I'm a local and have been frequenting Camp 18 for over 10 years now. 1. Great place to visit - bring the kids. There's a brand new logging museum to see, lots of pioneer and logging history. 2. Ambience is great, very rustic with modern and attentive service. 3. Food needs work. Quality not what it used to be circa 2000-2006. I expect to see Gordon Ramsay reaming the staff to whip them back into shape on TV someday as they simply suffer from poor choices - using too many canned/frozen goods. If they'd go back to serving the quality, it'd get 5 stars. They know me and I know them, so I risk a little back-lash, but in the end, I'm honest and hope they change course. If they do, we'll start going there again. read more

They didn't put anything on my burger, I had to request it. You have to ask for tomato, lettuce and pickles. The atmosphere was nice. The bathroom was nice. Service was okay, server was too busy. The cinnamon roll is good and it's huge too! Not a bad experience. :) overall good! read more

Undoubtedly, the waitress had explained it falsely and the manager didn't want to hear it. So, this is my review for everyone else that is interested. Made the drive over from Canby with family for a New Years day breakfast. Arriving early were among the first few tables so it was not busy as of yet. Parking at that point was plentiful. The restaurant is beautiful. It looks like a log cabin from the outside but once inside you can see the timber log beams are massive. The dining area was very comfortable in its eclectic décor. It has lots of seating with many large tables in the middle and small tables around the outside by the windows. Not sure if the loft areas had tables or not. Tables along the windows afford views of the meandering stream and outside deck with bird feeders which would become just as busy as the tables inside. Service was good. Friendly and fast. Food was okay. The two girls both had fried oyster's and enjoyed them; no complaints. I went with a chicken-fried steak and eggs. It was okay because it was a little bit tough/chewy. Other than that all the food was generally good. The orange juice was not fresh squeezed. Prices were in the moderate range. Would return and try some other menu items. read more

After hiking Saddle Mountain, the 4 of us were starving and looking to replenish our lost electrolytes. We wanted to carb out! We arrived at Camp 18, hungry and eager to try out the food at this cute little lodge/diner! The restaurant is located next door to their gift shop and the Camper's Logger Museum. The dining hall is bigger than you would expect based on the outside appearance of the building. The ceilings are high and the antler chandeliers were amazing to look at. The old logging memorabilia is really interesting to look at! We all ordered our dishes, anticipating flavorful diner food that would revive us and send us back on our way to Portland; tummies full and energized. We ordered the corned hash, the country fried steak with a short stack of pancakes, a country favorite sausage plate, and the chili burger with fries. All 4 dishes lacked any sort of salt, seasoning, or flavor. If it were one dish, I could understand... But all 4 dishes?! My friend said his country fried steak was overcooked, the roasted potatoes tasted like they were once frozen.. And as for my chili burger? It tasted like canned chili warmed over a frozen hamburger patty. Nothing was fresh. Oh, and they don't have non-dairy creamer. Waste of money, waste of time. Great food (had the garden sandwich) and coffee, great service, didn't have to wait too long for food or the check even though it was crowded. It was really fun to walk around on the grounds too. There were lots of birds out on the deck and the view was beautiful from our table. The restaurant itself is lodge style and impressive. It's also super easy to see from the 26, can't miss it. If you're feeling hungry when you're a little less than a half hour from Seaside, you won't regret stopping in here. read more

I have stopped here so many times thru the years I can't remember how many? Usually on a return trip the next morning after a night staying over in seaside? I have done this since the late 80's? As I recall the first time I was with a girl-friend who at that time was in my life and that was perhaps about 1986-87 ? It hadn't been open that long when I stopped here that first time I remember some of the old logging equipment was still not very rusty yet? But to the important part which is Breakfast on our return trip the next morning and has always been a great positive experience. I have never tried lunch or dinner mostly because I haven't passed here at the right time for that. But I'm certain it would be great too? Now I see on their website they have pan-fried oysters on their Breakfast menu? Oh wow that's going to be on my ticket next time I'm thru Elsie? 5 stars of course? *****! Terrible all around. The hostess working just had a terrible attitude. Acted like we were a inconvenience to her when we walked in the door. Walked us over, tossed the menu's on the table and walked away without saying a word. Chicken fried steak was bland and nothing special. Camp 18's log stylings and Sasquatch carvings have been eye candy on my coast drives many a time, but as a "gotta-make-time" kind of driver, it's never warranted a pull over. A rainy poopy stir-crazy day in Manzanita made Camp 18 seem an absolute DESTINATION on the way back to Portland. And I was not disappointed. I ate a good grilled cheese and some bad cafeteria-esque fries. Small Child had some fish & chips with her ketchup. Charming Boy Companion ordered a truck-stop salad, which consisted of: iceberg lettuce, croutons, cherry tomatoes, and Kraft Italian dressing - perfect! So yeah, the food is a 2. But the eye candy is a 5! We ate under a stuffed mountain lion and a chandelier made of antlers. After lunch, we wandered out behind the restaurant to what Charming Boy Companion deemed "Digestion Trail": an approximately half-mile trail looping by a crick and through the forest. We saw giant slugs! This is very exciting to city folk. A stop by the gift shop, a wish that they didn't rush us out before we could order some pie, and we were on our way. read more

Very poor service. The waitresses check the guest count to decide on the service they have to offer. I've been to this place 3 times. I felt that the service was bad the first 2 times. But my 3rd visit was pretty bad. The waitresses had to verify the orders before they could get us a table. After making orders for ~$40 we received a bill for $48 including the gratuity. The waitress was pissed that we didn't order more as we were a group of 4. I signed the credit card receipt for $50 and end up seeing $78 on my credit card bill. When I disputed that charge, they produced a fake receipt with that amount and submitted to the bank. I called up camp 18 to talk about this and the person who received the call hung up on me. Please do not expect good service at this restaurant. There can be no reason for me to go there again. read more

Terrible, we had a group of 24 and out of that 16 of us got food poisoning. We also know of two other larger groups that got food poisoning as well. Sounds like they need to be more careful with their food. read more

We often stop at this lovely lodge-like restaurant on our way to the coast. My go-to breakfast meal is their pan-friend oysters with potatoes. The portion size is just right and it's very yummy. We've been there when it's crowded as well as when it's not and the servers are always very nice and attentive. If you're lucky enough to sit by the window, you can enjoy the view of a river/creek as well as watch stellar jays feeding. read more

Well the food was good but cannot say that for the staff. We got there at 6 pm and not many people there, maybe 7 or 8 tables total. We ordered our dinners which again were great but service getting attention that she forgot the fries and by the time we were wanting to pay our bill our fries arrived but without the ranch dressing we asked for. We have always made it a point to stop at camp 18 on our way to or from the beach but I think next time we will just stop for breakfast. The food here is pretty darn good, however, that doesn't make up for the awful service. Strike 1--We apparently were seated right in the shouting lane for servers trying to communicate with the other servers throughout the restaurant. While we're trying to enjoy a meal, we don't really care or want to hear about who's taking what table, who's 'cut', who's turn out is to do x/y/z...seriously, shut up. Respect the paying customers and go up to the person and talk, don't shout over us. So rude. Also, don't get annoyed about taking tables...more tables typically means more in tips. Unless you're annoyed that you're taking MY table and I see you roll your eyes. RUDE. Yeah, I saw that. Strike 2--Do NOT bring out burnt food. Ever. Have the kitchen remake it. We'll gladly wait if you explain it. It is never cool to serve obviously burnt food. It is even less cool to say 'yeah, I saw that, but figured I'd bring it to ya and try anyway'...umm...what???!!! No. Not a good plan. And then leave that burnt food on our bill?? Tacky. By the time my daughter got her remade food, the rest of us were pretty much done. (we all shared fries & bites of our stuff with her...we're not jerks) Strike 3--Do NOT leave your customers waiting 15+ minutes to pay while you sit OUT FRONT and smoke. Not cool. Yeah, I saw that too. This was such a disappointing visit. Hopefully their management reads this and makes some changes. We were there 8/23 around 4PM. We were very disappointed. Clearly a lot of people have had good experiences here. This was my first visit to Camp 18, and I won't be going back. This is what happened. Me and my friend have passed Camp 18 many times, and we never had time to stop, but it looks intriguing and we kept saying we would try it. Today we planned to have lunch there, and we arrived somewhere between noon and 1pm. It's an amazing building, the interior is all beautiful wood and the main roof beam is the biggest tree trunk I have ever seen used in a building. The host station we approached was made of the bottom of what appeared to be a cedar tree and it was huge and really pretty. The sign said the host would seat us. There was no one at the desk, and we were the only people waiting. A hostess appeared behind the desk, followed by some customers who clearly wanted to pay. She started checking them out and did not acknowledge us standing there. No big deal, she seemed busy and perhaps they were a bit understaffed. So we waited. She did not look up at us or greet us, and kept checking customers out. After a while, and this was maybe 12 minutes after we walked in, with absolutely no acknowledgement that we were even there, my friend said, not particularly loudly, "Maybe we should have lunch in Cannon Beach." And I started to say, "That could be a thing," but the hostess looked up and said, "Do you need a table?" I said "Yes," and she looked past us and asked the couple who had come in behind us how many were in their party. Then she looked around the restaurant, ostensibly looking for seating, she picked up a couple of menus, looked some more, and finally said, impatiently, "This way." We followed her to a table that had just been wiped down. She put down the menus, literally threw the silverware bundles on the table, walked over to a water jug and filled a couple of glasses, put them on the table, and walked away. She didn't say anything to us. We looked at each other. I said I really wanted to try this place, and we sat down. There were flies buzzing around the table. For some reason, that did it for me. I had seen the prices on the website, and it's not an expensive place, but it's not cheap either, and I wasn't going to pay that kind of money to be treated that way and then sit there with flies on my table. We got up and walked out, something I don't think I've ever done in a restaurant. I have worked in restaurants, and I totally get being busy, and being understaffed. I don't blame waitstaff for that. But youd better at least be nice. You can acknowledge that were waiting, let us know you'll get to us, say fucking hello. Not treat us like we're inconveniencing you. And the flies. Ick. read more

We stopped on our way back from Seaside and it did not disappoint. There was a 25 min wait for a table but we went into the little gift shop next to it to kill time. Gift shop clerk was a bit crabby but there was quite a bit of people trying to squeeze into the shop. When we were seated in the restaurant the waitress was very friendly. The prices were a little on the high side, even on the kids menu but it all made sense once our food arrived! The Malibu chicken was delicious and the clam chowder was amazing!! We were stuffed from dinner and decided to get two cinnamon rolls to go for the next morning. They were enormous and soooo good!!! We will definitely be back! read more

YUCK!...Horrible so-called food and service...We've driven by many times, and finally stopped in today on our way to Canon Beach - what a mistake! The hostess was surly and weird, our waitress was a hard-bitten nasty creep, and the food - whoa! A $13 salad came with scant avocado, *iceberg* lettuce, and other shoddy ingredients. The $5 soup looked and tasted disgusting - worse than something out of a can, but it had clearly come from one nonetheless. The hamburger was a mass produced thin, tough and flavorless floppy piece of blech...What a cheat! We'll never go back there again, and definitely warn others to stay away. The only things it has going for it are the grounds (a lovely creek behind, and some interesting machinery outside)/log cabin interior (although somewhat kitschy). read more

We often drive by on our way to Portland without stopping. Being preggo and skipping breakfast is not an option however with the Hood to Coast crowd and no reservations the place looked impossible. But with the long drive ahead and a rumbling tummy we stopped anyway. While things looked hectic they appeared organized and pretty calm. What was really impressive was that they were able to help us, in spite of the crowd, with their iconic cinnamon roll. We were able to order to-go and they were quite quick about everything. From a service standpoint we were surprised and very pleased. As for the cinnamon roll, it really does live up to the other positive reviews. My wife and I were returning from Seaside on Hwy 26 and we enjoyed a hearty breakfast at Camp 18 this morning. I arrived hungry, and that situation was promptly resolved with a waffle, scrambled eggs, sausage, bacon and coffee. Everything on my plate promptly disappeared. Yes, I was hungry, but that doesn't affect my objectivity. I enjoyed good service, the decor and log construction, and a brief stroll to examine the logging equipment. My wife ate more conservatively than I, so I helped (as any husband would). I have passed this restaurant (too) many times. I'm glad we stopped, and I think you'll be pleased also. read more

Stop for the logging history. Save your appetite for somewhere else. After passing by Camp 18 many times on previous trips, we happened to hit it at the right time to stop for an early dinner. The dining room was not busy, and the staff was casual and relaxed. Some wait staff sat and visited at tables on the opposite side of the room near the kitchen. Our waitress was attentive to start with - one of our boys was feeling sick, and she offered him apple sauce and toast. The meal was served promptly enough, and I think she may have stopped back one more time. After that, she sat down and got involved in a conversation and did not come back to refresh our drinks or drop off the check. They have this habit of leaving water pitchers on empty tables. That's where I retrieved one when we needed a refill. When it was time to go, I had to ask for the check at the counter. The ditzy girl at the register expected me to know the table number. Table 22? Huh? She then read the amount off the screen. Umm, could you be bothered to print that out? I usually tip well, but not that day. On the way out, we had to jockey to get past customers waiting in the small foyer while the unhurried wait staff were oblivious to them. It looked truly bizarre to me. Yup. The cinnamon roll could feed 4 people. And it was good. Not the best I've ever had, but better than that canned stuff. i got the eggs Benedict and it was the usual, run of the mill, diner-type Benedict. But you know, I can't expect a gourmet type breakfast at a place called Camp 18. The reason why this place is special is, the atmosphere. It's a big log cabin with huge wooden beams, chandeliers hanging from the ceiling, tables made of slabs of wood, a nice cozy fireplace on one wall, wooden carvings of bears and lumberjacks-it's just a neat place to bring friends and family to. read more

Came here with a large group with work. The service was good and the food was excellent. The only downside was because our group was so big some of the food wasn't as hot as it could have been. But because we had such a large group they opened the gift shop up which had closed just shortly before we finished dinner and let us buy some stuff. I personally had the Taco Salad and thought it was great! I really enjoyed it a lot. The food portions were large and everything was tasty imo. My boss even sprung for desert for us and go us the Marion Berry Pie. I am not a big berry fan, but I really thought it was good. read more

A must visit is driving to or from the beach! As well as one of the only places I can think of that still serves liver and onions. (Which I do order almost every time) their breakfasts are wonderful, their lunch and dinner is very good as well. A great place for the whole family. Very friendly staff and a great kitchen gets the food out fast, and with such a large place, it never seems like very long to be seated. Traveling from Cannon Beach back to Portland via HWY 26 my life partner and I decided to stop at Camp 18 for a late breakfast. Big piece of advice.... Have a big appetite! The portions are huge and definitely reflect the price point. It's not the cheapest as my Chicken Fried Steak came in at $15. However the food is good, second best sausage gravy I've had in a restaurant. First being Wayfarer in Cannon Beach. And no gravy better than my grandma's! Service is good and a bonus is the theme of old school timber industry that is a thread throughout the establishment. read more

One word: ewww! I'm not a huge fan of any establishment that replaces all their butter with margarine. The alfredo was flavorless, greasy and terrible. SO not worth the price. Watch out for the traps--$3 cups of coffee . . (Shari's influence no doubt); the MEGA Cinnamon roll is overpriced at $6.25 but not not a trap . . it was great . . reminded me of my Grandma's. The CFS (Chicken FrieD Steak breakfast for nearly $14) was just o.k.. . . eggs barely warm, meat rather tough and tasteless, and sausage gravy not seasoned as well . . didn't reallly need potatoes on top of that that . . (can we say enough carbs--how about a little fresh fruit?), and a medium biscuit .. . not great, but not bad . . . Service and hosting was good . . . . I visit Seaside, OR every summer and this is a MUST stop for me. It has been a favorite of mine since they opened! What makes this a 5 star for me is the property itself. I could walk around the outside or sit inside for hours. Camp 18 is simply beautiful and has such a comfortable feel to it. This year we stopped on our way into town on the morning of the 4th of July. It was actually pretty quiet so we were seated and served immediately. Service is always friendly and the food is good. The main attraction, as always is the atmosphere! Looking forward to our return summer of 2018! read more
