As a first time fur mom, I've had a lot of learning to do particularly daycare and boarding. I initially tried another company, but since my baby is a pit bull mixed he was not allowed to socialize with other dogs, at Camp Bow Wow that's not the case. My baby loves going to camp, the minute I mention "camp" he gets excited. The facilities are relatively well maintained and I have nothing but praises for the staff. I often have to travel for work purposes and it's nice to check out my fur baby on the webcams, even when I am Mexico or other places. Thanks for giving me a peace of mind. read more

My experience boarding my senior dog here was shocking and inexcusable. When I picked up my dog following a six day stay, she reeked of urine. Not just a light scent of urine, but a smell so strong it nearly made me vomit. Her fur was stiff and matted with dried urine that covered her entire side, all 4 paws and head and she had feces on her bottom. When I put her into my car, the urine was transferred to my car interior, clothing and steering wheel. As soon as I got her home, I put her into the bath tub and the water turned yellow from all the urine. I had to lather her up multiple times to try and get the smell out. It has been 4 days since I picked her up and she still cannot stand up or walk. It is clear the staff let her lay in her own urine for days while her muscles atrophied. As soon as I got my dog bathed and settled, I called Camp Bow Wow. The manager told me that my dog had a very difficult time during the stay. She assured me that she was cleaned up frequently and bathed. I asked why a dog that arrived mobile can no longer stand or walk? Why was her entire body soaked in urine? While booking the stay, I explained to the manager that my dog sometimes needs help to stand up due to arthritis in her hips and needs to make several trips to the bathroom daily. She assured me that they could take excellent care of my dog and not to worry. I sent my dog wearing special gripper socks in case the floors were slippery. She was not wearing the socks when I picked her up and I found them inside of her bag. This is a clear case of animal neglect. Nope- kennel cough after the 4th of July boarding. I have 2 larger dogs that have been at several day care facilities in the area and I boarded them Thursday-Sunday for the 4th holiday. I checked many times throughout the weekend on the app- noticed only 2 play areas really being used for several- and I man several dogs. Possibly up to 20-25 crammed in these rooms when they have several rooms available. The floors looked wet like pee that wasn't cleaned up, I only saw one attendant barely there in the views. Why would you shove all these large dogs in 1 small room? Get more staff scheduled or don't book so many reservations! Manage your business! So when I picked my dogs up- the guy at the front described the wrong dog saying he (really a she with a different name) was coughing during morning feeding. Well now over $400 later in antibiotics they will not be going back there! Update- just called to let them know about the kennel cough- the lady said they know about it and are planning on closing and cleaning the building. She also apologized that they didn't call me when they noticed that bc I saw the dogs in the play pack after breakfast so if the guy said he noticed the coughing during breakfast- why would you stick them back in the play pack to possibly infest others???? read more

Let me start by saying I don't like posting negative reviews and this is something out of the ordinary for me. I took my dogs to CBW in Troy initially for a half day after their interview to get them acclimated to the environment since they've never been boarded or gone to a day-care before. The staff seemed to care and were very helpful and aware that this was a first for both my dogs. They had fun, came back happy and I was prepared to board them for 5 days while I traveled over the holiday. I was able to watch them on the cameras, which was great, but I couldn't find them for a couple days. They were excited when I picked them up and they were great the first couple days after. Then the coughing started. They've been hacking and having trouble breathing anytime they get excited and one of them coughed so hard he puked. I called Camp Bow Wow after the coughing had gone on for a couple days without getting better to see if they had any other complaints....they had a confirmed case of kennel cough and didn't notify me. They found out on Saturday morning (I called first thing Monday morning) and they didn't even call to let me know that they had a confirmed case. I get it, this is a busy season. But they could have designated someone to call anyone who boarded during the time of the contraction to let them know so they could get their dogs into the vet if need be. Now I have to wait 2 more days to get my dogs in for medical attention because the vet booked up so fast with other cases from other dogs getting kennel cough from the same location. I'm going to be wary bringing my dogs to this location again, which is unfortunate because I was initially so excited since the pups loved it so much. Disappointed. read more

Also had me pay a vet bill that wasn't even my dogs fault as my dog was defending himself. Cameras barely work and if they do are delayed. I don't have children, instead I have dogs. I always get really nervous about leaving my pets in the care of others. We have been taking our two dogs to CBW Troy for a year now, starting when they were puppies (three/four months old). I am very pleased with the staff's ability to care for my pets. They show a genuine care and interest in the well being of my dogs. Chunk and Wesley have experienced all-day daycare as well as extended stays. I really like the webcams where I can see them romping around while I'm on the computer at work. We will continue bringing our dogs there and I would recommend this location to anyone. read more

Mine was the only dog in the room with this employee I called repeatedly and left message of which no one returned my call. I finally got the manager and she told me I misinterpreted what I saw and that her employee would never do this. She was extremely rude to me. I called a friend and asked her to pick my dog up. I took my dog here for a visit before he would actually come for a full day of care. I was very disappointed in the employees, and the way they are being trained (or not trained) to be around the animals. I should say that I am a big dog lover, and I knew that finding a good Day care center would be a challenge. We were in on a weekday, after 5pm, which is when they are busiest. The manager repeatedly apologized for them being so busy. But it was helpful to see how they handle the busiest time of the day, which is terribly. A dog actually got out of the gated reception area while I was there, and the manager had to shout at someone walking in to not open the door to the access hallway. My dog did pretty well here, but I would never consider bringing him. The company never followed up with me after our initial visit (over a month ago) and the employees outside of the General Manager seem undertrained and unenthusiastic. I would highly recommend using a site like Rover.com instead to find a caregiver who does actually care, and can provide more for your pet for about the same price. read more

I have to travel overseas 3-4 times a year and it's always a worry how your pet is being taken care of when you're away. I've tried several kennels over the years-Fernlee, Rexpoint, Pet Suite Retreat and now Camp Bow Wow. CBW does a good job with my dog. I usually travel for a week to 10 days and when I pick him up he's happy to see me but also seems to be enjoying his stay there. I really think the socialization with other dogs in a controlled environment like that is good for him. They also have cams that are active during the day, so I can check up on him playing with his 'buddies' while I'm away. Finally, if I leave a call with the CBW staff to give me an update on how he's doing, they always call back and give me a detailed report. CBW is a wee bit more expensive than some of the others, but you can purchase coupons good for over night stays ahead of time and save $ 5/night-which brings them closer to some of the other upper end Kennels. My dog likes them and I've used them half a dozen times for overseas or domestic trips. I recommend CBW if you're looking for a new Kennel. read more

Overall, CBW has been an excellent caregiver for Kevin, our 2 yr old golden retriever. He's spent many full days/nights there, with, for all intents and purposes, no problems. Like some other reviewers, we would appreciate broader hours of operation, especially on weekends. And, having someone in the building overnight, would bring additional peace of mind. When we drop Kevin off for a CBW visit, he is always very excited/happy, and the staff seems to genuinely be glad to see him. When we pick him up, he is absolutely exhausted/relaxed, which is great, and a clear indication that he had a good time with the staff and the other dogs. We also like the convenience of on site grooming. I do suggest, that the owners provide (candid/self critical if necessary) responses to the lower rated reviews. I took my dogs to Camp Bow Wow - Troy for about two months and they loved it. However, one of my dogs is in the small group and the other is in the large group. My larger dog, who is still not very big at about 45 lbs, began to jump the barriers - something she does not ever do at home. I figured it had to do with the fact that she wanted to hang out with her sister. So I had to withdraw my dogs from camp - major bummer, especially because the staff was nice and location perfect. I understand why they cannot allow dogs to jump barriers. What I don't understand is why three separate employees, including the trainer, told me that their barriers are too low and that I was not the first person who had to remove their dog due to barrier jumping. My question is this - if this is such a common problem, why not raise the barriers? They specifically told me that other Camp Bow Wow locations have higher barriers with no issue even for large dogs. I guess I'm just not sure why they would rather lose my business than invest in raising barriers, not just for my dog but for the safety of all dogs involved. I found another day care with a better setup and both of my dogs seem to enjoy it much more, so I guess it was a blessing in disguise. read more

DO NOT TAKE SENIOR DOGS HERE!!! DO NOT!! I had used them once for my small dog years ago. So I wanted to do a boarding one night with both dogs, in preparation for a longer trip later in the month. I called ahead and explained the situation. I have a senior dog who is 14, who has arthritis, who has never been boarded. No problem, they said. He'll be fine. (I also consulted my vet who gave the go ahead.) When we went in I noticed the floor was very smooth laminate. My dog collapsed. Too slippery. I asked if the room he would be in was that smooth or had more traction. Response was 'oh.. no. It's fine. Its different' all right then. So they take my dogs back. I looked on the cameras later and the 'senior lounge' he was in (and office size room with one other dog) had the exact same flooring. I went to complete my plans for the night after calling them. They're doing great! So this morning around 11:30, I call to check on them. I didnt see my senior dog on camera. I called them. They said he was having a hard time, panting, falling, getting confused. I cancelled my plans and booked over there asap. All the while, wondering why I wasn't called. Just a phone call. So I get there and I asked them to bring my big guy out first. I said if hes having a hard time, if I go back there, he'll do as little better- he'll know hes going home. She scoffed at me and said 'I highly doubt it's a matter of preference'. I didnt say much but I was livid. Really, stranger? My dog wont give preference to his owner of 14 years?!? She goes to get him, but comes back with out him. He needs to be cleaned. What??? Apparently my dog had sat in his own poop and soiled himself. WHAT.THE.HELL. My dog is incredibly clean. Long bushy hair and never a spot on him. When he poops, he walks just to get away from it. This is highly unusual. So they brought him out, after the guy that had him stopped for a bit to talk to someone. I could se him through the glass. The floor was still that damn slippery floor. So hes standing there with my senior dog who can barely walk, just shootin the breeze with someone. He opens the door and my dog falls again. The guy says he needs to grab towels because he kept falling in the tub. I let him know not to grab anything and I'm putting him in the car. My goal was to get my dog OUT OF THERE. So now I'm home, 8 hours later. I took a dog to them who could walk and get up and down. Now I have a dog who isnt capable of any of that. I am beyond angry at myself for even taking him. But I am absolutely fucking livid that I was not contacted and made aware. If my dog was having issues, I should have been contacted immediately!!! We were fans of this place, until we boarded our dog on June 23 and he contracted kennel cough. Sadly he didn't make it and passed after suffering for 3 weeks. I called the store to tell them and was promised a call, which did not happen within 48 hours of being notified! They had a post on their Facebook page about kennel cough and 15 other owners posted that their pups had gotten kennel cough from staying here. They deleted the post! With no acknowledgement of to the owners! I know it's going around but have a little compassion! This virus is an issue! Not one to be swept under the rug!! read more

Our dogs love it here. Friendly staff that really like dogs.We had not been here for awhile because a place opened up closer to our house, however the staff remembered our big dog. Was first time for the little dog. Took them for boarding. Have that feeling that the dogs will be well cared for while there. Dogs get excited when they see the place before they have gotten out of the car. They know they are in for a good time. One of the dogs is a yellow lab. Ever try to pick out your yellow lab from the others on the web cam? You can call them and they will tell you which area your dog is in and then maybe you can figure it out. Like the fact that the staff are adults and not teenagers looking after my dogs. Place seems very clean. Does not have any bad odors like one other place we went to once. read more

Camp Bow Wow is just so darn cute! It's a franchise & every location I've been to takes the cabin/camp theme & runs with it. Most importantly, the staff I've worked with have always been friendly & inquisitive on my dog's needs (any medicines, special treats, feeding times) to ensure his stay is a good one. The live feed is what puts this doggy day care above the rest. If you're traveling or just giving your dog a day to play it's really comforting to know you can check online or on the app at any time to see your pup! The live feed is only available in the play areas, there are not cameras in their kennel areas. There is also a feature where you can take a still shot of your dog playing. Guilty - I've used it before! You pay a little more at Camp Bow Wow for day camp or over night stay but for my furry family member - I'm willing to pay to ensure he's being taken care of at a reputable business. read more

I was invited back to give them another try and things went much better this time. I got a full report on her and it seemed like there was more attention to detail. My dog has kenneled here 3 times. Each time they have forgotten to feed him, came home with a soaking wet bed and a dirty dog dish that wasn't even his. I work from home, which is great for my little 13 lb. Shih-Poo, but I also work a lot of hours with limited time for play. On days I'm unable to play, she looks so sad and depressed. To remedy this, I registered her with Camp Bow Wow earlier this year. The expectation was that she would run, play and have fun interacting with the other dogs and staff. I even paid for 4 half-day packages to get her started. I do like that Camp Bow Wow separates small dogs from the big dogs. I also like that they have a webcam which allows me to watch her interact. What I didn't like? My lil furbaby was in a pit with about 10 other dogs, all of which were bored. They just stood around, looked at one another, or laid down, Never once did they interact. Their only interaction was when someone walked by. They would bark and try to climb wall as if to say "Please! Get me out of here!!". This, unfortunately, was my first and last visit. Although the staff member did a wonderful job cleaning up behind the dogs, she just stood around the entire time never once petting, playing or interacting with them. It appeared as if she didn't quite like her job, or the dogs. To me, when there's no interaction among the dogs, the staff should initiate some sort of play by running in a circle for the dogs to chase her, pet or talk to the dogs, maybe even bounced a big ball just to initiate some sort of interaction. Don't misunderstand. I do like Camp Bow Wow because the front desk staff are friendly; when touring the place it was very clean; unlike Caninie-to-5 they have nice sized play areas for small dogs; their kennel area is neatly organized and clean; and they have nice, homey suites. But I need my dog to play and interact! For this reason, I would have given Camp Bow Wow a 5-Star rating. But because the small dogs don't appear happy there I, unfortunately, have to downgrade this to a 4-Star because I can't do a 3.5 rating. Our little dogs are like our children. When we pay for a baby sitter, we don't expect them to be thrown into a room with nothing to do!! read more

Easy drop off, clean facility! Clean is very important to me. I loved being able to see my Clyde on the video monitors. It was comforting to see an employee always keeping an eye on the dogs and monitoring the play areas. All of the staff was extremely friendly too. The young lady working the desk when I picked him up gave me a report that described him perfectly so I know she wasn't just faking conversation. It felt personal and was very much appreciated. Finally the all inclusive price is great. It seems like all the other doggy day/evening care facilities in the area have an up charge for everything including play time or outdoor time. read more

I would give three and a half stars if I could, but three seems too low so I'll stick with four. I have been bringing my puppy here for a few months now and I'm overall pretty pleased, even though they have a few kinks they really need to work out. My dog is happy here, which is the most important thing. He runs and plays all day, and by the time I pick him up he's blissfully exhausted, which makes the trip and cost worth it. I work from home so it's not necessary for him to go there, I just do it to burn some of his energy and because he loves other dogs. I like that they have half days (5 hours or less), they're the only place in the area that offers that and they're cheaper than full. If you do decide you like it, getting a package will save you A LOT of money. (Hundreds of dollars as opposed to paying as you go). The biggest issue I have is with inconsistency of the staff, though. Some people clearly care about the dogs a lot, have remembered their names, pet them, talk "doggy" to them. And others just clearly don't care, and it's just a job to them. I understand that in a way, I've had "job jobs" too, but when a child or animal is involved, I think compassion is very necessary. Not only do some of the employees seem apathetic, but they don't always do the basic parts to their job, and I have been extremely frustrated with this on multiple occasions. A few times I have scheduled (and paid for!) a bath and/or nail trim for my puppy, and when I pick him up neither have been done. The first time the explanation was simply, "We just didn't do it." When I asked why, I was again told, "We just didn't." Oh, ok then. I was comped for a free bath once, which was nice yet unhelpful considering I was having people over that night and didn't want a stinky puppy. Some days he comes home wet and/or smelly from camp too, I understand they can't control this completely but I've seen dogs pee on camera and other dogs stepping through the pee for at least 30 min before its cleaning up. This is why I bring wipes and clean my puppy in the parking lot before he goes in the car. Also, there have been days when I send him with food, and yet he comes home and DEVOURS anything in sight (he's not a big eater normally) because he's clearly starving, and I know for sure they didn't feed him the food I sent. When I took him in the first time, he came home with a report card but never once since then. I think that sort of consistency and personalization would be nice. We're paying a lot of money for a service, and I think anyone who is taking their dog to daycare clearly cares about their dog a lot. We can't all watch the cameras all day and it would be nice to know how they're doing. Oh also- I have never boarded and don't plan to, they leave the dogs alone in cages from 7pm-6am with no one even on site the whole night. I don't know how most places work with boarding but that seemed very extreme to me. I know it sounds pretty negative but overall I'm satisfied with this place, Puppy is happy so I am too. I hope they'll get these little issues worked out and a solid staff and then it would definitely be 5 stars. read more

At first this place appears to be wonderful. All the bells and whistles, seemingly sweet staff, dog loving, accommodating, and really too good to be true. I left (after my "initial" time) feeling like I WISH I had found the place years ago... GREAT staff, clean, open areas... dogs get time together... LOVED it! I went to pick my dog after a long weekend and they were closed. It is a holiday and they are only opened 4 hours all day (Ann Arbor Is opened all day). I still have no idea what hours they were, but I thought it was 1-5 so I was there at 430. The "actual hours" were 5-8pm... I watched the cam the 30 mins I waited and NO DOGS still on any camera.... hmmmm I was told to "call when you are on your way so we can bath your dog". Well, I called yesterday, today, (4 times) and no answer AT ALL. I left a message yesterday and two today no answer. They have great dog cams that (if the dogs are out of their kennels) you can SEE your dog playing (my daughter loved that) BUT my dog (nor ANY dog) was "out" for cameras to see the last two days... they said on initial interview "If you don't see your pet, call us and we will go in the play room and point for you"... yeah, that is IF they answer the phone. They need ALL kinds of info for us, emergency numbers, pick ups vet info etc. WE get only one number and no one answers... I am military, and the person who did our "interview " said that I had a discount. When I went to get my dog the 'discount" went down considerably. In fact the lady (who I had never seen) said, "I don't know what they did... (while reading my file) she said "lemme go ahead and just re-do your whole intake since it's all pretty messed up, I have no idea what they were doing"... when I asked about my dog and the cameras she told me I probably hit the wrong camera (when I said I tried them ALL) she said there was probably a "glitch". Then she apologized for no call back and no one answering, had me sign my bill, while another attendant brought my dogs "things" and LITERALLY threw them on the counter, no eye contact no smile just a "thank God it's over, I hate my job" toss... I looked in my dog bag and his toys were all ruined (I was never told that the dogs share toys either) so don't take the "good ones" like I said, no one told me that at all. I tossed his frisbee in the trash there... and left. No word on how my dog did, no ANYTHING... just a huge bill and comments on how "messed up" the info I got was.... My dog got home and immediately had diarrhea on the floor (he NEVER does this) He has been to several boarding places and never has he ever been so stressed out. First and last time there. My dogs are 3 and 4 and have been going to the Brighton camp bow wow since puppies. It has not only helped socialize them but they burned off energy and made puppy friends along the way. Since moving, I have tried the Troy camp, twice and then boarded for 5 days. I will never come back. I am so disappointed with this camp and the people who work here. I realize they are all individually owned and have different prices but the one worker at Troy said, "it's Troy, that's why it's a few dollars more. It's nicer than Brighton" how about the professional way of saying that is, "our camp is bigger and therefore we employ more workers and have different hours." The part that makes me really upset is that they threw away the big bag of dry food and told me my dogs ate it all. (One is 8 lbs and puppy mill, I can barely get him to eat at home) I asked them to save the food and I also asked them to give two wet foods a day to him and they forgot and the cans were in his take home bag. I thought the front desk was rude and because the camp is so big, they don't care to go the extra step. If I wasn't spoiled by the Brighton Camp, maybe I wouldn't be as sensitive but they were just all around so much better.
