Having to leave your four legged best friend to be boarded for the first time is never easy especially if your furry friend has severe separation anxiety (he wasn't invited on the vacation) so I looked into several places for Teddy to stay at and found there was only one place I could trust my favorite boy with and that was Camp Canine. Teddy (a 3.5 year old Goldendoodle) had been there before for daycare and grooming and always seemed happy compared to other places. So I dropped him off and he didn't even turn around and cry because he knew he was going to have fun. The only one with tears was me. They went above and beyond to reassure me that he was in good hands. I received daily emails on how he was doing and even providing pictures. Knowing he wasn't anxious allowed me to extend my trip which was such a gift. Their entire staff is dedicated, sweet and caring. I also have to mention that the facility is so big that Teddy had room to do his daily zoomies. It is also extremely clean. That was really important to me because the other places I looked into were not clean and I was not comfortable leaving him in a place like that. When I picked him up he came running down the hall with a huge smile and when we got home he slept for 26 hours. He definitely had the time of his life and I am sure can't wait to go back. The owner takes a lot of pride in striving for five star service with both grooming and day care. Friendly staff, and excellent accommodations. Had a groom I needed for my mini schnauzer, and although they had to cancel last minute due to a conflict within their staff, the owner went over and beyond to make it up to me. This was my first time boarding my cat for longer than a couple nights. The team was so accommodating to all my questions and made me feel extremely comfortable with my cat's 9 night stay (including my calling for updates throughout the week). Upon picking him up, they were warm and friendly and he seems happy! This experience was so much better than his 2 night stay at another company where he was completely anxious for an entire week after pick up. Thank you Camp Feline! I have been taking my dog to Camp Canine for over three years. I have used all the services - boarding, daycare and grooming. I have seen mass improvements on efficiency and member communication since Mike has taken ownership (almost 2 years ago). Why do I love camp canine? The staff is super friendly and very accommodating. They are incredibly responsive as well. Here's two examples: 1. Cooper (my dog) had been having some major stomach problems and I kept him out of camp for over two weeks. He had been put on meds and received an IV. Upon his return to Camp, I asked the staff if he was acting himself or any issues - the replied immediately and gave me updates a few times that week. 2. Cooper was feeling sick once at daycare - he threw up. They called me to tell me his condition and that they put him in the front office, holding him and giving him some pumpkin and rice mix to help ease his stomach. WHO DOES THAT?! I could find another daycare closer to my home and cheaper. But it's worth the time and money to have amazing care for my fur child. Also...I have yet to find another daycare that has such amazing hours. read more

I wanted to get to know the people behind Camp Canine for a solid month, before writing my review. I can now give an enthusiastic 5* review for the entire Camp Canine team! I adopted my pup Luna (a mini-Bernedoodle) in early April. In mid-June, when she was ~4 months old, I needed to have her watched while I was away on travel. I called up CC and they scheduled a 1/2 day "interview" to understand her temperament and see how she fit in with other playmates. They were the only place I contacted that offered this consultation for free and so willingly -- which I think is a great idea! They have several different pricing options, and while NYC/UWS is expensive, I think their pricing is competitive and fair for the quality of treatment. For puppies under 6 months, they offer a $600 all-you-can-play daycare option for one month! We opted to pay for this for Luna for July as were were in the middle of a stressful move. There's a FB group you can join where they regularly post photos, setting up drop-offs is easy & breezy, all pups receive a mid-day walk through Central Park, and Luna always comes home tired (but in the best way as she's a puppy :-) ). Drop off and pickup times are very convenient, especially for folks who work long hours (7am - 8:30pm). Can't recommend them enough and look forward to continuing to bring Luna by. Boarded my dog Roxie twice, and purchased a doggie daycare package. My dog always came back with the same wonderful personality, and no issues. Speaking with the owner, and watching how the staff treated her, I was confident in leaving her there. Another thing that I loved was how Camp Canine posts pictures of the dogs from that day. As much as my dog was tired after a day at camp. I cannot fully recommend this place as his first day, all four paws wreaked of urine. I understand accidents happen, but for his four paws to be soaked and smelling of urine? Makes me question how sanitary their facility is. We get home and he was drinking water as if he hasn't had any all day or any available for him while at camp. I chalked up that first experience as my dog having so much fun he did not think to drink any water. The urine thing- accidents happen, but unacceptable. What makes me not recommend this place nor will we go back is that we had explicit instructions about his eating times and they did not adhere to those instructions. Why respond to this request with reassurances and negate it when the time comes. read more

We LOVE Camp Canine -- and my dog loves it. The management and "counselors" are kind and upbeat and clearly love their charges and know their peculiarities. A particular bonus is the parties and art & crafts (I got a Mother's Day card from my dog, complete with paw print). And you get to see a splendid picture of your dog on FB every time he's there. I used to take him to a several-starred outfit a little farther uptown, but before long, my dog seemed afraid of the owner and didn't want to go. Camp Canine is amazing. Our Fiona loved daycare before we moved to the UWS and then after a year at Spot she became fearful and hated it. After we switched to Camp Canine, Fiona grew to absolutely love daycare again. And she's back to being the happy, well socialized, sweet dog we had before we moved. I tell her in the morning, "let's go see everyone at daycare!" and she quickens her walk to get there ASAP. The staff is absolutely wonderful--they clearly love dogs and go above and beyond to make the dogs and owners happy. We also recently switched to them for grooming and Fiona looks fantastic. My kitty Camilla loved her first stay at Camp Feline. The staff was very responsive to my emails checking in on her (this was her first time away from home) and sent me lots of cute photos of her. She came home very happy and I think will have a good time there during her next stay. As for me, I am happy to know she is well cared for while I am away and I also like that their hours make it easy for me to pick her up/drop her off before and after work. Camp Canine LOST our dog - every pet owner's worst nightmare: I urge you to NOT use this daycare. You can avoid the trauma we went through, the legal hassles, and out-of-court settlement which was paltry. My boyfriend and I were travelling, so we arranged for our mini dachshund, Hazelnut, to stay at Camp Canine during work hours. Our friends would pick her up at night and take her home. One night they went to pick her up at 7pm, and Camp Canine said Hazelnut was not there, instead she RAN AWAY AND IS LOST IN CENTRAL PARK. They said a "customer left the door open and let her out" and saw our dog scamper out the daycare, up the stairs, onto the street, and into Central Park nowhere to be seen, with the "camp counselors" trying to chase her but to no avail. Furious, our friends bolted into Central Park calling Hazelnut over and over. No Hazelnut. Search continued, with trips to the police station, local pounds, "amber alerts" all over craigslist, 300 distributed flyers with the dog's picture, etc. No Hazelnut. It rained that night with lots of thunder. No Hazelnut. The next day, a man found her at 110th and riverside drive, OVER 30 BLOCKS AWAY from daycare. Our dog was scratched up, one leg limping, trembling, hungry, and traumatized from spending the night all alone in the streets. It's a miracle that she didn't get run over by a car being that she's 11 pounds and low to the ground. So much for the "state of the art security system" advertised on their website. Honestly, there isn't one. The staff at Camp Canine refused to give us the video feed of the floor on that fateful day. They did post some "lost dog" flyers at the local animal center to help. That shows "effort." They are not web-savvy, did not think of craigslist, and obviously were scared of the legal ramifications since our dog was lost under their watch. I won't go into details about the negotiations but they admitted fault and decided to settle out of court with us. Nevertheless we are happy Hazelnut is safe and home now. Her injuries are not serious and she's doing very well. Regretfully, in our haste we didn't check Yelp about Camp Canine. The one-star reviews and death of one dog (mysteriously "removed" from this site) say it all. The "camp counselors" look like they hate their jobs, don't smile, and are not approachable. I"m all for supporting small businesses but this one is run with little safety (two doors does not make a "state of the art security system"), lax effort and responsibility, and sorry, one "freak accident" does not make it safe to go there again. Ever. This story has a happy ending, but it could happen to you too. Were it not for the heroic actions of our friends and witnesses, our dog could have been lost forever. read more

8 times out of 10, we board our dog at a kennel in Westchester with transportation services from Manhattan, and it's fantastic. The 9th time, we keep him at the vet. The tenth time, we thought we'd try out Camp Canine - since we'd been thinking about sending him to doggie day care (hello, I'm a yuppie) once a week at their facility, we figured that boarding him for a night would be a great way to test them out. I called a week in advance to make the reservation - the phone call went smoothly, the guy who I talked to was exceedingly nice. Then came the day of the reservation. My boyfriend walked the dog down to drop him off. He was told that there was no reservation under our name, and the guy who helped him was, to quote the boyfriend, "kind of a jerk." Apparently they've got Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde working there. Since the facility looked good, we shrugged it off and moved on. He verified the closing time on Sunday (8:30PM), and off we went to the Hudson Valley. Sunday rolled around, and we ran late getting back into town. At 8:20, we had the "oh, no" moment and realized that we were waaaaaay later than originally thought (sleep deprivation due to stressful work weeks will take its toll). Colby sprinted the 8 blocks to the kennel. I called them at 8:29 to say that he was literally half a block away, and we were sorry, and to please hang on for 30 seconds. No one answered. I left a message. When Colby arrived 30 seconds later, the place was locked up and totally deserted, save for the cleaning guy who couldn't help him. Camp Canine returned my call at 8:30 this morning, and I had the opportunity to talk to someone who must've been the guy working on Saturday judging by his winning demeanor. I explained that yes, we ran late, and yes, that was our error, and we apologized profusely for that, then thought I'd verify their closing time on Sunday evenings. "We were under the impression that you closed at 8:30 on Sundays." "We do." "But when someone arrived at 8:30 on the dot, the place was locked up and deserted." "Right, we close at 8:30." (momentary silence while I try to figure this out.) "But... how could the place be totally deserted AT CLOSING TIME?" "Well, we have a designated night clerk that takes are of the dogs, but doesn't release them." Let's rewind to the previous evening. After I called at 8:29, I called again immediately. Someone answered, and the conversation went as follows. "Hello?" "Hi, I have a dog that was boarding there, and we're running late - someone should be there to pick him up momentarily. Can you please wait just a few more seconds? I'm so sorry." "No one is here - I'm just part of the cleaning crew. Everyone is gone." "Wait, no one that works for the kennel itself is there?" "No, just me - I can't release the dog." The cleaning guy should be asking for a raise, since he apparently doubles as the night clerk without knowing it. That'll give you confidence in the caretakers, right? Incidentally, as I walked into the building this morning to get my dog, I overheard the owner (or whomever this person is) on the phone, saying "So you left at 8:00?" Perhaps it was a coincidence, but it all seems too convenient. $120 later, we won't ever be back, and we'll be telling our vet (who is one of Camp Canine's biggest referral sources) about this incident. read more

I took my dog to Camp Canine for a 3 hour test. I was hesitant to take her there as they don't allow anyone into the space, even before covid. That is suspect. Also they don't have cameras anywhere so you can see the dogs, every place has that. And... they don't limit how many dogs they have. I believe they said there were 40 dogs the day mine went there. And my dog who loves to play with other dogs was very quiet according to her report, i think she was overwhelmed. And, last but not least, she got a very bad case of kennel cough that turned into pneumonia and had to spend the night at the vet. read more

We boarded our 8 month old labrador at Camp Canine for 5 days. The reviews were good and we wanted 24 hour supervision. Since we picked her up, our dog hasn't been the same and we are still wondering what exactly happened there. She lost weight and she has two nasty bite marks in her face. Before leaving her at Camp Canine we specifically told the owner that our puppy is very playful and that other dogs might not always appreciate that. He assured us that there was 24 hour supervision and that the person responsible for watching the dogs would always intervene if anything goes wrong. We were wondering why nobody intervened when she got bitten in her face? Why weren't they more careful? The bite marks turned into scars and I'm hoping they will become less visible over time. We are really not happy with this. As you can imagine. We asked for an explanation, but they're either rude, don't answer of give lame excuses. I do not recommend this place to anyone. read more

I have been taking my dog to Camp Canine for daycare ever since I discovered my adopted doberman had separation anxiety (2-4 days a week for the past year). I am always nervous to leave my dog with anyone, but Camp Canine has been excellent. Their hours are great - 7:00 AM-8:30 PM is wonderful because I work a variable schedule & often need to leave her early in the AM or come late in evening to pick her up. The staff is super nice & there is always at least one human supervising the dogs when I drop in. I often run into them on the sidewalk when they are out walking the dogs, so I know they are getting outside during the day. The prices are very reasonable for daycare (we buy the 30-visit packages to save a little money), and they have a groomer on site who is super nice. She has cut my dog's nails and charges $15, which is good for Manhattan and very convenient. You can bring your own food or they will feed - this is good because I have forgotten to bring dinner a few times. Finally, they are clean. It doesn't smell bad inside, and my dog always comes home smelling a little like disinfectant. If you need a place for your dog to hang out while you are at work, I definitely recommend CC. P.S. I work in animal welfare, and appreciate the fact that CC fosters homeless rescue dogs. It makes it feel a little better giving them my business when they give a little back to dogs in need. read more

I love this place! We were recommended to Camp Canine in the fall when we rescued our Westie. I can tell you I was given a checklist of what to look for, and our Maestro loved going. He was happy to see me, but literally RAN in when he saw where we were headed. We left him there on 2 separate occasions prior to going away for the weekend. He was happy and well looked after, and came home a very tired guy. The staff are true dog lovers, and wish it were closer so that Maestro could spend all his days there. read more

Without being hyperbolic, I do not know how I would survive in New York without our Camp Canine family. I work very long hours and my dog (with all his rescue quirks) needed a place to go. At my old job, he came to the office with me and has admittedly developed separation anxiety. That doesn't matter at CC, he LOVES it there -- the other dogs and the humans. The people who work there are saints. They are so happy to see him everyday. They take wonderful care of him. Last Fall my pup tweaked his back two days before I was supposed to leave the country. He huddled in the corner because he was terrified of pain if he moved. No fear! Camp Canine took AMAZING care of him while I was gone. They monitored him closely in the room and when they felt he was lagging, they removed him for naps in his bunk. They carefully checked him continuously -- I gave them pain pills and without any hesitation allowed them to make the call of when he needed them. When I picked him up five days later, he was so happy and was in no more pain. For weeks after, the whole staff would so thoughtfully check-in with me to see how his back was doing. I love that it's a one-stop shop. They've got grooming and boarding all in one. If he needs a bath, they can just fit him in while I'm there. If my work day goes sideways (sadly sometimes a fact) they can keep him overnight. I could go on and on. But bottom line: I could not speak more highly of any business. (So much so that I go about 20 minutes out of my way on our commute to bring him here). read more
