This restaurant is the perfect, splurge, nice night out, date night. The food is delicious and every time my husband and I have been there the service was excellent. The ambiance is nice but it isn't so fancy that it would be uncomfortable for most and you aren't expected to dress up more than for an average date night. Well, maybe 3 stars ...... Enjoyed an anniversary dinner last night. The food was very good. But the service and atmosphere could be improved. We had a reservation but a table hadn't been marked for us -- hostess looking around wondering where to seat us. A small table by a window appealed to me right away, but she decided to put us in a corner. It was cozy and quiet -- and as long as they didn't put anyone in the table right next to us (we shared a booth bench with it), I was fine. It was not busy and I mentioned to the server, smiling, that it would be nice to have this corner to ourselves; she agreed. Five minutes later they sat two young women next to us. Oh well. Speaking of tables, if this truly is the best restaurant in town, linen tablecloths and real candles would add to the atmosphere. The menu is very limited, just a few items and a special. Just a bit more variety would be nice. Especially since they were out of the only chicken dish, and out of my husband's side dish. They also had only two desserts - well, I heard three offered to another table, but by the time we got a chance to order, there were two choices. Sigh. Just ok. Server was nice. Fries tasted gross/freezer burned. Butternut squash soup was just ok. Crab cakes were small and mustard sauce too strong. Pricey for everything. Short rib was really fatty (yes, short rib are always fatty but these were nearly all fat) As expensive, or more than casino steakhouse. Atmosphere here much better but food not good. read more

After moving to Mt. Pleasant from San Diego, I was extremely put out by the lack of restaurants serving decent food. So far, Camille's is one of about three exceptions to the rule here. The quality of the food and service at Camille's is light-years beyond most of the establishments in this town. At Camille's they neither slack in presentation nor taste. Everything we ordered was delicious, fresh, and well prepared. Having said that: If you want quality food in Mt. Pleasant, you are going to have to pay for it. Everything about this restaurant was phenomenal. I was in love with the atmosphere, it created such a great dining experience. My boyfriend and I both started with a petite beet,arugula, goat cheese, candied pecan salad which was not only beautiful to look it, it was yummy as well! We both had the seared bone in ribeye with a chipotle sauce for our entrees which also came with the (addicting) duck fat fried fingerling potatoes and seared brussel sprouts. The entire meal was fabulous, the steak was perfectly cooked and had an amazing crunchy sear on the outside but so juicy inside, and the sauce; amazing. We had a shared side of the butternut squash risotto. It was so creamy and delicious. HUGE portions as well! When we saw the dessert menu all of the choices looked awesome so we had to try one. We had the ginger bread creme brûlée. Wow. That is really all I have to say. On top of the atmosphere and outstanding food the service was great. Fairly fast and very friendly! The food was very good. We liked our entrees. Service was just ok. Asked for dressing on the side. Well, that didn't happen. There were very few tables, but we waited on service. We are very forgiving, but I would have liked another beverage, and the server just never showed up. But the biggest disappointment is that we were seated at a very nice table which unfortunately looked directly into a meeting room. We were entertained by a powerpoint presentation on the latest pharmaceuticals for incontinence. I am not talking an enclosed meeting room, but wide open. There was a curtain they could have pulled closed, but they didn't. We will try again, but not in that room. read more

The best food in central Michigan! I have been to camilles a number of times and they never disappoint. The appetizers are meals in themselves, steaks are excellent, and they regularly have great seafood specials that shouldn't be missed. A lot of farm to table selections that support Michigan, and they even have their own garden on site. This is the only place for an upscale meal in MP, and the prices won't break the bank! Just sat for 15 minutes (party of 6) for an open table reservation. Was never greeted. Approached host and without apology, simply said "that's weird, let's see what's going on here". Went into Mountain Top and also received no service. Just traveled from Novi for the weekend and both these restaurants came highly recommended. So very disappointed. The restaurant i wanted to go to next to Camilles was slammed and I was able to get a table in Camille's to sit down and relax. What a stroke of luck! My guests and I enjoyed an evening of appetizers and a very nice wine. Attentive service from the maitre' d and hostess added to the experience. What a pleasant surprise. Camille's is beginning to get up to NYC and Chicago standards. We had appetizers of avocado stuffed with lobster and a quesadilla, both fresh and hot from the grill. One entree was a braised short rib on a fried rice cake with Brussels sprouts. Ribs were excellent, falling off the bone. The other entree was chicken bolognese which also had copious quantities of veal and pork, making it very rich and tasty. Wait staff very efficient and knowledgable. Overall, I would say our experience was positive--not stellar, but enjoyable. The restaurant itself looks as though they used the same designer for the Waterlily (now Isabella's) at the Casino. They also seem to have pilfered freely from the Brass's menu. The interior is very comfortable. Our waitress, alas, seemed as though she was unhappy to be working and having a bad day. We had to ask her about specials and then she left one out--which we know because we heard a more animated waiter listing them to the next table over. I had a caesar salad and asked for black pepper (it was not offered). I then had to ask again and she didn't seem to have remembered that I asked before. I went with my wife and I started with the salad, which is more or less the same one the Waterlily used to serve, complete with fried cheese and white anchovies (which tasted very picklely). My wife had a stuffed shrimp appetizer that was nice and we shared an order of truffle fries that were very good -- not Cafe Zinc fries good, but good. For entrees, I had the 20 oz. bone-in rib eye, which was excellent. It was $32, but worth it. My wife had lobster risotto, which she liked very much but was not served in an especially attractive or interesting way. We shared an interesting "deconstructed" apple pie foam dessert, that was nice. The place is pricey and, as is the case with many other area restaurants, the service doesn't quite match the prices--mainly because they are using kids for waitstaff that I expect have never dined out much themselves in fancy places. We enjoyed the meal and will go back, but they could continue to hone the details. read more

What a great addition to Mt. Pleasant. If you are a local, you of course remember The Embers, which closed a few years back. This is almost a perfect replacement for upscale, quality dining. The atmosphere is quiet and comfortable and the area is nicely decorated. It lets you focus on what we used to focus on during nice dinners - each other (and a great meal). The food is creative and competely top-notch. The staff is so polite and attentive enough to keep you satisfied, but private enough to let you enjoy your dinner. Quality meals like those offered at Camille's are worth every penny. The wines and whiskey selection is enough to keep anyone happy, and if specialty cocktails or martinis are your thing - they have that covered, too. They are open for lunch, with a more affordable lunch menu. The sandwiches are absolutely to-die-for. Every bit of quality as dinner entrees, at a lunch-realistic price. I bought my sister and brother in law a gift certificate to Camille's as a gift. My sister called me this morning to tell me about the dinner and I was so unhappy with their experience I decided to write a review. They dined at the restaurant on Saturday night. They started off the meal with a rueben soup. The soup was luke warm when served and a squirt of Russian dressing that over powered the taste and made the soup even colder. The next course was a Caesar salad that was mediocre at best. My brother in law ordered the scallops with risotto and said his meal was very good. My sister's steak was inedible. The woman at the table next to them also could not eat her steak. When my sister complained to the waiter he called out the manager. The manager came out and said he had tried the steak and agreed the meat was very tough but offered nothing but a free dessert....NOT acceptable! At a minimum she should not have been charged for the steak. When the management knows the product they are serving is not up to their standards the item should be pulled from the menu for the evening....period! Very disappointing experience...will tell our friends not to bother... read more

I took my entire family there to celebrate my sons graduation. I had made reservations four months in advance. When we arrived we were put at a table they squeezed in with folding chairs. Horrible. The menu was extremely overpriced for the small amount of food you got. My salmon was cold. My mother's meal was returned 3 times. Undercooked then came back charbroiled. She finally said she wasn't hungry and never ate. We will never go back. It ruined what was a very nice day. read more

Bland bland bland. I went here for my birthday, the mojitos are so strong, the cheap rum stands out. They just sandwich tomatoes on salads. The pit pie was so bland and the vegetables weren't cooked. Had a delicious lunch here today. Although no real views of the river from the restaurant, the interior is nicely appointed. Both my spouse and I started with cups of the squash soup which were garnished with chopped walnuts and apple sauce! Good enough for an appetizer (or even dessert!). Brought my lady here for a special date and reserved through opentable where I was able to make a "Special Request" this date was significant because I planned to surprise her by formally and officially asking her to be my girlfriend. The day of our reservations the Executive chef Kiel contacted me to let me know that the request was received and that everything would be done to make the night special. He asked for any food allergies prior to. Our service was immaculate and our food was cooked to perfection! the surprise dessert (Which was on the house along with two glasses of champagne) caught us both off guard and brought tears to her eyes. Fellas I highly recommend booking a table here. the ambience was everything and our seating was very intimate and private. Ill never forget my experience here and I cannot wait to come back! I've been going here for lunch for the past 3 years and have enjoyed every meal. Unfortunately, they are experiencing turnover in their kitchen and the food is horribly inconsistent even on their signature offerings. I took my husband there this past Saturday for his birthday and it was a disaster. We ordered crab cakes for appetizer. He ordered the nightly special which was surf and turf. I had French onion soup and the classic 1905 salad. The crab cakes were under cooked. The French onion soup was a small cup full of croutons that had soaked up all of the broth and a small piece of cheese on top that was not melted. The salad was very small for $13 and their famous 1905 dressing was essentially olive oil. Unfortunately I had to send both the soup and salad back. The waiter only took the soup off the bill. My husband's surf and turf was unmemorable at $75 per plate. Long story short, we were incredibly disappointed with the meals and shelled out $170 plus tip to leave the place still hungry. An inconsistent kitchen will be your undoing, we will not be back, and cannot recommend Camille's. This is unfortunate because Mt. Pleasant is sorely lacking in dining options. read more
