer as we were waiting. Sitting is all outside. Food was delicious and my favorite was the fish and chips. Everything was good and totally order the same again. I would like to come back but the wait is too long. My cousin and I had a lot to catch up on but otherwise it's just too long. I will do online order next time and eat it in the car. read more

Upon arriving on a Sunday afternoon, I was met with the crowded seating and medium sized line at Hook Fish. My friend and I chose to mobile order for take-out and waited an hour for the food to be ready. This spot is by the beach and nearby to some fun shops so there was enough to do while waiting. Then comes the food itself. The fish was decent and had a nice fry on the batter, but the taste was boring. Maybe I'm just not a big fan of fish and chips but, without any sauce, it's just plain and boring. Their tartar sauce is quite good and the in-house hot sauce isn't bad, but even then it feels :/. The highlight of this is definitely the crisp on the batter. It's super satisfying and fun to eat. In contrast, the fries were quite soggy. Really solid fish and chips. The fish was really crispy on the outside, moist on the inside, and not greasy at all. The fish portion is large. The fries on the other hand were ok, they definitely needed to be dipped in ketchup. We ordered through the QR on the door and our order was ready in 30 min, the area is very cute there's a bookstore and surf shop near by and right down the street from ocean beach. read more
