i walked in as my camera was not turning on and making a weird noise - i took the film and battery out and put back in 10 times and nothing. the employee here took the film out once and it was working perfect! sometimes it just takes another pair of hands LOL. we laughed about it. they were so kind and did not even charge me. i will definitely be back here for any of my camera needs! So I'm only giving 1 star bc apparently you have to! I brought my nikomat film camera in for a CLA (clean,lube,adjust). The gent that helped me was very responsive and personable. He asked me if there were any known issues, to which I responded none that I know of. The camera was working fine to my knowledge but I was open to the idea that it may need some extra help. All good. See ya in a few weeks! So a few weeks rolls by and nothing. I called and spoke to a different guy who tells me that there was a (somewhat) major problem with the camera. Technical jargon aside, the connection between the lens and the body needs to be repaired. The camera CANNOT work correctly without this. I was offered a replacement camera bc they didn't have the parts to repair it. I declined the offer for sentimental reasons. He said they could source the parts and let me know the price. Long story short I decided against the whole thing and picked up the camera. When I got it, I understood the issue the 2nd guy was talking about. It was the meter coupling tab that connected to the corresponding "rabbit ears" on the lens. Simply put it... didn't move, so could not connect to the lens. However, THIS WAS NOT THE CONDITION THE CAMERA WAS IN WHEN I BROUGHT IT IN. When I alerted them to this and asked them to fix it to the point of the original condition, they complied. They did however decline on the CLA or any other work. To sum it up. They tried to pump me for money. I caught the error and they decided to just get me out the door. Bad business guys! These guys are major rip off artists. If you don't know anything about cameras or lens they are going to go after your $$$$. I brought in a 300mm lens that needed a new motor. I was told that the motor would be replaced and coast $700.00. I told him to go through with it. After a few weeks of not hearing anything from them I called and they told me they were waiting for parts from the manufacture. A few more weeks went by and I picked up the lens and it worked fine. A few months later it was no longer working. When I called and complained and asked if they replaced the motor they told me that they repaired the motor. HOLLY SH_T!!!!! When I started to argue with them they told me that the part, the motor for the lens, is no longer available. They claimed they never told me that they would replace the motor. Oh, really good....replace.... repair.... yea, I get it!!! But so nice of them to offer that they would repair the lens for another $700!!!! If you want a professional repair shop go to Nippon Photographic, they are very professional and honest. read more

An old New York experience, reliable, inexpensive friendly service, did what the said they would and what I asked them to do, with a smile, some advice and ...well, a perfect job. Be assured I am a life-long cynical New Yorker in my 70s. These guys are the best. And their "store" is like out of a 50's movie, stacked with all sorts of cameras and equipment. Worth the trip just to meet these guys and see their operation. And they really know cameras. Walked on in today and was greeted by two friendly and clearly knowledgeable camera doctors! I immediately trusted Frank and Matt to take care of my camera. They fixed up my Canon mark iii sensor and lens within an hour of drop-off. I came back before closing and voila, my baby was all good to go! I was very impressed by their service. Frank and Matt greet you and take you to their subterranean shop that is tiny and set with everything camera--bodies, lenses, full-frame, medium-frame, film and digital. When I need something to be fixed, I want an honest assessment. Frank advised me to return my camera which was still under warranty because he couldn't fix it in time for my trip. He also gave me a price range that was an estimated cost. His advice was excellent, and I felt that he was competent and honest. I just went in to check an inexpensive priced 35mm camera I purchased on eBay. It did not shoot my first roll so I was recommended to the camera doctor. Frank was so nice and very helpful, he took time out to look at everything and give suggestions. Matt checked online to see if there would be rentals available in the city if I needed them.
